  2. 87 lvl 50's across 3 accounts and 3 servers. All but 8 are fully IO'd out. Those 8 are HO'd out (pre-IO's) and I just never bothered to upgrade them.

My first one took almost 400 hours to get to 40...that was before the cap jumped to 50. After that all of them got 1-50 in less than 60 hours, some much faster.

My favorite 1-50? My blaster, solo, 100% street sweeping, pre-ED and pre-IO's. Only 4 deaths too.

    Vindicated!

I feel vindicated in stating that farming was NOT evil in this game. NCSoft's shuttering has nothing to do with the player preferences, obviously.

  6. Exxon CEO.....Water/Dark. Destroyer of the environment, eater of souls, defiler of shorebirds and baby seals.

    Water tinted black, of course.

I was surprised to learn that the name Captain Hazelwood was already taken.

Pretty much your attack chain from 40-50 nonstop.

Pre-40, Plant/Fire likely pales a bit compared to many other sets. But in the late game, confuse 'em, hold 'em and burn 'em. You become a walking forest fire. Which, by the way, has spawned many "Evil Smoky the Bear" tribute toons over the years.
  8. Here's a Staff/Elec with 43% Melee and softcapped S/L. One use of your Guarded Spin and you are way over the softcap to all three and better off for incarnate softcap.

At 49, you can take either Physical Perfection if you really need the end and don't like using the end discount form, or take Power Surge as an "oh crap" button as mentioned before for a temporary god mode power.

  9. ^Sure it does. But if you can't kill something and/or escape in the time its up, you shouldn't have popped it in the first place.

Like I said....Staff/Ela doesn't need a lot of help. But as an oh-crap button, it serves its purpose just fine.
  10. Just chiming in on all the above. I routinely solo the AV's in the 50's at +0/+1 on almost every AT I've got (I don't play tankers). This is all without Incarnate powers. My melee toons, even the once-and-future-kings like /Regen scrappers, do just fine. Really just a matter of sustained DPS and keeping enough END in your bar to make it work.

Exactly. Incarnate content defensive content is softcapped at around 59-60%, higher than the rest of the games' 45% number.
  12. It depends on whether you want to PL the F2P account or create a toon on the F2P account to PL your VIP toons.

If the former, portal missions are still your best bet. The F2P toon gets full XP and your VIP account can make full use of IO's and Incarnate powers to be a better/faster farmer.

If the latter, my recommendation is to build a Fire/Kin on the F2P account, PL that to 50 using door/portal missions, and then create an old-school SO-only build. Fire/Kins did just fine with SO-only builds back before Freedom launched and they still do well today, particularly on the outdoor city/council map. Then that map plus that F2P toon becomes your method to PL other toons on either other F2P accounts or on your main VIP account.

You can build a brute on SO's only for F2P purposes, and it can farm/PL, but it will be hard to achieve the speed of a Fire/Kin on SO's only.
  13. PVE softcapped DEF for M/S/L is easy on a Staff/Ela, and I'm currently also running about 60% S/L resists plus the 90% to energy. I've also got a base recharge of 140% so Energize is up quite a bit.

But I do have to wonder why you would be too concerned about running capped S/L resists all the time? With /Ela you've got Power Surge as an "oh-crap" temp boost to resists. Triggering it with my build I cap out S/L/F/C and of course Energy was already capped. You also almost cap out NE. I think I've triggered it maybe twice in my toons entire history, both times in DA Incarnate arcs. Even normal iTrials are pretty much easy-mode on my Staff/Ela.

I only allocated a single slot for it, but frankly on a Staff/Ela you really don't even need to take an epic pool choice so you have plenty of power picks available to you even taking most of your primary and secondary. If I were you I'd focus more on the M/S/L capped DEF and high Recharge and then just keep Power Sink in there for emergencies. You'll hardly ever need it as-is, plus I think you'll benefit more from a cascading series of defenses....pure defense, backed up by really good resists, backed up by a fast-charging heal, etc.
  14. It's only noticeable if you've already got something to build upon or you are very close to capping and Hybrid would bridge the gap.
  15. I was lucky enough to get a drop on one of my first Mag runs! I really would have preferred to have this in a Broadsword version suitable for my scrapper, but I think it works pretty well on my anime-themed character as well.

I give you...Annie Mae and her new Excalibur weapon.

I almost sold it since it was going for so much but after asking some players for pictures of it, and then running the Pendragon mission in the new zone to see it close up myself, I just couldn't help but make it. Looks fantastic in action.

While I'd say PVP has never been balanced in this game, it wasn't completely borked until after the i13 changes. It was at least playable for most of the AT's prior to then. Zone PVP, particularly Siren's and RV, was usually active with a handful of players even during server mid-day, and prime-time US you could easily find 35-40 players in those zones. And this was on Infinity, Justice, etc.....never the most popular servers.

