We'll just have to agree to disagree on that.
But again, that's not really the point.
And frankly, I think I've belabored the point enough... It's just becoming tiresome and repetitive, now. Time to let someone else have the floor. -
Quote:People have just as much of a right to b**ch & moan about the mistaken perceptions of what constitutes a "necessary" team composition, as those who decide to play the characters that (unfortunately) perpetuate and contribute to those misconceptions.Kat - please dont think I'm attacking you personally, it's just that you seem to be the only one who has tried to defend this thread.
Also, the only reason we are focused on this particular type of character is because that's what the thread is about.
But the argument holds true for any AT.
Go to the tank forums, and you'll find complaints about tanks that don't take attack powers... go to the 'troller forums and you'll find complaints about why they don't take support powers... etc.,.
Go to almost any AT forum, and you'll find arguments about how one "should" or "shouldn't" balance "such in such" kind of build.
Why?
Because, most folks realize that a well balanced build will contribute more to a team than a limited, specialized build.

Quote:Highlighted the only part that I really agree with. So, What is wrong with people selecting an Empath/Secondary Defender, and mainly focusing on the Empathy set, and not getting anything for the secondary set?.
As your comment implys, That seems to be a problem? -- If people want to be a Pure Empath, or whatever else. It really is their decision, and they will still count towards a team.
How is that a bad thing?
It is indeed a player's own decision to create the character that they want to play.
That is not the point.
The point is, a "healer" is not an AT, neither is a "healer" a necessity for a team... It's a basic premise of this game that a team can be comprised of any AT combination.
A PLAYER who wishes to specialize their character by only relying on one aspect of their powers is certainly within their rights to do so. However, said PLAYER should also be aware that by specializing their character in such a manner, they are also limiting their contribution to the team. Not saying the contribution is unacceptable, just that it is limited.
Now, some leaders won't mind the limitations of a specialized build, but many others will. Then there are those who think such specialized builds are a necessity for the team, and they are very much mistaken. -
Quote:pssssst.... you know you can go to the Vanguard offices/RWZ tailor in Atlas to fix your costume now, right?Maybe place an ICON in there for those lowbies who messed up on an element of their costume and don't want to try and make it to the one in Steel to fix the error.
As far as different "looks" go, I like how the game already has distinct looks for each zone.
I would like to chime in with the "please match instanced maps with their exteriors". Entering a sewer or cave mish through an office door is very un-immersive. -

Quote:I don't see this thread as "bashing" a certain AT, but more like a certain type of PLAYER.... y'know, the kind of player who only focuses on ONE aspect of their character. I think this complaint would stand true for ANY archetype....why start a movement to bash a character that alot of longtime players enjoy playing ??
My main is Kin/Arch... and yeah, for the lower levels, she was mostly a heal-bot. But now that she's a bit higher, I'm using her other "stuff" more, and the heal less and less... FS, SP, BU/Aim, RoA, more pointy sticks, and Transference IF I see blue bars going down, and THEN heals... oh yeah, and cycles of sb/id whenever I can work them in. -
Quote:THAT...Rather than shrink the window down because it displays things you don't need to see, why not EDIT the tab to remove the things you don't want to see?

Quote:I got caught in an auto-repeat bounce message, which ultimately repeated so many times, it had to ban me from speaking for 2 minutes for "over-talking"
This "feature" is horribly borked. -
Quote:I'm sorry, I didn't say I had found an answer there, the other poster said they did. The other poster didn't divulge any further details, so I don't know what thread they found their answer in.I haven't been able to locate a thread that seems to be what I'm looking for. Can you give a link pretty please?
Try using the advanced search.
You can use keywords or phrases (like "base edit"), select a specific forum to search (Tech & Bugs, or Mac Users), and there's an easily missed box to check if you want the results as posts or threads (I like posts, personally).
Hope that gets you going in the right direction.
At the very least, you should come across the folks who had similar issues, and maybe you could PM them to see what kind of solutions (if any) they came up with.

Quote:This is also on the Consolidated Base Concerns thread (now stickied)."Clearer TP beacons PLEASE. I use an overlay so I can read arcane ones but it really is guess work"
I have returned to the game after a very long time, and I was hoping that there had been a solution to this.
...The rub is, you have to figure out which beacon stands for what zone. You can click on the teleporter to see which one, or click on each of the beacons. Other than grouping the teleporters alphabetically, or by levels, (Galaxy with Atlas, Steel with Skyway, that kind of thing.), I've yet to figure out how to know which one to use without just memorizing them. And, once I do, what about newer members? Must there be a learning curve?...
Please see my sig.

