New automatic logout

I noticed the other day that the automatic logout function logs you out after only about 10 minutes now, and does so even in missions. Is this a bug, or an intended change?

If you're AFK in a mission, it will still log you out. Now, if you're saying that you are active, and it's auto logging you out, that a bug. And I have to ask, if you are activly playing your character, at what point does the "You have been inactive and will be automatically logged out in XX seconds." pop up?

When did the game start afk dropping you in missions?

Hmmm... that's disappointing. There are times when I need to pop downstairs for a few minutes (let the dogs out, wash a couple dinner dishes, warm up some pizza, etc.). 10 minutes doesn't always cover it. Logging out for those few minutes is tedious, and I sometimes miss important chat comments, so I will often park in my base (considered a mission) until I come back.

What's the reasoning behind this move? How does my parking in my base (or other mission) affect anyone else's gameplay?

Your client is still talking to the server. If you are in your base then your base is running as an instance, just like most missions, in their server, taking up resources.

I believe I pay a monthly fee to do exactly that.
There is nothing in the user agreement that says my money only pays for time that I am "actively playing".

Furthermore, I have a hard time believing that the servers are all THAT overloaded, considering how rare it is to see any of them (except Freedom) over one green dot. That argument just doesn't hold water.

When did this start? I was AFK in a mission for about 45 minutes yesterday when making dinner and didn't have any problems. I didn't even get the popup.

Does it log you out if you are on a TF or Ouro mission?

It happened when I was afk in a mission. The phone rang and I stopped playing for a while, but was still at my desk, and I noticed it kicking me off after a bit. If this is WAI, I'm quite disappointed. Getting Born in Battle just got exponentially harder.

Not even remotely relevant.

I walked away for almost half an hour yesterday while I was in a mission and it didn't kick me.

Same here. Stayed logged in all day, but spent some time away from the computer while attending to the kids. Never kicked once.

Haven't been kicked from a mission or base while afk.

Are you sure you didn't just get mapserved? The servers have had a few hiccups in the last few days.

That is the most likely explanation, in accordance with Occam's Razor, or Wittgenstein's Banana, or something like that.

It's possible I was just mapserved, but I was sitting at the computer when it happened, I just hadn't pressed any buttons for a few minutes. And the message definitely said something about being logged out due to inactivity. Maybe it was a bug, and it just popped up the wrong message?

If the system is auto loggin you, then the message pops up with a high pitched chirpy bell like sound effect and gives you the option to stop the logout with a push of a button. If you did not get that, then you were probably map served.

The game does not auto log you when inside a mission. Or, at least I can say the game does not auto log me when I'm afk inside a mission.

Something else in your computer logs you off of programs when inactive, maybe? Could this be a third-party thing, outside of the ingame AFK timer?

i have no idea who's banana that is, but i am soooo using that, oddly enough references to Occam's Razor comes up way more then one would think.

and i was AFk in mish for 20 min's at least twice yesterday without a logout, kitten wanted to fight repeatedly , hopefully it was a server/mapserver issue you had. (not that i want you to get booted, but glitches are better then shorter timers)

Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

screw your joke, i want "FREEM"

Tagged.

Definitely most likely something external for the OP. I just spent nearly an hour idle inside a mission while getting in a grocery run. Still hanging out fine inside.

If I remember right, that was a Steve Martin bit. He also had several other obscure theories and axioms as well. However, only one I can remember by name is "Elvis's Charcoal Briquette."

It's from Pure Drivel by Steve Martin

Wittgenstein's Banana

A banana is flying first class from New York to LA. Two scientists, one in each city, are talking on the phone about banana. Because it is moving in relationship to its noun, the referent of the word banana never occupies one space, and anything that does not occupy one space does not exist. Therefore, a banana will arrive at JFK with no limousine into the city, even though the reservation was confirmed in L.A.
