Up the difficulty setting?
Wow, that would be a little hard to take.
Cold/Ice Defender runs at +0/8 w/Bosses
Fire/Fire Tanker runs at +3/8 w/Bosses
Elec/Elec Tanker runs at +2/8 w/Bosses
My Defender might possibly handle +1/8 w/bosses, but my Fire Tank has issues with most +4/8 w/Bosses Missions Solo.
Im interested at seeing the level my SD/Axe Tanker will run at in later levels, and the Ice/Ice I need to roll up to prove a point to another set of players on the Boards. It'll be interesting to see though. -
Quote:Agreed. The only way id say that it would be a fair toss up, would be to find a Mob Type that wouldnt take additional damage from the Melee Sets of the Ice Tanker, or the ST Scrapper.AE might be a good choice for the timed mission. Of course depending on the vulnerabilities of the enemies the number could get skewed.
On another note.Ill be happy to spend some time leveling up a Ice/Ice Tanker and take a Video of it fighting.Dont exspect it to be immediate though, because I dont have a high level Ice Tank to prove my claim at the moment.
Ill make it a Priority.
New Dawn was more then correct in her AoE vs ST assessment. So im hopeful that my Theory is correct. If it is, then ill be happy. If its not, then it would mean I was worng, but that wouldnt be horrible finding out.
Id still get a high level Ice Tanker out of the deal. -
Quote:Well, I dont like to chase the Fury Bar so much.Id want more linear damage, and less having to worry about the Fury bar.If you have one, and only one wish for Brutes... something to enhance your brute gaming experience... what it would be?
For me, I would like Fury to last a little more, so I can accumulate it easier... I just cant keep it growing... never got it past 20% of the bar...
Whats you wish, Brutes?
Its the one mechanic I belive that could be changed for the better.
Up Brute damage accrossed the board, and make Fury give a smaller damage boost but enough to still have desirbaly high Fury.
Make them hit harder then Scrappers, but give them less to be concerned about when it comes to the Fury Bar. -
Im not sure how to answer this one, but for me its going to be a Plant/Thorn Dom.
I seem to have more control on my Earth/Earth build vs any Controllers iv played.I can also say the Dom im playing vs my Controllers have matching survivability, and my Controllers tend to Heal.Where as my Dom doesnt.
That says alot for my Dom vs my Healing and Debuffing Controller.
I have played a Plant/Rad Controller before, and could Tank decently, and solo decently.I would have no dout that when I roll my Plant/Thorn Dom that itll do just as good as my Earth/Earth Dom.
Id say for more over all capability, id go for a Dom.A Controller isnt bad either, but Doms make you feel like you are accomplishing something by having 2 roles on a team, or solo.
Control and Damage vs Control and Buffs/Debuffs/Heals.
Thats what you ask your self.Answer that, and you can pick with AT is for you. -
Well, im getting closer to getting my Pet for my Earth/Earth, and you guys are right, it no longer feels like a Blaster. It did at first at levels under 10, but now I can Tank a bit on this Dom.I notice my AoE Damage is a bit weak, but very good at midigating damage.
I have to admit. This Dom is rather fun to play. This is what I was looking for when I was playing Controllers but could never get.
Im looking forward to bringing this girl to 50, and starting up Plant/Thorn and Ice/Ice builds.
Now wheres that Electrical Control?<.< -
Well, for the most part, Tankers by design dont do more damage then Scrappers. However this isnt always true to that fact all the time.
I can honestly say that iv seen a FM/SD Scrapper in action. It was pretty impressive, but still didnt out damage my Fire/Fire Tanker in the same team.
His burst damage was nothing to shrug off, but the only thing that allowed me to out damage him (Provided he didnt crit), was only because of the dual BUs that I could trigger out of the mob before entering it for full damage along side a Blazing Aura that yeilds high damage under the BUs.
I noticed a bit that he would SC into the group, and I asked him why, he confided to me that he wont survive the alpha to get the buff and that he tried it before.
