Does anyone run a "Phalanx"(/SD team)?

Title says it all.

/SD seems ubiquitous enough and has some interesting potential for team play, thinking of GC and PF mostly, will and that many shielders run Maneuvers.

Has anyone run any TFs with an all shield team?

Does anyone want to?

Phalanx Fridays were my first thought for a catchy name, but I can't always play in prime time hours on Fridays.

Thoughts? Maybe not the best idea since it would be all scraps, tanks, and brutes? Or could we superteam it up with the best of them?

I have a /SD concept I wouldn't mind running with a team of other Shield players. When Shields first came out they did have a few static teams running about, the main one I can think of were the Spartans, all BS/Shield, they apparently did quite well for themselves.

My hours vary, (military), so I don't know if could commit to being there for EVERY session, but I would certainly do everything I could to make it happen.

Well that's one.

I have an erratic schedule as well (film/tv crew freelancer) so I'm still wrangling how that would work. I was thinking about my existing brute originally, but I'm also down to start fresh toon with a group if there's enough interest and scheduling karma to work that.

I have a DM/SD Brute at 50 I could contribute, though DM might not have the martial feel you want.

Yeah, the spartans done well, until the leader started letting everyone and their mom into the damn group and completely decimated the concept.

If you were to run a phalanx style team, what would your concept behind it be?

TBH I hadn't given a concept much thought. Actually, I haven't done any RP in Cox before, or in many years actually. I was mostly using the term 'phalanx' loosely; thinking it might be fun to try to mow through stuff with a group of shielders for kicks.

Of course there's the possibility that I play on Virtue out of some subconscious desire to do a little RP for nostalgia's sake, and some interesting ideas popped into my mind:

I don't know the GR backstory very well, but it seems there's some dimensional travel involved in Cole's various nefarious activities; perhaps in one of these excursions his agents captured many Cimeroran's and brought the back to places like the BAF (or worse). A few soldier's manage to escape and now must work under the radar in a foreign land to discover Cole's plans and how it affects their homeworld. Rescuing other captives would make for another possibility. I'm also not sure how aware Cimeroran's are of Paragon - the general military/citizenry that is, so there's the process of discovering that as well. Then there's the return home (and subsequent ITF, because really, who better to beat Rommy than some returning hometown heroes) One advantage here is that we could have all 3 ATs available. OTOH it wouldn't necessarily have to be an all shield team, since there are probably ways to simulate a particularly powerful Immunes of some sort or another.

I think the man-hole cover is universal, and I've wanted to do a costume with that for a while on my brute, just for kicks. One way to work that would be using one of the gang groups in Paragon, or several. Some sort of special "problem solving" team for the Trolls or Warriors would be kinda hilarious. IIRC not too hard to approximate a costume like that? It could also just be a group of folks who took matters into their own hands.

Vikings, Barbarians, probably some other historical/mythological groups that could be a basis. You guys did Spartans already, so I'll leave that be.

I'm trying to think of concepts that could easily include power sets like elec, dark, etc. Most of those, if one were to be strict about concept, would probably rule out some sets? I don't really know the norm for something like that.

Oooh, I just thought of something else - maybe there is like a robot fight league (Clockwork for gold-side), but a few of the bots revolt and escape, there are tech/science ways to RP just about any powers I'd imagine.

I'm open to ideas though, would be cool to hear if anyone had a concept in the back of their mind.

I can't really think of a concept team that my shield brute would fit into though, that would be more of a "let's get together and stomp some TF #$% from time to time" sort of thing.

I like the idea of a group of mutant teens in Praetoria feed up with Cole's line of BS. Perhaps an even split betwen simple rebels, and destroyers. I could see a single mentor teaching shield defense techniques to all his students, similarly to how Prof X teaches teamwork to all his folk.

Shields are easy to make, and mutants gifted with melee powers, but no defenses might take to the shield as a way to gain those defenses.

whatcha think

I know I wouldn't mind joining an all shield SG.

In Real Life I belong to a group called Ironwolf.

We are a Household in the SCA and so a group called: The Company of the Ironwolf would be fun

I currently am leveling up a BS/SD scrapper called Lupus Luna (wolf moon) who is silver metallic armor with black magic symbols, wolf head, Round Energy shield colored silver like a Moon and the Tech sword colored black and silver!

Ran a 6-man SD/FM Tank ITF sometime back. Literal cake-WALK from beginning up to Rommie... Forgot about the auto-hit attack... (

Yeah, those auto-hits are a PIA.

Actually that sounds pretty cool. Something about "goldside" appeals to my closet revolutionary.

Been rolling around a few ideas based on that, but nothing solid character wise at the moment. I like the idea of the leader/mentor having the literal shield, and by passing along his knowledge to a set of previously scattered and disorganized youngsters he's acting on the idea of a metaphorical shield as well.

It also gives a bit of flexibility for individual back stories - how they came to be a student of the shield, within certain boundaries, seems fairly open. Some could be Resistance or Destroyers, others could come from no particular group - I had one idea that had a young mutant who seems powerless (completely unaware of powers) until the first time he picked up a sword, and that event leads to him being on the run, hiding in the sewers until he encounters the leader of this group. Just a thought though.

@Infernus, you have plans to go redside with him at any point? Not that it matters for the above, but just for general teaming.

This sounds really interesting. I'm running a BS/SD right now and I've wanted to get with a good group of people much similar to 'spartans'. Is this interest still going on?
