You can't convert an ATO into anything else BUT another ATO.
At least as far as I know.

OK so that answers my question then...I just mis-read posts by others that seemed to indicate that you could convert a Purple/Superior ATO into a straight Purple.
This also means the dozen or so Enh Catalysts I've earned on iTrials on a single toon are pretty worthless for now. I've already catalyzed 6 ATO's on this toon so all the rest are just...wasted. Can't trade them, can't sell them, can't even email them to myself. And can't cash them in on anything.
Sigh.
Just hold onto them. For there's always a chance that they could come out with another Brute ATO set someday, and that one would need catalyzed, right?

There's already a second set of ATOs in the works. They were placed on beta by mistake and someone posted screenshots on another thread.
Don't know when, but they are coming.
The Summer Movie Event will also have a special Damage Attuned Set that will drop as a reward, so it's not necessarily tied to archetype.
However, I don't know if this set will be able to be catalyzed or converted.

If you have 2 Brutes you can unslot and e-mail a set of Catalyzed Purple ATOs to Brute 2, and reslot a regular set on Brute 1 and use the excess catalysts that way. I have done that with my two lvl 50 tanks, so the new lvl 50 could immediatly have a purple ATO set.
