Why are servers down?

Because of today's patch, which was announced earlier.

how long they gonne be down now?
They said in the post they were going down at 10:00 eastern for 2 hours, or less if possible. In game, we got the Admin message that it was going down at 8:00 eastern for 4 hours, or less if possible.

No biggie, but it seems odd that they would make an announcement for 7:00AM Pacific if they were going to bring them down at 5:00AM.

well dang, second time i tried gettin on at this time and havent been able to, yesterday was cuz of maitenance, and now today is this. Wish i could play

Generally Monday and Friday are the "usual" Maintance times. But, this has always been reserved from 8 - 10AM CST for updates, and the like. I still remember when the servers went down daily at this time frame...

Mon and Fri are the normal days, Tues, Wed, Thurs are normally patch updates.
They do however shut down servers randomly for emergency fixes.
Random downtimes do suck for players, but are important if the bug could break your toon for instance. Scheduled downtimes are always announced on the forums. This time they announced it in the updater which is rare.
now pretty much all of the servers are down
I know it said 10 eastern, but Justice went down at 8 Eastern. Grrr. lol.
Would be nice if they would actually make a post stating why the servers went down 2 hours prior to the announced time. I know some like to just quote the Rednames and all, but when they say one thing then do another, they could at least tell us why.

Maint today is to try to fix or help the dreaded server instability on all North American servers.

sorry if it's been posted, but I'm still not used to this new shiny forum and I was wandering where the patch notes were, because I didn't see them on the main page

Aya. And once the patch is "officially" up Avatea or Niv will have Official Patch Notes for the Live Servers somewhere. Hard to find until the Digests get fixed--but I'll throw a link in here once they do or someone beats me to it.
