I'm at 44.24 ranged in game. It's a little low but I'm not really willing to give up recharge to get it. It's close enough, and most ranged attacks don't hurt that bad compared to the big melee hits.
I'm happy with the build overall, but I'm just trying to tweak it upwards any little amount I can without dropping 2 billion on the pvp IO.
Pylon in 4:34, woo! -
This is the most fun I've ever had with a scrapper
I'm used to SR builds which run 180+ global recharge - I'm a recharge fanatic. I'd like to get a bit more into this build but I'm not sure whether it's possible without the +3 pvp IO which I don't *really* want to drop 2 billion on right now.
Things I've slotted for are recharge, some +hp, and as much regen as possible. Running about 27 hp/sec right now, which with the healing from siphon life (worth just under 40 hp/sec) keeps me topped off most of the time - I like doing silly things like 2 manning the ITF and soloing at +8/+4 which requires more than just siphon life to keep myself alive.
I don't have task force commander because I don't want to force my friends to haul me through positron, synapse, and sister psyche when i have all of two attacks...
Would love to get comments from anyone who has some ideas on upping recharge without sacrificing regeneration.
Alternatively, if I was to pick up the +3 def PVP io, what would be the best way to implement it into the build as far as removing slots? I would be inclined to drop the 6 slot gaussian's in focused acc and spread them around for some procs into attacks. Thanks!

You're waaaaay over the hp cap with dull pain perma'd. I would take the Eradications and Sciroccos out of head splitter and replace with 6 obliterations for another 3.75 melee defense. You have a lot of hp bonuses that really aren't doing you any good. That puts you over rule of 5 for the 5 recharge bonus so I'd move some things around, possibly change the crushing impacts in parry for something else. Also, if you drop the end/rech IO for the healing/end, you get another 25 hp which will let you drop more set bonuses with no adverse effects, and it only lengthens the DP recharge by 3 seconds, which is still well beyond perma.
I don't think you have enough recovery to be running as many toggles as you have turned on in your build. Not counting the +end proc in QR you only have 1.94 EPS (2.14 *on average* with the +end proc) for your attacks, and BS tends to be fairly costly. Are you sure you need both aoe's plus parry plus hack/dis/headsplitter? Taking the fitness pool is obviously not required for any character, but I don't think I could live without hurdle on any of my characters. YMMV, but that's just my opinion.
If you are going to keep slice and whirly, I would also 6 slot them with obliterations - assuming you have the recovery to use them (oblit has very little end redux) I think it's a far superior set to scirroco's with the +5 recharge (slot attacks differently) and 3.75 melee defense.
Hopefully this is of some benefit. Good luck! -
Hi! Welcome to the scrapper boards. Mid's is pretty overwhelming at first, I know it took me a long time to become proficient with combining sets and bonuses so you're well on your way.
However, your build is (not wanting to be snarky) something of a train wreck. I show you at ~40.4 melee, 39 ranged, and 39 aoe which is a fair amount away from soft capped. You've made some slotting choices that I'm not sure are optimal. Things you might not know about shields - Phalanx fighting's 3.75 melee/range/aoe base defense is unenhanceable. Unless you have a buddy who you're playing with who never moves more than 5 feet away from you, the normal thing to do is drop a lotg +7.5 recharge in phalanx and not slot further. You might be showing 1 target in range for phalanx - you need to lower that to 0 as the range on phalanx is very very small and if you're soloing it won't give you any benefits beyond the 3.75 base.
Also, mid's for some reason does not show the +3.75 ranged defense from phalanx so make sure you add that in.
The standard Dark melee attack chain is MG - Smite - Siphon - Smite. Shadow punch isn't a very good attack due to what we now know about activation times thanks for Arcanaville. You want to frankenslot siphon life for damage, endurance reduction, accuracy, and healing and (possibly) recharge, depending on the amount of +recharge you end up with in your build.
You should also plan on getting the accolades - at the bare minimum, atlas medallion and freedom phalanx. They give you extra hp and endurance which is very helpful. Portal Jockey and TF Commander take a while, but are also very valuable. You can add them into your mids build using the accolades button.