As for Tankers them selves, its very possible to match the damage output of damage of a Scrapper due to variables such as damage auras, exotic damages, and possibly lack of AoE vs what the Tanker can dish out in AoE.The biggest diffrence at that point is Crits, and no Tanker can match that.
My SD/Axe Tanker does Surprising Damage, but due to its being lethal Damage and lesser damage on its AoE attacks, a FM/SD Scrapper shouldnt have any issues out damaging him.Its all about what your build is vs the Scrapper, or the Tanker in question. -
-
Quote:Yes, I agree it would be faster on a Corr, but I perfer Defenders due to higher Debuffs.A Defender or Corruptor build that uses hover and has soft-capped ranged defense could solo any AVs that lack defense debuffs; this is primarily due to having -500% regeneration in the set. It would be far better to do it with a Corruptor, as Scourge offers huge DPS on big sacks o' HP. I really can't stress how much easier this would be on a Corrupter...
The only Corr I have is a Fire/Thermal because those sets arnt available for a Defender. If they where, it would be a Defender. -
Quote:Im realtivly new to Doms my self, but im no stranger to the Mechanics they use.Is ice control different on doms or something? It's usually considered one of the better control sets for controllers with all the soft control it has.
That's another question I had too actually, what are the main differences between the dom and troller versions of the sets? Looks like mostly shorter durations for dominators?
Others have suggjessted some decent, to good builds, but they arnt for everyone.
Im currently playing a Earth/Earth built Dom, and I do very well with this build, and it does alot of damage for my play-style.Many down the Ice Primary for Doms because its veiwed the same way it is for Controllers. As a lacking in damage Primary vs others that carry more weight with damage. So naturally, more people will suggjest anything in place of Ice Control for a Dom, which theres nothing wrong with.
I personally like the Ice Control set, and when I figure out which Secondary Assault set will give me the most AoE damage and will agree with my theme, ill be making a Ice Control Dom.
Its got alot of damage midigators in it.Powers that will stop incomming damage, if not lessen it is the best way to veiw Ice Control when I picked it for a upcomming Dom.
It would allow you saftly to get into melee range to use just about any Assualt set.The only trick is, what set will you choose if you go Ice?Fire Assault seems like decent mix, but im going to pass on using that one personally.
To be honest, a Ice/Thorn or a Ice/Stone would be pretty good to catch up on damage agenst the lacking Ice Control has. Many make mention of the Thorn's redraw if you use anything outside the assault set, but thats not not really that big of a deal in the long run when everythings flopping onto its butt, or confused, and just down right slowed to a crawl from your Ice primary anyhow.
Thats just my take on it.
Now that iv been thinking about it while iv been writting this post, iv decided to go Ice Control/Ice Assault for my second Dom.Its the only Combat set that has one of the prettiest attacks for melee.Ice Sword Circle.
Now just to come up with a Theme. -
-
Hi everyone in Blaster land.
Iv noticed that Blasters get the shortest list of Secondaries to any AT in the entire game.It keeps me from bothering with Blasters personally, and why im more drawn to Defenders because of there broad Primary choices.
Id think giving them a few more would be nice, not to mention that theres a few id personally want to use on a Blaster.
The following sets are on my wish list for Blaster Secondaries.
Martial Arts
Dual Blades
Katana
Claws
Thats just what id like Personally.
Anyone else feel there arnt enough secondaries for Blasters? -
Iv already got a Claws Vanguard themed character in the mix, im curious what others could be thought up?
Id like to avoid making another Scrapper, any wouldnt mind a little help with this theme issue. The vanguard are my favorite group in this game, and im very aware that this theme build isnt something new.
Its just something id like to do to add to my other Themes. -
-
Well, I cant says I understand Higher levels of Doms very well, because I havnt teamed with one, or played one past level 10.
