Quote:Hangon... I'm confused. You want to half/merge the available servers to get population higher so you can run ITF's without lag.... Eh? Sorry. Higher population, more lag (generally). I understand that you are implying that the spare hardware should be used to upgrade the remaining servers, but I doubt you'll get a double performance boost to accomodate. What I believe needs to happen is server consolidation. Cut both lists in half, pool the server resources so every server has 4+ dots at a time with the maximum per server around 10. This would solve so many problems with people unable to find groups. Plus, maybe we then we can run an ITF or Incarnate trial without massive lag affecting everyone.
As for your follow up post on what can cause more stress on the server than population, I believe that people running Ultra Mode, or maybe playing in Praetoria, has a greater effect than someone not. I don't think the fact Union is regularly at 2 dots now is due solely to an increase in population. Additionally, Toons standing around chatting aren't causing much stress compared to toons firing off powers consistantly. And if they are firing them off in zone, even more stress.
Added to that the issues with Toon/SG name conflicts between the merged Servers and you have an Admin and PR nightmare to add onto the technical one. -
Quote:Nope, don't want it both ways. I am more than happy to fail in a game untill I figure out what to do. However, as it's a game, there may come a point at which I am no longer enjoying myself. That is the point at which I'll either take a break and come back later, or look up a solution. All due respect, Diggis, but I think you want it both ways here. If you want to learn 'in the field,' you must be prepared to FAIL 'in the field.' Instant Success is generally not the way you learn, with a few exceptions - it's why the military has what is called 'Basic Training', and why engineers go to school before designing such simple contructions as, say, bridges and tunnels. They fail under controlled circumstances, after learning the pitfalls of their respective crafts.
In this game, it is indeed aok to fail 'in the field' - unless you take it as a personal insult, and equate 'failing' with 'being a failure'.
A game is, to some people, a series of challenges to be overcome to achieve a reward - be it a shiney, or that epically awesome song at the end of Portal. If it's too easy, no value (to some); too hard, and people quit. But some work in figuring it out is, to me, an acceptable 'cost'. And I find the trials a good balance, personally. -
Quote:Eh? Reading up on the encounter before trying takes away the fun of working it out.Let me reword it: If you've never done Hami, and barring asking other players for help, are you going to know what the hell's going on when you run in?
You've never played console games, have you? You should try playing Resident Evil 5 or Devil May Cry 3/4. It takes numerous tries to take down bosses before you figure out the strategy. And by numerous I mean "god dammit Wesker why won't you die" and throwing your XBOX360 out the window in a fit of rage. I watched it happen to my old roomie.
Smart gamers will read up on their encounters.
Seriously, your logic is the flawed logic.
"If you have to read up on content to win it's a badly designed game."
Let's change that a little to reflect the nonsensical aspects of the statement.
"If you have to study for a test, it's a badly designed class."
I will only read up on an encounter if I am really struggling to figure it out, or not enjoying the challenge.
Your example is flawed in that a game is not an exam. An exam is a test of your knowledge. A game is a relaxing past time. All the information you need should be displayed on screen. -
I assume he's playing 50's? And fighting eligible foes? I've had 3 I think in 2 1/2 years. Random is random.

Quote:That is my understanding too. I don't know who told us that, but it's been the standard answer for a while. The way I understand it, is that if they allowed you to remove unwanted buffs, you'd also be able to remove unwanted debuffs as well, as the game does not distinguish between the two. Debuffs are simply buffs using negative values.
Not saying it can't be done, but that's the general response to request #3.
Though I wouldn't mind if all 3 of those suggestions made it in-game.
Also, a popup would be terrible.... it would have to be for all buffs (I assume it would be linked to the power so it wouldn't pop up on debuffs) Gather for RARA, click yes twice. Ohhh, fort is down... mid fight popup... SB down on the granite... mid fight popup.... aaarrrrgggghhhhh No No No -
Quote:Sorry, are you complaining that these powers aren't available when you are exemped to level 1? God, I've just started playing another MMO that doesn't support sidekicking and it sucks! The games great, but not having my friends able to join up and prod buttock without temporing their powers isn't so much fun.Perhaps so, Arcana, but the point is that the progress we're supposed to be making has no other impact beyond these trials. The instant I come back out of them and do anything that's not close to level 50, the apparent progress I've made doesn't exist.
No other MMO I've ever played where I've seen the risk is worth the reward has denied me the reward after I've gotten it and used it in a setting outside of the original context.
If that's not counter-productive, I don't know what is. Give me a zone like the Shard and move them into the post-50 bracket and I wouldn't say anything at all. But this isn't happening.

