Virtue: What to Expect
Made the jump last night, reactivating my US account and disabling the EU one.
Losing all my boosters and Vet rewards sucks. But last night in Kings felt like proper City of Heroes again rather than the City of Ghosts my last 4 characters (3 of them were red-side granted) had on Union.
Had a great time keeping 5 DP Blasters alive with the Plant/Empathy who had been inactive for 600 days. Pity Patrol XP stops after 10 bubbles of XP though. I'd be sorted all the way to 50 otherwise.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I never got Detra hugs either....
Very good redside activity.
I have been playing on virtue for 2 months...
1~ I have found easily 2~ Not so much only a few random friendly people. 3~ I have NEVER been able to get a team going. 4~ 100% true. 5~ Uhm never happend. *Places keyboard on head* "I are doing itz wrong!?!" (I made the mistake of only staying in to D so I know that is part of my problem.) |
2 - Shoot me a global tell tonight @Flaming Current (I'll be on my static team tonight, but we can work something out)
3 - Join global channels and teaming should be easy (VU2010, Virtue TFs 2010 and Virtue LFG Alpha)
4 - Exactly
5 - Detra can be found hanging out in Pocket D during The Cape radio shows.

Im from EU servers myself, union to be exact.
I came here simply because the european side is dying off now and anything that happens with the game happens later for us europeans so i figured i might as well join the servers with a higher population and earlier updates.
However after been here a while, im shocked at how little people actually seem to team here, and the amount of abuse people constantly deal out to each other. The server may have a higher population, but its nowhere near as friendly as the european ones, and you will still have more chance of getting a team there than you will here.
Also I noticed on European servers we tend to have just a few major SGs that have a majority of players in them, here everyone seems to be in a different SG and have loads of inactive members.
Freedom seems to be slightly better teaming wise, although a lot of it is in AE although you still get abusive players more often than EU flaming each other in broadcast chat.
Waiting for the European double exp weekend free activation again to see whether its worth moving back, this wasnt what i expected at all. You dont play MMORPG's to solo.

* I started (and am based on Guardian) but I also regularly play on Virtue and Triumph. (I dabbled on Freedom a little but thought three servers was enough.) Each server has it's own flavour and it may take time to find the one you like.
Generally players are courteous and helpful. There are exceptions and I will admit that I use user notes and *quit team*. To be fair most slanging matches in broadcast happen because of the anonymity of the internet and how easy it is to misinterpret something typed quickly mid-battle. Or just an oddity. I recall someone making a mother-in-law joke in one channel which turned into a fairly heated religeous debate. I've still no idea how.
I think Atlas broadcast is pretty mindless - especially since AE - no matter which server you're on. The AE teams seem to be a lot of purple induced death so for me 'real' teams are outside AE.
The teams and TFs/SFs which I join are rarely put together in broadcast or local. They are from the in-game channels. Some of which are searchable (EG Guardian) and some of which are not searchable and are invite only. If you're talking and teaming in the searchable channels, you'll soon find out about the other ones.
As for SGs; I and most of the people I team with have their own solo SG/VGs. The advantage is you get to hog all of the storage without having to worry about permissions. It is easy to do this if you're not relying on the SG for teams but are using the channels. I offer coalitions to new players who are building up their own SG/VG - they can use my porters while they focus on prestige and racks. I'm sure I'm not the only one to do that.
It is a shame you've had such a bad experience but it isn't always like that. And in an MMO you're dealing with people who may be short on sleep, having a bad day or just not 'feeling that character' at that moment. It doesn't mean they're bad - but caught at a bad moment. Catch me on a good day, you'll think I'm the best empath going, next day you'll one star me and label me the worst empath ever. Truth is somewhere between.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Oh! Here's my two cents.
- The best roleplay is based in VG/SGs and Coalitions. If you can find an RPSG that fits your character, you'll have way more fun than just random D RP.
- ERPers aren't going to randomly request ERP with you. Don't worry. Yes, you do run into... odd characters. (Virtue introduced me to the term Futanari... seriously. D
- The best AE arcs are the ones you run with an RP Team. Seriously, it's a blast.
- The Cape Radio is awesome.
- People tend to be pretty nice on Virtue, from what I've seen. You do see the rare Godmodder though.
- No one can decide whether or not you can kill people in the Pocket D... or how it works. People who hang out at Cape Shows say that Zero messes with the laws of Physics so that attacks just bounce off. Others claim powers straight up don't work. One of my toons (who has a bit of a temper issue [/understatement]) usually gets comically teleported away midlunge, though I might try the "flailing uselessly against someone" ploy. Others straight up -ignore- that rule entirely.
I would submit that the closeness and friendliness of the EU servers is directly related to their small populations - small enough that everyone knows everyone personally, and have to band together in order to accomplish anything. Not being in that situation is a luxury most of us take for granted. Here, you can (and frequently will) run into complete strangers. This can be both good and bad.
I've been on almost-empty servers in another game, and noted the same things I'm hearing from our new arrivals. Like just one or two guilds per side, because the population can't support more than that, and most would rather be in the big active guild than one that's just them and a couple of their mates. And some eventually give up and migrate to other, busier servers or games.
My characters at Virtueverse
Faces of the City
I’ve been playing (exclusively on Virtue) on and off, every few months since Beta and I can honestly say four things...
1. I rarely have trouble finding a team, and even less trouble building a team. Seems no one wants to bare the weight of responsibility one endures when they are required to recruit teammates and pick the next mission.
2. I think I have more fingers and toes than the number of people I have met more than once, including guild mates. Seems like most people get bored of their characters after a few days, switch to another and don't come back to the first one for a long time.
3. RP is exhausting. I always try to RP if someone approaches me in character, but it seems like most RPers have a certain scenario in mind when they initiate conversation and there is little that can be done to alter the inevitable outcome. I always thought it would be easier for people to RP superheroes than Fantasy characters, but I was wrong. Fantasy characters practically RP themselves and when you create a character concept from scratch, it often ends up being so filled with the ego of the creator that it stagnates any chance for meaningful RP to occur.
4. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of people who know how to run their characters in a mission, and I dare say that the creative quality of their costumes and concepts has paralleled their toon piloting skill. This is what keeps me coming back.
Im also from the EU and made the move to virtue best thing i ever did never had a issue with grps and people always online unlike our eu server.
Everything everyone's said basically sums up life in Virtue.
The only thing I'd add is that from my personal experience, Virtue tends to appeal to a more 'mature' player base, in terms of age. Maybe it's because of the RP; I don't know. But it is what I've observed, and it is one of the reasons I enjoy it.
Most people I've interacted with are around my age (20), if not older (or at least they act like it, if they're lying!), and this was one of the factors that makes Virtue feel like 'home' to me.
All in all, I don't see how anyone would be turned off by Virtue. We have EVERYTHING here. You're bound to find a community for your interests!
