According to the most recent UStream, Posi said wait for PAX for more info on Backpacks, so I'd say they're going to be there in some capacity.
...
Or Posi is off his medication. Which is unlikely. -
Yes in VK's summary that remark was attributed to Positron.
-
This is the kind of thing I keep reading our forums for. Well said Arcana.

CoH updater is no longer supported and will not work. You need to get the NCSoft Launcher.

I'd love to hear your definition of what is then, because this sure sounds like it to me.
Blasters are allowed as much damage as they have because by definition, they're cutting loose and blasting, not "dodging" attacks.
Everything else (including your example) does less damage in order to get that added protection.
I don't think most people would be willing to give up damage in order to get this additional defense you're proposing. -
Since I did it on my 50 just a couple days ago, it damn well better be there or I got a batch of the bad Crack again.
I confirm Zombie Man's statement. -
Quote:My answer would be: You won't.My question is this: If I choose to slot level 30 IO sets, how much will I miss that accuracy %, damage %, etc. From 25 to 50 is 21.8% to 26.5% (on a dual purpose IO, like acc/hold)
I would imagine that this might be negligible, but then again, it might not be.
From what I understand, a little less than 5% can be a big number sometimes.
Take another look at those Purple sets you can slot. For example, lets just slot the Stun set, the Hold set, and the Immobilize set.
thats 12% bonus recovery
45% Global Accuracy
30% Global Recharge
1 of those will cover any increased Endurance costs, the other more than compensates for any missing Accuracy, and the last will be giving you more recharge at all levels. You even have some leeway with those numbers so that you can focus more on damage and procs to compensate for the one area you may lose some ground, damage.
My Dominator with some purple sets, and several lower level enhancers (Basilisk's Gaze caps at lvl 30, but with the 7.5% rech bonus it's still the best non purple Hold set in the game) can still hold onto Permadom while exemped into the 30s (before anything like AM or speed boost), or solo +4x8 at 50+1. -
Quote:Then they failed at it, because on the grand scale of things in the CoH universe that's not very evil at all. Dr Vahz comes close to poisoning the city's water supply and making everyone zombies, and he's a low level contact. The best I can hope for as a high level villain is to make some kids' lives hell until the next longbow submarine makes it in with more donations from Paragon. Or play babysitter to a mad scientist who is lucky if he remembers what socks are for. Or get sucked into watching Television for 12 hours a day. Or go back to Mercy Island to deal with those damned snakes once and for all because the entire Arachnos military can't seem to manage it.Maybe they just wanted to show how vile Villains are? Evil is never cool or fun.
Don't get me wrong, those stories each are fun in their own way. But if we're looking at things on an absolute scale of evil acts, there's some real problems. -
I think Arcana is spot on for the most part. I'd be willing to sit down and have a discussion about whether Red Side really is more difficult and whether more difficult means too difficult, but I don't think that's the main point or flaw of redside.
I'm an ardent redside supporter, but even I feel that the content isn't as much about being evil as it is being the lesser of two evils. You're hardly ever making bad things happen and defeating good people for your own advancement, you're beating out people lower on the ladder of depravity than you for fun and profit. It's subtle but pervasive. The main time I feel villainous is on Mayhem missions, and even then it's a transient feeling because there are no lasting effects from the minor chaos I cause.
I love the Rogue Isles and would spend most of my time there if there were more things to do. Maybe between now and Freedom I will take a stab at updating an arc I made, and make a couple others and see if I can pin down my own take on how to feel evil and glory in it. -
As far as I know, clicking on a name in the search window would show the Invite to SG option.
My default setting for all new characters is to block SG invites. I recommend doing that yourself, then simply unblocking if there's an SG you wish to join. -
Like Snowy said, they never were. What you got once you met the participation minimum was random. Despite all the claims, there really was no way to get better drops by doing different things or bringing characters with better AoE or whatever the theory of the week was.

Quote:As you progress in the game you will find this less and less important. Only rarely is there an optimal kill order, and eventually targeting becomes targets of opportunity since in the mass of foes and the mass of Area Effect powers, things die too quickly to do anything but target the biggest things and let everything else die by attrition.Target through a target. I know how to target directly. I like to target the tank and assist them. A good tank, imo, targets things that are hitting him and not the mezzed, daized, held, etc... and is therefore shifting targets alot. I don't like wasting endurance needlessly. I like saving it for needed actions like healing, holding, mezzing, damaging, etc.

Quote:In the past they've explained that away as peculiar to female Time Lords.Big deal, retcons happen all the time in Dr Who. If you look at the old Who, regeneration was as simple as changing hats. When Lalla Ward became the Doctors (Tom Baker) companion as one of the Romanas she tried on half a dozen bodies before the Doctor accepted the one she liked.