Quote:Except that (annecdotally of course) a lot of people have set it to NOT run in the background because it's a resource hog. Additionally, it's also not able to run if my machine isn't turned on, which it isn't unless I'm using it.Sorry this doesn't work for you, but it's the way it is. I'm sure if the NCsoft Launcher supported pre downloads then they would have made it do it. They probably figured they didn't need it since the NCsoft Launcher does do trickle downloads and unless you go and change the setting the Launcher remains running in the background and starts downloading an update, and will update the game on it's own (I noticed the beta server install on my system is now updated yet I didn't tell it too). If you really don't want to have to wait for the update to download you can allways use a service like Logmein.com to remote into your computer from work and start the update your self.
and by the way Cryptic started the pre-downloads with i1 -
Quote:Can we also have the globals of the purchaser, and the price the original seller put the item up for? So we can point and laugh at the idiot who paid 20mill for an item listed for 10inf?1. Post the sellers GLOBAL name, and any other GLOBAL names their master NC Account pays for.
Desired resolution: This helps track down the farmers and the BM jackers, then everyone that plays the game can refuse to play with the jerk that makes this aspect of the game infuriating to the player base. The community will sort out the bad apples and the devs can easily boot/slap/punish/immolate/draw&quarter the BM Jerks.
Quote:
2. Make listings time sensitve, 1 week max length, and the price you paid to list it is GONE FOREVER. This will incentivise sellers to put an actual reasonable price on their items instead of just listing something for an inflated price and letting it sit for months. It'll start costing them to try and jerk around the BM so they'll have to drop the prices in order to actually move their stock.
#3.. sure, why not. -
Is TP foe not interuptable like Recall Friend? In which case it wouldn't work either.

Quote:Pretty sure the answer isn't the one you want...I guess I need clarify something. I am a MAJOR badge junkie. I have always made sure I had my badge character on for every special event, every limited offer going all the way back to year one. Badges and a close group of friends are the only things that have kept me interested in CoX at points over the years Im losing IG friends over a RL relationship so now I find that it's a real possibility that I will NEVER be able to earn this badge because of a retarded ATM? Someone tell me this isnt happening? I suppose as sad as it is, if this is the truth my time here is probably done. I know that my stupid OCD badge fixation may seem shallow, but it keeps me interested and having fun. I hope it isnt as bad as it seems.....confirmation please? Are there any options? Or possibly will there be a way to earn it ingame down the road ala' the xmas badges from past years being able to be bought at current xmas events? I dont really care about the other stuff, just the badge. ill probably buy the vanguard booster if possible, but the badge is the dealbreaker for me.

Quote:What that patch note is saying is that some villians may have that badge but only if they were hero AT's and created before the first anniversary. If Celebrant ISN'T awarded for switching alignments from hero to villain [which applies to at least two of my current toons], wouldn't the hero ALREADY have it?
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Celebrant
The badge is NOT awarded for switching toon alignments and has nothing to do with alignment except that under no circumstances can a Villian AT (brute, Dom, Stalker, MM or Corr) have that badge. -

There did appear to be Nazi super soldiers in there so it's possible. Must say, it looked pretty cool. Not too knowledgeable about Captain America, but I'll see it.

With all the talk of ciggarets one of the ones that gets the most interesting looks is asking for a ciggaret from someone. Not sure if it's used in England so much, but in NZ you ask 'Can I bum a ***?'
-
Wow, that is fantastic. That's a huge amount for a company to donate. Great effort NCSoft.

If @Nights logs on with Nights then this will happen. Otherwise they're global will be what ever toon they log on with.

No. Things like Jet Packs should be made available to all accounts.

'Are we actually arguing...?'
'I don't know!'

If you could put it off till after summer I'd be interested.

Ahh, OK. Makes sense. I assume the resistance types are across the board?

Quote:But will stack from different tanks? So 2 tanks will apply a 40% debuff? It was also added to help them solo, in response to complaints that their damage is too low.
It's there, but since it was so recently added, the in-game information hasn't been updated yet. It's a 20% resistance debuff proc that has a 100% chance to fire on a given target, and it won't stack with itself.
