Interesting question I don't know the answer to:
If I put a +END proc into Thunderous Blast, would it work?
As in, I fire off Thunderous Blast, I get drained, then when it hits I recover some END?
Or would the side effects of Thunderous Blast prevent it? -
Quote:The beautiful thing is electric/electric has a very quickly recharging END drain and gain power that you can combo with it (and there are a few other secondaries that allow something similar). I definitely like the nuke on my electric blaster far better than the nuke on my energy blaster. Working on getting a Ragnarok set slotted into it to help it recharge a lot faster (Positron's Blast just isn't doing it for me). While I wish the bigger nukes didn't punish you quite so much, it's fair to say that if Thunderous Blast didn't have a crash, it would be rather unfair. Decent thread in the Blaster forums on the subject of nukes and their crashes, for what it's worth.
It's a fun nuke, though. Love the visuals on it. -
Quote:I can confirm this as well. Thunderous Blast has a full END drain and crash.FYI, the above is false. TB has a full end crash, just like most of the rest of the blaster nukes. I've run a tri-elec blaster for almost 5 years, it's always had a full crash.
Yes, the power description says it is only -40 end to self when firing. Yes, that is a lie. I just tested it ingame on some level 40 rikti in FF. When from 112 endurance, with no powers running, all the way down to zero after the nuke fired. -

I just saw the news and had to see if it was posted yet.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dwayne at a convention up in Bangor, ME when the Milestone books were still being printed. I thought "Icon" simply kept getting better and better with every issue, and I was probably the only white guy out there who had the guts to ask how to get "one of those really cool Milestone baseball caps" all the guys were wearing. (He was up there with Denys Cowan, John Paul Leon, Ivan Rodriguez, CrissCross and several other Milestone people -- all classy guys and gals.)
Since I was working at the show, during some down time I got to ask Dwayne about his 4-issue run on "The Demon." He did a story that was essentially filler between the Keith Giffen / Val Semeiks run on the title that transitioned into the Garth Ennis / Dennis McCrea run on the title in which Etrigan ran for President of the U.S. Superman ended up getting involved and it was rather silly. After mentioning how much I liked that story, Dwayne told me, "I think you're the only one. I'm not allowed to work on that title any more."
After I finally did get my Milestone cap in the mail, I moved away to Albany for a couple of years and went to a show at the Javitts Centers. Again, I was probably the only white guy wearing a Milestone cap, and when I walked up to the Milestone booth a bunch of people working there were wondering, "How did you get that hat? It's only for Milestone staff." That's when Dwayne recognized me and actually remembered my name.
I was sad when Milestone was all canceled, but I was happy to see Dwayne have success with "Justice League" and "Static Shock" in the TV world. The two times I got to sit and talk to him, he seemed like a genuinely good guy, and he was definitely a talented writer.
This was indeed sad news for me today. He and his talent will be missed.
My condolences to his family. -

Quote:1) The formulas are right there in front of you to see. You know what you're getting when you break them down. Why isn't the shards equal to what we paid for them? I broke down some today and I wished I hadn't.
I broke down 3 honoree blood samples and an infinite tell and I only got 4 shards total.
2) This prevents people from running the TFs that take less time (i.e. Khan) and buying the components from TFs/events that take more time or coordination.
Should the breakdown result be a little more favorable? Maybe. But it certainly should not be an equal trade. -
Quote:I think one of the other problems was that as the table top RPG was getting closer to being a reality, the computer game dropped the bombshells known as Enhancement Diversification and the big defensive power nerf, both of which pretty well revamped how the computer game is played. If they wanted the table top RPG to be like the computer game, it was probably going to require a big rework. On top of that, Jack was off and working on "other things" and I think he was the one championing the pen and paper game (he wrote a few things for Eden Studios before COH was born).I was on the original beta team to test this for Eden Studios.
They really did their best to try and make it work. I did not stay in the test through the end. I saw a lot of problems and didn't have the time to commit make the RPG feel like it was anything close to the MMORPG. But that is only my opinion there.
