Ugh, /signed. Getting three CoT missions while I'm in the All Spectral Demons All The Time level band is basically an instant log for me if I'm on a lethal damage melee character.

I tried to found the Stop Talking About Factions Faction, but then it exploded under the weight of sheer irony.

Boss farm!
I'm going to go on the assumption that just I would have access to these, since otherwise, it breaks down a lot. As much fun as I could have with infinite influence (I would demand that the cheat code be +ATM), having costume contests with 30 purple sets as the reward and then buying up the entire market's contents to repost them at randomly-chosen numbers (enjoy your 10 inf Deific Weapon and 1,500,000,000 inf Kinetic Weapons), I'd have to go for

I've actually found it best to set the taskbar to autohide and sticking it on the left side of the screen... just set to autohide, it has an annoying tendency to pop back up if I try clicking buttons on the first row of my tray. Even then, I have to set my IM to not blink upon receiving a new message, or it forces the bar up until I acknowledge a message. So, it's a bit annoying to need to change my IM and taskbar settings every time I play the game, but it's at least better than what I had before. I certainly wouldn't pass up a solution to make it start working in fullscreen mode again, but it's gone from 'I may as well give up on levelling' to 'this is slightly annoying.'

I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, and so far everything with CoH works great... except that I can't alt-tab. Might not sound like much of an issue, but I'm usually IM'ing with people I'd rather not blow off while I play the game, so being able to alt-tab is basically the difference between being able to play the game whenever I want and being able to play it about two hours a week when they're not on.
I also changed versions of video card drivers during the upgrade, from Catalyst 8.something to 9.1. Nothing else about the system has changed, and I'm using the exact same CoH settings, since it's the same account and the same files, copied to an external drive prior to the installation.
When I try to alt-tab, my cursor acts like it was successful--if I move it over where the text field on my IM client is, it turns into an I-beam cursor. However, I can't see anything except CoH, including my task bar. If I drag something onto my second monitor (extended desktop) and start CoH, it doesn't disappear... but that monitor is a TV across the room, so it's not exactly something I can put the windows on for easy use. Hitting Ctrl+Alt+Delete is about the only thing I've found that can grab the main monitor from CoH.
Edit: Since these are the most commonly-suggested solutions I've seen (I just now thought to search for 'minimize' instead of 'alt-tab' or 'alt tab'), CoH is running in the same resolution as my desktop and I've tried switching with another full-screen app open behind it.

Quote:I believe that the emanation point is always where you are when the power fires and starts animating. Can make for some nice fun by leaping behind obstacles or away from enemies as you fire attacks.I've also found that PBAoE attacks have difficulty deciding what's in range if you fire them while moving. If you haven't come to a complete stop before using it, there's a chance that it might be deciding that nothing's in range, even if you're bumping into them.

It has a fairly small 10 foot radius. Is it possible that you're just having trouble getting more than a few enemies within the radius? One thing I'd definitely do is look at my To-Hit check channel when using it. It should list one check per enemy in the radius, so you can make sure that the accuracy is what you expect and see exactly who it's hitting. With that slotting, I'd imagine it's at 95% versus most things within several levels of you. It's also only a mag 2, so lieutenants and bosses will be unaffected unless they're already under a sleep effect.

It's not just toggles, either. Playing Silly Noise... um, I mean Sonic... Blast makes me want to beat my head against a wall. I'd love it if I could replace the set's SFX with a bunch of high-pitched noises like the tier one blast has.

Quote:Pff, but villains don't even need jobs. Rob a bank once a month and you're set. That was my first thought too.
Sure it's a tyrannical regime where personal liberties are eroded by the State and the police force is used to control the population.
But 3 day weekends people. 3 day weekends!
Long live the seven-day weekend! -
Will it give you a temporary power experimental weapon on every mission that has a 60% chance of killing you?

