Done the arc on a Bane without enhancements (red SOs) just two days ago. No temps used, just my 20 insp slots. I'm having more and more trouble to believe people have genuine issues with Trapdoor.

Quote:I think Stimulant is better. Aid Other is a weak heal with low range, and anytime spent healing is time you could have been doing damage - which often is a better way to help your squishie friend, i.e. by defeating that boss pounding him rather than spend five seconds to heal a third of the damage he'll take from each blow.
I would think Aid Other would come in useful more often than Stimulant, but I could be wrong.
On the other hand, Stimulant can be used preemptively before a tough battle, during downtime, and it's also great to get people back on their feet faster after they pop a wakie (they don't always have a breakfree handy). I've even used it in the middle of AV fights, when I see a squishie getting mezzed by what I know is a very long mez (i.e. malta stun grenades in the second RSF mission). -
Time is the real currency. Inf is just pretend money. Takes too long to outfit toons with A merits alone for me. I still find farming with an character made for it to be much faster, though it is less fun as it's random and can't be done with any character just like A merits, and I still find marketeering to be vastly superior to either choice once you've got capital, though it is a snoozefest since the new interface.

It adds an extra 50% base damage to Typhoon's Edge, and KDs.

Quote:Nope, I never said that, you're the one who brought up the "anyone who doesn't hit the target cap with CC isn't trying". I'd give Footstomp a 7-8 target average personally, usually (but not always) the full ten when fights start and less than that as stuff start dying.
I hope you're not saying that Foot Stomp hits the target max every single time it's used. That's an absurd argument, and is against Mace's cones as well.
Quote:But your argument was that cones are hard to position to hit multiple foes, which in the case of Crowd Control, is ridiculous assertion.
Quote:If several foes are standing in front of your tank, and you use an attack with a 180 degree cone, how can you NOT hit most of them?
Your typical enemy group in x8 is what, 8-10 minions, 3-4 lieuts, 1-2 bosses, all in all about 14-16 mobs usually scattered over a ~20 feet radius, sometimes less or more depending on enemy faction and map. It's extremely rare for me to just jump in and have more than 3-4 targets just in front of me, only after they gather a bit I might have maybe 7-8, keyword being "might" because by that point 2-3 seconds have elapsed and some of the minions are already wiped out either by my AoEs or from someone else's.
Again, video would be convenient, because there's been so many words thrown around and obviously if you're right and I'm wrong then I'm missing something that you can't convey in words or that I'm too dense to understand.
Quote:Strawman. Never said that War Mace has better AoE than SS, as a matter of fact, I said just the opposite.
My point was that there's been many words exchanged about War Mace being great and super easy to use but never any tangible proof for us non-believers. How much more hours should we collectively waste arguing back and forth on this where a simple ten minute video of straight footage could not only illustrate the point of pro-WM folks but also show people who can't do it how it's done?
I realise I'm part of the problem by replying at all and will stop after this - and if there's an actual video posted please PM me about it, because if I read the thread further I'll keep falling into answering and derailing the topic. -
Doesn't really perform, if you ask me, and I'm assuming it works when I say that.
In a toggle, it'll activate once every 10 seconds, which might or might not be when you're actually in melee range with enemies, and then it's only a X% chance (20%? 33%?) to apply a tohit debuff, which is, given that most of the foes around you are minions, a few are lieutenants and only one or two are bosses, most of the time going to end up on minions that are already stunned from OG, being essentially wasted.
Then there's the purple patch and frankly, there's too many "if" in there for me already, I like my mitigation to be reliable. YMMV and I'll confess I haven't actually used it, because a casual glance at the numbers doesn't make me want to. -
Hitting the target cap once, or even multiple times in a given mission? Sure.
Hitting the target cap 100% of the time by wasting time herding to corners? Sure.
Hitting the target cap 100% of the time, using the power every time it's up as well as other AoEs (that is, no time spent positioning when you could be attacking), in a fast-paced team environment over, say, a thirty minute period on a task like an ITF? Never seen it, highly doubt I'll ever see it, not holding my breath on seeing a player doing it ingame or a video of it being done.
Again, there's always been talk on the boards about how trivial it is to do, but all those pro players are nowhere to be seen in the teams I've been in. There was that one time when people argued "WM > SS", and Smurphy offered to watch and time people, using HeroStats, as they used their WM character, and then run the results against his own SS numbers (or run the same mission under the same conditions himself with other people watching). Somehow nobody ever took him up on that offer, and the WM > SS discussion faded into obscurity shortly thereafter. -
Yeah, they stack just fine. I suppose Obscure Blade might be confused about the change - they used to be unresistable -res, so 3-4 of them would send your res to negative numbers even on a Granite tanker. Now, the debuff is resisted by your resistances, so if you have good resistances, sonic grenades aren't the showstopper they used to be.

Frozen Aura got a boost and is now a Footstomp clone, albeit with a smaller radius (10' rather than 15'). Between that and Frost Ice Melee can pump out some decent AoE damage now, though the ST damage remains poor.
Dual Blades, Battle Axe and War Mace aren't too shabby at AoE either if you can handle the cones. Big "if", because outside of spreadsheet theorycraft I don't see cones hitting anywhere near *half* their potential overall in, say, an ITF or something [edit : poorly phrased/overstatement, as reading Telperion's post made me realise. I don't want to imply a cone like CC would hit an average of 2-3 or something, 5-6 avg is closer to what I see.] Of course, I can't rule out the possibility that anybody I've ever played with including myself completely suck at the game and that there's an infinitely small subset of players who know how to use cones, which is why I'm naming these powersets at all.
Stone Melee has got great ST damage and a decent, although slow activating AoE in Tremor ; same radius as Footstomp so very user friendly, and between Shield Charge and an eventual AoE epic it could deal OKish AoE damage. Given what you seem to be looking for I'd say this feels like the best pick out of your possible choices.
Though I feel obligated to add "best pick" might still turn out to be a poor choice in this case, because you seem to have very high expectations for performance. SS and Fire are definitely the top performers in overall damage (ST + AOE), and if you feel the other powersets already look far inferior on paper, you might be disappointed in game. -
Nope, you're stuck with the 2 minute uptime 4 minute downtime (or whatever it is ; long time since I've logged a WP/Shield alt).

