It wasn't just global chat it was personal tells. They were spiteful and vindictive. On my first night, within an hour, I had fifteen people on ignore. No, sadly, that community has a lot to learn about being respectful. I didn't respond to any of it either. The nastiness just poured in. No, I have my problems with DCUO, but I doubt I'll receive this kind of animosity there. (Oh, I will thread it if I do, believe me.)
I need some time to cool down. If you could send me the channel info and how to get in it. Maybe when I get back online I'll give this another whirl. -
My brief tenure in Champion Online last night.
LOTS of people bashing CoH players now coming into their game. God help me if I said anything positive. The developers may be welcoming us, but their community is just as snub nosed as I remember. For fifteen minutes I heard a conversation go on and on about us being attached to a sinking ship and its what we deserve, etc. etc. Not just by one player either, there were a slew jumping on the band wagon.
As its stands, after thirty minutes of being berated and being called "Welcome aboard, good luck finding a group flunkie" (that was the most kind thing said to me) I have decided to stick to my intial reaction where this game and its community are concerned.
For the Record, I am not a whiner, fair weather gamer, or a drowning rat. Thank you CO community for treating me like crap just because I said, "Oh, the costume generator is diffrent than CoH. Thank you for..." And then the very person that helped me slammed me with a tirade of how sucky I was for coming over now.
Thank you Cryptic Devs for the invitiation, it was cordial and well intended. Your community, however, has a lot to learn about being civil to others. True, we stuck to CoH, but that is no reason to treat us like garbage. -
Actually, that's an impressive application for a job with Lucas. Might wind up working on something completely new. Instead of ignoring the expanded universe Lucas has been steadily embracing it with Clone Wars, an up coming second series with Seth Green, and a live televsion show. Whenever someone pays Lucas Respect (and escpecially when they don't try to make money off it) it becomes an avenue to work with the very person to which you paid homage.

Wait! So I was expected to KEEP my time cards after applying them else I won't get a refund? Grrrr.... That's just stupid! Sorry, not angry at Zwill here, but imensely pissed off because I just lost $$ because I didn't aniticipate them shutting down the game. You know what NcSoft, Bork to you and your stupid Blade & Souls. I hope Guild Wars' success continues and smothers it. I for one, will NOT be accepting compensation toward that game, Aion, or Lineage 2. Give me my money or credit in GW2. Any other resolution is still in the realm of "You should have known we were going to do this."
-
This is grand and puts a huge black eye on NcSoft. Both Carbine and Arenanet are probably looking at the "out" clauses in their contracts "with" their products because they can certainly claim intentional corporate sabotage. Another burden of proof, that they knew they were going to do this, the NcSoft Game cards stopped promoting CoH and showcased only two games; Lineage 2 and Aion. NcSoft planned this and waited for the big Guild Wars 2 launch to carry it out so the NA market would look good for investors, but it was only a momentary spike.
What ticks me, like many others and this article stated, is subscription time. I am currently paid through October 2013. I did so wanting to see the end of the incarnate system and the final resolution of the Battalion. Based of the Dev panel such things were in the works. I do not want time in Aion (Guild Wars 2 is superior in every way) or Lineage 2 (GW2 PvP is superior in every way.) Nor will I be pre-ordering this obvious Final Fantasy clone Blade & Soul (again, GW2 is a smashing success why should I.) My main reason for saying no to all three of these games is what happened here.
At this point we are filming our farewell video for the game because we won't be back online (after Sept. 30th) until next year. Because of the continued silence I feel the damage has been done (crying as I type this). The Devs are dispersing into the workforce (I can't blame them in this economy), the players are dispering (those that had little invested anyway), and time is on NcSoft's side. They can now state its impossible to bring it back, and probably will. However, as the article states, the trust that the NA and European markets have in their company will tank. Hopefully, Arenanet and Carbine can escape with their games and future product relatively unscathed.
As for me, at this moment in time, I want one thing, my subscription time (after Nov. 30th) reimbursed (and not in subscription time for games that were tanking here and caused this mess to begin with.)
*gets off soapbox* -
How about this... Retcon CoH, indefinitely, and I'll try this game. Regardless, the major problem is this is a fantasy MMO and so is Guild Wars 2. GW2 is becoming hugely popular and another MMO so soon after will simply tank.