The QuickStart was released long after I left the beta test. It does look good and seem to have a nice feel to it, but the game mechanics are a bit cumbersome. In truth so is the MMORPG, but we never see the back end so it seems to go smoothly for us. I can only make a guess that the game was not doing what Paragon Studios wanted it to do. So my assumption is they let the licensing fall through.
I do think Eden Studios has a good RPG system, but it is not level based and that was one of the challenges was adding a level system to it. They were also shoe-horning in the powers system, inspirations, endurance, recharge, etc ... into the existing Eden Unisystem. -
Quote:Your argument is invalid.OK seriously now, why do you guys hate Liefeld so much?
Yeah he has the tendency to go way over the top, hide the feet and can´t keep deadlines... so what?
He´s still one of my favourite Comic Artists, and gave us two of Marvel´s most iconic 90´s Heroes: Cable & Deadpool.
I mean all that hate and ****... does that give you something or what?
Can you draw better than Rob? If yes, why is he succesfully drawing and publishing comics and you not? If not, cool your engines, stop criticising (<- that word looks wrong, is it?) and try to actually become better than him.
Here's the thing. I know for a fact I can't draw. Stick figures that I draw are even pretty horrible. But what I do know is what a human body should look like when somebody draws one. And Rob Liefield doesn't know the first thing about human anatomy, nor does he understand how to draw it. It's a pretty basic concept for an artist to grasp.
Why does he keep getting work? I keep asking myself the same question over and over and over again. I'm betting he has compromising photographs of somebody important in the comics business.
I also don't know how to sing, but I do know what good singing should sound like.
I don't know how to play guitar, but I do know good guitar music when I hear it.
I don't know how to cook, but I do know what good food tastes like.
Should I go on?
Back on topic...I can't say I've been waiting on pins and needles for an animal pack, but there's some pretty cool stuff in there. When I get internet hooked up in the new home, I may have to consider a purchase. -
Quote:They put 2 new TFs, the initial incarnate trial, and new Tip missions into the game with Issue 19. You can debate about "lots of little updates or one big update every 3 months," as that's been going on since the game started, but they've been content to go with the latter for 7 years now. Let's say they added one new TF a month, people would suddenly complain that "everyone is running just that TF, and now I'm bored with it and want more stuff."I disagree with the flavor comment. It's the same stuff we've been running. Tfs with Shards, Tfs with notices. I'm feeling like Forrest Gump....Fried Shrimp, Boiled Shrimp, Breaded Shrimp...at the core it's still shrimp.
Where's the new stuff? 1 new TF a month is that so hard?
Ncsoft is doing everything but creating new content...it's like they know something and aren't telling us.
Why 19.5(never been done before .5) and when will i20 really come? The rewards? More XP, More Merits... who cares?
If your a 50, you enough XP and merits. More prestige/Infamy would be nice but... -
Quote:It has always been 2. (10 is the number of times to beat whats-her-face on the Katie Hannon TF, so maybe that's why it's stuck with you.) My memory is faulty on them upping the spawn rate. Very possible, but I can't remember.Ah, I see, well you're just as forced to level up every single one of your 24+ character slots to 50 as well, going through the same tired content. *shrug*
Believer initially required 10. It was nerfed down to two after those 'complaints'. She also had her spawn rate increased significantly [as well as fixing a bug with how she was spawning]. Used to be close to once or twice a day, with a 1-hit kill. But it's been so very long since then, I don't remember.
I know what you mean though, but Believer isn't the best example for your case.
[ edit ]
Now, I'm doubting my memory on the 10. So discount that possibly.
But currently people are all, "Oh, look. It's Sally! Meh!" And that was more to my point. Once people start getting some rares and ultra rares slotted, interest in the Strike Targets will wane. -

Quote:I was thinking the same thing as I read the OP's rant.Well to be clear I'm certainly not defending the bugs or problems with testing in this case. I'm just arguing that the concept behind the WSTs (regardless of the unique problems introducing it to the game) is really not any worse or better than many of the other new features we've gotten over the years.