Truth be told, I think you guys are on the edge of a revolutionary amount of options, if you can just get Pool Power Customization worked out. Path Auras are really cool, and with a few tricks I'm nearly certain our artists have in their stable, Players can get a lot of the Travel options they've always been clamoring for.
Here are some examples:
Digging- I've seen the screens of the Seismic Path aura from SDCC. Major props to TR's husband on that. If they made a version of the aura that stopped rendering the character when in motion, it would be damn near good enough for most people. Maybe add some Rocky Crumbles and some transition animations when starting and stopping and jumping, but I think it's there.
Rolling/Bouncing- we have transparent bubbles of all sorts ingame. Path auras that create different nontransparent objects (Giant Red Rubber Ball!) would be a neat way to cheat some of the vehicle limitations.
Like I said, we're on the edge of it. Key thing is being able to turn off the things we don't want, and turn on the things we do. -
Quote:As I said, this doesn't mean anything other than they have some weird system for sending out emails, because nearly every email I get from them comes twice. They can't all be from incompetent office workers trying to get them back, or accidentally hitting the button twice or whatever. The fact that I got a duplicate within minutes suggests that they said to themselves "whoops" and tried to do the typical "I don't know how this email thing works" and tried to call it back. Instead they sent another copy.
I think I can count the number of emails I've gotten 1 of in the last 3 years, on one hand. -
Indeed. I'll probably get Street Justice right away since I have a couple ideas for it. Beam Rifle I have no problems waiting until something strikes me and I have a use for it. This is why the free points are such a boon, I have more patience than a 4 year old.
-
VIPs get 4800 points a year at minimum. That's $60 worth of points, 3 times what you said you're already willing to spend on Boosters.
In every one of these discussions, people keep making the same mistake. They equate not getting it the moment it comes out with not getting it. Whereas, with a bit of patience, and the normal adult ability to prioritize, you can get a steady stream of new things on a monthly or even weekly basis, as opposed to now when we have to wait months between new Issues or Boosters.
People keep claiming they will be annoyed if there are more cool things than their stipend+ the amount they normally spend on boosters can get them. When I see that I say: "But that means they're adding MORE NEW THINGS than they used to!" Keep reminding yourself of that before you get too worked up. Complaining that you're getting too many cool new things sounds really silly. -
Quote:Anyone in closed beta that sees a thread with incorrect assumptions about vague information, or leaks, or anything that needs correction can, should, and often do send a PM to a dev or community person.Additionally, the gag order on players in the Closed Beta isn't helping; the sooner you guys go open beta, the sooner people can stop biting their tongues and the sooner people gain access to the facts for themselves. Just saying.
Then they quite often come in and correct what needs correcting and no one's NDA is broken. The only time there's a significant delay is the weekends.
I wouldn't be shocked to learn that's what happened here.
Even so there are times in past betas where those under the NDA got great enjoyment out of letting people spin off wild cotton candy mountains of fantasy.
No matter what anyone does, every bit of released info is going to be parsed, examined, regurgitated, buried in soft peat, and all manner of distorted as time goes on. There's little or no point in trying to stop the forum from being what it is, a bunch of puppies making a big deal over a limited array of shinies.
People need to remember one simple thing: Convention or not, dev statement or not, the only version of the release with accurate info is the one we download and login to on Live. Nothing else is set in stone and actionable, and any butthurt you get from reacting to nonfinalized information is your own responsibility. Not the devs, not the people under NDA, not the game. -
I too saw the wishlist and thought it meant what the OP did.
It was disappointing (to say the least) to see Zwill post that the other day. They need to reconsider and make it a priority for as soon after i21 as possible. -
The game has put up pay walls to certain areas for years. Then removed them later when most of the initial profit has been made and the work paid for. I don't think you should be shocked to see it happen again at some point. If we're lucky it will happen the way they're doing First Ward; visit and team for free, pay to access content yourself.

Quote:Better than the soon to be defunct Star Wars MMO where 90% of an entire generation of role played characters were orphans whose parents were killed by Imperials or Rebels or Vader or Boba Fett and/or 50% of them were ex-slaves.What's sad is that I conjured up the basic backstory before I knew practically anything about the CoH lore, when I first started playing. And now, I realize that probably 20% of the citizens of Paragon City have a stranger family history.
No, I'm really not kidding. Sitting in the cantina on a sunday night and reading bios was a hobby. -
Quote:Very nearly every email I get from them has a duplicate come in a few minutes- hours later. CoH mails included.Even better: They sent me a duplicate email to the same address. I wonder if the person responsible is using Outlook and tried to recall the email after it was sent.
Thankfully gmail is smart about it and folds identical mails into the same subject thread.
