Ok now you did it - I must create a Dinomech.
-
I personally took the Ghost Widow mastery.
I got Power Boost - oh yes, the ability to stun EVERYTHING except AV's with Howling Twilight?
Conserve Energy
Fortuna Pet - With Her and Smokey slotted with the increased magnitude Hold IO - you can Hold AV's, and she does Psi Damage.
Armor from Ghost Widow forgot the name.....
So I get all the love of Fire/Dark, 2 pets, Power Boost, Conserve Energy and Armor?
Yeah, it is that good. -
Problem #1 - you are looking at it all wrong. This is not a tank in the strictest sense of the word but your DEBUFFS are your armor. Darkest Night, Howling Twilight, Tarpit, Fearsome stare, your heal and finally Shadowfall.
To take tough is not necessary - Combat Jumping IS necessary. Taking all the Leadership toggles is unnecessary.
This is what you NEED.
Twilight Grasp, Fire Blast
Tarpit
Fireball
Rain of Fire
Howling Twilight
Firebreath
Darkest Night
Super Speed
Shadowfall
Combat jumping
Blaze
These are the things you can't live without. You need them FIRST.
Your gameplay is NOT to stand toe-to-toe and slug things out. You run forward with super speed and shadowfall - use darkest night to DEBUFF a boss - run around a corner and drop tarpit - Jump out using CJ and FEAR the group - Howling Twilight to STUN, SLOW, DEBUFF and make the leaders turn and run - OPEN THE PORTAL TO BURN and everything falls down.
I am making another of these myself now Platinum Scourge and at level 6, I was running -1 x 6 and once at 12 I went to -1 x 8. I now have her at 16 and will be going to 0 x 8.
Understand the synergy of Armors + DEBUFFS + movement. You need to keep moving and since they are slowed and unable to hit you due to the To Hit debuffs you pour on the AoE goodness. Blaze is for that last Boss.
Inferno you will never use - why would you want to drop all your toggles that are debuffing them? I have it - got it at 49 but I only use it and then self destruct in a last ditch chance to save the team in an overrun. -
Fire/Dark and you can run at 0 x 8 at level 10-12.
Yes, they ARE that good.
Powers you need first:
Fireblast
Fireball
Rain of Fire
Tarpit - so they are slow and your powers do 30% MORE damage
Darkest Night - so they don't hit you and they will follow you around corners onto the Tarpit. Slot with at least one range.
Howling Twilight - because it is a clever power it is an amzing stun + a powerful debuff/slow that can even rez people! Slot it with RECHARGE!
Those 6 powers alone will do wonders.
Now later you add the Fear, single target damage and healing and that heal is also a debuff!
There are many builds for fire/dark out there and some are even strange (like mine I have taunt - because I tank and the taunt helps me pull them off my squishies). Most of them are VERY affective and a fire/dark is a game changer on every team you join. -
Some motherboards require not just the large connector be installed but also the 4 or 6 pin connector as well. This sounds like that may be the issue.
-
I have a Fire/Electric tank and I absolutely love it.
I have him currently at 28 and he has been running +0x8 since 22.
The Electric attacks along with some of the VERY cheap IO sets for those powers are VERY good. I can slot the Sleep and Stun sets which give some really nice defense bonuses.
Electric does Knockdown or Knockback and stuns on several of its attacks and this really helps when you start taking too much damage. Some of the other sets are good but the mitigation of Electric is very good and works in a great synergy with Fire. -
Quote:I will look the spec's over again! I missed that it does have 2! Sorry for the wrong info - was in between calls and kind of rushed it!Let me correct Infernus before the forum logs me off for a third time mid post. That motherboard does support two video cards at x16, the third x16 slot is really only an x4 or x1.
It does have USB 3.0 but only on an internal connector. Not sure if it has a bracket with them or not. -
Fire/Dark corrs if properly built are very good at large groups.
Let's take farming the wall in Cimmoria - If you know how the rules of aggro work you can pull 3 groups effectively fighting nearly 30 Romans at once. -
First issue:
South Bridge:Intel ICH10R
Number of Memory Slots:6×240pin
Memory StandardDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*/1800*/2133* (OC)
PCI Express 2.0 x16:2
Onboard Video Chipset:None
Audio Chipset:Realtek ALC892
Max LAN Speed:10/100/1000Mbps
PCI Express x16:1 (When other PCI-Ex1 slot is used, this slot will auto arrange from x4 to x1)
So it is NOT a true SLI/Crossfire board it doesn't have 2 true 16 x slots.