Here's a thread about DM/Shield builds I found a couple pages back - I recommend you take a look at it. It should give you some ideas as to how to better combine sets to achieve the numbers that you want. Good luck with your scrapper!

So many overpowered build concepts, so little time.... :P
-
Just a couple thoughts on this build...
If you swap the end/rech doctored in DP out for a heal/end it puts you further over the HP cap (since it's well beyond perma) and will allow you to drop some of the +hp sets you've slotted in various places. Also consider getting the task force commander accolade (ew, I know...). If you do both of those you'll be up to 2543 hp (capped at 2409).
I would then drop the two piece ToN in siphon life and swap it for 2x golgi.
I think the kismet +acc is probably overkill considering you have 30 acc from sets, as well as tohit from invic aura and soul drain.
Would also probably drop two of the LOTG's from invic aura and replace with Cytos. Probably the same for maneuvers and weave as well.
Looks like a fun build - I'd be interested to see how it plays against multiple AV's! -
It's 50 and IO'd now - The damage is very very good - FE to fences -> burn -> spin -> evis is amazing. Healing flames is really what carries the set - the resistances are pretty sub par. I have around 35 melee defense from IO sets/weave/CJ etc so it's fairly tough. Its weakness is anything with defense debuffs - things get ugly very fast if debuffs begin to stack. Endurance recovery is not the deal breaker I was afraid it might be.
Overall it's very fun, just requires a lot more attention than something like SR or Shields. -
Great, thanks for the input. I've always run hyper-recharge (180-190 global) builds so having 6 attacks will be a big change from running 3.
-
This is my first brute - I traditionally play scrappers, but fury is starting to grow on me.
Strengths of the build are... well... damage. That's about it. Fire doesn't provide much mitigation, and consume is pretty meh compared to quick recovery or energy drain. Elec Fences + FE + Double-stacked followup + Burn, Spin, Evis spam are really nice.
Things I'm worried about with this build - endurance recovery and not enough global recharge. I've managed to get melee defense up to 39 percent, coupled with semi decent resists and the excellent heal, I think survivability will not be a problem. I'm used to building scrappers with conserve power, so it's been a bit of a challenge working on endurance especially since there are so many places to slot obliteration (great bonuses, but very little end reduction).
Also, I'm used to running about 3-4 attacks on my scrappers due to high global recharge, so I skipped slash and shockwave and ball lightning. I just don't want 7 attacks that will need to be fully slotted, and I think that spin + evis +burn will be enough aoe for me.
No purples, yet - I will rework the build at some point if I like it enough. I'm not locked in as far as the last 3 power picks. I know I want fiery embrace, but the self-rez and temp protection I can take or leave.

I ran my DM/SR through the entrance to cimerora arc (rikti) at +4/+8.
It was a lot of fun, and required me to pay attention rather than mindlessly mash my attack chain and watch the numbers fly. Every single spawn can now be a rwz challenge! -
As I calculate numbers off of the power quantification on City of Data, I notice the following...
Battle Agility - 17.3 res def debuff (enhanceable) - slotted grants 27.25 debuff resist.
Grant Cover - 17.3 res def debuff (unenhanceable)
My question concerns Active Defense. It grants 21.625 def debuff (enhanceable) - If I slot a membrane and get enough global recharge to double stack it, will it grant (21.625*1.2 = 25.95)*2 = 52.9 debuff resist giving me a total of 97'ish res? What's the defense debuff resist cap for tanks? My SR scrapper has over 90 percent resist, so I can only assume tankers can reach similar numbers. -
Just managed a pylon in 9:53 on my dm/sr - 192'ish dps? How much dps do the fire or dm/sd builds do without AAO fodder?
