Year 7 needs a video... but what?
First: people coming together as a united front, supporting each other, and taking on much larger foes...
Second: the "lighter side of CITY OF HEROES"... in other words, humour. |

I'm always a fan of your videos. Perhaps you could highlite the ingame improvements with the zones, costumes, etc over the years?

Put together a St. Martial promotional video. Of course, you've got to have Slot Machine showing off 777

what about some kind of rundown of everything that has been added over the last seven years..
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.
If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-
Well, Year 6 sort of already includes that - it takes you through all the issues in the game, and you can see what's been added as you go (apart from the anachronistic segments showing stuff out of order, but no one's perfect)...

Hmm, if Year 7 is meant to be celebrating people coming together and stuff....maybe a focus on the various enemy groups that have got a thorough dugging up over the years by teams of Heroes and then Villains?
So, you could have;
Saving the Streets - Hero Section
Hellions
Skulls
Trolls
Outcasts
Vahzilok
Making a Mark - Villain segment
Snakes
Lowbie Longbow
Infected
Mooks
And then have sections for mid and end game, along with Praetoria maybe? And combined threas like the IDF and Rikti.
*shrug* You'll do something win, either way. Don't compare the short they had of the VG pack to your stuff, because your stuff is better by a mile, Michelle
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Maybe "out takes" from previous videos?
For example: on the STF there is a lighting technician that crosses in front of the camera setting Lord Recluse off (a Christian Bale spoof). The heroes rally to the aid of the technician.

Virtueverse: Bayne

Well, seven is supposed to be a lucky number isn't it?
How about a humor video centered around a lot of in-game luck?
Video starts with character finding a Luck inspiration only this one glows and seems much more powerful. The character pops it and things start happening... all the best aspects of the game start going right for the character all of a sudden..
* gets all the Luck of the Gambler drops, in order, from each member of the spawn he's facing...
* finds a temp item (gun most likely) that turns out to be a one-shot Hamidon killer
* happens to walk in just as a team has finished destroying the entire group of Lord Recluse's posse in Recluse's Victory but as the last of the actual defeating team teleports out up walks Statesman who gives the lucky character all the accolades and credit for the win..
And so on... of course at the end we can go sappy and sentimental and show him standing in Atlas Park... another hero walks up to him and greets him... then another... a slow draw back shot shows the entire area filled with heroes... all talking... emoting and basically interacting with one another... the final fade to black and we see the message... "Yeah... come to think of it... we're ALL pretty darned lucky... aren't we?... Thanks to the Devs for 7 wonderful years..."
Or something like that.
My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw
How about a weird inside out take on the movie Seven? Instead of the seven deadly sins, perhaps celebrate the seven virtues of CoX?

I think you should embrace the number 7 for this project.
Either do a CoH version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
or
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Whatever the seven virtues of COH are...
Michelle aka Samuraiko/Dark_Respite |
Charity - Greed
Chastity - Lust
Diligence - sloth
Humility - Pride
Compassion - Envy
Temperance - Wrath
Hmmm.. perhaps a theme could image of basically the canon heroes and villains who exhibit each of the virtues and vices. (bobcat is either lust or sloth, take your pick, my money says Scirocco's a dead ringer for Pride)
Edit: Actually, silver Mantis would probably make a better 'lust', i mean the girl gets off while fighting, is naked all the time, and revels in sensuality.

I'd do it in grey-scale and focus on the "shades of grey" that have been the centre piece of year 7 content (with Praetoria and the "only responds to power" Well of Furies.)
Patience, represented by a tanker.
Restraint, represented by a controller.
Teamwork, represented by a peacebringer.
Self-reliance, represented by a scrapper.
Overwhelming Force, represented by a blaster.
Versatility, represented by a warshade.
Awesome, represented by a defender.
I20 Trailer.

