  1. Now, hold up. Bobcat can kill just about anything without too much effort. The question you really mean to ask is, can a team of dedicated buffers keep a group of HVAS long enough for said HVASes to do their thing?

Perhaps. If we ditch the invisibility thing for a moment, what happens if the team members begin to participate? Yeah, I know, -8 and debuffage out the wazoo. I'm pretty sure you can't debuff inspirations. And, even if you could, floor Bobcat's accuracy. It takes more than 45% positionals, but I've been hard-capped on a PuG before. It can't be difficult on a dedicated team.

From there, the cycle aggrosinks. One person does some mean things to Bobcat, and drops Phase Shift, or something, and the rest concentrate on keeping the HVASes in the green. Yeah, I know this is a gross over-simplification of the scenario. You've got Neuron, and those two Goliaths, and every mob on the map, but the point is, this could be theoretically possible, I think, with some involvement. -8's a big hit, but that just means we have to get creative. Death is the best effect a player can inflict, but second best is no small thing, and that, we might be able to inflict.

Heck, even in Nova Praetoria the government can't keep the Destroyers off the street or the Resistance out of the sewers. That's in the very heart of the nation! And yes, I know about the conspiracy which allows the Destroyers to exist, but that's not the point. Such a conspiracy proves my point even clearer, since it means that Cole can't even control or trust his Praetors to do what he wants.

Praetoria is still a chaotic jumble of opportunities for the Resistance and others to take advantage of. If it wasn't we wouldn't have a game. So the Carnival of Light would be perfect for hiding in plain sight. Act and look outrageous, nobody is going to think that you are really the secretive and mysterious Resistance, especially after going to a show and getting subtly brainwashed to dislike the government while watching the jugglers and fire-breathers, etc.
I dunno. See, 'cause while Destroyers and Resistance members can run around the streets of Praetoria with little molestation, they're running around as small groups, and they aren't really carrying anything the can't be taken with them. A carnival, despite being created for travel, doesn't actually move all the easily, especially not once it's been set up.

Disclaimer: I'm speaking in time-frames of hours/days. A resistance cell could pack up and jump down a sewer to vanish. Time elapsed? Fifteen minutes. A circus? You're gonna need most of a day to get everything ready to go.

And, while I could see the existence of a carnival or a circus in Praetoria, as an independently contracted entertainment group, or a corporation, or something, I just don't see it successfully working against Cole without the secret getting out. Praetoria might have psychics actively looking to stop things like that, but they simply aren't good enough at their job for me to consider it a possible outcome.

I'm actually kinda surprised we got this far into the debate without that being mentioned. There is a DPS tracker for CoX. It didn't change a damn thing about how the game is played. Why? Well, 'cause, as said, the point where a player needs to monitor that kind of efficiency is far beyond the difficult of anything in-game.

It's also pretty easy to calculate DPS in this game. Whereas in That Other MMO, you've got your auto-attack, and abilities doing damage, and debuffing, and oh, dear Christ, look how much health he still has! So on, so forth. In CoX, you've probably got somewhere between four and nine attacks you're worried about. And the game gives you all the really relevant information, gratis. After that, DPS calculations are really just a matter of some basic math, no?

  5. I rolled the Mind/Psi Dom. I haven't had much time to play her, yet, but it's looking to be good times. Thanks, all, for the help.

Why a dominator instead of a controller?
  7. I just finished a Loyalist run through Praetoria. Good times. I want to make a Resistance run, and because I'm just a bit of a roleplayer, I want to run through as someone psychic. Ya know, on the run from the Seers and Tilman? Stuff writes itself.

Problem is, most of my experience is with various forms of melee characters. My loyalist was a EM/Shield brute, and that worked out wonderfully, though I suspect Fury helped greatly. This time, I want to run a ranged character, though I'd still like them to be able to hold their own, solo-like.

So, I'm looking for something. Something that has a psionic primary or secondary, that can take care of itself. Does such a beast exist in-game?

    Thanks in advance,

    Doom.

I, as well. Honestly, in the end, I'd have rathered we kept the boring textures, because while they might not be fun to look at, I can still play competently when they're displayed.

  12. My Katana/Regen still can't tank Hami without help...
  13. Dark/Dark defender.

I typically play damage-archetypes, with a focus on the melee. However, I was kinda enjoying the different priorities. Ya know, instead of killing things to help the team, or, if needed, killing them faster, throwing down debuffs and the like was pretty cool. It was also pretty cool how the whole team was trying to protect me, instead of how I'm usually on the outskirts of the group, almost doing my own thing.

And then, I ran a Synapse TF. Now, Synapse itself, I don't terribly mind. Yeah, end drain can be a bit obnoxious, but Clocks aren't too frustrating for a good team, and the whole thing can be steam-rolled, ya know?

'Cept, we weren't a good team. We weren't a mediocre team. We were bad. That sucker felt like it took ages to complete, but the kicker is, after we finally managed to get through most of the defeat-alls, the leader wanted to take the rest of the missions slow, said the XP was awesome. This, by itself, isn't such a bad thing, but several friends of mine were gearing up to run through something else, and I wanted to join them. So that tension was eating at me.

Now, on a melee toon I could've done something about this in rather short order. Make with the targeted killy-killy, and force the team through missions at a faster pace but simply moving them. Passive-aggressive? Sure. But it works. Dark/Dark wasn't feeling the killy-killy. No, I and my two attacks were feeling an awful lot like support. And that, right there, was not a good feeling.

So, yeah. Dark/Dark? Awesome on paper. In practice, I hear they're totally badass, too. I'm not actually going to find out, though, 'cause that particular toon's not getting past 25. A shame, too. 'Twas a good concept.

Will we ever be completely immune to damage, whilst simultaneously dealing at least one thousand damage per hit at no endurance loss? Yeah, I'm not seeing it.
  15. Were the drop rates changed? I picked up nine or ten from an ITF last night, which was much more then when I ran it during Beta.
  16. It would make sense. The Shadow Shard is a big ball of story hooks that are fairly significant to the CoX lore, but the place has been thoroughly outdated for a ridiculously long time. If they're waiting to revamp it for when they can drop this little bombshell, well, why do more work than you need to?

If it's the forums. Well duh, you're basically debating between RP styles.

If it's in game. RP with others?

Fact is, heroes who kill, the Frank Castles, in the comic book universe GO TO JAIL. Or aren't as openly known (which quite frankly doesn't go with the CoH storyline), and get away with it that way.

And those type of heroes don't tend to (notice I said DON'T TEND...that means it's not an absolute...lets get that out of the way now) team with the heroes who would take them in.

Though RPing that in CoH is just silly

There's also those who do the realism factor. Do you really think even with superpowers, people as a whole would go "Yeah, killing is great. Kill everyone." I say this, knowing you've mentioned you want realism, yourself.

Sure there would be a few of course, but as a whole, society tends to frown upon mass killing

    Even of criminals.
You say that, but if you can name a group of 'heroes' in real life who don't or haven't killed, I'll eat my shoes. It simply doesn't happen, because an extension of the willingness to use force to protect the public good, is that sometimes you'll need to use more force than a human body can withstand. This is acceptable.

Now, 'mass killing' is hyperbole, but you are right that there are repercussions to various force-bearing agencies utilizing this force, not the least of which is paperwork and bureaucratic review.

Of course, the real point to be taken is that killing is simply a possibility, and that while a person who chooses to solve every problem with death is... inefficient, a person chooses to never solve a problem with death is equally deluded. There are situations where killing nicely solves problems. There are situations where it only causes more.