-
So this should read as:
"We'd like you to support Aion with your balance..."
[Insert Swear Word] You!
I would be willing to listen if the balance, however it translates, to Guild Wars 2. But if its subscription for subscription they can bite me. I will not support the games that caused this mess. -
They took away what she was, however, a character full of hope and emotion. They made her the exact opposite of what she was. I'm not interested in her as part of the Outlaws and yes, the writers over reached. I just found out that two comic stores near me don't even have enough demand to carry more than those ordered for box holders and some of them even pass on it. "Whew" sorry I want the preNew52 version back. Glad I didn't find any copies today.

I sent a VERY late/early message to TonyV about something we have been toying around with the last few days. This is even something, barring the worst case scenario, that could come to pass if enough people are interested.
Let me start out by stating this has been tried before by George R. R. Martin himself and it became known as Wild Cards. However, the scope of what we (and I say this because three people utilize this account - don't judge us) have in mind will set our proposal far appart from that litterary work.
What we are proposing is that there is a sheer wealth of creators here. Writers, artists, editors... you name it we can do it. Why let our creative process die with the game (again, in case the worst happens, not saying it will.) We can rebuild our universe, make it a shared world, and show everyone just how talented we truly are. Heck, we could even bring in some of the developers, if they're interested in starting up something new.
Yes, I'm proposing we create our own Comic Book universe. Get something good out of all this. This would be an amazing way to keep the community together and show everyone just how tight a group we really are.
If you are interested, I will be available on the forums until Sept. 30th. After that, I also have to make some hard decisions about my future, but I will keep the lines of communication open with TonyV and his efforts. I think this could be just one more way to show NcSoft and the gaming community just what this game meant to us, it is our inspiration! -
Sooooo if I play GW2 I'm part of the problem? I have friends working on the game, as I stated before, and have been involved with it myself since before the beta. It's a great game and has a great dev team, that like this ne, listens to its community.
There are ways to take action when a company does something wrong, like this, and while I made a childish reaction earlier in this threat to make a point I will clarify myself here. If you dislike what they did, fine, so do I. What I intend to do is slam the two games that should have been shuttered here in the states because they are he orating already; Aion and Lineage 2. Both games do well elsewhere it tanked here and will degrade further because of, wait for it, GW2. NcSoft made a crucial mistake where their US portion of their business is set. They are gong to refocus on Aion, but its already dead because the pvp player base from it will find GW2 more appealing.
Now, to say I'm the enemy, when I have been utilizing my own (comic company based) contacts to see if that avenue can save the game... Well, let's take a look at Going Rogue for a moment and the two sides of the Resistance. I'm the part that doesn't want to take any more casualties. Hurting GW2 would result in more casualties. Bad press is currently what we need and it needs to be directed at NcSoft themselves. They were trying to make themselves look good for a buyout. Since we have reached media levels trying to save the game the battle is already a part of the way there. Any potential buyer will now think twice aout a company that doesn't think things through properly. No one wants to invest in a problem.
Stating that people are part of the problem, just because they choose to do something differently, does not make it true. Please, again I say, let cooler heads prevail because the message is already starting to sink in. -
Sorry, before this forum goes down I need to know if I can go look for her in a book and not be ashamed again. BTW vid of my main meeting the NON-Bimbo Starfire will be coming soon *smile*.

War Witch is my fave character and you, without a doubt, are an inspiration to follow. Your humble beginnings at Cryptic and then rising to the esteemed position at which you ended you tenure. Thank you Melissa. I will be following you to where ever you next destination is... that sounded stalkerish *turns invisable*. All kidding aside, I will buy whatever game has your name attached to it.
-
1) Was a Living War Witch Model planned for Croatoa since she came back in Night Ward?
2) How were you going to handle the War Witch/Apex Reunion, if at all?
3) Was there going to be a team up with War Witch and Desdemona?
4) War Witch Task Force or maybe a series of missions from her?
5) Can you tell who my fave Lore character was? -
Sorry, I would not start over. There are several factors, one being I worked really hard on my characters and currently do not have the time to redo all of that work. If it were a new game, yes. Same game, no. Unless I can keep what I already have then my time in CoH ends November 30.
