Just tried it with my DB/Fire scrapper, sweep worked just fine there. Should note it's slotted solely with SOs at the moment.

Quote:This does, IIRC, also hold true for the Giant Monster construction. Be nearby when it finally goes down, get the badge. The tentacles are not tracked for badge credit. It's 10% of the head's total damage received.
I have never known Lusca to be an "in the area" badge because I had never even heard of that mechanic until it was used for the Lord Nemesis GM.
If it had been used for Lusca then it would also be used for the Deadly Apocalypse banners and GM, but I know it did not work for that last Halloween. -
Quote:Ok, the easy answer to that is. If is it being based that 'x times tougher' = x times the survivability. There has to be more to that than the simple CoH buzzword of mitigation.
I am not seeing this 6-10 times the death rate for blasters.
Not for myself, or for people I normally team with. Just last night, I was on a team with a relatively new player, that was being a blaster. After running many +4/x8 missions, I think this player may have died 3 times. And, I am talking about someone that has played 3 months max, that I had never teamed with before.
I still think that this 'broken' word is being exaggerated.
Or there are some unrealistic expectations of what blasters should be.
If you are expecting a blaster to solo a +4/x8 map. Be able to stand there, in a group, go get a sammich, come back still living. Perhaps the blaster AT is not for you. Yes, I realize that was probably an exaggeration on my own part.
Seconding all this.
Look, there are some things that can be tweaked - snipes for all ATs that have them, adjusting nukes (I'd still prefer seeing Judgement adjusted downward in non-Incarnate content.)
But as far as what I can do with a "problem" like a blaster?
I can play it, enjoy it, and not give a tinker's damn about what any other AT or player is doing. I'm not trying to "beat" them, after all. It's not a competition. -
Quote:You're not the only one. Really, I end up feeling like people have lost focus on good, basic builds in the interest of set-bonus-this, softcap-that, perma-blah blah blah.Awesome to see that you are (still/back) in the game, Plasma. I thought I'd seen random posts by you, for a while.
As I've said before in this thread, my reasons for invoking your name are because your guide is so well written and, for a Free player, a Kheldian who is still Growing, or anyone else who is NOT using IOs (yet), your guide is still mostly valid. It's actually a bit of a peeve of mine, that most guides don't even bother with SOs anymore. It seems as if the presumption is that the reader is already level 50 and has a billion inf to spend, before they head off to their next iTrial.
Which, you know, I don't (really) hold against the people who want to do it, if that's their thing. It just saddens me to hear some people say they *can't* play without those bonuses - or that they can't do things (Mender Ramiel's arc) on their IO'd out characters that I'm waltzing through on SOs - I'm under no illusions of being some sort of überplayer, so I can't help but just shake my head at that and think they're too busy playing their IOs instead of their characters.
Quote:Hmm, so this really is the place to take just those sorts of situational powers. Which ones do you find most useful?
Does anyone have feedback for how to continue this build with SOs?
Be Well!
Fireheart- since you won't be perma-ing, Hasten can be situational. Stick that in there. Or Stealth. Qfly doesn't really need slotting, neither does Quantum Acceleration. Grab a prerequisite you don't need to slot up - boxing/kick. (You *can* but you can also ignore them if you choose.) Grab an alternate travel power - they don't need slotting, after all. There are a lot of options.

Quote:Need to find another quote by Zwillinger that really sounds like PVP, though he brings it up from time to time, is pretty much stuck where it is. It's less "when they have time to try it" and more "it's just an ongoing series of adjustments, tweaks and balances once we start for very little payback."Unfortunately, Castle took another job offer, so PVP hasn't changed a whole lot since. The existing development team is understandably wary of broaching the subject again, though Posi has said on record a few times that they have some ideas they'd like to try when they've got room in the development schedule, but it is unlikely that they'll be anywhere near as sweeping as those changes made in i13.

I don't get my panties wound up over people calling characters "toons." Call them Frank if you want.
That said, most fun... yeah, very subjective. In no particular order:
1. My Plant/Thorn dom. Just a *lot* of fun. Plus, she was chewing through Scrapyard's mob (not the big guy himself, of course) at 25-26.
2. Thugs/Poison Mastermind. Perhaps a bit biased here, since before this I was trying a Bots/FF MM and ready to give up on the AT since I was bored stiff basically playing spectator. Recent changes have only made it better.
3. Peacebringer. I have two at 50, one human, one triform. I have others scattered throughout other levels. Only reason I don't play them more is... I have two at 50.
4. Stalkers. Just... as a whole. I can't pick a specific power set combo (though I'm somewhat claws heavy.) I enjoyed them before, but again - recent changes have only made them more fun (and less strange to see other stalkers staying around and scrapping like I do.)
5. /dark Corruptors. Fire/dark. Ice/dark. Just something with /dark and AOEs to scourgescourgescourge with. Just because seeing that much scourging brings a smile to my face. -
Those should be taking the screenshot. You won't notice anything on screen.
This should probably be in the technical areas, as opposed to here, really, as this sounds like a system issue.
Assuming you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7, these may be ending up somewhere - by default, the screenshots go to <coh install directory>/screenshot, so c:\program files(x86)\City of Heroes\Screenshots. However, IIRC they get redirected...
Go to start, bring up the search files/folders (right above the start button,) and just search on screenshot*.jpg - the COH naming format is screenshot_yearmonthday-hour-minute-second.jpg (for instance, my most recent one is screenshot_120604-02-50-15.jpg, taken at 2:50 on June 4.)
Also, if you're trying to take screenshots while in the costume editor or character select screen, it won't work (and IIRC the clipboard - where you'd paste from - will just get a big black field there.) You'll need the snipping tool there. -
Errrrr....

