    Incarnate drops

For me, I had decent luck on 16 man bafs. On 4 consecutive runs, I got a vr, r, vr, vr on my rad therm. Make sure to buff a lot if you are support.
  2. I have a friend who is new to MMOs. She is ok with turn-based games, but not that great with arcade style games. So based on my experience with my friend, I suggest:

    Movement options:
    - use ninja/beast/coyote run and/or get superspeed. Get a jetpack/fly for outdoor travel. Show her how to use the follow command on your toon.
    - Under options, there is a mouse option where you click on the ground with the mouse and your toon will walk over to where you clicked. So instead of using a, w, s, d keys, you use the mouse. Let her try these movement options to see which matches her style.
    - On your toon, get recall friend in case she has trouble navigating the map

    Targeting options:
    - get a comfy 3-button mouse, light and slides easily
    - show her how to target through you so that she will automatically target what you are fighting
    - Move commonly used attack powers to tray 1 so she can use keys 1-9 to attack.
    - make a macro/kbind for target nearest

    Agro options:
    - get invisibility/phase shift for 'oh no!' situations
    - use a toon with a self-healing aura and put it on auto to heal herself. She should be ok at low levels and when she gets the hang of it, remove the auto on heal.
    - get defense powers, ie combat jumping, tough, weave, etc.
    - show her when to use lucks and breakfrees
    - show her the art of using corners and other position based tricks to break line of sight

Tough and Weave, get them, slot it up, depending on the build, Maneuvers as well, that'll get you to about 30% defense to all but Psi with 1 mob in range of invinicibility.
Thanks for the replies! I also think it's a good armor, having leveled 2 inv brutes. I gave him an example build, but it seems he ignored it. I'm not quite sure what he has actually picked, but I do know that he selected hover instead of combat jumping (which was in my sample build) so that he can get fly.
He hovers in a fight and has a tendency to just rush in. Case in point, in a cave where we approach a T intersection from the south, and 3 mobs along the corridor like so:
    M1--M2--M3
    ....|
    ....|

    ......US

He attacks the center mob, M2 and mobs M1 and M3 come over. Him and my dom are faceplanted within seconds.

Since he's F2P, he can't use any crafted IOs, just the regular TOs, DOs and SOs. Thanks for the sample build kanga! I'll try to show it to him and if he'll give it a try, we'll do a respec trial so he can modify the build.
  4. I recommended inv armor for my f2p friend's tank. He seems to be dying a lot. I feel that I may have made a mistake with my suggestion.
so far, I told him to get tough and weave. If anyone has other advice to improve survival, please let me know.
  5. On every patch, I get a message that says my drivers are old. Since my drivers are specific to my laptop, I can't just update from the ATI main site. I have to wait for ASUS to release new drivers. What if they don't? For example, I was running with 2008 drivers last year and then after a patch, the game refused to run. I dread that the next CoH patch will refuse to run with the 2010 drivers which is the last set of drivers that ASUS released. What criteria does the game use to determine 'usable' drivers?
  6. Organica did a test by converting r merits to hero merits and then a random roll. if I remember correctly, her average profit for random roll is 77 mil. 77-20 = 57 or 1 mil / r merit. can you average 1 mil profit with random rolls at the merit vendor? from my test, rolls at the merit vendor yield 250-500k / r merit. I would convert r merits to alignment merits.
  7. Paypal is pretty good about tracking charges. login to pay pal and check for recent transactions to see if there is a charge from nc soft

    Login help!

Dumple is right. Ncsoft runs several games. I have a coh and a lineage account under my master account. You need to add the coh game to the master account.
  9. If you play villain and log in 8-midnite pacific time, you are welcome to join me and my friends on virtue. Let me know your toon name.
For teams, I suggest setting looking for team in the team menu and setting your comment to:f2p, plz invite

I'm off to Freedom as I hear there are a lot less nubz over there.
Ive played on 4 servers, and freedom does speedruns the most.
  11. I know someone who runs a level 47 farm for purple drops. If you don't care about shards, get a farm at 47 or 48. Then farm it with a 50.

