1. Banning RMT ISP's wholesale would be nice, S_T, but not long ago, I heard of a few twists that the Chinese RMT groups are using to circumvent such zone banning. Although I dont have all of the specifics, it appears that they are rerouting their connections through various services. At least one of which is connected to a major regional ISP in Australia. Problem. Block that last verifiable node, and you block out a major 'legal' population.

Also, from what I recall, they were even having problems in Australia, with pinning down and locking out these rerouters. If I'm not mistaken this is just one of the octopus' tentacles. RMTers have put a lot of thought into this, and will not be easily brought down.

Then again, personally, I remain relatively unaffected or unperturbed by the RMT spam. It is second nature for me to remove spam and clear my boards; so I really dont notice them consciously. I do not like that they affect others enjoyment of the game, but they cannot affect mine since I do not wish it.
2. Yep. That costume in the link is as close to the Captain Mar-vell copyrighted costume as is possible to get in this game. Generic is legit. Sorry, but cant people be a bit more creative. None of my characters are knowlingly even close to any other comicbook-based characters (or any other genre) that I know of. And if someone says something to me about a toon, I will then research the matter and delete the toon myself if it even looks comparable. But that's just me.

I had someone gripe about one toon's name once, but that was because Marvel or DC had a couple of Biblically-named characters at one time. After checking it out, I found that the only thing genericable was the name, and since it was essentially public domain (being a Biblical proper name). I do not worry it. As I wouldnt worry about a toon named Deborah (also a Biblical proper name).

Healing roles?

Heroside: Defenders and Controllers can take on the role of Healers.
Villainside: Corruptors and MasterMinds can take on the role of Healers.

BUT they are not only Healers. This game doesnt run as some others do; where an Archetype is primarily part of a certain formula. I have read about other games where the formula is Melee/Range/Healer (or Buffer) or other such permutations. In CoH this may be a smidge more true than CoV where the ATs are designed to be more self-contained and soloable, but calling A Defender HE4LOR is shortsighted (and in some peoples minds almost offensive apparently).
4. Ninus

Widescreen?

Yes, the game will adjust for widescreen viewing. The only things that will not appear exactly correct are the load screens. They will still fill the screen, but depending on your resolution they will be slightly deformed from the widening of the graphic. It's not terribly noticeable.

I cant handle playing on my wife's 'standard' monitor though. So, widescreen does sorta ruin you for that.
5. Ninus

Music

I take it that was a comment to the OP and not me. For my part I always have the 'theme music' in game set to 0, and often either dont have the sound on at all while I talk with the wife during play. It makes those 'Click the Glowie' missions a lot more exciting, and precog.
6. I've said it before; I'll say it again. Everything need to be a game mechanic to be RP'd? One cant just type out some praise for a player or teammate? If one is too lazy to RP something thoughtfully; why RP?

This time I'm honestly not trying to be snarky. I really dont get it.

Just make a keybind to praise a $target with "Wow! I heard that $target really laid the hurting down on the CoT." or somesuch. You wont often be wrong, and nobody but the $target will know if they even came near any CoT in the past month anywho.
7. Ninus

Music

iTunes, Windows Media Player, MP3 player, or your clock radio work just as well, dont cost anything in Dev time, and in the case of your own MP3 player or clock radio; they dont ding your System performance at all.
8. Meh! Pirate MasterMinds will never happen. You ever seen a group of pirates that could take orders 'to the death'? There would have to be an escalating possibility of any Pirate henchman sneaking up behind the Pirate MM and slitting his throat per summons. It wouldnt be pretty. Or at least the same chance that the pirate henchie would decide to pop open a bottle of rum and leave the battle to sleep it off.
9. Ninus

Judicial System

A necessary game mechanic for this Suggestion would be that each 'properly adjudicated and convicted felon' would be removed from the game for a proscribed period of time. Thus visibly making the 'streets safer'.

Of course, then along comes that "Defeat 30 Family" mission... and "Hey! WTH did all the Family go? Guess I go without that costume slot til next month."