It is WAY over priced. A faster and better system could be built for half the price likely. -
Look at the chart i linked to and you'll see it helps to have more memory. However saying that does going from 100 frames per second (fps) make a difference over 90? Not really but going from 30 fps to 35 - that's quite an improvement.
So look for reviews that show games you play and once you get over 60 fps your eyes can't tell and most people can't tell over 35 fps. Most animated movies are at 35 fps. -
I was just going to post that Hyperstrike - good timing
If you want a dual video card setup realize in CoX it won't really do much.
Here is a pretty good review showing dual and single reviews for a lot of the popular cards:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4051/n...-in-the-gaps/4 -
You have a motherboard where one slot is 16x and the other is 4x so the SLI will be at the SLOWEST speed and basically of no benefit.
My personal choices for memory are always either CRucial or Gskill.

FSC was a mistake - channeling my fire/fire blaster
I do however rarely use single target attacks other than perhaps the highest ones. In AV fights I use conserve power and power boost along with many +end set bonuses. What I find most draining is the vet powers. -
How I play Fire/Dark corrs:
1. Paint a target with darkest night.
2. Run around a corner and drop Tarpit.
3. Soon as they are on tarpit Howling Twilight, Fear, Rain of Fire, Fireball, Breath of Fire jump forward and Fire sword circle and then Fireball again or single target if anything is left.
I have no idea why people want a single target chain when you have vast AoE powers. I seriously run at -1 x 8 starting at level 10 (TEN). Then once I get DO I go to 0 x 8 and once SO I go to +1 or +2 x 8.
I only use Blaze and single target attacks to finish a boss.
I almost NEVER use Inferno and in fact when I do its Inferno and Self Destruct as we are being overwhelmed and this 1,2 punch can clear a huge group.
It is most obvious people play this combination vastly different from what I do. -
That is just assumed to be added to every comment, eh?
-
I know I wouldn't mind joining an all shield SG.
In Real Life I belong to a group called Ironwolf.
We are a Household in the SCA and so a group called: The Company of the Ironwolf would be fun
I currently am leveling up a BS/SD scrapper called Lupus Luna (wolf moon) who is silver metallic armor with black magic symbols, wolf head, Round Energy shield colored silver like a Moon and the Tech sword colored black and silver! -
Perhaps it's time for me to work with a few friends and make that Polearm instructional video I have thought of for 10 years..............
-
I am thankful that I got to play Mab Queen of Winter along with Harry Dresden on some missions.
I am thankful that they'll play the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been City of Heroes. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But City of Heroes has marked the time. This, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -
I joined as a Pug on a Cathedral run last night.
It failed, not just failed but failed beyond failure.
If I may I would like to point out things I learned while we were trying to discover how to take Hamidon down back before anyone but a select group of all Rad Defenders did it.
1. Organize in Galaxy City - Atlas is too busy and everyone gets distracted.
2. Have a channel for JUST RAID LEADERS. The teams will get information from the leader of the team.
3. Define the goals SIMPLY.
Step 1 defeat Rularuu at the gate you are assigned and the 3 leaders should know BEFORE you enter who EXACTLY is going to what gate. The best way is name each team a gate name from the start. As you are invited say - Welcome to team Woe. As you enter the Zone - stay put and player XX will be teleporting you all to the correct location.
Step 2 - Once the Rularuu are defeated begin taking down the gate and try and hold it near 20% until we are sure of the rate each group is doing damage. Once all are at 20% if one group is slower let them start increasing damage FIRST and then everyone else watches the bars and balance it out.
Step 3 - The Gates are down the SAME player who tp'd you - or one IMMEDIATELY designated goes to the new location and brings the team in.
Goals of TEAM LEADERS:
1. Mixture of team make up - you must have damage and a healing sheild and this REQUIRES you to stay grouped. You need aggro control and buffs/debuffs.
2. Teleportation - one or more with group TP
3. Rez ability from temp powers or inherint
4. Healing shield
5. Buffs/debuffs
The thing last night fell apart due to one team scattering and this caused them to not have a healing shield - some attacked the gate and not the Rularuu first and as they started to die the Rularuu destroyed the rest. With too many melee in the group they could not defeat the ranged bosses and the team stalled and the gate never went down.
