You have no idea how much the loss of the ~ key for binds pissed me off. Every one of my characters used it for travel powers (except my Warshade, which used it to target dead bodies... necrophiliac!), I had to rebind every character, and try to figure out wtf key I would use, and is probably a large part of the reason I began ditching travel powers (I definitely couldn't do stuff like switching between SJ and CJ mid-fight... I like my combat mobility ).

Now I have my favorite key back... woooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Escape also puts away your weapon, if you have one. I got into the esc-tab habit on a nonweapon character and now whenever I'm playing a sword -type scrapper I swear a lot.
Yeah, that's a good point... always forget about the redraw "penalty"... should, since I remember clearly when the whole thing was finally addressed by the Devs, and how it was actually not a penalty at all at the time*.

    * Except when it was, or when the attack was faster when you drew with the attack... apparently the original animators just put random numbers!

You can also hit escape to clear the target first, then hit TAB to get the closest foe.
If you hit escape, then try to use an attack, it'll automatically select the closest foe.

Personally, I use tilde for targeting as well, so I don't have to use Control+TAB.
I used to use tilde (technically the grave accent key) for toggling my travel powers... but since I switched laptops a few years back CoX completely ignores that key for binds

SSD's latency, "seek time", and transfer rate will just slaughter a traditional spinning rust bucket.

The latest gen of SSDs are already about to bump into the limit of the newly-introduced Serial ATA 3... SATA is quickly going to be completely outpaced by the speed of the drives (some manufacturers are already toying with alternative methods, like plugging them straight into the PCIe bus, or using wired PCIe).

Once the store comes back up, the character slots should reappear as well. If they don't that's when it's time to contact CS or a community rep.
This. When the online store is down, only 12 slots are available per server. If you want to roll a new character and must absolutely do it right NAO and it has to be on that server, you have to delete characters until you only have 11... So, just be patient. You could go to a different server and work on your costume/power customization until for now and save it, and then roll it later when the store is backup.
  5. The real April Fools is that they pushed i20 live without telling anyone. That's what the "extended maintenance" was for yesterday.

Plus, the paragonwiki.com address predates the wiki.blahblahblah address. But, IIRC, when they moved off of wikia, they didn't immediately get the paragonwiki address back, so for a while wiki.cohtitan.com was the only valid way of getting there... and then they got their domain back, and had it point to the same spot. Paragonwiki.com's url was already used in countless places, so to prevent anything from breaking they pointed both to the same thing, so that any existing forum posts/guides wouldn't need to be rewritten.

(YES! I used "point" three times in that reply!)
The primary point was to fill in gaps (especially pre-Ouroboros and pre-AE and pre-XP-While-Exemped), along with something for 50s to do. There's the variety because, beyond newspapers/radios, they generally deal with special enemies (such as Rularuu, Cimerorans), or offer special rewards (each Borea mission gives a vanguard merit as a reward... or was it multiple? something like that!).

Originally they had the deal with Intel & nVidia. Now, you'll notice both of those logos gone, and AMD/ATI logos instead. I wouldn't put much stock in the little logos either way.

That, to me, suggests the Devs have intentionally limited the internal data structures to use no more than 1.5 gigs of memory, but could bypass that limit if data is leaked (and leaked data is no good, since it's unaccounted for).

All in all more ram = more system speed including COH. If for no other reason because the OS will do more caching and there is less competition for ram space and less VM access.

There gets a point where you won't be seeing any benefit from additional RAM. If the system is able to keep all the files it's regularly accessing cached in RAM, and the programs you're using have already reached their limit... you're not gonna benefit from more RAM.

The special switch only works with programs compiled using that special flag (plus, windows also has to be started with a special flag), if you tried to forcibly set it on the CoX executable (i.e. hex editing the file), Bad Things could very well happen (especially if any code depends on the normal top of the user space address space).