This was mentioned in the Tech & Bugs forums sometime last week... the poster said they ended up finding an answer in the Mac Users forums.
Wish I could be more helpful, but I don't use Mac. Hubby does, but he gave up playing CoH on it. -
I thought Mystic Fortune only lasted 2 minutes...?
And RobertoLyon, you forgot the cover charge.... 20 inf. per person please...
. -
Thank you Mr.H.
By all means folks, feel free to make a pretty linky to this thread in your sig.s.
Keep it visible when you're posting throughout the boards. Let it not be forgotten that base builders are still lookin' for some serious luvin'. -
alfredo -- The item restriction of 20,000 per plot was instituted because anything over that was causing bases to crash, and people were losing stuff.
So, it's not likely to change until (IF) they ever re-vamp the base editing system. -
Quote:Perhaps the Devs would be kind enough to start a base builders suggestion thread much like the costume thread, hosted by an actual Dev to communicate with. ....
In the two years that I have been playing this game and been involved in the base building community, this has never happened. At least, not in the manner you are thinking. Sunstorm fielded some questions... once... when he was "assigned" to us for i13.
The best we really ever got were a couple of community reps who took it upon themselves to communicate our concerns to the devs and act as go betweens (*toasts to ExLibris & Lighthouse*).
We DO have, and have had for some time now, a consolidated list (see my sig) of concerns and requests that the base building community has repeatedly voiced over the years... and I do mean years.
The list was started by Mad Scientist in early 2008 and he kept it updated until i13. I've recently updated it yet again. Make no mistake.... the Devs are aware of this list. They have been aware of this list for quite some time.
If they haven't made the effort to come to us by now, I have very low expectations of it happening any time soon. -
Quote:Doing this for me as well (WinXP).... When I start the game client, after the login screen appears the game client seems to freeze for a few seconds. Freeze as in goes totally unresponsive and the window greys out (under Windows 7). Maybe five to ten seconds later, the game client comes back and lets me log in. Still trying to figure out why this is happening, but for me this only happens at initial startup: the problem doesn't recur during normal game play (not usually as far as I can tell).
...
I have the game set for windowed mode. I've noticed that the little CoH tab in the tool bar will flash before "coming back", then the login inputs will pop on and I'm good to go. -
The ninja leap is part of the ninja run.
The catch is, you need to be lvl 4 to access it.
I've never gone through the costume change/tailor to apply it. Maybe someone else has a hint about going that route.
I usually just go to the "powers" tab (on your power tray), and select it from the list... it should be in there somewhere for ya.
ETA: dang, my fingers is slow... & I never used the leap emote, so didn't realize there was a separate thing for that. -

Quote:EDIT: What's the best way of getting ahold of a mod? I really hate to bother you guys with this topic/question, but I can't find any "forum help" areas. Thanks!
- Go to the Community Digest. You'll see a bunch of posts by our community reps.
- Click on a post by Avatea or The Ocho.
- In the post, if you click just to the right of their avatar name, a menu will pop up. One of the options will be to send them a PM. (This menu exists in everybody's posts)

The "lag leak" while editing in base used to be a progressive thing after about an hour, but now it starts within 5 minutes. I've mentioned this to Arbiter Kim in the past, but will try getting in touch with Arbiter Oats as well. Thanks.
-
In general, in any other business, "account must be in good standing" means 'paid up, active & current'.
In relation to CoH & beta invites, I suppose you could replace 'active' with 'unbanned'. But 'paid up & current' would also still apply.
just a guess -
Quote:I don't think Broom was trying to imply that... since the first sentence of their post wasEven if there is a memory leak with the game on it's own, does not mean a more serious one doesn't exist when combined with the above cards and drivers.
Quote:... isnt just from the Radeon Drivers. -
Quote:I think some of the folks who are colorblind drew one up some time ago... but I can't remember where it might be. Might try a search using "colorblind" as a parameter.Awesome! Thanks for that. You wouldn't happen to know if there's a color chart anywhere showing the hexidecimal values for the colors in the costume creator would you?
Edit: yay StarGeek! That chart's a good start. Do the names used on that chart correspond to the names on standard hex-color charts? -