Once the problems are fixed it'll be yet another choice of activity for us to be involved with.
You aren't being forced to like it or hate it regardless.
Does anyone remember when Croatoa was introduced? It was THE most packed zone in the game, and everyone took to the forums complaining about how "I'll never be allowed to get the Believer badge! I have to kill a super rare spawn not just once but TWICE and everyone on the server is trying to do the same thing! And how DARE YOU make this required for an Accolade!" Now think about how easy it is to get the Believer badge and how silly that statement really is. Yet it was all over these forums for at least a month.
The same type of thinking applies here.
NOBODY is forcing anybody to do the Statesman TF over and over and over again. I'm on one of the least populated servers, and while there were many STFs and LRSFs starting up in the global channels, there were still plenty of people running ITFs, Positrons and I think I saw someone looking for a team to run Manticore's TF, as well as people still running Tip missions. There is no doom here.
EDIT: One last thing. On the first STF I ran last night, we went to pull the first of the AVs in the last mission (Mako) and we got all four of them. Our initial reaction was "ZOMG! RUN!" But then a few seconds later, our reaction was, "Wait a minute! We're Incarnates! Let's mop the floor with them!" It wasn't easy, but it was FUN. And it was probably the most fun I've had on the STF in a long time. (And none of use had our level shift yet.) -
Voodoo...if there's still space I'll run the LRSF. I've actually never done the LRSF before, so whichever you prefer me to bring:
Bots / Traps MM
Elec / Elec Brute
Plant / Fire Dom
Energy / Energy Stalker -
Quote:That was my only problem with the Donner cut -- they blatantly did something they used in the first movie. I would have been okay with Lois knowing that Clark Kent was Superman. She's supposed to be a star journalist. She's smart. She should be able to figure these things out. But that's not the direction Donner went.As I recall, didn't the Donner version end with Superman doing the spin the earth time warp to repair all the damage as well as wipe Lois' memory?
Or is it more accurate to say that instead of him spinning the Earth backwards in time, that he simply propelled himself into the past and the Earth moving backwards was the visual effect so the audience would know what he was doing?
All in all, though, the Donner cut is a far superior movie than what the Salkinds and Richard Lester did to it. -

Not a huge amount of leveling on my end as I'm kind of still working on some stuff for 50s.
Got my electric blaster from 47-50 (and totally owned Trapdoor). Got 2 levels on my AR/Devices blaster.
And cleared well over 1 billion net profit (yes, that's with a B) in INF. This was helped greatly by someone paying 400 million for a level 50 common IO, and I gained an extra 100 million on another sale thanks to someone adding an extra digit to their bid. Throw in the sales of some Obliteration Quad recipes that dropped (along with some other nice drops), and I did pretty well. On top of that, I still have a purple recipe sitting on the market (the bottom crashed out after I posted it, so not sure what I'll do with it).
And someone was wondering why I was spending time on my 50s.... -
I worked in a comic book store back in my college days (and, yes, I'm really dating myself with this) but I remember that Wizard had "PITT #1" listed as having a value of $5 (over double the cover price!) well before the comic book even released. And we're talking at least 9 months here because Dale Keown couldn't pull himself together enough to draw 22 pages of "art."
Needless to say, because of this, every person under the age of 15 would come in the store EVERY SINGLE WEEK and ask if PITT #1 was out yet. Going on 6 months of the book being late, the owner of the store kept inventing stuff to say like, "It came out 3 weeks ago, actually, and it sold out in 5 minutes so Wizard should list it at $20 next month" or "It's been canceled."
Wizard had a couple of cool features here and there, but as a "price guide" it was relatively worthless. I also really disliked their deification of some creators, particularly the original Image guys. Their hype machine for garbage like "Youngblood" (one of the most poorly written and drawn comic books I've ever seen) was absolutely nauseating. -
I feel this is the last straw that will drive me to juvenile delinquency. Bad move, DC. Bad move.