I'm really not into RP, but why do those who want to RP have to have it handed to them on a silver platter? Cant one just 'RP the Law & Order: Heroic Intent' in their heads?
10. You lost any semblance of credibility with this post.

another game i play phantasy star universe which is $9.99/month. it came out in october 2006. and ppl complain about the fee there all the time. and sometimes i subscribe to wow. also xbox live $50/yr these fees add up. 9.99 for psu, 14.99 for wow, 14.99 for coh. thats 50+ a month on games. this adds up.

along with about 200 to 300 on groceries/alcohol/restaurants per month, 279 for rent each month. 40/mo to my brother for doing the dishes, and cleaning the apartment. 20 for adult entertainment. 50 for car insurance. 25 for renters insurance. 10 for life insurance. 30+ for gas. i'm gonna have to pay for dental insurance soon. also money for furniture, new bed, bedding stuff, electronics, soon a new $1200 computer. also other games i buy such as sf4, fightpad controller, defense grid, castle crashers, ssf2thdr and other games, video rentals. and medical expenses i just paid 735 for a hospitol bill, credit report 25. gambling, movie theateres, postal stamps, luckily no credit cards currently. and i get about $900/month from disability, and i live in north county san diego, ca. i'm not working right now. soon i'll go back to work after i have a cataract in my eye removed. then i go back to pizza delivery for round table while getting disability.

i'm surprised so many ppl were against this. you must be rich or are you brats that live off your parents. how easily do you give away your money. talk about trolls, and flaming. it seems like you should want to save money not give it away. what are you gonna do when champions comes out? pay another 14.99 or let your characters die? i'll probably subscribe to this on, and off like i do wow. and switch to champions maybe when it comes out. also i was only trying this game out to see wheter i like it or if it was worth it, not promising to be a lifetime subscriber.

[/ QUOTE ]

As has been stated: your Money Management skills leave a lot to be desired. That's a lot of 'Entertainment' spending for anyone on a fixed or semi-fixed income. You pay your brother to be your maid? Come now. If you can deliver a pizza, you can wipe a plate, and push a vacuum. If your doing it so your brother can have some 'folding cash'; well, that's mighty nice of you, but I work 12 hour days as a trucker and still 'find' the time to do housework for an hour or so each night, and I have a wife and kids!

Notice the Location under my avatar; I know what prices are around here. Your rent is durned cheap, and you have a maid. Meh! I support a family of four and have to watch my pennies, and I only play one game; this one. I dont have ADHD, so I dont have to bounce around. PLUS being fiscally responsible precludes spending that much on entertainment.

Sweet crikey, flame-bait, get a clue! You dont need to be rich or a 'brat living off your parents' to see that the price of this MMO is a fair market price. You spend at least $30 a month more than I do on entertainment, and I entertain 4 humans, a dog, 2 cats and a goldfish with it!

I'm sorry to call names, and Mod8 will be around presently to stifle the flames soon I am sure, and I apologize for my railing, but I'll be darned if I will let some fiscally irresponsible mook start calling names without reacting.

Please leave. Save the $14.99/month. Maybe you can give it to your brother so he can wipe your tochis for you too

.
Again I apologise for my words to my fellow Forumites, and Mod8, but a man can only be pushed so far, and some things cant just be ignored no matter how ignorant they are.
11. On Cel-Shading:

I decided to try the install of CO that my son had left running while he was off doing something else. I swear I was punching buttons, moving my mouse, and all to no avail...

then I realized I had been 'playing' the Windows Desktop graphic for 5 minutes.
12. So far, I dont see the appeal or rationale for the model you are proposing. To a point, I dont see that it is actually all that different from the MMO models already available either, just barely tweaked by your use of a separate 'Lobby' Server or System prior to actual gameplay. Though I am not a coder, I've got to think that there is a reason why this isnt either feasible or desirable to do.

I guess we could do something like this right now with Server transfers and a Forum on these very Boards being used as some sort of 'Lobby'. Or no need for a Lobby at all if each Guild or group of friends had their own chat room or somesuch using one of the already available programs out there like X-Fire. If Server transfers were free this would probably be used for such a System, but the games builtin naming conventions makes that problematic unless one doesnt mind being randomly renamed each time you log into a separate game Server (ie; regular Ninus could be Ninus1 or Ninus32 or Ninus 14983 during any play session depending on how many Ninuses are logged in for the day).

Like I said, I see it as bringing up as many problems as it solves (at least solved to your liking), and I dont even kow how to code or what the feasiblility is of such coding. Interesting idea though.
13. :sigh:

Not 'counter-intuitive again. One of these days I'm gonna tear those 'Word of the Day' calendars up.

You must remember: game is not played in a vacuum. There be Heroes there too. Wild guess would either be one of the following:

1) Completely arbitrary. Themz da breaks, kiddoo!

2) Heroes do not get a time travel mission or arc in normal play as the mission holder until approximately lvl 25 or thereabouts. We gotta be fair; just like the Devs always say.