I also had 5-6 tells that said something like, "What is that?" or "What is Treespec?".
This could be an opportunity to teach new players. As long as they are willing to listen, they can learn new things about the game from vets. With experienced players, sometimes you may get things like: "That's not how we do it on <server name>." "It's much better if you do it like ____." "You're wrong, you'll just agro ___ and faceplant us all." Then things might escalate into who's right or wrong.

New players are kinda like a blank slate, ripe for molding.
In general, it would be good for the game if new players would find a reason to stay, beyond the thrill of leveling up thru farms or DFB.
  13. It depends. For missions, any AT. Speed runs, IOd 50s, mix of dmg and debuff.
for speed runs, I'll ask globals & VG first before pugs.

Villain, in Cap Uni. Here's the test with Eff Adaptor end mod/end

1,800,000,000-1,799,509,600 = 490,400 which is the cost WITHOUT the coupon.
  15. It didn't work for me either. I used the invention table in Uni. Since it doesn't work, I won't log out at the ferry and will log out somewhere else instead. Thanks for the heads up!
  16. You may want to check the connection and make sure the appropriate ports are open. Here's the wiki link with the servers and ports.
There is a Mac forum. You may find an answer there.
  17. Speaking of burning, I was explaining the concept of inf burning to a Liberty player during November's Player Summit. Somehow, he's convinced that it causes inflation. o.O
I tried to explain to him that it should cause the opposite effect since it takes money out of the game, but he's sticking to his guns.
Anyway, more power to the 88s! I'll be watching the 'flame war' from a distance...

Yes, as long as the mission is lvl 50. It seems purps drop more for Lady Winter. YMMV though. I remember doing at least 3-5 runs of a clear all of the map and getting 1 or 2 purp drops. Set your diff to +0x8 to kill as many of the marshmallo beasties as fast as possible and good luck!
For candy canes, set it to +0x1 and just go for the targets. It takes about 5-10 mins to take out the obelisks and LW then pick the 5 CCs reward.

It depends on what one defines by 'play'. If play means getting to 50, then DFB is a good way to level up. For me, play is kind of impersonating the character I made. I would like to get the toon through some story arcs and replaying the same story again and again is like Ground Hog's day. So I would probably play it 4x at most to get the buffs, since the buffs will help on later story arcs.

Be careful about the difficulty in ITF. From my experience, two 50s with judgements and 6 lowbies had a difficult time with Rom and the AVs. The +2 ITF lasted 2.5 hrs. In terms of xp/min, it wasn't good for PL, since the lowbies accumulated a lot of debt. One lvl 40ish toon had over 300k debt.
  22. I dual boxed a 26 min speed ITF with 5 other friends. I prefer to not dual box on TFs, but it was late, and there weren't many players on.

A lot of folks have made good suggestions already.

    My setup is:
    Main toon:
    - run on desktop
    - has Recall friend. If support gets stuck, recall him.
    - When moving support toon, set 1 power on auto-hit to give the illusion that it's working.

    Support toon:
    - run on laptop
    - set on follow.
    - has Recall friend. Use to move fallen comrades from battle while Main is on auto-hit.
    - has Superspeed or Ninja run
    - has Invisibility and/or Phase shift. Used to keep the support safe when there is a lot of agro.
    - 1 auto-hit power, usually a heal or a long range attack
    - if squishy, stop follow out of range of agro radius and use long range attacks.

There are a few people who dislike dual-boxers, so my toons sometimes talk to each other. ;D
I've been dual-boxing for more than a year, and only a handful of people have guessed that I'm playing 2 toons.

    DFB and Badges

The AV will die either way, since the team will kill everything in that room and the tactics required aren't that fancy. If the team doesn't get it, no biggie since most folks run it again to get all the possible reward buffs.
So what if fiery aura is off? Does it make you kill slower by 20 secs during the time the team is killing the AV? The completion time for a badge run vs a regular run isn't a huge difference, maybe a minute at most. If you care about time constraints so much, then by all means ask the leader if it's a badge run before joining. The leader can't read your mind about what you want, so just find teams that will accomodate your playstyle.

The way I read it, Perdi was invited by Team 2 or 3's leader instead of Bus who leads Team 1. Bus may have promised the spot to another player, so Team 2's leader messed up Bus' recruiting. Hence, Perdi didn't make any trouble and was just the unfortunate victim of someone else's mistake.
