Who does Darrin Wade think he is?

I don't get this, why does Darrin Wade just contact you out of the blue. No specific badge or anything. Is murdering midnighters that big of a deal? I never do his arc, too evil for my tastes . Still though, what makes him so important to not need a badge to unlock him?

...He gives access to the Midnight Club, redside, which is how you get to Cimerora?

Does he give you access to the Club? I know his arc is where you come across the pasword, but it's Ashley's second arc that finally gets you in. Or at least I though.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

Nope.

Darrin Wade's arc rewards you nothing but a badge.

short version: gameplay.

Basically Darrin Wade was introduced as a Midnighter Club contact in issue 12: http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/gam..._hour_and.html

This was on May 20, 2008, which was about 2 and half years after the launch of City of Villains on October 28th 2005. The developers needed a way to get Darrin Wade to contact players, since getting to his arc involved going and visiting him, and he wasn't in the already established chain of arcs.

To fix the problems of getting to Issue 13, Darrin Wade was made into an auto-contact: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Darrin_Wade

So, that's why he contacts you at 20. Just a way to simply getting players to a new arc.

Nothing more, nothing less.

If it appeals to you, simply think that Darrin Wade heard you were a villain who got things done and wanted to work with you on a project of a 'equal profitability'.

The developers finally started realising that forcing people to do three to five paper missions plus a Mayhem just to get a legitimate contact was bad design, so they introduced all their new contacts via the "So and so has contacted you" pop-up, or by making them introducable by other contacts.

Darryn is no different from Pia Marino, Mercedes Sheldon, Ashley McKnight or Dean McArtur. I feel their way of introduction is far superior to CoV's original contact unlock scheme.

And they also thankfully seem to have realized that people don't like the "go talk to this contact whether you want to or not" method of introducing a new contact. We aren't being forced to trek across the Isles to talk to Wade if we don't feel like it the way the introductions to the PvP zone contacts (or Dave Wincott and Stephanie Peebles blueside) force us to.

As a random note: I still feel, even as a strong blueside player who would have to wait more levels for it, that the Darrin Wade arc would be the PERFECT way to unlock the Cabal hat.
*SPOILERS AHOY!*
Think of it: in one of the missions, you rescue a witch of the Cabal who tells you "The Cabal will not forget this act of kindness [character]"
Cue in the debriefing, or the mission after that, or even at the end of the arc, Darrin Wade says: "Oh, by the way, this came for you in the mail to me. I don't get what it means but maybe this means something to you."

Also, if they ever introduce a Japanese zone with villain access, the Oni totally needs to be an unlockable contact for that. ("The Oni are in your debt" he says...) Actually, hell, I'd love it if the oni's paid their debt by letting me have their awesome shoulder guards.

I was very happy to see these start to pop up, as I had previously voiced concern in the forums that sometimes, I didn't even know I had access to a contact. Unlockable red-side contacts specifically. I'd have long unlocked a contact with no idea that the contact even existed. In fact for a while I didn't even know CoV had unlockable contacts. That I learned from the Wiki.

Having these contacts pop up when they became available was greatly appreciated.

well, my hope (unsubstantiated currently) is that he will be the gateway to expanded shard content for villains. he clearly is linked to rularru, whom you clearly help at the end of the arc. so currently i see him as a stub, and i suspect a callback once the "coming storm" hits. also, for villains that really want to feel nasty, he is pretty villainous without being bossy.