Heck, it's possible to get on a team doing Portal missions at lvl 1 so NOT getting the O-Portal at that level would be counter-intuitive. Not what i think, but it stands to reason.
14. Well, people's pet paradigms notwithstanding; the Devs Do listen to player feedback both here and in game. So by the time CoV was in development, things had been tightened up considerably. Many really 'old timers' will tell you that much of the content was a time sink to give the Devs and the fledgling MMO a chance to feel out their community and improve the already developing first Issues. Logic bears this out, as do the changes implemented early in the game. Most if not all 'time sinks' had been nixed by CoV beta. Such as:
<ul type="square">[*]Multiple Zone hops to get to a mission. Nuf said. [*]Redundant Content to Contacts (due to Origin-based Contact System. Eliminates confusion for Badge/Accolade earning. Check Red Tomax's Mission/Contact lists to verify Mission Proliferation blueside) [*]Defeat all and Street Hunts. Filler that often doesnt truly advance a story's plot.[*]Multiple divisions of Zone-Level content. Reduces confusion about 'where to now?' [*]Timed Missions and Instant Timed Followups. People enjoy a challenge, but dont like to fail especially when RL reasserts its priority over playtime.
Just to name a few.

Vintage Cape?

Heh. MA should have come with a truly special 'vintage' cape all its own. Would've gone well with all the 'whine'.

Sorry, my bad comedy resistance is low today.

Anyone know if the new boxes come with a decent manual? Something compariable to the original COH manual. The COV manual was kind of 'eh.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, having multiple copies of both manuals, I found the CoH manual a smidge lighter, and the CoV manual gave a little more background then the blueside offered.

That being said, all that remains of any 'manual' in the latest boxes on the market (GvE &amp; MA) is a foldout Default Key Map. I don't think manuals will ever make a full return to PC gaming except for a fex somewhat complex titles here and there.
17. I know from your posts here that you are at least a bit of a Power Gamer, Black. So, I think you understand that at least some of the low level content can get a little long-in-the-tooth even for a short term player. Personally, I haven't seen even half the content Heroside even in my long term here. So, I'm not looking at boredom or 'gotta get to 30 NAO!' anytime soon on my lowbie Heroes. I have seen all the content Vill side, but that was on purpose, with one toon, and most of the content on my next 50 redside. Stiill not bored with it after slowleveling a 3rd 50.

Perhaps for some of us, it will never be a problem. But even I have to admit some parts can feel like a grind when your toon either isn't 'built' to be effective against X level enemies that are prolific at whatever level. Most of my toons have some group they are just torture to play against while my main (and most played) toon just chews up the baddies. I'll never stop playing when I'm having that kind of fun eventhough I do grind away badges with him.

Everyone's just got to find their niche, and for some it isn't the stories (eventhough they are generally good). I can't say that TFs/SFs are on my list of ways to level, but to each their own.
18. [ QUOTE ]

People dont wanna waste their life away grinding.
99% of the people who play this game PL &amp; its been like that since I started this game yrs ago.

GL to them trying to nerf PL.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nerf PL? Already been done with most every 'well known' exploit in tha game. And that's where the Devs appear to draw that line. Plus it really depends on your definition of PL. As an adjunct of Power Gaming; no Developer will ever successfully remove Power Leveling from any game which employs 'levels'. It is part and parcel of the Power Gaming paradigm.

As far as limiting areas of Power Gaming such as exponentially faster leveling or garnering of rewards; again, this has already been done, and could be done again. Whether that would be good for MA or the game as a whole remains to be seen. To be consistent though, the Devs will have to nerf or remove major exploitable content whenever it is identified.

There are still AE farms out there that give the 'broken' Rikti Comm style XP out there (apparently), and gathering a good mix of ATs for a highpowered session of gaming will always make the leveling ratio nudge into PL territory, but then it is only a matter of degree at that point.

Where I see the Community's problem with this is twofold:
<ul type="square">[*]Some have found that these 'n00bish' 50's detract from the gaming experience (read: fun) because they have little to no experience or skill playing their toons effectively in a team environment. How could they? They never 'played' as a team member. The Community is correct. At least, until the n00b learns how to play his toon which depends on how much the n00b puts into his PL'd toon. Some will become good teammates; many (if not most) will not.

My POV: the one's who do not get a clue wouldn't have learned or stayed with the game even if they doubled the amount of XP/time it took to get to 50; so the actual effect on the game (and fun) is negligible.
[*]Some will say that their ability to find a non-farm team and 'normal' gameplay is diminished; making the game less enjoyable overall. And that these AE teams should be forced out into the light to team 'like everyone else.'

