I've managed to outlevel contacts while stealthing missions. How Scythus can do what he does is beyond me. Exceptional amount of deaths (and debt)? Or perhaps this is just a clever way to say he doesn't play Praetoria.

Compared to your average 23 years old on the Internet, she sounds like an adult.
-
Another option, a better option, would be for the playerbase as a whole to grow a pair and use the LFG tool instead of preforming teams for a god damn level 2 trial.

Quote:I'm going to take a (not so) wild guess and assume this isn't the case, simply because unless you've got a schizophrenic-like split personality thing going on the boards, you're a gigantic, bigotic and xenophobic pain in the *** whereas he seems like a decent guy.
If I had to guess, it's probably because I'm a popular person where people avoid you.
It doesn't seem too much of a stretch to assume you are someone for whom popularity is an important thing, and that you made the whole story up just to pretend you're some kind of internet celebrity everyone cares about; and yet I bet we won't see a single person popping up in this thread vouching for this supposed reality. -
Quote:Me, I feel bad for people using Vista/7 with the default GUI look. So ugly and such a step backwards compared to the clean, neat, ergonomic WinXP interface. :|
I always feel so bad for people who play the game on such low graphics. I would give you all decent graphics cards if I could. You poor people. This game is so pretty on higher graphics settings. -
You do not need to detoggle travel powers to enter a gravity geyser. I frequently run in with super speed without slowing down, it works fine.
Some don't work perfectly, and minor adjustements are needed while in the air. Obviously better if this was fixed, but to claim the feature as a whole is broken is a gross exaggeration. -
Quote:Idiots like the OP? You see one or two every now and then, but the much bigger pool of people who believe flawless spelling and grammar have any relevancy in good writing is the reason fanfiction or roleplaying isn't worth caring about. Words are only a means to convey information, as long as it is intelligible there's little point making a fuss over technical mistakes. It would be slightly less vomit-inducing if the person trying to tell us all how writing works could figure out how spelling and grammar work first.
It's like an audiophile calling himself a musician, an awareness activist claiming to be a revolutionary, a geek obsessed about linux distros posing as a computer scientist; and yet, in writing communities everyone is just a "writer". Hogwash! -
Thanks for the explanations everyone, and boo NCSoft web guy.

I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I think the names are bolded on the topic listing and I assume they weren't before. This makes it extremely hard to browse the boards for me, with names jumping out and blurring with topic titles rather than being nicely understated like (again, I assume) before.
Anyone else seeing this? I'm not even sure if this is a bug or a change on purpose, can't find any thread on this topic. If it is intended, is there any way at the user level to fix this? -
Quote:Won't happen from me. Not even sure I got the skillz - I suck at controllers. But really, the main stinker is, as DreadShinobi points out, the need for 8 VIP accounts (even as fillers it's a bother as I doubt this sort of venture would be a success on first go).
Perfectly willing to be proven wrong on that score, though.
I'm confident the final fight wouldn't be impossible, provided you manage to complete the sabotage phase with all acids and grenades. For a ranged character with level shifts, lambda Marauder is little more than the original weak +1 AV ; the extra HP and time limit are a bother but Ill/Cold with Lore can deal quite a lot of DPS against a (mostly) static target.
The trouble is that this relies on lots of if, no argument. Got to make that sabotage flawless, got to have PA focused on / nades affecting Marauder just right every time so he never 2-hit KOs you, etc.. Definitely lots of thing that can and would likely go wrong.
Perhaps SS/Fire would be a better choice indeed. I kind of ruled it out because I was still stuck in the old uber Unstoppable and heightened S/L res mindset.

