I agree with the OP. Breakfrees do nothing against Slow effects or -Recharge. I've had characters who couldn't finish missions at 0 Diff because of stacked effects such as this. I'm not asking for easier...I just want the challenge to be less annoying.
Simply don't allow their Glue Grenades to stack. They can still lay them down frequently but allowing them to stack them is insane IMHO. -
All of this and more are reasons the Base Builder's Committee is trying to raise Base and SG awareness. If you really want to help ensure we're heard go to the Base Forum and participate in our event now.

To the OP: Nice post!
I try to play most of my characters as their background dictates so I have Scrappers who Tank (because they're fearless), Defenders who Blast (because they're aggressive) and so on. I do have a few characters who haven't gotten into thair stride though and are still just playing their powers.
Tanks: Point-man. Sure, I can take out that whole room...if you want to wait all day. I'd rather jump in, say hi and then grin as the team's powers begin to glow while the enemy stares at me. However I take my Tanking VERY seriously so unless the team is good enough I want 5 seconds to grab aggro. And I always take Taunt.
Defenders: Although I often play these a little blasty I take the support role seriously as well. I look for teammates who need a buff, always debuff a key enemy and so forth. I'm not good at soloing these and prefer them on a team.
Controllers: The other set where I take the team role seriously. I see my job as guiding the pace of battle. Oh look, a runner. Nope...got him. Oh look, the Tank has a mountain of aggro...drop an AoE right on his mobs. I solo with these more than Defenders but still more fun on a team.
Scrappers/Blasters: Now these I can sut loose and have fun with. Team role? Oh yeah...do damage. I try to pick my targets but otherwise I just start hitting buttons. Nothing as cathartic as slaughtering mobs as one of these.
Masterminds: I almost exclusively solo with these because I can move at my own pace. Some are for assault, some are more refined in their tactics but all are fun.
Brutes: Scrappers...really BIG scrappers...with even more attitude! I make most of my Brutes larger than normal sized and make them live up to their name. With the Fury mechanic I like to just tuck my head down and go. Great for fast play.
Dominators: Really dangerous Controllers.
Stalkers: Precise Scrappers. Why slaughter the mob when the guy you really want is right over there?
VEATs: I run a few of these and I love them. All have character and background. Many have broken from Arachnos...or have they? -
My most recent 50, a DA/DM Tanker, had a slow attack chain so I went Rogue, did enough of GW's arc to get her Patron Power and did a respec. Now virtually everything on the character does damage.
Taunt is 4-slotted with Perfect Zinger including the damage proc.
Dark Regen also has the Zinger proc as well as the Touch of the Nictus Dmg proc and the Theft of Essence End Proc to prevent the End hit.
Siphon Life also has the ToE proc.
Cloak of Fear has the Glimpse Dmg proc.
Nt sure how unusual any of it is but it sure is fun for me! -

Another potential Primary for MMs: Arachnos Spiders. Think about it...with VEATs all the animations are done. So three Summon Powers, two Pet Buffs, the other four could be two Arachnos Gun ST attacks (or one ST and one grenade AoE ) and two other Pet-centric Powers.
-
I just want my Dark/Dark Blaster to have easy access to a self-rez from his PP. Ever since my 3/Fire got one I've believed every Blaster should have it.
After 50 and debt becomes meaningless an explosive self-rez has become part of my attack chain! -

Ok...Doms get a pass this time but that's because something else is in the works. I'll buy that.
As for the rest...WOW! Regen Brutes! Dark/Dark Blasters! The mind boggles! The changes to EA look nice too! And Sonic Res for MMs...my Fave AT!
Thanks for the heads-up!

News Flash! This just in: Avatea has promised costume codes for the top 3 entries and a gold in-game title for the winner! (Actual title to be announced)
In light of these new developments we will be extending the Avatar Contest to the end of July so get going people! Let's see what your devious and creative minds can come up with! -
My first hero was a rebirth of a Champions PnP game called Shocker (had to use Shocker Reloaded). He's a 50 Blaster now, Nrg/Elec. The only toon I would do a Powerset Respec on if we had them...as an Elec/Elec. Still love to play him too.
My first villian (and first CoH toon) was a SS/Invul Brute named Total Violence. Still one of my fave toons.
Both have tons of history and background and my story in the CityScoop was about Total Violence.
The powers and stuff are all cool but it's the RP and background that keep me coming back. -
I would rather see billboards on buildings than load screens etc. Some of the ones I've seen are funny and most of my time is spent in instances so I am not bothered by them.
Anything that brings in enough money to hire a team to work on Base and other fixes would be good for me.
Why are you all grabbing torches and pitchforks...? -
Placate Proc: A chance for a power to tap the enemy on the shoulder and say 'WOW! Look over there!'