Also, for whatever reason, City of Heroes will never use more than 1.5 GB of RAM, even if Windows technically allows it to use more. You can see this in practice, while CoX is running, fire up Task Manager and it won't pass that magic number, even if you have unused RAM.
  11. If you've already got a fair bit of accuracy buffs (from enhancements and set bonuses), I'd opt to try to get some +tohit buffs, as they're multiplicative with accuracy buffs. Theres a tohit buff IO that's fairly cheap that can be slotted in a defensive power, like Combat Jumping or Hover, that'll boost the tohit of all your other powers (but it won't help pets). Also, as mentioned, there's Tactics, which'd be a better option for someone with lots of pets.

Personally, around 60% accuracy enhancement is what I aim for as a minimum, less if I have extra tohit or it has a raised base chance.
  12. Make sure you don't have a VirtualStore directory with the pigg files in it. The VirtualStore directory is in, by default: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\, usually in Program Files\City of Heroes or Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes under that.
  13. No issue here. I'd suggest trying to verify your files.

This section is for people that are encountering technical issues primarily, don't let the slash in the section name mislead you (it's not 'Gameplay' as well as 'Technical Issues & Bugs', but 'Gameplay Issues & Bugs' in addition to 'Technical Issues & Bugs'.

It's not really a big deal, though, mostly just for future reference.
  15. The maintenance earlier resulted in an inadvertent roll-back, so they brought the servers back down to deal with that (and possible other issues, if that was a symptom of a larger problem that cropped up or something).
  16. It's been achievable for quite a while now, solo.

    Integrated ATI Radeon™ HD graphics
    2GB DDR3 memory, 500GB HDD storage
I've no idea what they mean by "up to", but most any recent (non-atom) processor should have no trouble with CoH. As for the graphics, it's likely going to only be playable with lower settings, and 2GB of ram is fairly low, especially by todays standards, so CoH generally won't have enough memory.

I'd say to look elsewhere, you should be able to find systems a fair bit better for the same price range- especially if you're willing to build it yourself.
  18. In addition, City of Heroes will only use about 1.5 GB of memory max, so even if you're on a 64bit operating system, you wouldn't gain much of any benefit by going beyond 4 GB of RAM (although other things might, especially if you run other heavy applications at the same time).

You won't see Mids itself, as it's (1) a .net application and (2) written in Visual Basic... but, you might see another application designed for character creation and all that fun jazz... although, really, the biggest hurdle to creating one is that there's no easy access to the vast amount of power information that it would need. The database Mids uses seems to be extremely hard to work with (since the in-app tools just cause massive explosions), and reverse engineering the format would probably just be a pain in the ***.

I've in the past worked on a variety of projects that'd love to have access to the powers (the latest one being an app that'd find the absolute best attack chain of a given length, with a given set of powers... although the crazily large processing requirements didn't help with that too much either), I've even started trying to create my own (there are a lot of powers in the game! )... Maybe one day

I've actually spent more than a few classes sketching out a touch interface for a character designer, a few of which I actually rather liked on paper... But now I'm just rambling
  22. I'm not really sure how much utility there is in seeing what level/server your characters are... but I've been working on a couple apps for Android to do other things (ooo mystery!)

I don't believe a third party app could get the information about your characters/servers without doing a bit of reverse engineering, which'd likely not go over too well with Paragon/NC... although, it could theoretically be paired with a program that runs on your machine (similar to Titan Sentinal or Hero Stats) that records that information and stores it somewhere else (but, again, would people really be interested in that? I generally remember what level the characters I care about are...).
  23. It's enhancements, not enchantments

With that out of the way... there's already quite a lot of diversity in peoples' choices for most categories. There's certainly more than a few that could use another set or two, but IMO it's nothing horrific and must do nao!!!, just would be nice to have.
  24. Your graphics drivers are out of date. According to Intel's site, there was a new driver released on 3/10. Check out this page on Intel's driver site.

If that doesn't fix the problem, I'd suggest also posting a HiJack This log, since I don't notice anything else with the CoHHelper output that stands out to me (other than Intel's HD Graphics simply sucking).
  25. Thread already exists about this exact topic. In short, it's a network issue, although we haven't tracked down where (we can conclude it's not on the client side, or a universal server side problem, so it's likely an upstream router somewhere that's just a pos...)
