[AUTO-REPLY -- Chat Hidden]
Huh. I've only gotten that (since I17) when it was hidden - friend in Icon or a base editor, for instance. Are you set to hide in any way shape or form?
There seems to be a bug around with hidden statuses 'sticking.' I play a hidden character, and swap to another, unhidden one. A friend tries to chat, and gets the hidden warning throughout our interaction.
Likewise, on a character that was hidden on a previous session but is no longer, the same thing happens at times.
The way to solve this, I've found, is to to hide from all, then unhide again. This seems to reset the hidden status to a correct one.
There is also a bug, say two people in base editor....it will keep spamming back and forth until someone exits.
(keep in mind you can have chat open while in the base editor)
That message comes up if there is any other window in focus. Whether it's WW/BM, Icons, Base editor...It seems to be automatically generated when you have something else above the chat window in focus.
Personally, it needs to go. It's obnoxious.
We'll see....

LAME.
Ah, yeah that would explain it. I frequently talk while looking at the Team Member search window. I select names, and then requests to team....and since team window is open, it assumes i'm AFK?

I like the idea, but I don't like the way it was implemented. It's way too sensitive. I'd rather it only happened while working on fullscreen windows like enhancements, respecs, ID Card, Costumes. To go one step further, include that in the message: [AUTO-REPLY -- At the Tailor].
This is extremely annoying, wish they would either romove it totally, or change it to what has been suggested, I thought it was a bug for a while too...
It was a undocumented change (stealth patch!).
Got it documented on the Wiki: paragonwiki.com/wiki/Issue_17#Quality_of_Life_Improvements

This is really annoying for me.
Is there any way to disable it if you use the existing Chat tabs?
When I first make a character, I create a couple of chat tabs. One for private messages in the top right of my screen, and another for local, team, and emotes in the bottom right. I also have a tab for broadcast and rewards which I add to the top left box.
Then I shrink the standard chat window down --- it just displays too much stuff I don't need to see.
Unfortunately, CoH doesn't seem to recognize that my private chat window is always visible, it's just not selected, so the error bounce "Chat Hidden" message occurs whenever someone chats me.
Any plausible work-arounds?
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Rather than shrink the window down because it displays things you don't need to see, why not EDIT the tab to remove the things you don't want to see?

doesn't change
THIS
I got caught in an auto-repeat bounce message, which ultimately repeated so many times, it had to ban me from speaking for 2 minutes for "over-talking"

This "feature" is horribly borked.

THAT...
doesn't change THIS And why, if I'm the one "hidden", is the system spamming me with the auto message? This was happening to me the other day when I was in base edit, and the other person was not getting the auto reply, but I was. This "feature" is horribly borked. |
I didn't realize this was such a problem - I've only ever had it happen a couple of times while in my base doing some editing - and when I get out of the base editor, it's fine.
I don't LIKE that people messaging me get this message. If I don't answer you, then I don't answer you. No need for the game to tell you I'm somewhere with my chat window hidden... and certainly no need for the game to tell you where I AM with my chat window hidden as someone suggested it should. A person is never REQUIRED to answer a tell, and if I don't answer you, so be it - I'm sure you'll not suffer permanent damage.
This game allows us to track each other very closely as it is (some friends and I call the advanced global friends list the "stalker" window)... I don't think I need the game to provide an excuse for why I might not be answering your tells.

I'm having the same "problem" with anyone that pages me getting the [AUTO-REPLY -- Chat Hidden] message every. Single. Tell.
I've also gotten caught in the feedback/spam loop and silenced for two minutes, nevermind that I didn't actually DO anything as I could very well see my chat window.
I'm /hidden from searches on all my characters and I use tabs for my chat windows. I suspect the last is what's triggering this, ahem, QoL feature.
I agree that it would be handy if you're in a full-screen situation (the respec window or base editing without a chat tab overlaid). But is there any way to turn the darned thing off without having to mangle my chat layout? :/

I don't have an alt problem. I like trying new things.

It seems that since i17, virtually everytime I send a private message (which is often), I get this message tied to the response.
For example:
[Tell] -->Mental Monarch: Nice look
[Tell] Mental Monarch: (Thanx!
[Tell] -->Mental Monarch: [AUTO-REPLY -- Chat Hidden]
It's so bad, that when I once messaged another player asking for to join their team, I got caught in an auto-repeat bounce message, which ultimately repeated so many times, it had to ban me from speaking for 2 minutes for "over-talking"
What's causing this, and is there some way I can change something on my end to keep it from happening?
