Now that we can customize colour how about sounds

I find some of the sound effects on toggle armour powers to be highly annoying. Could we get a no sound option for powersets.

I deleted my Energy Arua brute because Energy Cloak makes a droning noise like a WW2 bomber engines when running - since I didn't want to bomb Dresden I was left with delete to make room for a non-annoying armour set.

The whiring blizzard sounds from ice can get old fast too.

No effects kills the sounds of powers, as well. I wouldn't be opposed to a no-sound option for powers, but since they fade, why is that a problem?

And here I thought we were going to talk about character-specific sound customization, like the sound of footsteps. Though, the HeroCon video suggests that that might be rectified.

Not all toggles fade out - I wish they did.

If I'm not mistaken, all toggles should fade, so if you find any that don't, you can probably submit those as bugs and/or list them in BABs Official Visual Effects bug thread. I'm not sure if it completely the right place, but since we don't have an audio effects thread, it's the closest thing you have.

It's not just toggles, either. Playing Silly Noise... um, I mean Sonic... Blast makes me want to beat my head against a wall. I'd love it if I could replace the set's SFX with a bunch of high-pitched noises like the tier one blast has.

I think this is a terrific idea. I know it's been posted before, but still... fun!

I was thinking about this and I think it's a really big job. I think it's certainly worthwhile, though. On the topic I'd suggest that some new audio be added as defaults for character models and footwear. For example, if you have a huge model and high sliders, then you should get a "big" audio set where there are heavy sounding footsteps, etc. If you multiply this with the number of different sounding footwear (bearfoot, metal or boots are the only ones I can think of) and let's say there's a big, medium and small for each, that's at least nine sets of different audio. Quite some work before we even get started on the regular power customisation (let alone pool powers)! Having acknowledged the amount of work involved, I'd just like to add one last comment: Get on with it!

I love the idea of simply turning off sounds from powers, despite it could be for sound annoyance reasons, I was thinking, here comes a Stalker and he snipes you with a big "Kapow-boom-ah", surely Stalkers know the use of a silencer...

But also I would extend the offering of this thread, to allows to switch sounds effects between powers, such as the awesome photon torpedo sound the radiation snipe has.

So long as we don't give people just the option to turn all effects off. This would make PvP very difficult to see what was going on... On the other hand...

*makes a Mime character... Anything/Anything, it still looks awesome without FX!*

I can't wait for BAB to see this thread, I think he'll have an aneurysm

I would be overjoyed with the ability to have ano sounds option for individual powers in PvE, I couldn't give a flying monkeys about PvP

Kheldians. Well, Peacebringers to be exact. It's ok in forms, but human form?
-Boom- Gnnnniiiiiiii
-Zapp- Gnnnniiiiiiii
-Boom- Gnnnniiiiiii ARGHARGAHRAGRAGRAHRAGRAGR make it STOP!!

I like the sound...just not EVERY freaking attack! Its at just the wrong pitch and whatnot, and gives me a headache after a while.

That sort of muffled chain-clank sound Warshades have on most of their attacks gets to me after a while, too. Not in the having-a-migraine way, in the sound-of-styrofoam-rubbing-together way.

When I realized that the minimal FX setting on some of the armor sets disabled the sound FX associated with the powers, I damn near danced a jig.

If they could add a "Disable Sound FX" toggle for each power separate from the various customization choices that would, indeed, rock a whole hell of a lot.

Be well, people of CoH.
