    Hey there and welcome!!
As I type this, I see Aedon Hawkwood has already said the one thing I was going to mention.
Praetoria can be a bit tougher. It does have nicer architecture and some more compelling single-player story elements, but then again, not everyone finds that to be the best thing.
The game will force you to make your first character in Praetoria (they implemented that with the Going Rogue expansion because A) they wanted to show off their new shiny zones and B) Felt like the new Praetorian Tutorial was a better learning experience.

I, personally, would rather start as a Hero or a Villain for my first experiences in this game, but to each their own. (My first taste of this game was as a Villain in the Rogue Isles, for whatever that is worth. I decided pretty quickly that I loved it and converted my free trial into a paid account)

Get in there and knock some enemies around (whatever zone and whatever side) and see if it makes you smile as much as it did others!

Hehe, not too serious about this, but this game has always been a little less like other mmorpgs. A lot more about showing up and having fun and a lot less about serious business on how things work and what to do vs. what not to do.
There is plenty of complexity involved (and plenty of people enjoy diving into that and working towards efficiency to single percentage points, if that's your thing!), but I just suggest forgetting how things are "supposed" to work and see if you like how things really are with this game.
The greater details are there for reference and for those who want and enjoy it, but it is never necessary (if you don't care or don't enjoy that).

Seems Virtue is the server I will be starting on as it's been pointed out on here it's a pretty populated server.
Virtue is also the unofficial role-playing server, in case that means anything to you.
Freedom is slightly more populated, but much more focused (generally speaking) on gaming and not on the role-play or background aspects.

Of course, you find any and all of that on any server.

Best of luck and I hope you enjoy it!!
And yeah, never hesitate to ask around the forums... people are all too happy to answer!
  2. Lots of sound advice in here... and welcome back!!

I'll just stress that the anything/everything works thing is the truth and I wouldn't overlook that at all.

It depends where the fun really is for the three of you.
Are you each more efficiency-minded? Or would the fun possibly come more from having the team dynamics of something like the Fantastic Four (just as an example).

Having a group of the sames can be a lot of fun, but so can having the divergent types that make up the whole.

Depending on the interests of each of you, individually... I'd suggest passing around some ideas between the three of you and see what may fit you individually... then work from there and come up with a team concept (talking either game mechanics or backstory-fun and/or both, depending on your interests).

Warshades can make for some great jack-of-all-trades and can make for some good teaming.

For me, the fun is in seeing the characters do what they do and having them all shine at different times. Not with the efficiency that the team mows things down (and I've never really encountered anything we couldn't overcome in this game). However, there's nothing wrong with the getting more enjoyment out of efficiency! And there's plenty of choices for both combined!
    Best of luck!

So.. it's confirmed... Fire Sword Powerset for Doms... What?!?
    Haha... I kid...

And I don't get the negativity expressed by some (as alluded to in the OP).
Everyone else gets something, but Doms are promised something special coming soon... haha, sounds good to me!
I'll take special on my own special day after everyone else has their run-of-the-mill stuff.
  5. RPers get ignored/not-ignored just about as much as any other subset of players.

Saying anything and everything that can be done that would be counter to RPers is... Haha, c'mon, it's not even necessary to address such a hyperbolic statement.

Don't get me wrong... There are a lot of things I'd like to see different.
And I've voiced my strong displeasure about the new emotes, chest emblems and auras being locked behind Empyrean and Astral merits.

And, honestly, what bugs me about the Galaxy City thing is that they're removing the zone altogether. I thought there'd be a wrecked Galaxy City to visit, whenever we wanted, whatever level we want.
I knew it'd be a tutorial zone... but... after the tutorial... and for all of us who've been in the existing game world this long... There should be a way for us to go and see the damage.
Somewhere we can have our characters go and fit this new reality into their heads. Into their actions.

I don't have a problem with them blowing up a zone. In fact, I think it is fantastic.
I'm just disappointed that it is being done in a way that we don't even have a chance to include it in our in-game sessions.

Wouldn't you want to go there? Visit? See it? Help clean up? Fight? SOMETHING?!

I hope there's, at least, some sort of mission map (for use without exemplar-ing) of the wrecked Galaxy City.