-
I can tell you, for a fact, the devs at Arenanet are stunned by what happened. And if you think they're not worried the same could happen o them, think again. Arenanet has the same type of developers. They listen, interact, and care about their player base. I'm not punishing them for the stupid parent. But I will be vocal about Wildstar. Do not drop any money into it when it comes out. Let it tank. That, above all else, will send NcSoft a very loud message.
-
Thank you, BaBs that is along the lines of what I was waiting for. But, no offense, there are many like me that have a feeling off ill will, and are hoping for a ray of light not involving PW/Cryptic. If it does happen, though, I ask that the lines of communication with the players stay open, like this dev team has done. The "closed off" approach is what is hurting a certain other Once Giant, now hemoraging, portion of the MMO industry.
-
I know people at Arenanet and they were just as shocked by this as the rest of us. Did they take their time with Guild Wars 2, yes. But they are nitpickers for quality and that should be appreciated. They could have shoveled out Guild Wars 2 early, but chose to wait until it was, indeed, ready.
NcSoft made some risky business decisions, not Arenanet. They made a big aquisition and didn't retool Aion for the American audience (we hate grinding.) Closing Paragon Studios to shovel money at Aion, here, is a huge mistake and will probably cost them in the long run. The MMO market is not what it once was because of online support in many games that aren't MMOs. This takes away part of the dynamic of what made MMOs unique. It's not NcSofts fault, entirely. And hating Guild Wars 2 will only hurt our efforts even more because, if that game fails, NcSoft will shut down another truly remarkable company that also listens to its playerbase. I, for one, do not wish to see that.
There is also the possibility that Arenanet could convinve their publishing arm to allow them to take CoH under their wing. Please, as TonyV stated, let cooler head prevail. -
Unless I have veritable proof, as I stated before, I will not play a Cryptic backed CoH under his "Vision". For years he told us no and the wonderful people here told us yes after he left. BaBs I respect but there is much left to the unknown here, still. I'm just not willing to forgive Jack without him, at the very least, stepping forward, for the record.
At this point, since the efforts to save the game have hit a newsworthy level, the truth will come out one way or the other. I just want our Devs to be the ones in control one way or the other. -
I'm still a skeptic here. Jack was missing Friday? Why?
I love you BaBs, but where is still Jack stepping up and stating he had nothing to do with it. Until NcSoft and Jack BOTH debunk this I am not convinced. It may still be a rumor, but after years of listening to Jack state that things weren't in his "Vision" for the game I'm unconvinced until he steps forward and states something for the record.
Yes, I'm hurt, but we still have no clear answers. Until then I won't touch Champions or give Cryptic any money. Am I reading too much into an absence, maybe, but I just want to be cautious with someone, that in the past, created a lot of animosity with the player base. -
DR: You were our inspiration to start our channel. Thank you! Above all others in CoH (except maybe Snow Globe since she was our badging resource) you proved to us that not only can the game entertain us, but it can be used to showcase to others as well. Again, thank you.
-
Two things:
1) We sent a heartfelt letter to a company no one thought to approach and if they bite, especialy since I have connections there, it will be a moment unlike any you have ever seen.
2) Thank you for the "So Long and Thanks for the Ponies" thread in the Hero Culture forums. It is priceless and one is now part of my desktop backdrop. (No, I'm not Tara *smirk*) -
On behalf of Mighty "T" (who is related to this Pony thread in a big way)... "This was sheer awesomeness."
-
I will never play CoH under Cryptic or any company that owns them. Jack made a point to tell this community, over and over on these forums, things like Side Switching and Power Customization were not possible, and more to the point, not part of his "vision."
The devs at Paragon never trumped out the Vision statement. They treated us with respect and became part of us. They even did what Jack, now that it's apparent, refused to do because he viewed the game as his playground and not the players. The problem with that is the players "are" the heart of the game. Ignore them and you get what's happening with other games.
No, if Cryptic sabotaged the game I will never forgive them, especially Mr. Vision. So, as a favor to all of us, and I do appreciate all the efforts to save the game, but if Cryptic/PW had anything to do with this I do not want them in charge. I would rather be left with the good memories I have of a team that loved us rather than the potential jerks that didn't.