Quote:The tank only gets the alpha if he can beat me to it. Once Acid Mortar and Poison Gas Trap are down, Tenebrous Tentacles + Nightfall (which basically puts me at the defense softcap) and drop a mine. This will probably change once I hit the higher levels, since that's mostly effective against minions and 40+ blasters tend to mulch those in seconds, but it's quite effective now.Playstyle... I tend to just charge in, seeker drones + poison bomb. If there is a tank who is tough enough he won't need poison bomb, I will just seeker drone (just as he is charging in), howl (when he taunts or drops his first AoE), drop acid mortar, then start blasting away. If I'm naughty I trip mine after I poison bomb
I've played with a few other traps defenders and I find it kind of strange that I only see a few who rush in and toebomb. I just can't conceive of playing traps any other way. How many of you do this? -
Quote:Cone: Like the MM dual pistols cone.I'm just trying to figure out what kinds of animations would be necessary to make a non-flashy DP set that also included at least one cone and one AoE.
PBAoE: Shoot a lot. While turning.
Really, this is the same problem I have with dual blades: the set is too flashy for some concepts. My DB Brute was supposed to be a hulking undead horror with two big ol' butcher knives, then I got into combat and found myself apparently piloting a ballerina who'd had too much coffee. Still, it's a bit early to complain, since we can hope there are alternate animations for the attacks and none of them except the nuke were that excessive. I'll agree that generally, it's best to make a character to match the animations, but the animations should probably try to accomodate concepts that are likely to want to use those powersets, like villainous gangsters. -
Quote:If the patch notes for the i17 said that this is what the issue was about, I'd be overjoyed. Heck, if the patch notes for GR said this is what it was about, I'd be overjoyed. As it is, I PUG to 35, then do the RWZ arcs in between more PUGs.First: replace the original contact models with models created with the costume creator. Most modern contacts use the player model and player-available costume parts, with some having unique parts. This may seem like an odd suggestion, but the old models are really ugly and could use a major facelift.
Second: get rid of duplicate contacts. There are a number of contacts that share the same arcs. Double the contacts does not mean double the content.
Third: make the contact MATTER. Your contact should have a personal involvement in the story, either by showing interest and concern through dialog or by showing up in the missions themselves. They don't have to be the star, but the contact should be meaningful to the story in some way. Most original contacts don't figure into the story at all and are utterly forgettable and completely interchangeable.
Fourth: cut the fat. Rewrite the longer arcs and remove the pointless fluff missions that don't advance the plot. We don't need to clear out 5 different warehouses when we'll get the point after clearing out just one. Scrap the boring arcs or rewrite them to be at least somewhat interesting. And cut out the non-arc missions. Most of them, anyway.
Doing these things not only removes a lot of the disparity between the old and new content but it also encourages longtime players to level characters through content rather than powerlevel past it. One of the attractions of powerleveling is being able to skip the boring crap.
My Big Problem #2 with hero missions is one that Demobot hinted at above: There's too much fat. It was probably needed before, but the levelling speed nowadays is way higher than it was back in i1. If I have a character at 28 and feel like running a PUG, I can pretty safely bet that grabbing a normal contact will be a waste of time. After they make me run to New Zealand and back a few times to talk to the security chief, they'll give me six standalone missions with brilliant plots like '[X enemy faction here] has taken Y lawyers hostage for no apparent reason].' By time I get to the story arc, I'll be two bubbles from outlevelling it... and it will take twice as long as it ought to to complete, thanks to doubling up half of the missions and making others kill-alls for no apparent reason.
My villains, on the other hand, do contact missions as much as possible starting from level 5. -
Lots of +acc to discourage defense sets and lots of guys weak to smashing and lethal damage. It really IS bizarro Paragon! I bet their PUGs refuse to start until they can find a stormz0rz and everybody complains about MA/EA stalker farmers driving all the prices up.

Pff. Issue 18 will have been nothing compared to the nose width slider nerf in i23. I hear that 124% of the game's subscribers will cancel over it.

Agent Rubicon: My Merc/Traps MM, probably going rogue. This is the big one for me, since she's trying to take over the world to rule it as a benevolent dictator. She truly does want to make it a better place, she just doesn't trust anybody but herself to do that. I gave up on playing her as a villain, because it was a bit hard pulling the benevolence off in between the missions to burn school books to make people miserable for Arachnos and steal disease antidotes. If I have the option to head heroside for a while whenever I come up on a particularly stupid villain contact, that might help quite a bit.
Silead the Lament: My Claws/Ninja stalker. Probably going rogue, since she's not a particularly bad person. She just happens to need to painfully murder people once or twice a day to keep from going into a coma.
She'll probably get as close to Hero as she can without taking that final step, since horribly eviscerating people for jaywalking is a little out-of-line for a pure hero.
Kai-Lian: My Dark/Elec Defender. Probably going vigilante, especially if she can work for the Praetorian government. She's basically a Lawful Evil heroine--she fights for Paragon because she's quite comfortable with the status quo, it gets her fame, and she gets all the salvage she could want for experiments. If she could get the same comfort in a setting that allowed her to abuse her power without much fear of retaliation...
Erica Strauss: My MA/Regen Scrapper. Staying as close to neutral as she can, because her motivations can mostly be summed up as 'BEAT STUFF UP. WHOOOOOO~!' -
I remember seeing the imps waaaaaaaaay long back, so I don't think it's anything even remotely new, but they do seem to summon them quite rarely.

Real Life: A Review
Free subscription, but as usual, this leads to it being full of morons. There's far too much grinding, and even more, loot and how long you spend working are only moderately related. Only about 1% of the players ever even get close to the top loot. PvP sucks, death penalties are way too harsh, there's way too much downtime, and the devs haven't talked to the playerbase in so long that a substantial portion of the players think they didn't even exist in the first place. Crafting also takes forever.
On the upside, the servers are very stable.
