This is one of the huge reasons why I didn't like WoW (when I was in the beta for it 5+ years ago). I get a quest, "Go talk to x person in y city." I can find the city easily enough (since it was on the map) but finding that one person? ugh....annoying!

I don't like "wasting" time looking for something.
    Mankrik's wife...?

...Well, this situation would make it more fun that scouring a massive zone for a clickie, anyway.
  2. I can see it now... Black Pebble...

You can have Granite Armor, only HUGE and obsidian and Monolithy.
  3. You know what I think is a pretty cool way of advertising? I used to see these little cards that you could redeem for a month of playtime and a jetpack all the time, but when I actually went to go look for one, I couldn't find a single copy. (Indeed, the only copy of CoH I could find was a single Architect Edition Disk at Gamestop.)

Perhaps widening the distribution of those cards would be a good idea? You could even bundle in trial cards with issues of the CoH Comicbook.

...In fact, if you could spring for it, free issues of the comic book bundled with trial codes would be a good marketing tool. Get people interested in the world, then offer them a pass to the game!
  4. Just got an update on TweetDeck from the OCR!

Issue 17 Open Beta has started! Join in the testing fun and see what the upcoming free content update is all about! http://bit.ly/d1d3xf

    BRB Rollin' a Demon summoner!
  5. OH!

I forgot about the Anniversary! *forehead slap*

...I wonder if i17 will come out around then?
    • It's near the end of the month. (Still technically April!)
    • Assuming Open Beta opens soon, they'd have at least a week of public testing.
    • The 27th is a Tuesday. ...Which is close enough.
    • ...I just really want Demon Summoning. Is that too much to ask?! D:
  6. ...So is Thread Necromancy a new mastermind set?
  7. The main thing I like about City of Heroes is that I can play it casually. There's always an element of danger, but I'm never forced to team.

When I do team, it's typically with friends, and there's typically witty in character banter involved.

However... I can honestly say that I vastly prefer Redside to Blueside. Not because I like being evil (All of my red side toons are Chaotic Neutral through Neutral Good), but because I'm just not fond of early Blueside content.

My least favorite experience I've ever had in this game was my first time on the Cavern of Transcendence Trial. I'm on a level 26 Dark Miasma/Dual Pistol Defender, Exempted down. The rest of the team was...
    • A Martial Arts Scrapper
    • A Spines Scrapper
    • A Sonic Defender
    • 4 Blasters

The team had "Blastoise". That was kind of our first problem...

But that wasn't even the main problem. Oh no. The main problem was that Simulclick.

I can deal with 2 Man Simulclicks. Or even 3 Man Simulclicks.

    But an eight man simulclick!?

I SAY VARIOUS RUDE WORDS IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION, EMMETT! A Trial should not be made unwinnable because one person disconnects! That is a [Deleted] stupid design choice!

...I never want to touch that trial again. I never even want to touch the Hollows again.

My experience was just that bad.

For example, have a buyable/craftable power that summons an Ouroboros-like Portal. People clicking on that specific portal are sent to an instance of The Hive or The Abyss (depending on faction), and the portal persists for, say, one hour.

Then, when organizing the raid, you tell the raiders you want in the zone "enter through the Hamidon portal in Boomtown, near the sewer entrance". Only people who know the location of the entrance can actually go into that raid, which prevents Hami leechers from finding the zone.

We have the tech to create zones on-demand to be accessed through portals -- look at the Winter event.
Actually, the Winter Event wasn't instanced.

It was possible to enter the Winter Lord's Realm, only to find that a team from another zone (or another --side--) had already taken a big chunk from the Winter Lord's health. There were several instances, but it was pretty much just a public zone with limited access.

It's called a rotating bind, and it's commonly tied to a specific power.

  11. A Brute can and frequently does tank. (Indeed, you see Brute tanks more often than Masterminds, the other main Red AT capable of tanking. VEATs can tank too, if you build them for it).

But Brute strategy in general revolves around Fury. The more people attacking you, the more damage you do. People who take taunt have one of two reasons for doing so.
    • They want to tank.
    • To gather Fury-building aggro.

But it is by no means required. Personally, I forgo taunt. I prefer things like Hasten or Tough.

    The Road to 50

    Claws/WP.

Great for End, AOE at level 6, Fast Attacks.

In fact, anything WP is awesome. My first ever Brute was SS/WP, and I'm running a WM/WP toon right now that is doing great.

"Here's a way to make the best tanker and deffender.People want deffenders on their team to heal them and attack from a distance, deffenders are not meant for solo play at all. Make a deffender with empathy and phycic powers, it'll do decent damage with the phycic powers and will heal your allys very efficiently. Now for the tanker. Tankers are meant for taking the damage and distracting the enimy from attcking the more frail heroes. When starting of get an attack power at level 2 and 4 and then get deffensive powers from there on.It will make your tanker virtually invincible, good for solo play and a must have for any team."
...There are so many things wrong with that paragraph.

    So many things... *twitch*
  14. Okay okay. I GET IT!

I'm not trying to unbalance the game. I get the point. It's a bad idea.