This build however I really like.It feels like a Blaster that uses Rocks instead of Energy, a Gun, or Fire, ect.It feels Earth Shattering!(Pardon the Pun.)
Has anyone got a pure Earth Dom?Im curious about its play-style at later levels.
Side Note : Please dont suggjest what powers to take, and what not to take.Iv already mapped her out for percieved Balanced performance.
Im curious if my Theory on Volcanic Gases giving me a 30 second window of pure murder on a mob is correct or not? -
Quote:Thank heaven someone else said it before I did.Free Form Archetypes would be a very bad thing because you either make it so everyone can be increadibly broken (the possibilities I could come up with would be mind shattering), or make it so that every power functions exactly the same but simply has different graphics (Champions Online). Either way the gameplay suffers, and when the gameplay suffers everything else becomes secondary in a hurry.
Champion's Online was horrible.I tried it, and had the same response to it as I did Ever Quest and WoW.Played it for less then 2 hours, didnt like the mechanics, and cancelled it.
These games do as well as they do, because of Eye Candy.Nothing more. -
Quote:I soo totally dont know if this is a joke or not....if it is, I think I get it..if its not, then you obviously havnt paid much attention to the majority of CoX players being Min/Maxers and Power Gamers looking for a mechanic to break to make the game easy sause.Obviously the real reason people would want this is to complete their roleplaying concept.
It would never occur to them the power combinations they chose would allow them to decimate all enemies in the game without any inherent risk to themselves.
No really, it's just that I have a rp concept in mind. -
Quote:Well, im someone else who doesnt like Brutes.I have the exact same problem, I started with a tank, moved to (and love) scrappers and can't enjoy either a brute or stalker.
Imho stalkers are too different in how they play, and I hate attacks like AS that take ages to animate (Plus I actually hate all the AS animations themselves) so I don't think they are a good match to scrappers/tanks as you might think.
Brutes on the other hand are affected by fury, which is a mechanism that some love, but I personally hate, and it might be this that gets to you too. What I hate about fury isnt the fact that you need to always keep moving (Though I do dislike it whenever i make a cup of tea and have to build it all over again) but it is that you do sod all damage until you get it high. I personally find them the worst hybrid of tanks and scrappers that the devs could have made, though I know my opinion doesn't match up with most peoples, you could well be in the same boat as me.
I have a Brute only because I cant get the EM/EA Combonation on a Tanker, and its a theme deal for me.
I never worry about my Fury Bar with this build, and I treat him like one of my Tanks because the Fury mechanic bugs me to no end.
I may acctually remake this Brute into a Tanker, which wouldnt be the first time iv done that.I remade my level 24 Axe/SD Brute into a Tanker and couldnt be happier,If I remake the EM/EA, I am not sure what armor set ill give him.
Prolly be Invln/EM.It wouldnt have the same impact on my theme as the EA does, but then again, it seems like Brutes and Stalkers are getting more love then Tankers are when it comes to sets.
I cant really deal with many scrapper builds. However I do enjoy a Spine/FA or Spines/Elec build. Not for Min/Max power gamming, but for the theme I can place with them.
I currently have no Scrappers though. -
Quote:Considering I have 5 red bars, Ill jump up and tell you off the bat it wasnt me.You can if you read the little balance scales under your posts. I don't really care about rep, but I noticed mine had gone down, so I figured it was for this thread. Sure enough, there it was.
I only posted it in here, as I think no one should struggle under the misconceptions that negative repper did. Fiery Aura isn't a Stone Tank in Granite, but it does just fine for tanking in game.
I dont even know how to down someones rep, and im too lazy to figure out how to turm my Rep Bars off.The same person who upped me 2 bars after posting 1 time is known to me.
His name is Lucky666.
This is prolly also the same person who down repped you.