If you didn't have a theme in mind already, I think asking WW for one has only muddied the waters
Since Paragon Studios is running with the whole "Protect Your Primal Butt (I mean homeworld, of course heh heh)" maybe you could explore it too? Or just go for the comedy. It would work as well

First: people coming together as a united front, supporting each other, and taking on much larger foes... Second: the "lighter side of CITY OF HEROES"... in other words, humour. |
Perhaps Incandescent (in charge of Vanguard Herald) comes back from the UN for some meetings and takes Levantera, Borea, Serpent Drummer, and Gaussian out to lunch (or perhaps out for drinks after work), and they swap horror stories about new recruits and the pressures of their respective jobs. Maybe Incandescent (who has been mostly elsewhere lately) starts out with a "Do you have any idea how difficult it is to spin positive PR about some of these people?" take, and they keep coming back with stories about folks.
Serpent Drummer: "The enigmatic man called Serpent Drummer is the head of the Vanguard's Gauntlet division. The Gauntlet was originally Vanguard's offensive division, but changing events have seen it shift those responsibilities to the Shield Division, while the Gauntlet concentrates on coordinating Vanguard's forces with the recent influx of super-powered volunteers. Even in the middle of such great changes, Serpent Drummer remains serene." in public... Get a few drinks into him and he'll rant for hours about bizarre extradimensional horrors, people wearing stripes with plaid, ERP leather-and-chains fetishists, and "more machine than man, now" whatevers exclaiming "I c4n'7 w4yT t0 t3s7 0u7 t3h p0w4r 0f m n3w bodi!" But he's got to stand there with an only vaguely grim look like a Tower of London guard, except it's not just tourists, they're recruits. Whatever they are. (Intersperse with flashbacks of particularly weird character outfits doing paperwork, sitting in the training theater, getting rated on the firing range, doing pushups, etc.)
Why do they give you free gloves right at the start? He shudders. Seriously, wear the gloves at all times, if you've seen some of the things I have... they don't make bleach strong enough, some of the SOs that the poor quartermaster has gotten turned in to resell made the Dark Watcher go for the hand sanitizer, and he takes vacations in dimensions that would drive most of us mad. Well, madder. For the love of god, WEAR THE GLOVES. And a full body suit if you can manage it. (Gaussian is nodding all the while, and points out "I'm standing in a protective yellow circle with my hands behind my back FOR A REASON".)
Bonus: If Incandescent isn't present in visual form anywhere, you could hold a contest to design (the unofficial version of) her outfit! http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Incandescent has some info on her background and powers, but it's not clear what the source is, or whether she's been described or drawn in any of the non-game materials.
At the end, they're all back at work and Serpent Drummer heads out of the bunker door (possibly at Point du Hoc, with the ship in the background?) and there's all of the wacky and weird characters that we've been seeing throughout the video, now armored up in Vanguard-armor versions of themselves and lined up in rows, and he kind of shakes his head and straightens up and says something along the lines of "Wherever you came from, whatever you were before, we're Vanguard's Gauntlet now, hitting the enemy first, striking the hardest. 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he to-day that sheds his blood with me, shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition; and gentlemen in Atlas now-a-bed, shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks, that fought with us upon this day.' (pause for effect, everyone salutes) Let's get'em" and everyone flies / jumps / charges over the walls at the nearest pylon as things fade to black, and then fades into the Vanguard poster. (OK, I'd actually suggest Gen. Cheatham's famous "Give 'em h***, boys!" as the final line, but given the context, I don't think it'd be allowed.)

Anything humorous MUST include Kill Skuls.

Something like the Magnificent 7, a mock-up SG of seven people's characters showing them heroism in certain situations like the Tin Mage and Apex TFs or fighting against signature villains since the focus is on making us more powerful than the FP. Or vice-versa for a villain team.

I made one for Year 5, I made one for Year 6. Now we're up to the 7th anniversary of COH... and I'm at a loss. I contacted our esteemed overlord War Witch to ask her if there was something in particular she'd like to see as the theme, and her preferences were:
First: people coming together as a united front, supporting each other, and taking on much larger foes...
Second: the "lighter side of CITY OF HEROES"... in other words, humour.
But I'm STILL at a loss!
I could probably do CoVideoHell as the Year 7 video, for sheer humour and snark, but I don't know... (although a lot of folks who follow me on Twitter said they'd like to see humour for Year 7 as well.)
The playerbase was a great help for Year 5's vid because so many folks contributed to my 'Backstory' thread. So I'm turning to you guys again.
Following either of WW's suggestions, what would you like to see in a 7th Anniversary Video for COH?
(And yes, I'm sure that Black Pebble and the Creative Services team are going to do their own vid, too, and with their recent raising of the bar, I doubt I'll match it... but it's tradition.)
