Downloading File Manifest?

So, I was trying to install the game earlier, when the power went out. At the time, it had been patching (like, at the worst speed ever and it was telling me I'd have to wait 300+ hours, but hey).

When the power came back, I started it up again, but now the updater won't get past "downloading file manifest". It doesn't appear to be actually downloading anything, since there's no time, no transfer rate, no progress, and the bar's empty.

It's stayed like that for several minutes, through multiple attempts.

At the very least, I'm pretty sure it's not my connection - I'm not having any problems relating to it, besides this.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance <3

In your installation folder, delete the file "coh.checksum" and then run the updater again. Should force a checksum and then start again.

Just for reference, on 32bit Windows you can find the file in the directory C:\Program Files\City of Heroes, and on 64bit windows C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes (both assuming default installation path). Mac Edition is a bit more complicated, plus I don't use Macs so I'd just be haphazardly guessing

Okay. This time it started the download again, after awhile...but something's up with the connection. Since I'm downloading at 0 b/s, and have an estimated wait time of 885390 hours (just over 101 years, apparently. Noice.)

I've already portforwarded for the game, though...so I dunno why it's so bad.

If you haven't tried already, I'd recommend trying to close then reopen the updater. Hopefully it was just a weird connection glitch, but sometimes the Update servers are just slow (generally not that slow, though!).

Good luck!

Bleh...no dice. In the end, it managed to push up to 1.2 kb/s. I don't suppose there's somewhere official-like that I could just download the patches directly from?

This happened to me when I installed the game on windows7. After scouring the forums, the best I could find was: "just wait, it'll get past it". I can't tell you exactly how long I had to wait (between 5 minutes and an hour-ish), but I can say that despite the 32 years the downloader was quoting me, it didn't take that long. Basically, I just left it running and did something else; when next I checked, it was working normally - at some point it will continue the DL and install normally, but until you get to that point the progress bar won't move and you'll see a ridiculously long time estimation. For the record: I tried deleting coh.checksum (several times) as well as uninstalling the game and starting over - regardless of what I did (other than letting it run/sit there/whatevertheheck it's doing while quoting a multi year time frame), I still got the non-moving progress bar and a time estimation in excess of 20 years for completion.

Is/was it stuck on "sound.pigg" There's a running theory that the updater does not exactly report downloading/processing speeds in real time, but rather by taking the sum of the file sizes completed in the last unit of time (don't know what it is).

Normally this method would work reasonably well. Downloaded 60Mb worth of files in the last 5 minutes? well that right there is 200Kb/s. But when you reach the huge files like some of the *.pigg ones, that method hits the floor. 5 minutes pass, and no completed filed to report on. Reported transfer rate takes a dive, and since the time remaining is based off of transfer rate against total bytes remaining...

If you can, just leave it running over night, should finish everything by the time you wake up.

Yeah, that's what I did. 14 hours later, it's done =P

But I think there was a problem in the game's image files. None of the skins and stuff seem to be there - my character's completely invisible during character creation, regardless of choice, past sort of a ghost-thing that makes it hard to make out what the choices look like and any attempt to chose colours has the game tell me that I haven't selected any. As a test, I tried to take Assault Rifle, to see if it was just how the character creator is supposed to look...but it doesn't really make sense for only 3 of the guns to be visible, and the rest to be seethrough, lawl.

I had the updater verify my files, but apparently everything's where it should be.

As Aggelakis said, this sounds like an outdated video driver issue (specifically, Intel's crappy video accelerator commonly does this on older drivers). If you're unsure which card you have, post a CoH Helper log (which'll also say what version/date your video driver is).

Lei, do you have screen shots of the 300 hours for Download?

Stop necroposting every single thread you can find about slow updaters.

Not only is it rude, because it shoves questions people may still be waiting for answers on off the first page, where they are less likely to ever get an answer, but it is also against the forum rules.

Just STOP already. If you have a problem with it, start a new thread instead of dredging up threads from months ago. I counted SIX that you ressurected, all about the exact same thing.

No, this issue from the past was never solved. IF YOU HAVE FIXED THE OLD ONES, WHY CREATE A NEW ONE?

CoH updater is no longer supported and will not work. You need to get the NCSoft Launcher.