Also, your the one person who's defended my statements on the capability of a Fire/Fire Tanker, so in my book, your alright. -
Quote:What About adding additional Range Enhancers to the Fire/Rad Build?Wouldnt that do the trick?Long Range Roasting?Fire/rad isn't a bad choice, but bear in mind that immobs won't actually prevent the AV from beating you senseless. Like I said, you're going to need a plan B other than "mez AV, get candy".

Ok, iv been making alot of Alts latly, but I play every one of them, and all of them are levels 26-36, and im wanting to make sure they all ding 50 around the same time.Heck of a task when I keep making alts...
I think my creativity is getting the best of me.You see, I my self am a artist, and this game helps cater to my creative impulses.
Side Note : Yes, im a artist, and its why I tend to be a little off in terms of how I think vs everyone else.I belive I think perfectly, but the majority of the population would dissagree just for the sake of it.
I grew up playing D&D, Star Wars, Pallidium, and Rifts Pen & Paper style and have even written stories, as well as drawn pictures of characters iv made before.
It goes back as far as me being 12 years old playing Star Wars.I still have, and use names and themes back from those days, and have a enormous list of characters, pictures, and back stories, as well as even writting out full personalities of my characters on top of all of that.
So this is kinda why I tend to attack people who down power sets, and use Mids on this game.I was litterally raised playing Roll Playing games and Video Games, so my perspective on Cookie Builds, Power Gamming, and Math Programs like Mid's irritate me because it defeats the purpose of a game as a whole in my eyes.
So I guess I owe alot of people a apology when it comes to this issue, mainly because I just dont think in the realtive terms of Power Gamming.I do however play on Theme, and Maximize my Character no matter what its combonation turns out to be.
By playing the way I do, I can easly take power sets people down for whatever reason, and make it shine like a new penny. So its not easy for me to understand why everyone suggjests the same things, over and over again and find it fun.
Hence why I babble on about how I can make a FA/FM Tanker a Mob Wiper at +3/8 w/Bosses solo.Because iv exsplored the potential of the build, instead of putting the power sets in the same class as other Tanker sets and combos, and made my own investigation instead of listening to the bad things said about it.
This by no means makes me smarter then anyone else, it just makes me veiw things in a diffrent light.
So far, my Atlitus has getten me into Themeing out my new account.
Iv made my Elemental Witchs. You know, the Four Corners?Earth, Air, Fire and Water?Iv been alternating between all of them ,and find them highly survivable, and extreemly fun. These are also builds that are more or less not played for whatever reason people give.
They are as follows - (Names will be replaced with what kind of Witch they are, followed by power combonations and AT.)
Earth Witch - Earth/Earth Dom
Air Witch - Storm/Elec Defender
Fire Witch - Fire/Therm Corr
Water Witch - Cold/Ice Defender
These 4 use as close as I can get to there acctual powers in this game,as well as how they looked as they where when I created them over 10 years ago for D&D when I was GM to give my players a challenge.
The names I gave them are the same as well.
Then I started just recently making 1 person, over and over again. The reason for this is that you cant change power sets in this game, but you can give the illusion of it by re-making a character with nearly the same look, if not the exact same look, and diffrent powers and playing it off as slipping into another Suit of Technology, ect.
I Made my Gadget man, who's name will also remain unspoken on the boards, like many do anyhow.
He has many various suits of technology. Each with a diffrent look then the other, as well as having diffrent abilities for each one. This character I made back when I was 14.He was originally a X-Wing Pilot in Star Wars I was playing, and over the years through writting stories on him, he evolved into a type of gadget making techno geek.
He has his first name on every one of his Clones, same face, hair color, ect.The only diffrence is his Tech suit look changes, along with his power sets and last name. This character is by far the easiest to put into CoX.By using Techy Suits, he can use whatever excuse I give him for whatever his powers are by just saying its technology and giving everyone a rassberry.(Rassberry is slang term for sticking your tonge out!)
The following have been made as techy suits for my Geek, and again the names will not be placed, instead what the suits called.