Oh come on, logout bug while sitting on this page writing this post, really? Boo, forum software. Boo. -
My slight astimagtism kicked in and, despite having already read this topic, I forgot I did and thought the title said "do your characters aoe?". My characters don't age, but I certainly do.
-
Lambda has been duoed by various combinations, I don't think even soloing it "legit" (just one account being played) is impossible, provided you keep 7 other accounts standing at the entrance as to not get automatically kicked from the not enough players thingy.
You can get 10/10 in the collection phase as a solo player playing one character with high damage alts by smashing 2-3 crates, going back to the other side, smashing 2-3 containment chambers, going back, and so on (milking the extra time efficiently). It's tight, but definitely possible - and this I say from first hand experience, although I've only done it a handful of times and on "direct" damage characters, i.e. melee alts.
That's perhaps the one potential hiccup. You'd obviously want to be a strong debuffer for the final part, and illusion, as often, seems tailor-made for the task between PA and psi damage; but while something like an ill/cold is a potentially extremely high damage alt, much of that damage comes from pets and static debuffs, and a perfect sabotage phase might not be as easy to pull off. You really want to drop those crates in mere seconds as travel time will take quite a lot. Seeing as you get containment on crates and chambers it might be possible to build a nice enough direct damage attack chain. -
Quote:... Two of those three level shifts only work in incarnate trials, and +4/x8 arachnos is one of the hardest faction out there, if not the absolute hardest, for anyone who isn't playing something with capped DDR or close to it.
Edit: Meaning: +4/x8 arachnos doesn't mean much with three level shifts.
This is the kind of ignorant comment coupled with a know-it-all attitude that made me put you on ignore, alright. Shame I get to see your posts every now and then due to the forum logout bug. -
So should you. Whether this is efficient or not is irrelevant; people aren't efficient. Herding has never been efficient for that matter, but the amount of player knowledge back then was even lower than it is right now, including many of the people who like to think they've got it all figured out now (and many of these people will have too much internet pride to admit they were wrong about herding before).
So people would do it again, with the scenarios pointed out above. Yes, we get that you only care about yourself and your own scenario would be "solo dude with buffer". Now, even if you completely lack any empathy, surely you can be intelligent enough to understand other people are not you, and ignoring their concerns because you don't share them isn't going to convince even a toddler. -
Quote:I doubt it's actually possible to fail at solo content in this game on -1/x1 unless you purposefully build and play to do so. I've rerolled a CoV alt just a few months ago and went level 1 to 44 on premium (SOs only), doing all the new content available at this time on +1/x8. I guess if I refused to use Rest or inspirations as they drop the story might play out differently at that reputation, but I'm having a hard time even conceptualizing the idea of a character not being able to progress on -1/x1. I'd be genuinely interested in seeing video footage of such a thing, ideally with UI included and build details.
I know I've made these threads occasionally and never followed up on them, but it's starting to become very, very clear that I may simply no longer have a choice in the matter if I intend to play any part of the game newer than 2009 or so. -
Quote:Holy ****. Now I understand why you're saying running trials is a stupid idea.
A single Hero Merit gets 10 Converters.
As for following your strategy... I'm already sitting on ~100 billion liquid influence and I don't know what to do with it. I resubbed 15 days ago partly because I didn't want those market bids storing the money to vanish, as at that point it was 59 days since I stopped paying. Yep, I guess I value pretendy pixel money I don't even have an use for in a game I don't even play anymore, because omgz there's a lot of zeroes in 100B. That's sad enough, and you want me to earn *more*?... -
Lohenien - what mauk2 was saying is PVP farming doesn't generate a lot of influence. PVP farmers get a lot of influence from other people who buy their stuff, yes, and end up very wealthy as a result ; but influence is mostly brought in the system out of thin air by defeating enemies and selling common recipes to vendors.
Fulmens - as I recall it, 3 million influence from defeats alone per minute was more or less the standard for highend farming before slots beyond alpha were added. Of course, AE was nerfed since then as well, people who farm tickets generally generate less influence (lower rep) and you'd want to add loading times and time spent rolling tickets to that. I'm guessing 1-1.5 million influence per minute is still a reasonable and conservative assumption. -
