The Double XP XPeriment 2: Rise of the Mechanosaurs!

This Double XP Weekend, a bunch of LiveJournalers are making a dedicated team run from level 1 to level 50, once again! After the success of the Candy Monsters experiment two Double XP Weekends ago, we've decided to do it again, this time as ROBOT DINOSAURS.

We have eight players willing to dedicate themselves and their weekend to driving a team from 1 to 50. We will be running regular missions and task forces, with papers only when we are completely out of other missions, and will completely avoid the AE "cheat." We will be playing Friday evening, along with all day Saturday and Sunday, following the traditional weekend format.

This project will start in Praetoria (because of our mixed team) and then move on to the Rogue Isles as part of The Pandemonium Posse on Champion server.

Toward the goal of sharing our fun with this community (and the world!), many of us have set up Twitter accounts that you can follow as we go along. A lot of us will even be "role-tweeting," posting as our Mechanosaur characters.

Our lineup:

Pyrodactyl (Fire/Dark Corruptor) http://twitter.com/pyrodactyl
Archeraeopteryx (Archery/Trick Arrow Corruptor) http://twitter.com/Archeraeopteryx
Velocireactor (Fire/Rad Corruptor)
Deinotherm (Electric/Thermal Controller) http://twitter.com/Deinotherm
Electriceratops (Electric/Sonic Controller) http://twitter.com/Electriceratops (That's me!)
Leviathanatos (Ice/Super Strength Tank) http://twitter.com/leviathanatos
Pteranodrone (Electric/Energy Blaster) http://twitter.com/P_Drone
Anklyothor (Mace/Shield Brute)

This list will be updated when more of us set up our Twitter accounts.

Also, I would like to share these:

ELECTRIKE IS PRETTY PRETTY PRINCESS! (Art by @Liz)

Click to embiggen.

That's missing Pyrodactyl, but has quick screenies of the rest of the Mechanosaurs, in their full robotic dinosaur glory.

For those that would like to follow us, but don't want to actually follow all of those Twitter accounts, simply search for the #2xXP hastag.

We're on Champion Redside. If you want to catch up with us to see us "in the tin," send me a tell as Electriceratops and I'll let you know where we're at / going to be.

We made it with just a little time to spare! The Mechanosaurs all went from 1 to 50 in 29 hours of play time, spread over three days. As of 10:10pm Pacific Sunday, the last pair (we were all pacted) hit 50, after starting at 4:45pm Pacific Friday.

Did anyone else see the costume and names and think "80's Saturday morning kids Cartoon"?

It's like they're fans of this long lost cartoon that only had 13 episodes during the mid-80's (which actually...was a lot of them, Visionaries (knights of the magical light!) only had 13 or so Episodes).

I can totally picture those characters fighting off an evil robot dinosaur overlord while saying things like 'Radical' and 'Gnarly'.

Now all they need is a catchphrase.

Oh no....no...noooooo...now I have that darn "DIINNOO-SAAAUCERRSS!" theme song stuck in my head

Here's my favorite screenshot of the weekend, featuring the Mechanosaurs vs. Calistyx: http://twitpic.com/3uzdwn/full

Not pictured: Deinotherm (the photographer), and Velocireactor (hidden in FX, though you can estimate where she is by the blue rad effects).

We did mostly SFs after getting out of Praetoria (we went from 1-22 Friday evening, in roughly 5 hours). We finished Beast Beneath the Mountain, Silver Mantis, Imperious, and all of the Mako patron arc.

Most awesome bit this weekend? Lord Recluse, in the final mission of the patron arc, was worth, on average, 1,000,000 XP.

Ok now you did it - I must create a Dinomech.

