Wonderful. My arc has a mission where you have to destroy generators that are powering a force field. I guess the force field is now going to have to be powered by crates, or maybe a clipboard or something else sensible.

If it were me, I'd rollback AE entirely until I could make sure it didn't have any exploits available, but I've never been strictly business-oriented.
[/ QUOTE ]
A few people using the MA are going to wind up overlooking exploits. Thousands of people who are obsessed with finding the maximum reward/minimum effort formula are going to find every one of those exploits and put them to use.
The best way to find exploits is to put the program into the hands of those who will diligently search for and gleefully use them. -
Talking about the zone that is no longer able to be gotten to. If you were in that zone however when the changeover happened then it's possible to still be in it.

He's actually still in the RCS so PI version of him must be a clone.

Arc# 250142 - Lockdown
Should be easily completable in an hour since a lot of content can be skipped, or rather avoided. The final mission actually includes 4 different EBs but I don't believe any of them are overpowered.
At this point however I actually have absolutely zero clue how difficult it is in actuality since only one person has played it and they gave it 5 stars. -
I would tell you what it is... only I've got almost a month left till I get it.
-
Well you haven't exactly provided much information. But this is almost always due to not having enough ram. Usually less than one gig or else 1 gig with settings high and multiple programs running in the background.
-

Making the low level missions less crappy would help, too.

They are certainly better than some other games.
Go get me 10 rat tails.
Ok, now go get me 10 bear skins.
Ok now go get me 10 rat tails. Yeah yeah I know but I already used up the others.
Ok, now travel across the continent to talk to this person. Incidentally they are going to ask you for 10 rat tails and then send you back here.
disclaimer: Rat tails may not be an exact item desired in said other games. I am merely attempting to recreate the feeling I got when I played them for a short period before quitting out of mind numbing boredom. -
Ok, I'll make it simple.
Look at your computer desktop. There should be a shortcut there that says City of Heroes.
Right click on the shortcut. Then click on Properties. In the Target window it should currently say
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"
Change that to this.
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -port 13094
Then click on OK.
Exit the updater. It should save the progress you have made so far. Then click on the shortcut to start the updater again. Your download speed should now be much higher. -
Texas is right about the extra stuff running. Anything from Symantec is a memory hog. And by memory hog I actually mean rabid memory wolverine which would rather die than release even one byte to another process. You would be better off dumping that and getting AVG or Avira for your antivirus and spyware needs. They are both free and both better at detection.
Plus 1 gig of memory really is a limiting factor. If you are confident about switching out parts in your system then it's relatively easy to upgrade the ram in the 1520. 1 of the slots is under a panel on the bottom of the laptop, the other is under the keyboard.
You can still play with the amount of ram you have and with the integrated video chip. However don't expect anything amazing. You will have to play with your video settings at minimum most likely and your loading time between zones and into missions will be long.
If you do get the game working then remember the following. Whenever you are going to zone, or enter a mission, or access the auction house then just before you click to enter type the following /unloadgfx
That command will delete all the stored zone graphics currently held in your ram and will reload only the things within your visual range. -
No torrent but you can speed up your download by altering the shortcut to the updater. Change your desktop shortcut by adding the following to the end of it.
-port 13094
put that at the end of the target, outside the parenthesis and with a space between the parenthesis and the -port. -
I've got one that's great.
It starts with an earthquake.
Birds and Snakes.
An aeroplane. -
Try rolling the video driver back one or two versions. As panthera said there are problems with the latest driver and some systems.
-
The requirements aren't even close to similar. WoW is the most popular MMO for several reasons. But the main reason is that it can be played on almost any system. Even laptops that have low ram and a poor graphics solution built into the motherboard rather than having a dedicated video processor can play WoW. CoH pushes even good gaming systems to their limits if you max out the settings.
If you go Here and download and run CoH Helper then we can look at your specs and tell you what you might need to do or if playing at all on that system is even possible. Once you have the results you can either post them in this thread or start a new one in the Tech issues section. The Tech section will give you more of a response since some of those who are the best at this sort of diagnosis never venture outside that area. -