Defensive Suit - SD/Axe Tanker
Reverse Cryo Suit - Ice/Ice Tanker
Fission Cell Suit - EM/EA Brute
Tesla Suit - Elec/Elec Tanker
All again are rather fun, and I have no difficulty playing any of them.
As you can see, im a Fanatic in the opposite direction of most everyone else in why I play this game, and I could give tons more Examples but I think everyone gets the general Idea.
I maximize for Theme, not for max potential for 1 Combo specifically is where im comming from.
So I apologize for attacking people for there use of Mid's, and Cookie Builds. This is not a Attempt to be Snarky, or underhanded in any way.Im acctually Apologizing. -
Back about a year ago, I tried a Stalker, and I wasnt totally thrilled with it, and it was rough trying to get a team because people wanted heals or AoE damage red side, so I started making teams of Stalkers.
Its acctually amazing just how quickly a Stalker Player learns to team with other Stalkers. After mid way through the first mission with 7 Stalkers on the team, we started gathering in the mob and almost as if we where mind linked, we would all start mentally watching each other to pick a seprate target and each of us would fire off our Assassin Strikes.
That was prolly the most Zen like experiance iv had in this game, and we dropped mobs in short order. The remaining Baddies left from our starting Alpha was met with a flurry of pain, and after all lay dead on the floor, all the Stalkers would dissapear once more, and all would go silent.
Then the Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth Started again, and not 1 Stalker died during this all Stalker team.
Makes me wish for the good ol days. -
I tend out damage Super Reflex builds, and WP builds, Regen Builds, ect.
These builds commonly use mainly ST Primaries, like Dark Melee, Katana, Martial Arts, and Spine Builds that dont have a Armor set that gives additional AoE potential or a extra BU with FE from FA are on this list of people I out damage on a Fire Tank.
I will have to agree that there are terrible scrappers, not simply because I can out damage them, but anyone who would take Katana, or Broad Sword and not take the Whirling move really needs to evaluate there role as a Scrapper. That also goes for taking Martial Arts and skipping your Dragon's Tail attack.
Those single easy to use AoE attacks amount to alot of damage in a mob situation, and people skip them.
Whats even funnier is when I see a high level Scrapper that took Fire Armor or Elec Armor and they never take the AoE damage aura.
Alot of people build for ST damage vs AoE, and thats where my Fire Tanker Excells, and isnt a slouch in the ST department either. Its very common for people who play Tankers and Scrappers to build like they would a Brute.Primarly in ST damage to get the most out of the fight, simply because Brutes dont get much fury by just jumping in and destroying a group fast.Hence why people rave about a DM/SD Brute vs a Elec/SD Brute, and why theres a hell of alot of Elec/SD Scrappers, because they dont have to build fury, and theres no Cap stopping that damage.
If you cant do damage on a Tanker, your either a highly Defensive "please punch me in the face 100 times" build, or your not exsploring your potential in other sets for Tankers.
Im starting a Ice/Ice Tanker, and at later levels, he also can and will out damage a Scrapper to a lesser degree then my Fire/Fire Tank can, and at most keep up in damage most other times vs the Scrapper builds iv mentioned earlier, simply because of high amounts of AoE that the average Scrapper doesnt take, and cant keep up with.
Making even a Ice Tanker better for overall mission damage then that Scrapper, because even if that Scrapper kicks that bad guy in the face for 250 damage and Crits for +250, the Tanker that just hit the entire mob of 16 Baddies with 120 damage from Frozen Aura just effectivly dished out more damage then that Scrapper did because he hit alot more targets.
This seems to be a concept not alot of people pay attention to, but I may have found a way to exsplain it a little better.
People that play WP/SS Brutes and Tankers say life is so much better with Footstomp and Rage.Cant deny that being true at all, but a Ice Tanker can match that damage, and a WP/FM Tanker version can dish out more damage then that.
Yes, Footstomp knocks things down, great, awesome, but who cares if your on a WP/ type build? Its not like that mobs going to destroy you if you dont have that power. Its seems to me, that a Ice/Ice can keep up with, if not out damage a WP/SS Tanker in AoE damage.