My POV: this is shortsighted. As I and others have stated: MA is big shiny, but the shine will wear off, and a number will return to 'normal' play. I don't think that all of them will because frankly many people are bored with the older content, and MA delivers a new path which indeed the Devs even advertise as 'a player can go from level 1 to 50 doing only AE missions'.

Patience is the virtue which will be tested for the players with this mindset, but all signs point to the shine wearing off (albeit slowly) as expected.
A final note that I cannot stress enough to those who wish the Devs to so nerf/gimp MA as to force players out into regular teams: if you think that the Plers and farmers will make teaming easier or teams more available and fun, you are wrong. First: they will not team with you if you are strict in how you wish a team to run. Second: you really don't want to team with them because they will most likely never conform to your idea of normal, fun gameplay.

Now as far as 99% of players PLing? Ridiculous... for the msot part. I don't even think that 50% of the playerbase even PowerGames. They will gladly garner a little extra XP here and there, or even truly PL if they feel stuck in level overly long, but once they get over whatever personal obstacle that normal gameplay has imposed on them they return to normal play readily.

But even the Devs cannot 'force' this upon them. So, don't worry or fret about it.

Farm, or do not. There is no whine.

The use of the pack doesn't violate the EULA. The way they got the maps to make the pack, however, does.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you sure? I could get the base maps without violating the EULA.

Yes, if they got it via pigg-diving, it's a no-no. But if they mapped in the whole zone, turned off map icons, and resized the map as large as it allowed, then took screenshots, there's no EULA violation. Unless the developers of the map packs step forward and say how they did it, there's no proof of a foul.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I didnt do the work for Vidiots, but I did it for my old game Network, and I did it in just this way. Since we wanted to make our own maps, and I refuse to plagiarize another's work even on such a simple matter. I would guess that the Vids people would have gone about getting the maps in the most non-EULA breaking manner possible in order to make the add-on more acceptable to the Devs.

Sheesh, Zek, taking a lot of context out of a minimum of data. I love sandbox play; where and when apropos. BUT my use of the term was not what you take it as, but more of the literal meaning. Let me rephrase the OP as it appears to be intended.

"Hey Devs, will you make a tool so that I can place any character ingame or that I create into and map, room, situation that is ingame or I create so that I can make movies? PEEEEZE! Don't want no risk/reward system. Heck, I don't want no game play. I just want a Paragon Studios created movie studio with tech support so I can be the monster of the YouTube."

Meh. Sandbow Play is fine, and I support it. Redirecting corporate assets to support YouTube movies instead of the game; not so much. But I waste my time paying to play the game, not watching Batman in Paragon on YouTube. I don't see your point.

And yeah, I have enjoyed and supported Valve and it's games since the became Valve.
23. Ninus

A Green Room

Yep. That is one use for Demorecord. Thank you, D_R. Bugs, glitches, fanflics, personal achievement records, and what DemoRecord was created for even in MS Windows... (wait for it)... as a training aid! C'mon, Bill, I know you know what I meant.

PLUS the possibility of abuse (specifically trademark abuse as I alluded to) make this a no-brainer on the 'bad idea' walk of selfish shame. Mechanima? Fine. I have no problem with it per se, but let's try and make suggestions that have at least a passing use in game. This does not enhance any part of gameplay that cannot be worked around fairly easily using the present tools as, I hear, ia done by peoples like Michelle/D-R.

Sorry I don't generally watch fanflics or demorecords other than for the aforementioned reasons. I'm not against them, I just don't have time.

Low blow on the badging as I was just stating an example of something I also felt was a useless request. When I badge I generally do so solo unless it is impossible to do so, and I only intrude on my closest ingame friends when I need a hand in much the same way that I would drop anything to help them with something they wish. I like the idea per se, but can't fool myself into thinking there is any 'valid' reason for it.

And I don't know anyone who has been affected positively or negatively by any fanflics. Sorry, D_R. I'm sure you do fine work.

To what gaming end that furthers the commercial enterprise of Paragon Studios, makers of City of Heroes? You want a sandbox to create your own 'Batman' fanflick or something? Not to be snarky... well, actually, to be completely snarky, learn to code, and create your own 'Actor's Studio' to create videos in. Sheesh.

Simple he says. Probably... but why? Give a valid ingame use, and I will retract my snark publicly.

It would also be easy for them to just give my Badger all the Badges, Vill and Heroside, but they wont. Unless I can talk Posi into it just to totally freak BeefCake out.