Why is anyone guessing at price? -

Quote:So, if you fight against removal of colors, are you taking a lemonade stand?Or mock them for harnessing the power of lemonade. As lame superpowers go, that's a big one.
After all, protest as they might, they can't prove they're not drenching foes in cool, refreshing lemonade. It's just your word versus theirs.

Since Ye Olde Collection was getting a bit image heavy, I figured - New art, new year, new thread.
And we start it off with a new 50, from (to me) a new artist - recommended in the last thread by BrandX, Avionetca. Two pieces coming from her. This is of an *old* Dark/Electric Defender who took a detour over to Guardian to play with the Legion for a bit, Duskvolt.
Looked a little odd, just since I'm used to aiming for a few other things - but it's also exactly what I expected with her other previews of *this* style. (The other piece - which I don't have yet - is in a different style of hers.)
Also, something I had considered before but never did do - bit of an overview of working with these people. Bit of an artist review when I try someone new.
So how was the experience?
Pros:
- Low cost. (It's true. Real bargain for what she does.)
- Fairly fast.
- Distinct styles to choose from.
- No preview. (Which is about true for most of who I use, I'm listing it as a "con" because some may see it as a downside.)
- No queue on her DA page - can't see how busy she is. (Which is more personal preference, and she explains it on her page.)
I'd definitely go to her again.
All artwork: Here on Photobucket be it all, yarrr. A few NSFW (not many.) You've been warned.

... though I almost hate to (it'd break one of the few remaining level pacts,) I may just need to remake Typhon's Herald. Warm things up a bit - water instead of ice. (Water/Storm Corruptor incoming.)

Let me give you a *slightly* less pessimistic answer - though in honesty it can only be 'slightly" less.
There is still a PVP community in the game. You have to look for them a bit - even if you can't post there, take a look in the PVP and in the specific server subsections of the game. You don't say what server you've been playing on, so I can't suggest specific people (or having specific people try to get in touch with you.)
What you'll mostly find is arena PVP, or arranged zone PVP, usually in Recluse's Victory if anywhere.
Base raids are essentially dead and gone. They're not active now, and they made changes to base editing which allowed the base builders to do many things which used to be "illegal" because they blocked paths and the like. (For instance, on one or two of my bases, there's no way you could get to my generator - slightly vital if you wanted to destroy it and take down defenses.) As twitchy as the base editor is - the person who created it is long gone and apparently didn't document the code well, or at all - they're VERY cautious about making any changes. So base raiding is gone, yeah.
PVP missions... have been asked for. But the rules about how characters and powers act in PVP are vastly different than they are in PVE (the issue (13) of PVP Doom you keep seeing referred to.) It was... *unpleasant* around here to say the least at that time. Before, the zones, even on a fairly quiet server like Pinnacle or Victory (my main "homes") could really get jumping. Siren's Call was a lot of fun, there would be multiple teams on both sides going after reach other, you could go in unless it was, say, 3 AM on Wednesday, and expect to run into a fight at some point.
After Issue 13, that pretty much vanished. A few people stuck around, but most either transferred to Freedom to consolidate the community, or just left. Now, it's somewhat spotty - I was actually surprised, last night, to see someone on Triumph calling people to Atlas for some casual PVP. If I hadn't been in the middle of a task force, I probably would have gone over to see what was up. It would have been the first time I'd actually PVPed in... well, at least six months, in honesty probably over a year. (I go into the zones with some regularity just for the temp powers, but rarely see anyone else there... and when I do, they rarely want to actually give PVP a try.)
As for long term... you'd be surprised how replayable the game is. It *does* play differently with different ATs - or even different powersets within the same AT. If it weren't, I wouldn't have been here since issue 3 (with only a small break at the turn of this year.) I'm one of the people Ad Astra mentions with 5-6 times as many characters... I've got - think I'm at 309-310 now. (Just because the name "It's Demon Time" was open - I thought that one would be fairly obvious and gone, but found it amusing.) -
Quote:The Batallion were mentioned by name long, long before then. At one point, it was suggested that we'd *need* IOs to be able to deal with them.Well, that's sort of my point. The Battallion themselves weren't mentioned until, like, what, i21?
The Rikti have fought them, as well.
Quote:Mot, on the other hand, kind of works, because it's been known that there are much bigger, much meaner nasties behind all the tiki idols the Banished Pantheon carry around. That's really the way to do a "bigger threat" villain, I think. Have them working behind the scenes, but definitely present. That's why the Promehenator and Doc work. We've had touches of rivalry going on considerably longer, and they're presences we've come to know, making them work better as villains. -
It really depends on what you want. The -res from Sonic Siphon will help somewhat with the damage, and if you do a dual build, you can fill in the gaps (in either AT) for powers you won't use solo with things you'll find useful - leadership, hasten, etc.
Honestly, in this situation, I'd just pare it down to "Do you want your buffs earlier or your attacks earlier?" Such as 12 vs 20 for Sonic Dispersion, or 26 vs 35 for clarity (still comes WAY too late in the set either way, IMHO.) -