thanks very much guys, i will defintatly roll a new char and relearn the gameit is just SO HARD solo without ae, like i tried to do missions at the begining and i was struggling like crazy!
[/ QUOTE ]
It is hard solo for some archetypes if you aren't familiar with how the game works. Honestly for your new character I would suggest that you try a broadsword/regeneration scrapper. This is pretty much the easiest and most durable hero type at low levels. It's also quite powerful at high levels but it will allow you to solo without much of a problem even if you do make mistakes.
If it turns out that you don't like playing that particular character then the only thing you've lost is a few hours of time and you will have gained experience in the use of inspirations and enhancements.
Also just mention what server you are on and I'm sure one of us will be glad to jump in and team with you in order to show you the ropes. -
Are you having a problem getting into the game? When you enter data into the name and password field do you get an error even though you know that you used the correct password? This is a very familiar problem that pops up here at least a couple times a month with new accounts.
Odds are that you are using the wrong version of the game. There are two versions. The European version and the North American version.
The name of the executable files in the EU version are cohupdater.eu.exe and cityofheroes.exe. In the NA version they are cohupdater.exe and cityofheroes.exe.
Since you are posting in the NA forums that means you have an NA account so you probably have the EU versions. If you do have the EU versions then here is the solution.
Delete the above two files from your city of heroes directory and also delete the coh.checksum file. Then go Here and download the cohupdater.exe file. Do not move the file into the city of heroes directory. Run it from your desktop. When it asks where to install the game, point it at the city of heroes directory you already have.
It will download and install a copy of cohupdater and cityofheroes and any updates you don't have (probably none of those) and then verify everything. This will be much quicker than downloading everything all over again. When the game has finished installing you can delete the copy of cohupdater.exe that is on your desktop. -

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears then does it make a sound?
If you can't see the persons tells, or broadcast, or any other channel message then what does it matter that they know you are online? Unless they track you down and jump up and down in front of you while using various emotes to pantomime what they want to say. -

Hmmm. Why was this done? I have in an arc one of those objects that does damage and about mag 1000 knockback when destroyed. Won't kill the mission if it doesn't do the damage or the KB, but I'm still curious as to the Why of the change.
[/ QUOTE ]
The barrels of dynamite were being used for farming purposes. Removing other effects that hurt the player, I have no idea. Maybe it's for the sake of melee users, in case someone fills an entire mission with exploding things.
[/ QUOTE ]
That seriously sucks. I had a mission in the orange juicer map (you know the one. Typically BP, pointy hill with temple in the middle surrounded by deep valley. Like an orange juicer) The only thing in the mission was generators. By blowing up generators that were close enough to the edge you could blow yourself from the outer rim all the way to the middle. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, that is how you do it. You can put them in the same group. Unfortunately when you go to edit groups, it only shows the display name, not the save name.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, that would explain why there was only the changed character when I went to check it in the edit groups function. Ok then, I should be able to do this fairly easily. Thanks folks. -
I've created an arc and one person mentioned that they didn't like the thought of facing multiple EBs. So I thought as an experiment I would create three versions of my arc. One as it is now including EBs. One as the lite version with opponent power levels lowered one step and EBs turned into bosses. And one increased in difficulty with EBs changed to AVs.
I can save a copy of the arc under a different name, that works just fine and I can edit either Lockdown (the original arc) or Lockdown Lite (the first modification of the arc). But when I change an npc in the second arc, even if I give that npc a different path name (in this case Spring Heels Minion changed to SH Minion Lite) It alters the ordinary version as well.
So what I need to know is this. Is there a simple way to copy a npc under a different name and not have the edits on one affect the edits on another?
And just incidentally if you want to see what the arc is about. It's arc# 250142 Lockdown. A silver age type arc intended for teams or SGs. -

This is a story driven arc that is designed for teams and designed to be tough.
[/ QUOTE ]
This here's probably why. Not sure about others, but the 'multiple elite bosses' element is what turned me off to your arc.
[/ QUOTE ]
I suppose I'm not surprised that many other people don't think the way I do. The reason I absolutely love the Faultline arcs is not just because they are well written but because most of them feature an EB (or AV depending on your setting). Same with all the Praetorian missions. To me it's extremely anticlimactic when you battle your way through a mission where most opponents are fairly tough, and then you face the final boss who turns out to be the same level of difficulty as all the lieutenants you've faced.
Different strokes etc...
Maybe I'll unpublish my other missions and duplicate the arc with an easy mode (drop the villains in difficulty) and Hard mode (boost them 1 level). Might actually be interesting to try that. It would also give me a comparison value as to how much difficulty the majority of players like. -
Still only one play through and one critique? Surely somebody else must be interested in a traditional superhero type story.

Basti'nade: You beat on somebody with a stick. Since this is already part of a tanker set we will discount it.
Fanfaro'nade: You attempt to intimidate your opponent by bragging about your great skill and legendary successes.
Harlequi'nade: You join the Carnies.
Lemo'nade: You open up a yellow inspiration stand.
Mari'nade: You douse your opponent with a savory mixture of spices in a liquid base. Then blast them with fire.
Prome'nade: You surprise your opponents by casually strolling around.
Sere'nade: You sing to your opponent songs of love in an attempt to win their heart.