Why would I make such a horrible claim?Simple, because if you look at the damage over time vs both builds, the Ice Tank build can drop larger amounts of Baddies faster then the Willpower build. While the WP/SS Build excells at single target damage that the Ice Tanker is only so-so at.
Thats why my Fire/Fire does so much more damage then the common scrapper, because while that Scrapper hits 1 Target for 300 Damage, I just hit the entire mob for 250+ in that same mission with 1 attack.
ST builds are great for Brutes, but atleast that Brute usually takes 1 AoE to capatalize on the Fury Bar, and if they dont, then no wonder they want soft-capped defense. They cant survive without it on a ST build without help. -
Quote:Yeh, but thats ok with me, I cant really get into Scrappers much either.I hope they prolif Broad Sword to Tankers.I dont see why they havnt already to be honest, considering they gave it to Stalkers.Yeah, this isn't going to be true so much as Proliferation continues, but in general Tanker Melee sets have been slower, with higher recharge but greater damage per hit. Stone Melee, which is known to be strong overall, is probably the best example of this. Due to the nature of attack chaining, this means overall a slow recharge set does more DPS - but costs more End as well.
That's what's compensating for your difference in damage between Tanker and Scrapper. If he was a Broadsword, it might have been a bit closer. And likely a one on one comparison between Axe Tanker and Axe Scrapper, should it be proliferated in the future, would likely show a definate advantage for the Scrapper.
I dont see Claws as being a very Tanky Set, but they gave it to Brutes, who can tank better then Scrappers can.
So far, Axe works fine on my Tank, im just bugged that I have a sattelite uplink that keeps me from zoning, or loading missions very fast.Getting my Ritki Axe will be time consuming.Unless theres a unforseen Ritki Month again, at that point it wouldnt be so bad.
My biggest gripe, is that alot of Scrapper and Brute Primaries arnt allowed for Tankers. As iv stated before, im not really into Brutes or Scrappers.
Chasing a Fury bar and trying to keep a full Blue bar without playing WP as a Secondary for a Brute makes the fun factor of them go down for me.
The crit system is great, when the crit acctually goes off, but when it doesnt, I commonly out damage Scrappers, and Defense build Tanks with my Fire/Fire Tank, so theres no real point in hoping for a crit in my eyes.
Id very much like to be running around on a SD/BS Tank right now, but Axe will have to do, considering they favored Stalkers over Tankers this time around....Bastads... -
Quote:So, at a setting set for 8 on mobs, and a -1 or a +0 WITHOUT BOSSES, it wouldnt work?Hmmmm, im not so sure about that one.Ice is, arguably, the lowest damage controller primary, just slightly less than Earth Control. It takes a lot of effort to make an Ice controller able to solo, and then it isn't very fast. The AoE damage from Frostbite is not enough to be worth mentioning. Chilblain slotted for damage and Air Superiority gives some single target damage, combined with Containment from Block of Ice can allow you to take down single targets over time, but it takes a while. The Cold secondary provides some decent -Resistance from Sleet, but no additional damage.
I would certainly say that an Ice/Cold controller is great team character, but will be a very, very slow solo'er. The APP sets can help a bunch, but that is very late in the career of the character. Ice and Fire can provide pretty good damage.
MAYBE IF I WRITE IN BOLD PRINT PEOPLE WILL READ IT?
Maybe not.Either way, 1 AoE, is more then enough at that solo setting, because of Containment, and as for being shot?As it stands right now, I dont see how much is going to attack you with there recharge floored, and if it does, you could be smart and say, I dunno, GET THE MEDICINE POOL?!DUH!
Plenty of time to heal when they rarely attack in the first place.
By the way, read Sleet. It states at level 50, it does 25 base damage, which isnt much, but certainly not not 0.Hows that for nit-picking?