Fine. Alternate suggestion. Retool the ability to pick veteran rewards just to costume pieces. Leave everything else as-is. That way new players don't have to wait for boxing gloves or something, and vets have something more than respecs and icon tokens to look foreward to. As the system is currently, devs can't introduce new vet costume pieces without upsetting players who just recently purchased the game. Tweaking the costume rewards would help that without "ruining" the system. That was what I was trying to adress. Finding a way to reward 78 month vets without upsetting the 24 monthers.

    Is -that- better? D:
  15. I realize it's on a three month basis.

That's why a normal reward costs three tokens.

...And yeah, I figured that's how the thread would go...
  16. ...Okay.

    So, I read your feedback.

...And the parade of /unsigned, and the bold caps.

And I get it. The idea of Veteran Tokens is horrible and unbalanced.

    So let my try again...

The problem that I perceive with the veteran reward system specifically applies to costume parts. Powers and the like are fine as is. My original idea was far too broad.

The issue I see is this: the way the system stands, the devs cannot introduce new Vet Costume Parts. If they did, new players would have to wait years to get them. So as a result, long term vets are resigned to things like the latest vet rewards.

So, instead of using tokens, I'm going with what several people in this thread have said. Why not apply a system like this solely to costume pieces.

In comparison to this threads original, ill-conceived idea, it seems a bit more balanced. The devs can freely create new costume pieces for vets if they wanted too. Players who desire a specific vet costume piece can pick it up next time the "Costume Set" award comes up. Everyone still has things to look forward too. The "Cherry picking" syndrome is still in effect, but it's diminished.

...Is that a better idea? D:
  17. Man... this sucks...

Why couldn't they have just capped the maximum number of allies in a mission instead?

    Demon MM

Detective Morty, who is also my DP toon.

    Binds Demons... FOR JUSTICE!
  19. Plus... I mean...

Some of those power choices? Ehhhh...

Power Pools are meant to fill holes... giving a Tanker an extra Taunt power is just... Meh.

And TP Foe for a Stalker? ...That would cripple Assassin's strike if you actually used it.
  20. Well... He would do well to wait for GR: Complete Edition.

But if he'd really like to play RIGHT NOW there's nothing wrong with that either.
  21. I think it's to test the new predownloading system.

I'm sure a large portion of us (even those not in the beta, like myself ;_ downloaded the test server patch and marveled at the sheer size. They've never had a patch this big. The last time they had something of comparable size was... well... City of Villains, I guess.

With a HUGE patch, an entire expansion coming up, they need a system like this to ease strain on the download servers.
  22. My Dark Defender and Corruptor (And coming soon, MASTERMIND!) are "Healers".

...In the sense that they know Twilight Grasp and can keep the team topped off.

In an actual play style sense, they (Well... "He", because it's only one character rerolled thrice) are debuffers. I know this. My job is not to repair damage. It's to toss Tar Patch, Howling Twilight, fearsome stare and Darkest night at a crowd of enemies, and then riddle them with toxic bullets so that they hit like blind, drunken kittens. Add a garnish of Twilight Grasp and a Fluffy (Or better yet, a few more Corrs and Defenders) and you've got your party needs covered.

...Of course, if someone asks "Hey, we need a healer", I'll be like "Sure". It's easier just to come along and do your job than to argue semantics. The only issue really is if someone faceplants and Howling Twilight is on recharge. (My Philosophy is that if it's up, and you're dead, I'll try to use it near you. ...But there's a good chance it's not going to be up because I used it as a debuff)

...It's also why I think why DM for MM's is so popular. It's not limited to just helping your pets. Your heal aura is smaller, but you're still mezzing the hell out of enemies. (I wonder if the Hellfire Whip Debuffs are any good? Mmmm... Debuffs...)
  23. Double Post because editing crashes the forums...

Picture if you will, an iPad, framing a map of Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, or Praetoria. On the top of a sidebar lies a search pad. You can switch regions by swiping. By using a plugin like Glycerine, the game will be able to load up a map of the relevant zone, marking contacts, badges, and regions. A sidebar lets you see a list of enemy groups, contacts, stores, and badges.

You could look up a complete list of enemies that appear in the zone (and in paper/radio missions), their powers, what badges they're good for, etc.

You could look up contacts. Events...

Basically, it's the Hitchiker's Guide to city of.
  24. ...Pocket Mids. Yes.

Though... my Dream app would have to be a COH Companion.

Basically a Super Streamlined version of Paragon Wiki, with a dash of Vidiot Maps thrown in for good measure.

Badge Maps, Enemies by Zone (and Zones by -Enemy group-. A feature Paragon Wiki really needs).

Basically, everything ParagonWiki offers, but streamlined so that you can tap through it quickly. It'd be nice to have a full map of the zone you were in on the side too. If HeroStats could track your current zone, and display the relevant map on the iPad, that would be -The Sex-.

I'm just saying that you shouldn't go around shouting "OMG OPEN BETA" before actually checking that it's actually open!

It's not fair to the rest of us!

I'm sorry I called you a liar, but you really should think before you make a claim like that!