Quote:I just started Super Strength / Willpower brute (up to level 27, I think) and concur on the epicness feel of it. END will be an issue until you get the Willpower +END power (whatever it's called), but after that all bets are off. Rage + KO blow + Haymaker is pretty awesome. I do know Foot Stomp is absolutely incredible, so I can't wait for that. And for whatever reason, I love Hurl.Super Strength has a very HULK SMASH feel to it. It's kind of a late bloomer with footstomp coming so late though. SS/Willpower is a solid combo and fun to play.
Another great Brute build I love is Electric Melee / Electric Armor. It's a little weaker against Smash/Lethal damage than some other sets, but you will very easily cap energy resist. I can take direct hits from Rikti Drop Ships and laugh. Couple that with the awesomeness of Lightning Rod, and with the right build, this character can be a complete and utter engine of destruction. And once your Fury bar gets up there, Lightning Field is pretty good. -

Best graphic novel:
Planetary: Spacetime Archaeology by Warren Ellis, John Cassaday and Laura Martin The final chapter in the Planetary story was delayed due to the problems with getting the final issue completed, but it finally hit the shelves and saw the team at its best and at its worst. Snow waged his war against The Four to protect the planet from the dire threat they represented, but then turned his attention to something more personal: trying to save a former colleague they'd thought dead for years. This was a great wrap up to one of the best series in comics.
Best movie:
Inception by Christopher Nolan Lots of solid movies this year, but this is the only one that got me into the theater twice. Runner up: Toy Story 3.
Best soundtrack:
Inception, by Hans Zimmer
BWWAAAAAAAUUUUUUMMMMM
Best album:
Brothers, by The Black Keys Bluesy duo lay down some pretty original tracks on this album. I think Satanic Hamster mentioned them to me some time ago during a Victory Forum COH channel chat. I checked them out and was not disappointed.
Best TV show:
Tough to pick just one, so I'm splitting this up:
Best TV Show = "The Venture Brothers." Season 4 started and wrapped up, and oh, what a Season it was. Henchman 21 got himself into fighting shape as he tried to track Henchman 24's killer. Did I also mention he was being haunted by 24's ghost and kept 24's skull around to talk to? Also, they had to kill the reincarnation of Hitler, Hank and Dean graduated from "high school" and had to come of age on their own, we finally learned who Captain Sunshine was, Brock joined SPHINX (sphinx!) as part of a ruse to root out some moles buried deep within OSI, Sgt. Hatred took over as the Venture family bodyguard and the Monarch kept failing at his attempts to destroy Dr. Venture. The season ended with what was probably the best written episode of the series to date with the boys having their home-school prom. The best news? Season 5 is officially on.
Best New Show = "The Walking Dead." I had my doubts during the first bits of the first episode, but those were quickly laid to rest. Gripping, emotional, disturbing and completely intense. This show was a complete thrill ride.
Runner up = "Justified." This was another show that I was anticipating. It's based on some short stories by Elmore Leonard and depicts the life of a U.S. Marshall (Timothy Olyphant -- in a role he was clearly born to play) as he's forced to return to his Kentucky roots. Walton Goggins shines as a recurring villain in the series, and it's coming back in February.
Best video game: Mass Effect 2 by Bioware. The end battle was a little odd to me, but the whole suicide mission brought some of the most intense sequences I've ever experienced in a video game. Maybe it played out like "The Empire Strikes Back" or "The Two Towers" as a set up to the third installment, but it was pretty darned good. Runner up: Red Dead Redemption by RockStar, which took me completely and utterly by surprise. Seriously, I think I'd seen almost no build up to the game (or maybe just wasn't paying attention), but this took the Grand Theft Auto IV model of an open world game, changed the setting to the Wild West, and then removed all the annoying bits that were in Grand Theft Auto IV. PERFECT!