-
Quote:My apologies if I sounded snarky, was not my intention to do so. You can use the configuration option in mid's to set your IO's to 35/40/30 or whatever level you like to get accurate values. My guess would be that setting them to 35 will not significantly change the defense values.Igor, thank you for the advice, but I'm not an idiot when it comes to claws. I've been playing one for close to three years now, only it's claws/regen. I may not be an idiot when it comes to IO's, but I'm definitely nowhere near the level you guys on the forums are, so you'll have to bear with me. I don't mean this to sound ungrateful, because I am, but I wasn't just trying to throw around influence and purples. I had a reason for them, though they may have been a little unnecessary.
The reason I slotted tough like that is because I originally only had 44.1% AoE defense. The resistance set gave me 1.25% buff to AoE defense, which put me over. The reason I have the defense so far over 45% is because normally, I don't want to end up spending as much as I would have to for level 40+ recipes, so I slot lower potency IO's, which tend to drop numbers in defense quite a bit when considering a soft-capped build.
Could you maybe explain why I should take out the damage IO in the Apocalypse set? Does the proc fire enough to make it more useful than the damage IO?
And your point on PB is very true, I had not even thought about that one. I had originally put that there when slotting it with common IO's. I usually do that first, then go back and move around slots.
Oh, and the reason I didn't bother to change the LotG set with the cap in regen is because I was going for the accuracy buff, not the regen in that one, and when I looked back I didn't see another defensive set that gave me that. I'd rather not have to run Focused Accuracy on a toon that will already be running quite a few toggles.
I saw the 1.25 aoe defense in the IO's you had slotted in tough. It's not a bad set but there are lots of places to get aoe defense. Some of the ones I like to use are 3.13 from 6 pc perfshifter (stamina, and perfshifter also gives tons of really nice bonuses like +rec, +hp, +damage) or 3.13 from 3 pc blessing of the zephyr (travel power or combat jumping). Most SR builds that I have seen take a power that will accept tohit IO sets and slot 6 gaussian's in them for the +2.5 melee/ranged/aoe bonus. Obviously you don't want to do this in follow-up since it's a power that you want to slot with some damage, so focused acc is a good option. You'd be using it for a set mule and wouldn't turn it on unless you were facing something like +3 rikti drones.
I suggest taking the +dmg IO out of apoc and replacing with the chance for negative energy because without the dam IO, you'll be at 89.92 +damage in the power which is just starting to hit ED limits. Slotting the proc (107.1 damage, 33 percent chance) increases the average damage of the power by about 35, which is significantly more than adding another damage IO - basically, over time you will do more damage.
As for +acc bonuses, they're good up to a point, but remember that followup will probably be double stacked most of the time which also gives a sizeable tohit bonus. As long as you can land your followups you don't need to focus on +acc from sets too much - I usually aim for around 30 percent or so, and most of the purple sets give +15 each.
Finally, regarding aid self... on my BS/SR I was continually frustrated by taking two big consecutive hits from AV's (marauder, you suck) and getting turned into giblets. Aid self gave the character the ability to take those two hits and remain standing. Conceptually, I absolutely hate the power, and it's incredibly lengthy activation... but I put up with it because I wanted to be totally independent of inspirations and team buffs.
Then I rerolled a DM/SR and couldn't be happier with siphon life, and it even fits into the character's concept. Yay!
Good luck with your claws! -
I think that if you want to solo AV's you need to pick up aid self. You're 5.8 percent over the melee cap, 3.8 over on ranged, and 1 on aoe. You've enormously overslotted tough. Elude is nigh useless to a soft capped build, drop it. I suggest hasten to clean up your attack chain. Take the damage IO out of the apoc set in focus and slot the proc. You don't need to put 2 slots into practiced brawler with the amount of +recharge you're running. You've exceeded rule of five with the LOTG set in weave - I suggest reslotting evasion with 5 red fortune.
For an "Uber" soloing build it looks like you've just haphazardly thrown around a ton of influence and purples. You may be able to pull it off with this, but you'll do 3 times better if you do some work on your attack chain and figure out what the optimal claws attack chain is, rather than taking some attacks, putting purples in them, and hoping that it will do what you want it to.
