Due out in stores sometime later this year, the set – according to Amazon – will be a 10-disc set that will include Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D cuts of Whedon’s blockbuster, as well as discs for the five Marvel movies that led up to ‘The Avengers.’ Here are the specifics, from what the site knows so far:

• Marvel’s The Avengers (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Captain America: The First Avenger (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Thor (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Iron Man 2 (Blu-ray)
• The Incredible Hulk (Blu-ray)
• Iron Man (Blu-ray)
• Bonus Disc – “The Phase One Archives” (Blu-ray)
• Collectible packaging with exclusive memorabilia from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Here’s what we don’t know about the set, though: The release date, and the retail price. Both are pretty important, as we’re assuming most who are interested in buying an ‘Avengers’ Blu-ray probably own the two ‘Iron Man’ movies, ‘Captain America,’ ‘Thor’ and ‘Hulk.’ But for a first-timers looking to amp up their collection, this set could be ideal.

Avengers of course will be available on DVD and BluRay on its own.

I believe I will get the box set.

Triple digits at least. I'd venture a guess as to probably around $150.

I would have thought so too. That is until I found the Underworld 4 pack on BluRay for only $40 at my local Walmart.

So....I would expect the whole thing to be just under $100.

Chances I will buy that (or that my wife would let me; either way)? Approaching zero.

I will, however, get Avengers on Blu Ray as soon as it comes out. Still need to get Thor as well, though I'm dragging my feet a little since it's already on Netflix.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Currently, I own the 5 Avengers related movies on DVD.

Although the 'boxset' is cool, I have no intention of buying it. Mainly because they will release the 'ultimate' Avengers collection in 2-3 years when the next set of Avengers films come out and this 10 disc box set will seem 'outdated'. Secondly, the BluRay gimmick is just another one of the bandwagons I refuse to hop on, sort of like 3D.

I will, however, add Avengers (on DVD) to my collection when it comes out, followed by Iron Man 3 and so on.

I don't know if I'd buy it simply because I have no use for 3D discs. That and I'd wait for confirmation about a director's cut or extended edition of avengers given the rumors of stuff that was cut that Whedon wants / would like to put back in.

I suspect the BluRay will contain all the cutscenes as viewable bonuses from the main menu while the standard DVD will only contain some of the cutscenes.

As to an extended director cut.......Whedon indicated at least 30 minutes was cut and the movie is over 2 hours long now. Perhaps the option to view the extended movie or theatrical?