    /end ramble

I understand the 'problem', I get why it was a problem, I think the solution was ... incorrect.
    This, right here.
I was surprised when they removed what was there. I understood the feedback that people wanted one without the makeup, but I was really surprised that they just up and removed it.
So, now everyone who liked it the way it was has to do what those who felt the opposite did... Maybe we can get a weekly rotation, one week with makeup, next week without and so on...

Hehe, seriously... Options... Options are awesome.

(I personally never used either face, so this is all coming from somewhat distant observation)

I completely forgot about this... and I was around today too!

    OR

someone posts a valid concern/critique (not the end of the world) and some people respond as though their concern means nothing.

You like making houses of cards? Houses of cards are pointless!!
So what if I knocked it all down... I gave you the cards... You can build another one, duh!!!

All you have to do really is realize it's okay to be attention hog at some points and the audience at others.

Which is of course easier to say than do, as people tend to want to be the big hero/name/what have you, of the scene.
    I suspect you're right, BrandX

Of course, it comes down to the person, and not everyone is so concerned about others, hehe.

Yeah, it can be a tricky balance... and another reason to love smaller gatherings/teams/collections of characters (not that large amounts can't work!).

Also, for your established characters... sure they may not have major personal development to go through, but (especially with your namesake) there's plenty of business to do! New relationships and such to play through and develop and you never know what those will lead to.
  13. I want to say "wow", but a bit of pessimism is trying to block it...
It's a stalemate so far... (slight edge to my optimism, as I did say "wow", after all).

I'm really hopeful that this takes off (and if it can, that it is not buried by other financial interests).

As for the debate in here... Regardless of any possible agendas, the earth goes through major climatic cycles. How much humans may affect/accelerate these things is indeed debatable, however there is no debate about the various negative affects of pollution and many of the gases and such that humans have been creating (beyond their affect on the Earth's global temperatures).
Is it possible that some people attached a greater significance between certain types of pollution and the global temperature? Sure. Unfortunately, people, in general, only tend to take action and do things differently when they have no choice. It is possible that people drummed up certain facets in order to stir change.
However, none of that defeats all the other myriad of factual damages that the same procedures incur.

So, even if humans aren't contributing to the global warming, they're still messing threatening their own living environment/ecosystem in several ways that can be avoided with the same steps as suggested in the global warming scenario.

Global Warming or not... an ice age will come, as this is what happens. The Earth goes through cycles of many mini ice ages.
As I understand, the global temperature warms up the ice caps... the ice caps melt... that melting ice cools the global temperature...

Overly simplified... it's like ice in a drink. It's really warming up, even if your drink is cooler.

    Blah blah blah...
    Printable Solar Cells... AWESOME!

Those capes aren't a part of it, as the AE tickets are only for stuff used to make AE/Mission Architect stuff.

The low-level capes are from Booster packs and/or vet rewards (single shoulder cape).

Just in case you've not been pointed to it...

The Paragon Wiki is the greatest resource of info (along with these forums) and I use it a lot to remind myself of details I may have forgotten or never learned about.

For the most part, this game is simple and all, but there are always greater layers of detail for any and all interesting things...

Here's a bit about the different capes available at level one:
    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Costumes#Capes_and_Auras
(which includes links to the different boosters and such that provide some of them)

The tickets get awarded to the character, but all of the things you buy/unlock are global/account-wide unlocks, so any character can log in and mess with those options in AE!
  16. Revive!
    Just in case...
And it is basically a full health bar heal... a do-over... a second chance!

Sometimes you get nabbed before you can get your defenses back up... sometimes not.

I've found it is helpful to make sure MoG is recharged and pop that as soon as I revive, then put up my toggles and unleash my own vengeance on whatever got lucky enough to drop me.

I love me some second chances...

  18. Haha...
You will fit in well around here!!

    Welcome to the game!!

And yeah, answers have been given...

Just so you know, you could create a new character right away that starts in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles and begin working on the Mission Architect.

Actually, you'll want to run a few missions through the Mission Architect (AE buildings) in order to earn tickets to buy/unlock some cool stuff for your missions (more selections of maps, costumes, NPCs).
There's plenty to start with, but ya know... when it comes to creating stuff, the more options the crazier you can go!

It doesn't take too much to unlock that stuff, as far as I remember.

