SG Info Question

One thing I've wondered about for quite a while.

I'll be in a mission, or just standing around with no one in sight, when I'll suddenly get a tell and a random SG invite. They definitely can't see me.

I've seen nothing on the LFG search dialog that indicates SG membership status.

Is there some command or interface that I'm unaware of that lets you list personal info from across zones? If so, is there some way to hide this info?

As far as I know, clicking on a name in the search window would show the Invite to SG option.

My default setting for all new characters is to block SG invites. I recommend doing that yourself, then simply unblocking if there's an SG you wish to join.

Yeah the Search feature allows that. They can find you even if you are inside a mission or an SG base and yes you can hide from it. Just type in /hide and you'll get a pop up window that lets you customize who you hide from.

  1. Hide and block all Invite Options
  2. Hide from Tells (Private Messages)
  3. Hide from Global Chat Channels
  4. Hide from Global Friends
  5. Hide from Server Friends
  6. Hide from Supergroup
  7. Hide from Searches

Rude and lazy jerks use the Search to spam blind invites. Good players use it to form teams by checking to see what flags are set and read any comments you may have posted about your preferences and then send a message to you before an invite.

I'm trying to remember if I was getting them on characters who weren't in SGs before I got them into my own personal ones. I do know a player/their SG on Virtue is well known for sending what would seem like random tells about looking for an SG. Like I said, I just can't recall if those characters I were playing where in a SG at the time. I don't get them normally from ones that are.

No. Unless someone is in range, or on a team/league and anywhere in the same zone, they can not see:
- if you are in an SG.
- your picture, bio, badges, etc.

So, people are probably just spamming invites based on the search window. If you're already in an SG, they get an error message.

Yeah they just go down the list and spam invites hoping someone is stupid enough to accept.

Thanks for the info.

Really irks me when someone gives an invite - I've never met the person, grouped with them or anything. Yet somehow they want me in their SG.

We understand but on the plus side that "style" of recruiting is a damn good warning of which SG's to avoid.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though, the invite only tells you the name of the nimrod inviting character and not the name of the dipstick SG.

To be honest I've been inviting my newly created alts into my personal SG's while they are still in the tutorial for so long I can't remember if you see the SG name or not on the invites.

No, it doesn't.

"<Charactername> has invited you to join a Super Group. Do you accept? y/n" is all you get.

Well, call me stupid, because on occasion I've accepted random SG invites.

If I'm playing an alt on a server where neither I nor my friends have formed a supergroup yet, I will usually accept the first SG invite that gets thrown my way. This is in the hopes that I will luck into gaining access to a base with the basics--transporters, workshop with a vault door. Most of the time, this works out--even if said SG doesn't have a decent base, I often find that they're coalitioned with one or more SGs that do. That's really all I care about when it comes to an SG, everything else is gravy.

I've never had a bad experience from joining a random SG. My biggest and best villain group was a random SG that I inheireted after the guy who randomly invited me left. One of the few SGs I joined that didn't have much to offer was a young group with some really nice members and I enjoiyed helping them earn prestige and get their base up and running.

About the worst thing that's ever happened is that couple of SGs have eventually kicked me for inactivity (If I don't have my own SG on a serever, it's probably one I don't play on too often) But that's no big deal, as I just join the next one that offers. I've never voluntarily quit a SG, though I can do so with the push of a button.

I would never send blind invites for my own SGs, but I don't have anything against anyone who wants to blind invite me. I can always decline or even block the invites. Or I can take a chance and see what they got--I really don't have much to lose.