Here's a 10 minute mid's build I cobbled together. It's not optimized, and I don't know if it has the end recovery without CP to maintain an attach chain, but if you have this much influence hopefully it'll give you some ideas. I used a BS/SR to solo AV's before my current DM/SR project, and the BS/SR skipped a travel power to fit CP in - I wasn't really bothered by the lack of one, as SR is fairly fast and there's lots of portal stuff to help with travel now.

I have a moderately IO'd fire/kin leveled during 2xp (Yes, I know, FOTM, etc etc. If it makes you feel better, I feel dirty).
I spent about 10-15 hours this weekend farming a map for tickets. Picked up 9k tickets on each run in about 1 hour spent getting those 9k. Rolled Bronze and deleted the ones that weren't valuable and crafted the rest, paying Buy it Nao prices for the salvage (1 million for most rare, 100-200k for uncommon, 10-50k for common) . My goal was to keep my market slots full of IO's selling for 3 million each. I listed each at about 35 percent below the last 5 listing.
I would log the character on and check its auctions about every 4-5 hours throughout the day, refilling slots as necessary.
On Friday afternoon when I started, I was sitting on approx 700 million. This morning before I headed off to work, the character had 1.8 billion. I cleared 1100 million inf selling crafted IOs for extremely little effort.
Poverty eludes me, as well. -
Quote:I factored in the theft of essence proc into the cost of siphon life at the top.First off, you're discounting the Theft of Essence proc, which is going to generate .327 end/sec (the attack string is also 6.732 seconds, not 6.742). Secondly, Hasten is only 15 endurance every 2 minutes if you have it perma. It's actually 15 end every 126.5 seconds whenever you account for downtime for .118 end/sec. That brings the total end cost to 2.894 end/sec.
-
Another issue is that the DM chain (MG Smite Siphon Smite) sucks endurance like no other. Granted, you have dark consumption but if you're fighting an AV it will only restore 25 endurance every (with hasten) 62.3 seconds as you have it currently slotted.
With the endurance cost of your attacks as follows:
MG: 7.35
Siphon: 5.9 - (10*.2) = 3.9
Smite: 4.82
Assuming you had them slotted to run the chain as Umbral posted, their arcanatime activation times are as follows using (((Casttime)/.132) +1 & RoundUP)*.132)
MG: 2.244
Siphon: 2.122
Smite: 1.188
Giving an attack chain (Smitex2, Siphon, Smite) of 6.742 seconds duration.
The chain as you currently have it slotted will burn 20.89 endurance in 6.742 seconds costing you 3.098 EPS, plus accounting for hasten's end usage of 15 every 120 seconds comes to 3.22 EPS.
After toggles (including CJ and Tough, excluding Focused Acc) you will be burning 4.32 EPS - your build has overall endurance recovery of 3.35 EPS plus .2 EPS from the perfshifter proc (20 percent chance every 10 seconds to grant 10 endurance) grants overall endrec of 3.55 EPS, leading to endurance loss of .77 EPS.
If you're planning to solo AV's you're going to run out of endurance within (110/.77) 142 seconds. You can use dark consumption every 62 seconds but if you're fighting a solo AV or pylon you're going to only get 25 end per 62 seconds (average .4 eps) which still leaves you at a deficit.
I strongly suggest dropping focused acc or shadowmaul and picking up conserve power. Your build has 67 percent global accuracy from sets, and that's really all you need for PVE. Even if you're just using focused acc for a set mule, there's other place to put the slots. With a decent amount of global recharge CP can be up about 50+ percent of the time which will solve your endurance problems and allow you to do things like take 15 minutes to kill a pylon without ever looking at your endurance bar.
You can also slot practiced brawler with an end redux instead of recharge. It costs a fair chunk and you don't really need to double stack it.
I can post my build if you would like to see it, they're fairly similar with a couple of changes in the power picks. I slotted hecatombs into smite and added the cloud senses negative proc - since it's used twice as often as midnight grasp, I think the power is better suited to being proc'd. -
Here's my DM/SR - managed a pylon in about 15 minutes first try - I've been busy farming influence for another build so I haven't had time to try again yet.
