Need some help to find an inexpensive Vcard upgrade.

Currently I'm running Radeon 9250 with 256k, on a P4 2.80gz (single) with 1.5gig of ram. After the last few updates to CoH, my video performance has become, well, "less than stellar" and Ultra Mode seems so far beyond what my current card can handle that I audibly hear it whimper whenever I go near the sliders.

I have a PCI slot, and a PCIe slot that I could put a card into.

I don't want to put a lot of money into the new card, because I'm planing to upgrade the computer soon(ish). I'd just like a card that will give me some better performance as well as let me play some more current(ish) games, such as Bioshock and Borderlands.

Any suggestions?

It's 106 miles to Grandville, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing faceless helmets

I got a radeon 5770 1GB (newegg has it now for $135). But it's PCI 2.1 and not backward compatible so I ended up having to change my motherboard, which led me to upgrade to an amd phenom 925 quadcore and 4GB of ram. But I can play CoX on ultramode @ 1600x1200, and the Sims 3 runs fairly smoothly, Crysis 1 and 2 play well also on medium to high settings.

I'm looking to upgrade from my 9600GT (I wait til the $100 card on Tom's Hardware's "Best Graphics Cards for the Money" is 3 tiers above my present one) and *almost* pulled the trigger on a Radeon 5770, but came here and it seems the game runs like crap on Ati/AMD. Now I'm thinking to drop another $25 and get the Geforce 460 instead. A plus would be having PhysX fully supported.

I'm not having any issues with my amd/ati setup with the latest drivers. But NCsoft has some kind of deal with nvidia and intel so maybe those are better for this game. Before my radeon, I was using an nvidia 7800gtx, so I'm better off now.

Originally they had the deal with Intel & nVidia. Now, you'll notice both of those logos gone, and AMD/ATI logos instead. I wouldn't put much stock in the little logos either way.

I can't remember exactly, but I think I shelled out about $50 to $60 for my 1GB Radeon HD4650 at Best Buy a few months back. Been serving me quite well ever since.