    Best of luck!

    Carry on.
That depends on your definition of "Adult RP" from the OP.
I responded honestly about it. And if that definition includes things other than explicit details of engaging in sexual activities, then I have admitted to liking it.

I mean, "Adult RP" can mean a lot more than just that side of things.

Not just a back story but stories about how they interact with NPCs or react to particular story arcs. I do a lot of the same (I enjoy playing solo, but I also RP with others).
If you type things that your character says while soloing... you win! (I do!)

    Haha
  21. It's funny you ask/post this, as I just recently started a discussion on my SG's website about my SD/SS Tanker's build.

I've never actually taken the enhancements into role-playing, but I've just always stuck to Standard IOs and not gone any farther with the invention system.

I have, however, felt that my SD/SS Tank (Amazing Ape) was a bit more squishy than I'd like.
He has no Tough nor Weave and no Res Enhancements in Deflection. And only uses level 50 standard IOs.
I'm not entirely sure yet, how gimped that makes him. I've had some times where I simply can't tank an AV for the team and that made me feel like I should look into giving a greater build a looksee.

But... as a Blaster at heart, it may be a bit of my own playstyle adjustment and lack of familiarity. I'm still not positive (I don't play my Tank enough to really know).

So... this post probably doesn't help one lick... but... You're not alone in wondering!!

In case it helps, here is the thread on the Paragon Universe forums.

Immersive ... It's all RP all the time, baby. You hang out regularly at pocket D, etc. -Except I am never in Pocket D (just do not have characters that hang out in a nightclub)
Action RP ... You RP in missions
Those are both equal to me... I RP everywhere (Hmm, there's a Johnny Cash mock cover there...). I like the comicbook/super-hero/villain world for my RP here, so doing that type of stuff is where it's at for me.

Recently, I'm a bit more of a Light/Action RPer, myself. Plus, using some designated OOC global channels help to get our IC stuff going:
Light RP ... You talk OOC in some channels, RP in others
(especially for the past bunch of months. I guess it goes and comes in waves... the ebb and flow).

Adult RP ... The naughty bits
If we're talking about violence and such, if I am RPing with other people who are okay with it and all, that can be an integral part of some characters and story lines. I have a psychotic villain who was battling a psychic hero (who was also a therapist) and some of the results were intensely violent and terrible... to the point that I put disclaimers on some of our postings (we posted the chat logs and/or turned the chat logs into full writings for others to enjoy).
As for the sexual side of things, I have gotten into such relationships a few times, but I enjoy "fading to black" very quickly. Set up the scenario and then cut away, as I'm not trying to elicit strong reactions with that sort of RP (nor are the players I've ever RP'd such relations with).

Trying to think of another category...
Ah, I do have a couple of slightly more comical characters. They can seriously fit into the world of my most serious characters, but there is an element of comic fiction that is brought out more-so when they appear in their comicbook, so-to-speak. The only reason I bring that up is because sometimes I feel like they're not so complimentary to other people's RP desires (other people's comicbooks).
Super Platypus and Zox'Oculox would fit into this category for me.
Of course, they both can absolutely fit into a more serious realm (Zox, possibly, more-so). I just may have to tone the over-arcing comedy down sometimes.

My anecdotal evidence (or perhaps evidence of confirmation bias? ) is that I see a lot of posts here on the forums that say things like:

"I'm on a trial account and this game seems dead, am I missing something?"

    or

"I'm a returning player from three years ago and the game seems dead today (etc.)"

If they're one of the players who don't come to these forums, then they're likely to not find out about global channels at all. Players who only use the not-so-clear-itself player search box won't do so well if they play on a low-pop server or at off-hours.

I think if the devs are smart (and they may be ), they really need to look at the way this game separates people and find ways around it.
You know, whenever I see those posts (of new or returning players, who we then direct towards global channels), I think that just maybe the devs should make a server-specific LFT channel.
Despite the idea that it could/would turn into a spamming mess... It may just be worth implementing.

It's fun being with his buddies, drinking whisky, chatting, smoking, throwing bills and chips in the pot and from time to time throw the cards down. There may even be skill involved, if the whisky didn't kill it. He doesn't see that much difference there. It's a fun night, as simple as that.