It is not really hard just a few things you need and it can be easy - number 1 is leadership. -
People when you log in to Left for Dead, Halflife, Battlefield or any of the popular FPS games are you REQUIRED to understand the use of calculus to play?
No, you jump on shoot stuff and as you go you learn how to shoot, buff and tactics.
This game's PvP is god awful. It was merely bad before. Look through these posts and ask your self whether you EVER saw someone crunching numbers on how to use a flyer in Unreal?
No, they discuss where to go - what to do when you get there but the player figures it out - shoot a rocket and do damage, use machine gun do a little less damage, use a heal pack or medic and fix damage.
There is NOTHING that is obvious or intiutive in this implementation. I said once YEARS before and I still mean it - have a PvP server where you get unlimited market use and auto-level to 50 even if it's the Test server and people will learn, adapt and enjoy it because they can port/create a character kit it out and roll being able to change it's slotting or IO's at any time. All for fun and with no impact on their main characters.
Or as I have said here an AE with the ability to control powers, maps and affects. Then we suit up 2 - 8 man teams and off we go! Capture the flag, Escort, Mayhem or any other concepts people can design.
I really think the Devs took a wrong turn and said we must make the rules for PvP. New game designers EXPECT the gamers to modify the PvP and find ways to GET INVOLVED with the games. -
And here you go!
You can change the sounds for the Glowies to something you LIKE - a song cli[p or something - http://strategywiki.org/wiki/City_of_Heroes/Clientmods
Quote:You can replace any sound effect in the game with one of your own choosing. The primary reason for this is to silence annoying looping sound effects like Targeting Drone or Super Speed.
First, if you wish to silence a sound effect, you'll need to download or create an .OGG file that contains several seconds of silence. You cannot just create an empty .OGG file because City of Heroes handles it poorly. To replace a sound with another, follow the same steps, except use your replacement sound in .OGG format instead of silence.
Second, you need to know what to name the file and where to place it. Below is a list of known powers and their locations. To silence/replace a particular sound effect, put your .OGG file in the given directory and rename it to the filename given. If these directories do not exist on your computer, you will have to create them. If you don't like the change you made, just delete the newly saved .OGG file and you are back to standard. For changes to take effect, you will have to restart your CoH client if the game was running while you added, changed, or deleted the .OGG files. -
Epicness?
Easy!
1) Broadsword/Shield Defense scrapper or Broadsword/Will Power scrapper. Do you like the CRUNCH of a sword "arresting" the bad guys? How about the bowling for dollars followed by more crunch of Shield Charge and Headsplitter!
2) Fire/Dark corruptor. Fire and more fire and bad guys who are too slow to get out of the fire and more fire. If you like you can then make a Ninja who uses fire and Ninja magic to make the bad guys all fall down "arrested" with fire!
3) Plant/Kinetics controller. I can't even explain how awesome seeds of confusion are when paired with the beauty of a team speed boosted like pirahnas on crack and damage boosted by fulcrum shift. -
Quote:Here is the thing - if you actually want to do anything other than stand in the middle of a zone and attack single targets this is useless. If you added any type of "TEAM" based PvP (because it is an MMO) then we could use powers to heal walls, bubble flags or many other innovative ways to defend, attack or use strategy.DR is a tool that gives a lot more flexibility to designers when they are creating powerful effects. Without it, PVP would just come down to who can buff the fastest to get off their killing blow.
I understand a hatred towards DR, as it really does monkeywrench a lot of builds, but it does give the Powers team a lot more flexibility in what they are allowed to create.
Your people have the tools - THEY AREN'T USING THEM. Give US the tools in an AE style setting and let US make the balance and tweak the maps to find fairness and a style of PvP your players will like.
Ever play Halflife? Soldier of Fortune 2? These games are so full of plyer made maps even using modded powers that its insane. Maybe heard of COUNTERSTRIKE? It STILL is the number one team played game in the world and it was a PLAYER MADE MODIFICATION.
Give US the tools and I promise you we will make a PvP MMO experience second to NONE. -
Because of the arcane and completely different set of rules to actually do PvP your normal PvE build is in most cases useless.
Now as an attractive option you can have a SECOND much more EXPENSIVE build so you can do PvP if you are willing to learn the rules that govern your powers and it's just slightly less complex than US tax laws. -
The 7 year itch.
A Sam Spade type gumshoe wanders the City.
You have been playing the game since Issue 1 and as the years went by the City grew more familiar. The itch for change hits again you and you realize the game has changed so much from what it once was.