Somehow "Help wanted, 6 positions open for female virgins, short term, early retirement, extra bonus for bringing your own candles, great dental plan" still doesn't go over well.

Quote:Do you choose content because it is: fast xp, team vs solo, thematic, fun, needed to unlock something, needed to get a badge/accolade, merits, ???
Yes to most of that.
I don't have one path through, or one reason. Admittedly I'm more likely to skip Atlas Park content if I can - already fairly burned out on it, so I'll DFB a bit, or street sweep to the Hollows or KR.
Other than that, I'll pick and choose groups with some characters that they'd fight instead of others. Or aim for specific arcs. I don't generally care about badges or accolades at this point. -

Quote:Or, for that matter, use F1-F5. No mouse issue at all.Oh stop with the histrionics, already. There's a little button on the right hand side of the inspiration window's "grab-bar." Click it - and in so doing detach the inspiration window from the top of your powers tray - and move it somewhere where the offending tray won't interfere with your pointer. I put mine center-bottom, to the left of the power tray.
Admittedly, my Kheld keybinds put the powers on 1-4 (or 5) on the bar, so it's just nudging my finger up a tiny bit to hit the function keys, but still.

Me, I'm against this feature *for my use* *for my Kheldian form powers.* I look forward to not having to dig through the list for batteries, acids, grenades, etc. -
Community, mostly.
Events tend to be spread across servers. When Exalted (the VIP) server was new, there was a bit more concentration there, but with things like the Nemesis invasion, they server hop.
RP server - All servers have RP to some extent. Best to check down in the server forums, even if you can't post there yet. Virtue is generally considered "the RP server," but it's not enforced. Union, I believe, was the European RP server. Check pocket D.
PVP... another "there are events here and there." I'd say if you want PVP, go to Freedom, just from the population. On the other hand, Pinnacle and Victory (IIRC) both have some PVP activity - just not in the zones, typically. Takes some looking to find. -
Alex has an on again off again thread w/art (like his sketches before) in ... think it's this section - specifically for the Free/Premiums not being able to post elsewhere.

Quote:And yet, if it's the third or fourth attempt... why are there Tuatha still around instead of pulled back out of the way so they aren't adding to the problem? Especially what looks like a Bres, which can drop quicksand which *will* lower both speed and, more importantly here, defense?Well, thank you recognising my experience and then promptly bloody ignoring it, Bill. Christ, do you realise how condescending you sound at times?
This wasn't 'Oh well, first run with bad luck, we'll deal with it this time'. And I say we, because this was on a team. This was after about the third or fourth team-wipe, DESPITE tactics and aiming for the Cyst and all the other, common sense stuff.
This doesn't *look* like the very entrance of those caves - pull, move, let the Nictus filter back or die off as you deal with the Tuatha.
I'd ask what the rest of the team makeup was, but it has been a few issues going by the UI, so it'd be a fairly pointless question.
You say you used tactics, etc, but what I'm seeing in here looks (stressing looks, here, as I obviously wasn't there) like repeated "bum rush it" attacks, to be frank. If this is after repeated attempts, why do I see (for instance) two nicely stacked awakens? Why weren't those dumped when you went to the hospital for some lucks? The blues and greens I can see, of course.
It's stuff like that that makes me say you saw the cyst and just short circuited to "we're all going to die" instead of actually stopping and saying "this is what we need to do." Call that condescending if you want (though it isn't,) but I can only go by the proof you've given me - both in the screenshot and the absolute obsession you seem to have with, essentially, "these are cheating/unbeatable" - given this and previous converastions.
Basically, you're considering yourself beaten before you even face them until you shake that. I'm trying to give you things to consider here to get around it so they're not such a big obstacle to you.