He seems to avoid the brute forums lately, I wonder why !
On topic : I don't know if Inv/DB would make such a great AV soloer. I've ran the numbers on it (admittedly before Bruising) and came with about 110-120 DPS with BF->AV and all procs (purple damage procs + achilles heel + fury of the gladiator). Let's make a bold assumption and assume Bruising + Alpha Slot bumps this up to 140-150 DPS. Sounds enough, right? Except it's all lethal damage which is often resisted by AVs, so you're going to be looking at either 30+ minute fights or simply plain impossible to defeat AVs. I wouldn't settle for any less than 160 DPS on a lethal damage melee character, and being above 170-180 is much preferable IMHO.
On the other hand, I certainly wouldn't mind having such a character on my team. With three different res debuffs, one of them perma, while also having extremely strong defenses and aggro control, it looks like that combo has a lot to offer to teams. -
Quote:I really need to get myself friends like that.
Eh I have a buddy with about 90 bil stocked up and doesnt have any toons to slot, she said shed help me if I actualy lvl the toon and not just ask for the money :P -
I'm not sure what do you mean by high end stuff, but if it involves teaming I'd go with Invul simply because of the stronger aggro aura.

Quote:This room is actually the one used in Burkholder's TF and possibly other places, minus the giant robot.
If they didn't want us to be able to roast him, they would never of made that custom room for him.
Gotta love how people are going "non-exploitive tactics", "thinking outside the box" and ****. Pulling isn't exactly rocket science, and it's pretty obvious by the big, bold flashing messages in front of your screen that you're supposed to play the encounter by defeating his reflections.
Besides, if your character can't even defeat an Elite Boss by level 50... Should he really be an Incarnate?
That said, I can't say I care for the changes either way, I'm just reacting to the reactions. -
Quote:I can solo every mission meant to be soloed (by which I mean everything but TFs) on any character. Ergo, when someone complains something is far too difficult for them to solo it is absolutely their fault and not the devs'.
If missions weren't normally meant to be soloed, there wouldn't be increased difficulty for teams, or mission arcs that *require* teams. Ergo, when something is far too difficult for me to solo it is absolutely their fault.
Interesting idea to assume a game with hundreds of thousands of subscribers should be balanced around you and you alone, but I'm afraid things don't work that way. At best, you can end up having the same views as the majority, but with 12,000 posts under your forum name you're fooling yourself if you think you're any representative of the average CoH player. -
Yet another of those. You know the drill, 3 billions or above. Send a tell to @Dacc or PM me here.
-
I think the CoH engine makes for a poor storytelling environment, even if it's getting slightly better these last issues (but then, these new interactive options aren't available in AE).
Even if the above wasn't an issue, another problem is most people who think they can write can't write. Combine that with a faulty rating system, and it's not worth sifting through ten mediocre arcs to find a single good one (and I'm being generous with the ratios here). -

"Huge Success" -
Between inherent Fitness, the Alpha Slot and the two new TFs, I find I19 to be a complete success. Nobody is holding a gun to my head forcing me to rush through all of my alts, so I don't really feel the "grind".

Quote:Thanks man, but don't get me wrong ; he might value his pride to be worth under 12 billion inf, but I value getting a good laugh at the expense of someone calling me stupid and ridiculous when I feel it is uncalled for (well, I can be stupid and ridiculous sometimes
If it makes you feel better I'll send you something. ? ) to be worth over 12 billion inf.

As was expected by many, nothing has showed up in my email box. I've glanced through the connected list on the boards and saw him on for several hours since I posted the video, so it's not just that he hasn't been around either.
Seems like St0ner's word is worth less than some pretend money in a video game. -
Even when comparing "pure" damage ATs, CoH isn't some static game where you stand still and pound on stuff, sometimes that guy who's spending 3 seconds jumping to kill the surgeon or whatever lieut/boss is aiming for a squishie is doing more for the team than the guy in the middle of the pack doing Footstomp. A tool like this would be pretty much useless for the purpose of determining contribution in TFs.
As for calculating DPS when solo, anyone who passed primary school and has enough computer skills to download/open an Excel (or free software equivalent) spreadsheet can already do it just fine.
I'm not against it, but I fail to see the point of this feature, while I can think of a hundred better things to add/fix. -
Quote:What's "significantly faster"? 20%? 10%? Because I doubt you can get a 100% improvement, like, say, doing an Eden in 3 minutes - and yet 6 minutes Edens have been done on SOs.
And those same people, with IOs, do those same speed runs significantly faster as a team with just SOs would.
On the other hand, your average PuG running through Eden takes, or used to anyway, about 2 hours or so. 6 minutes compared to 120 minutes - do I need to spell out the math here?
There's really no big argument to have. IOs can be a crutch helping players who don't know/abuse (again, pick your word based on perception) the game mechanics perform better, but for those of us who already did, the difference is ridiculously small. Most of what you can get from IOs, you can get from insps/buffs/debuffs, and insps/buffs/debuffs also offer more than what you can get from IOs. -
Quote:Aw, man. And here I finally thought I might play a crab on the second build of my bane. Oh well, that was a nice try and thanks for sharing.
EDIT: Changing zones WILL put the backpack back on.