But you are right...it never was the "overwhelming % of the population" that most PVP'rs claimed. I'm guessing it was never more than 10%. Still....that's likely 4X the number of players that regularly run missions in the Shadow Shard. Not like that's a great comparison but still....

Relax, this will happen LONG, LONG before PVP gets fixed. Different color of frisbee's and animations for the coyote and liger vanity pets to catch and toss the frisbee as well.
  18. OK so that answers my question then...I just mis-read posts by others that seemed to indicate that you could convert a Purple/Superior ATO into a straight Purple.

This also means the dozen or so Enh Catalysts I've earned on iTrials on a single toon are pretty worthless for now. I've already catalyzed 6 ATO's on this toon so all the rest are just...wasted. Can't trade them, can't sell them, can't even email them to myself. And can't cash them in on anything.

    Sigh.
  19. I've seen a few posts that seem to indicate that you can use an Enhancement Converter to convert a Catalyzed (Purple) ATO to a different purple. I just tried this and can't seem to figure it out.

If I'm on a Brute, the only ATO's I can catalyze are those I can slot (have to have an ATO slotted to catalyze it). So that means I can only use an Enhancement Catalyst on a Brute ATO. Fine, I do that. Then I use the Enhancement Unslotter to take it back out. Now its in my tray.

If I then use an Enhancement Converter on it, it will only let me convert it to ANOTHER purple (catalyzed) ATO, either within the same set (Brute ATO's) or out of set (say...a Tanker purple ATO). The latter is worthless to me since I can't do anything with a Tanker ATO other than send it to myself via email (I don't play tankers).

So I can't figure out how people are apparently converting a Purple Brute ATO into, say, a Hecatomb. Am I missing something or did I just misinterpret what has been posted by others?
  20. Oh great....MasterMinds are going to be banned from the Mag trials until this bug is fixed.
  21. A recent redname post on the subject should give you the answer you are seeking. In a word....no, not likely. The devs are far too busy with other, more important things than addressing PVP. Not that they don't want too, perhaps, but more because the list of other more important things (like....princess hats, staff fighting powerset and stealth panthers) take precedent. That should give you some idea of where PVP realistically ranks in terms of priority.

    • Once we start opening the Pandora's Box of PVP we cannot close it. PVP is a constant battle requiring constant tuning, power balancing, nerfing, buffing, etc, etc...To be honest, that's not our focus. We have limited numbers of Systems Designers and their primary focus is on creating new Powersets, proliferation and revisiting older Powersets (when there is time.)
    • PVP activity is not a priority for the vast majority of our Community. Yes, I agree that the argument could be made that it's a symptom of the cause rather than the cause itself, however it is what it is. For better or worse, City of Heroes is a PVE centric game where (many, *not* all) players would rather the challenge of designing an amazing costume than duking it out in the arena.

    <snip>

We continue to plead the case of the remaining PVP Community to the development team. I continue to push for changes to PVP to be made and improvements to be considered (Keep in mind, improvements in recent memory such as the individual settings for Arena matches were done in one developers spare time, after hours.) There are ideas, and even devs who really want to do things with PVP, but *anything* we would consider requires code work, possibly animation work, and definitely a significant amount of systems designer work. The designers, engineers and artists are already tasked to the max, already working multiple hours of OT and already pushing extremely hard just to get the content we are working on out the door to the players.

There is no lack of desire to do something, anything, with PVP. There is a difficulty proving that it's better to work on PVP over a new Powerset.
  22. On my little anime-inspired TW/Elec brute it looks outstanding in action.
  23. Pulled my Plant/Psy/Fire Dom out of mothballs to get my Hybrid T4 and experienced this several times. If you pop RotP and have enemies near it's a suicide button. Untouchable my fiery ***.

  25. Superman was an alien and he most definitely was/is a superhero so I don't get that argument at all. Lots of the comic book villains and heroes were aliens and/or derived their powers via alien technology of some kind as well.

I've made exactly one each of a Peacebringer and a Warshade. I played them in tri-form years ago before IO's. I respecc'ed them both when IO's became available. I even made use of the various exploits with HO's that were supposed to make Peacebringers about even-par with Warshades.

But in the end, I just didn't find the jack-of-all-trades nature of either AT to be all the much fun. I like excelling at something on a team. Whether its holding aggro, max damage output, boss killing, lockdown or what have you I like min/maxxing my builds to do one thing very well. I never felt that was possible with the Kheldian AT.

So for me, they both got deleted in favor of other toons (after I gutted their IO's of course by burning every freespec they had accumulated). Even with the recent buffs, I still find them...lacking definition. I always felt like I was "pretending" to be a blaster (squid), a tanker (lobster) or a scrapper (human). It just didn't jive for me....felt very subpar to anything else I could possibly be playing. And when I found myself constantly wishing I was more of a blaster/tanker/scrapper, I realized hey...I can be. So I quit pretending and went and played the real thing.