Quote:... That's what I'm telling you is happening. Dev team purposefully introduce things that go against the point of the game, for the sake of keeping players playing (paying). There is less and less numerical balance. There is less and less opportunity balance. It's essentially a long run of special offers, designed to appeal to the gotta have it all nature of people as well as the natural arms race mentality that goes in every PVP-centered game.
But the original point was that no dev team believes that having a game that functions contrary to the intent of the implementation is a good idea.
I guess you could say your point means a properly functioning multiplayer game is a game with players, but if so that's banging open doors and saying essentially nothing. There is more to a game, even a multiplayer one, than just people. Otherwise it might as well be a chatroom, or a facebook wall.
You could also argue FarmVille is one of the better functioning games out there, but damn. If you define a properly functioning game as something that takes a lot of money from a lot of people to redistribute it to a much smaller pool of people, it works, but to me that's confusing quantity with quality. You bet every decision of theirs is intended - intended to maximise profits, intended to exploit people's weaknesses and addictions ; not intended to deliver a quality game experience.
I'm not peeing in your cornflakes here. If you'd step back for a second and stop considering every forum post as an argument you have to win, you'd see that. Crack dealers being successful doesn't invalidate the pharmaceutical industry.
...Ok, perhaps a bad analogy, as both are as crooked if in a different way and would fit better to illustrate the two examples I've named. Pharmaceutical industry vs doctors, perhaps.
There's two ways to sell a game, carrot or stick. This game fortunately sticks with the carrot most of the time, but not every other game out there does the same. -
Quote:I think everyone, and I do mean everyone without exception, playing that game would find this quote very amusing.
Except they do that deliberately. For them, that is "properly functioning."
For that matter, even the head developer herself (who is... an university student. Yeah.) doesn't like the current situation and considers it broken. She's stuck with the current publisher, which is some flight sim company interested in milking licenses and won't sell the rights. -
Quote:Perhaps you were just talking about peacebringers, but as it's unspecified I'm going to use the excuse to jump on my soapbox once more.In the KB vs KD debate, there is none, choose another powerset if you want KD and not KB. The sets that have KB have it there for a reason, a reason that plenty use to their advantage. Powersets that have KB just may not be for you period end of discussion.
With Kinetic Melee and Quick Strike, I strongly suspect that reason was "we didn't consider the level shift / threw a random value that we thought would be KD against appropriate level foes", and I don't know how could anyone manage to use a 25% chance to KB one -1 foe to their advantage. -
I'd buff kinetic melee, selfishly, as this is my current favorite powerset to play.
Quick Strike - reduce the knockback magnitude to 0.67 (from 0.7) like every other melee KD power out there, so it doesn't knockback -1s, i.e. level 50s while alpha shifted...
Power Siphon - reduce cast time to 1.056s (from 2.112s).
Burst - increase radius to 10 feet (from 8 feet).
Which are fixes I think would greatly improve quality of life while only slightly buffing performance. -
It'd be cool if Coyote travel was unsuppressed movement. This way there'd be a point to use it over Ninja/Beast in missions, and there'd still be a drawback with the detoggling thing.
-
Defensive Sweep does 10s -20% res on tankers (ST, like other T1s), I wouldn't use it as a mule.

Quote:I've been keeping an eye on a small MMO (the "massively" part really doesn't belong, but that's what it's called) that shouldn't have any business being still played, much less paid for, and yet still is, mostly thanks to the dev team introducing horribly overpowered things every now and then, often for limited amount of times. Balance has been turned on its head multiple times to the point I'm not sure anyone sees the big picture, power creeps up in spikes and that keeps an hardcore fanbase playing, for the sake of getting that next elite item that will obliterate everything and so on.
So I'll terminate that line of thought by saying its considered an axiom that a properly functioning game is better for the long term health of the game, and no one that actually builds MMOs that I'm aware of questions that axiom.
If anyone wants to look it up (mostly because I wouldn't blame you if you think I'm making this up), it's called Helbreath. Be warned, the community is very abrasive.