Attack chain is standard DM MG - Smite - Siphon - Smite. Due to Arcanaville's awesome work on the server's clock timer, we now know that shadow punch and buzzsaw builds in general are not as good as was once thought. Also, Midnight Grasp received some shiny-ness in terms of a greatly shortened dot time and more upfront damage. Siphon Life also received significant damage buffs which make it do more damage per activation time than Shadow punch. I can show my napkin math if you would like to see it.
One purple set (Hecatomb) in smite, but you could swap it out for crushing impact if your budget doesn't permit the hecatombs. I agree that purples are generally overrated, but since I use smite twice every 6.5 seconds, the purple set allowed me to slot another damage proc for more damage output.

The tank was probably PL'd and bad.
If he didn't build for +movement and/or bring a kin, he was carried the entire TF so he could "omg, tank the last boss".
I have two level 50 tanks, both of them leveled the hard way - tanking for pugs. I don't have a stoner because at the time they didn't have much way to tank the way it should be done - leading the team.
Good tanks maintain situational awareness of what's going on around them, they know their limits, and they push them without overextending and requiring someone to save them. When I tank on my ice or my invul, I jump into the spawn, taunt, spread aggro with punchvoke, and make sure everything is on me like glue. As soon as the majority of mobs are down, I will use my aoe controls (energy absorb on my ice to drain endurance or whirling axe on my inv/axe to knock mobs down) and move onto the next spawn.
The tank's job, in the shiny new world where the controllers are defense capped, the scrappers are tanks, and blasters are gods of destruction, is not only to keep everyone safe. It's to keep the team MOVING.
When I tank on my invul, the mobs are grouped and clustered for the damage dealers to destroy. By the time they have finished with that mob, I am in the middle of the next pack, taunting and laying down gauntlet for them to kill the next spawn. I don't stick around for the bad empathy defender who feels the need to spam "GATHER FOR RA OR YOU'LL MISS OUT AND BE SORRY" every 90 seconds. If people need RA's then they'll wait around for him. I don't need them, so I'm in the next pack of mobs prepping them for destruction.
Like a poster said, scrapper envy is a dangerous thing. So is tank ego. Realize that you're not the only invincible person out there anymore and let people push their limits. Good tanks will be there to save them if they need it.
Sounds like you ran into one of the less good tanks, OP. He doesn't represent all of them, so don't feel bad about doing your job. Keep flipping out and killing things. I'd far rather be on a team full of BillZ's than a team obsessed with "not dying". It's way more fun, and if the crazy IO'd SR wants to charge into a mob without me and shockwave, more power to him. Taunt lasts a long time, and if he bites it, so what? The defender probably has veng =P -
I strongly suggest copying dasbert's build posted on this page. He's done his homework and it's what I'm using with a couple of changes. I cleared about 150 million in 2 hours last night, so it's definitely quite the moneymaker.
You've got some pricy uniques slotted out that I simply don't think are necessary, specifically the end recovery uniques. Transference will come up every 8-9 seconds with hasten and triple stacked siphon (you should have 1 acc and at least 2 recharges slotted here) and that will be more endurance than you need.
I also would not be caught dead without seismic smash. At the damage cap it will do 620-630 damage to a single target under containment as well as applying a mag 4 hold. I'd suggest dropping inertial reduction, taking 3 slots out of rock armor and 6 slotting it. 4 kinetic combats, 1 acc, and 1 recharge is what I use. Smashing haymaker also has a decent amount of s/l defense and is far cheaper.
If you're planning to farm bosses, you can easily drop a couple slots out of your imps. They're going to die on every single spawn because they're retarded. Every time i bring them out on a immob'd and debuffed spawn of mobs they decide to run off and bring some more friends to the party - they don't last long.
Consider picking up earth's embrace as well. I think that 1 heal and 2 recharges will perma it and bring you to the HP cap. Helps for when 4 bosses roll a two at once and hammer you for 1400 dmg.
Good luck with your character! -
Ok - so here's my completed projects for this last weekend - AE and 2xp were pretty silly.