The full list of everything we did:

Friday night:
- Loyalist Arcs in Praetoria - Praetor White, Mr. G, Dr. Hetzfeld, Transmuter

Saturday:
- Beast Beneath the Mountain (Tarikoss SF)
- Pirates of the Sky (Silver Mantis SF)
- Two tip missions
- Temple of the Waters (Renault SF)
- Five tip missions (a couple people had missed the earlier 2)
- Rikti War Zone Arcs (Levantera's arcs only)
- The Crystal of Serafina (Ice Mistral SF)

Sunday:
- The 5th Column Overthrow (Mender Lazarus SF)
- Patron Arcs (Mako's first two arcs)
- Imperious Task Force
- Patron Arcs (Mako's last two arcs)
-- On the final mission where you fight Lord Recluse, we did not cooperative complete them. Instead we killed Recluse all 8 times, which netted us around a million xp a pop. I think we got over two levels from just that.

And we wrapped it up and all dinged 50 in the first mission of the Lady Grey Task Force. Rather than finish the TF, we decided to drop it and get some sleep. We'll do the Alpha unlock arc before anything else, and come back for Lady Grey another time.

Along the way we also took down Deathsurge, a couple Winter Lords, and Ghost of Scrapyard three or four times. There was also a Zombie Invasion in Sharkhead that we had fun with, which has a little funny story of it's own, but that's for another time.

I had a LOT of fun doing this again. Despite some connection difficulties with one of our members who toughed it out as much as he could, and despite my having a nasty cold (still do!) through most of it, it was great! It was much smoother this time than it was for Candy Monsters back in August 2009 (which was also fun but brutal), and I look forward to doing it again next year. thanks to everyone who participated - you guys are the best. /e thumbs up

Here are the few screenshots I took throughout the event:

Posing for the camera at the start of the event, Friday night.

Archeraeopteryx, my Archery/Trick Arrow corruptor:

We got stomped by the ambush at the end of the Ice Mistral SF, but not until we'd defeated Archus and completed the mission.

(removed the last one because there was some language in chat not good for the forums - will edit and repost later)

Glad you like it.

Several of us posted screenshots on our Twitter feeds (I gave up on mine after Friday night - I kep forgetting to post anything and everyone else was so much more witty than me in their tweets, anyway)

@Liz had a nice series of pics toward the end of her twitter feed:

My favorite of those is this one of us kicking Recluse's spinnerets:

I believe the themesong goes something like, "DING!" Short, but you just repeat it over and over again.

Well the original Candy Monsters team that we did this with had one - it was the theme song to a movie made by the creators of South Park and which has some not-safe-for-the-forums content so I'll just let folks figure that out. (hint: not Team America) (edit: I don't recall how or why that became our theme song but we're all a little crazy and I blame @BigAngry)

(btw the Candy Monsters thread is here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...51#post2059451 for anyone who didn't see it back then)

For this group, if we had a theme song I'd say it's that terrible song from the Transformers animated movie where the lyrics are "You've got the touch! You've got the powerrrrr... yeah!" because we had a teammate whose gratz bind kept making up think of that song. So we'll go with that.

YOU'VE GOT THE TOUCH!

Also, I half FILKed, in my head, Fallout Boy's "Sugar, We're Going Down" as "Recluse, You're Going Down" because I couldn't shake it from my head.

However, I think we'd have a really cheesy 80s cartoon style themesong, along the lines of Gummi Bears, Visionaries, MASK and Thundercats. It would contain the work "Mechanosaurs," at a minimum of 30 times in 90 seconds of song.

I have returned to real life today, but I will post a number of screenshots to my twitter feed, http://twitter.com/Electriceratops , this evening when I return to the computer with the screenshots. I have a bunch from the Recluse fights and some of them are essentially FX with a few spindly spider legs sticking out of them. I also have a demo record from the LGTF mission that shows just how quick those Rikti were melting under the might of the Mechanosaurs.

Perhaps a suitably cheesy 80's cartoon catchphrase like "Mechanosaurs MECHANIZE!" or something like that to go with the 80's cartoon intro?

In that case, i agree with Energizing_Ion - the one that springs to mind is this:
