Your client is still talking to the server. If you are in your base then your base is running as an instance, just like most missions, in their server, taking up resources.

I would say it's a parody name based on Red Skelton with maybe a Red Skull homage thrown in there. Depends if the costume is a sad clown.
Reminds me of a parody name I saw way back when, John Travoltage. -
Little down arrow in front of a thread's title will jump you to the first unread post. Also there is a "View First Unread" link right under the "New Reply" button at the top of each thread.

And it's already available to various developers, partners and beta testers.

Quote:Depends on the powersets. For primaries I don't see a lot of difference between Katana and Broadsword but Dual Blades does play differently due to the combo system that power set has. Martial Arts is all about kicking and Super Strength is generally about punching. A few primary power sets have a short range attack or two.If I just made another scraper and change my style will my game play change?
As for secondaries they tend to be centered around one of the triad of damage mitigation, avoiding being hit, resisting damage if hit, healing damage faster than normal. Shield and Willpower combine two or more of those aspects at a lesser strength.
Quote:whats a good solo/group arch
For soloing nothing beats a scrapper or brute for raw in your face bashing. Tanks my not finish an enemy of as quick as a scrapper or blaster but if you enjoy surviving within a mob of bad guys they can be fun to play. Masterminds in CoV are a team all to themselves but managing all your pets effectively takes skill. I say the least solo friendly AT is the controller, with the exception of an Illusion controller, they can be quite fun to play.
Quote:I was trying to make a defender, but he is so weak and I cant find a team, how do I level them and do they get more easy and soloable with down the road?
Defender attacks are weaker than their blaster counterparts. It's to easy to think of a defender as a lightweight blaster with heals or a bit of mob control. Then do play very differently and if you play them like a blaster or scrapper then you are going to suck pavement/grass/carpet often.
Dark and Rad defenders are easier to solo due to their ability to debuf the enemy. Kinetic is nice as well for solo or team. Force field and sonic are tougher to solo with because their big buffs are teammate only are better in groups. -
You've never had 1.5Mbps (MegaBits per second) DSL then. 10 hours translates into 75-80 KBps (KiloBytes per second).

Then you aren't looking hard enough because there are dozens of threads on multiple boards complaining about the broken dev and community digests since last Friday.
Personally I now have most of the community mods and devs selected as contacts and through statistics in each of their profile's bring up a list of their posts and go from there. It's no way as convenient as the digests but until they've come up with a fix it, it is a working solution. -
OK, I'll bite. Game companies have nothing to do with driver development. Game developers write their code targeting either OpenGL or DirectX APIs that are provided through the OS. Driver developers from nVidia, ATI and others write their drivers to bridge between the OS and the hardware.
Now due to the over competitive nature of the video card market, driver writers try to provide optimization of calls from the games most used as benchmarks to squeeze the last frame per second out to look good in the benchmarks. nVidia and ATI may provide technical help for a game company to tune a game's rendering engine by providing deep insight while a game is being developed.
But to say that "Cause the BIG TIME MMOs have not updated to the Beta Drivers" makes no sense. Game companies don't write drivers. Game companies don't care spit about drivers except when a new one breaks or an existing one isn't working correctly relative to whatever 3D API spec the game developer coded to (basically showing the game performance in a poor light which then may affect sales).
Yes, I agree that the drivers available to a yet to be released OS may have issues and there is time for the big GPU manufacturers to put out a few more driver revisions before Windows 7 officially rolls out. Perhaps future drivers will resolve CuppaManga's problems and others who report exceptionally poor performance. Neither case is universal as there are a number of people who have no issues. -
Quote:Well if you don't mind doing a total format and reinstall then it doesn't matter. There are conditions where Windows 7 won't need a format first but it's a mixture of what OS and license you currently have on your PC and what version and license of Windows 7 you purchased. As for Dx11, are there any major games that are even using Dx10.1? And the news of Dx11 GPUs ship dates are rather muddled. I wouldn't worry about Dx11 for a while. Thanks for the input everyone who replied. Been doing more reading and research.
Also got a suggestion via email from a friend to wait till windows 7 actually ships and wait on direct X 11 cards. What do folks here think of that advice? After six years on the same mother board and a busted old optical drive (figured I'm replacing the machine soon, why buy a new drive now, right?), I'm itching for a new machine. Is it worth putting off this purchase another 2-5 months?
Quote:Things I can eliminate from my purchase: no display needed. no sound system. on board sound will be fine for now.
Big question: what do people think of SSD's? Are they worth the $300 or so dollars? With gaming where do you notice the difference? i.e., do CoX zones load almost instantly relative to a traditional hard drive? Any experience how these things work with graphics applications, like hi-res photo editing? Do 30 meg images open in an instant? Or is that more of a RAM and processor issue these days? (If I got an SSD I probably would also get a 1 or 1.5 tb drive for swappable storage. In my non superheroing life I'm an artist and sometimes work with some heavy files, both for myself and for clients.)
Quote:Early conclusions: I definitely want a motherboard that can be expanded over the years. I'll likely be going with just one video card. (If you do two cards using crossfire (is that it?), do the cards need to be identical? I've read decent things thus far about that nVidia 285 and 295. but are they just not worth the price point currently? My thoughts were to maybe buy one this year and later when they become "lower end" as new stuff is introduced, buy a second one.)
As for buying a motherboard that can be expanded over the years, well future proofing a motherboard is getting tougher all the time. Don't expect any faster CPUs for the Socket 775 motherboards, Intel is going with their Core i5 and i7 series (note here, not all i7s will be socket 1366, thank you Intel marketing for obfuscating the issue) for their new mainstream CPUs which will be hitting the market shortly. USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 is right around the corner but PCIe V3.0 is now delayed. AMD's Socket AM3 should be stable for a few years but you still have the SATA and USB improvements coming soon. The only thing I can safely say is DDR3 isn't going anywhere in the foreseeable future. There will always be new motherboard technologies right around the corner, you just have to realize that whatever you buy today will be obsolete (well, not have all the latest and greatest technologies at least) within 6 months and suck it up.
Quote:Again thanks for all the input thus far. Sorry for the lack of structure in my questions above. Shooting from the hip as I feel my way through this. Though I can manage with it, hardware and selecting the right stuff is not my forte. -
Quote:Oh yes, the one you currently have, not the one you ordered. Sorry if that wasn't clear.Just to be sure, the sad excuse for a 500W PSU was the one I already have?
The Corsair 550VX is a nice PSU with 41amps at 12 volts and will easily meet your needs.
Sorry for the confusion. -

Like, I don't know what "lft" is. I've seen AT and PL . . . and I'm lost!!! -
You would be surprised by how difficult it is to plug the final bit of "falling through a floating point singularity" in a way that doesn't substantially slow a collision detection algorithm.

And usually at some point, in CoH at least, you will be offered the other contact as well.

I think some may have thought of it as a nerf because the other tier 1 and 2 powers were normalize to the Ice power sets so Ice wasn't as uber in comparison anymore even though the powers themselves didn't change, just every thing else was to match them.
-
There was this announcement two years ago and nothing about CoH in particular. Not much news since then.

Nice, start by insulting our Mac specialist but tack a disclaimer on the end so you don't appear to be a complete [self censored].

Perhaps the use of "Irregular" or "Unexpected" instead of "Random" would have been more precise. The phrase "Random downtimes do suck for players" could be read by some as implying this latest outage was not announced thus supporting the various rage/game going to heck posts.
Personally I wouldn't neg rep anyone unless they are factually wrong. -
First you can't add the two rail amperage amounts together. One rail is current limited at 14 amps, the other at 13 amps. Nowhere does it say you can pull 27 amps of 12 volt current all at once.
Second the 26 amp recommendation is for the whole system and not just the graphics card.
Third that PSU doesn't have any PCIe power connectors, you will need two spare old style hard drive power connectors and the adapter included with the card to properly power it. That PSU only has three MOLEX connectors to begin with.
In short, it's a sad excuse for a 500W PSU. This PSU after the rebate is a very good value on a very good PSU. The combined 12 volt amperage is 36 amps (432 watts).
As for the video card. Depending on how much memory you have and if you are running a 64-bit OS or not, a 1GB video card may end up limiting the total amount of memory that would be available for software. If you are running with 64-bit OS or a 32-bit OS with only 2GB (or less) then it shouldn't be an issue. Otherwise that 1GB of memory will displace some of the memory installed in your machine.
Edit: Oops, just noticed the OP already went ahead with the purchase. -
For $2K I would lean toward a Core i7-920 (or whatever is the current low end version is) with 6GB of DDR3 as oppose to a high end Core 2 quad.
Here are a few more guides from other sites.
bit-tech.net - What Hardware Should I Buy?
The Tech Report's summer 2009 system guide
AnandTech - System Buyers' Guide: $700 to $1700
Edit: Why a 2.66GHz i7-920 and not a 3.0GHz Core 2 Q9650 or better? Because right now, for the price (the i7-920 is $40 cheaper than the Q9650 at NewEgg) the i7-920 is generally faster on multicore tasks and pretty much on par in games compared to the Q9650. -
Quote:This assumes they are doing nothing with the spam reports. This assumes that they aren't closing down accounts as they discover illicit activity.Funny how City of heroes doesnt inforce there own rules
Rule 8. You may not market, promote, advertise, or solicit within the City of Heroes game or on the official City of Heroes website.
Rule 10. You may not advertise the intent to or commit the act of buying, selling, trading, sharing, or transferring access to any City of Heroes account.
What we have is a QoL issue with the ignore system caused when loot was introduced and the mail system after /tell was disabled on trial accounts. We also have a support team that for one reason or another can't act fast enough when a spammer appears and is reported. Action against the account occurs well after the spam bot is done.
I suspect that 1) the automatic spam notification generates the most incident reports in a single day however would you rather see the limited GM help (which is shared by all NCSoft games) be spent helping players with actual problems or be utterly preoccupied in verifying spammers and shutting them down sooner? In a perfect world I would want both of course but when running a business you simply don't have the resources. And as for sold accounts, I wouldn't know where to begin on how to identify them. Couples split up, children "inherit" their parent's or sibling's account and credit cards are frequently changed.
The thing is every "society" has a certain level of, well tolerance isn't quite the right word, of illegality. You can't eliminate all illicit behavior but you try to keep much of it in check with the resources the rest of society is willing to grant you. What society doesn't see, they won't care about.
Once the devs implement some change to the mail system, rumored in I16, that would allow players to ignore spam, whether with whitelist options like some found in hide or by some other means, I believe most players would be satisfied. The inf peddlers will of course find another way to advertise. No system is perfect. As for now, learn to either ignore the red e-mail indicator or help by tagging spammers with the spam button so action can eventually be taken against them. -

What? They disliked the biohazard symbol or our friends the floating eyeballs with teeth? Guess they've never been to the shadow shard or was around for the Issue 2 event.