The Claws/WP is for my wife - she has a DB/WP brute that she enjoys a lot but neither of us really like the ambience/feel of redside - plus I don't have a reliable way to farm cash with villains. This build is created to try to take advantage of wp's awesome layered defenses (+hp, regen, resist, defense) - I was able to get S/L defense to 30, resists to 52, and regen to about 65 hp/sec with 1 mob in range of RTTC. It's not a AV soloing build, mostly meant for teaming and blowing things up. It also lacks hasten, because she doesn't like it.
I didn't take shockwave - don't kill me Bill.

Code:Next is my DM/SR - this is for my own personal AV/boredom/get myself into trouble soloing purposes. I did a rikti pylon in about 15 minutes with it after getting the IO's slotted out although I'm sure I can improve on that. The random generic defense IOs are for getting the build over 45 - if i slotted all of those with LOTG's it would over cap on the +hp bonuses so I don't lose anything by doing that. Standard DM attack chain of MG Smite SL Smite, and CP comes up quickly enough that endurance is easily sustainable.| Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;1392;689;1378;HEX;| |78DAA5934B53134114857BC884403249C000810022CF00091352E5C2C7C285A8659| |96020023E7818420BD1D424954915B2F307B8D22AF15196BFC3F2A7F988F7DED361| |E3D2A9E47C333DE7F4DCE9BE537CBDE628F5E696B262B7EB15DF3F28575B956653B| |782C5CA71ADDA7BAFA14FCFBC90526AA87BE7A0A8EB5ABB643FF55317836BFA85F6| |7CEDEED4EAF566E354B706EF7B27BAA5BDB6DB3D714A8D46DD2DE84AB3E61DE3E26| |EADED69DF8F9A8BE39336DD0ACB55B9A9F551E24EB356757728D2F00E8A15BFAD5B| |67A354CC12FD6B5C951C9DA02A116654CF06B029B0CB02A74AC8AA7C46B0CD29CBA| |4B62C1EB23704BD65C015F42D0319C10EA52CA402160C6118C2302C270993EA25F9| |02A6A6006A7250530C35A551530EC5E450DA2B4A054D2AF8B3878762BF0403BF813| |F824B1D801F9155754A85E4553AC1D0739968E810C0B4234780168CE2914F28D58F| |37E9E91F96DA478704A901C1081922C610816102860918926488A25A151D97529ED| |2505CD6A763C71F8AEBF203A00014052BEB02EEA741F3BE835F086975E51CF8087C| |124C7F06BE49E5CF2895308525CE652552EF05D31F04BD641886410D2F4A2644434| |993496ECB16CD6E09E636040D328C9952C6B0AE7358E539ACF902766001FBB180DD| |794CA97133ED389A288D264AA38976C93069BA6C322643B361C152047004592CF04| |A5460516A0AC504A6D03DB3E89E15744F1EDD1320DF8C79FCCC55CCB78A36CC0BF6| |C9308F89ACF9ACACC43260D39D45135DC4C3B3D8DD2C7657D94A65CCEE667292E9A| |38C6B322E163E8715CFBF13EC9161D56456D16613F6C5C7493F3A54E19F91926DBE| |441AB16464CABEF838FFEBF8EE74E7E9DF0C933E62299158DB7CB6CBB2C797FB7C5| |66139E4CB2A9F757E38DD4AE3D7B8A0EB2C37586EB2BC6553284212617158A22C31| |9638CB004B82658425C5F295A5F3177DBDF099| |-------------------------------------------------------------------|
I used to have a BS/SR that I soloed AV's with, but after the DM buffs I've been wanting to give the set a try. My only claim to fame is that I did an all-scrapper TF on Pinnacle with 6 regens and BillZ a while back and we had a lot of fun watching the less-optimized regens bite the dust repeatedly.
If you scrapper gurus could take a look and let me know if there's anything obvious i'm missing, I'd appreciate it. I suppose I could get the pvp +3 IO and then drop a different set into soul drain, but I don't have the influence for that yet. Advice on optimizing the slotting for siphon would be great, too. I went for Damage/Heal/Endredx and let the build's strong global recharge handle that aspect of the power.