Given a resource-based economy, that is, an economy where all resources are fairly shared by everyone, there is theoretically no limit to the human population. This is because if we live more efficiently and stop using so mmany resources blowing each other up the planet could support upwards of 10 billion people.
Also, if 10% of the resources currently used in warfare were devoted to research instead the amount of resources increases as mining and living in space become viable. -
I liked what Peregrine said at the end:
"Make it functional, expandable and customizable and I'll re-sub month after month to work on my Base."
Yeah...I'll /sign that. -
Quote:Okay....come up with a definition of "fun" that every single player in the game will agree with, and they might get on that for you.
One person's fun is another person's horrible waste of time. That isn't going to change, because it's human nature. No two people in the world will enjoy exactly the same things to the exact same degree, and have the exact same opinion on what is fun about it. It just won't ever happen.
"Make the game fun" is a ridiculous demand, simply because what is fun varies so widely from person to person.
If everyone enjoyed exactly the same thing there would only ever be one kind of entertainment in existence. One kind of video game. One genre of movie, one sport, one type of music, one book. It might even go even further and there would only be one example of any of those things. If everyone liked the same movie, and didn't like any other movies, what would be the point of making any other movies? If everyone liked WoW, and nothing else, it's unlikely that anything would exist BUT WoW.
The very fact that there is such a wide variety of things you can do to entertain yourself is, in and of itself, concrete proof that "Make it fun" is a completely impossible demand to meet.
Wow Claws...nice legal stance.
Ok...how about 'Check your data and see what people are running the most and complaining about the least. The MAJORITY of the players who do THAT are obviously having fun. How can we tell? Because they're running it a lot and not complaining. Try finding out what makes THAT so much more fun and make the game more like it.'
Happier now? Sorry if my time-pressure prompted me to end with a one-liner. -
As a person who is proud of being as unbiased as I can be in the media-swamped America, I stared at this picture for a full half-minute and here's what I got:
1) SP's face shows too much shock. For someone who's seen what she's seen a tad less might be better.
2) She has a nice rack. A bit too big for someone who regularly works out but then I'm a proportions guy with a GF who works out.
3) BAB got some COOL shades!
4) LOTS of action in the background. Heroes flying, fighting, burning death from the skies and all that.
5) BAB is really mad at someone.
6) I really wanna see more of the comic strip below. I mean REALLY. As my handle states, I LOVE comics, especially good comics. Especially good origin story comics.
7) Man I would NOT wanna get hit with those metal knucks!
8) Why is SP always the one who gets surprised or knocked down/out in pictures and video? The big vid with States and LR shows her bashed against a wall. I wanna see one where SHE gets to clobber someone and stay on her feet for a change.
9) SP has a nice rack.
10) Man do I wanna see THIS! If their ad guys were trying to get my attention they did it.
The closest thing that I got to sexist were 2, 8 and 9. Nowhere in my brain did I get to 'Wow...O face!' or 'His skin seems lighter. Shades of Michael Jackson?'
If a test of color pallettes reveals that his skin is lighter guess what? Mistakes happen. If the artist was told 'I want her to look shocked. As in 'WTF is going on it's the end of the world!' then that's what he drew.
Jeez people...not everything in the world is a conspiracy. It's a picture...enjoy it for what it is. -

As a person who deals with contractors in real life I can tell you that most of them probably haggle over each job. Standards may be anywhere from great to shoddy though so the buyer should beware. As in RL some 'professionals' will not be that good and some that say 'sure, I can help a little' might be great but humble.
Best way to find out is to go to a base built by the designer in question or at least request screenshots from them. -
Quote:The way to advance your Incarnate should be to play them through anything in the game.
Most sense I've read in days!
Rather than the Devs wracking their brains for Incarnate material, why not simply state that ANY material run at lvl 50 at +4/X8 Diff counts as Incarnate material? Have one mission worth 5 Threads, flat amount. 4 missions = 1 Common Component. Use only missions that can't be stealthed in some way to keep us honest. There...all set.
I can run 5 missions in an hour most days, including some travel time. In the same hour I can get at least 1 Common and an Astral so the pacing is about the same.
No new content to write and very little code. The people who want to run Trials once a day for the Eymperian or a chance at an Uncommon or higher can do so. The ones who want to try Incarnate stuff solo are happy to. So are the folks who like smaller teams and less lag.
IMHO the conversion rates still need adjusted but then I haven't looked at them since the patch. -
-
I agree and thank you for taking the time to run the test and post the results.
I solo a LOT because I play at odd hours. I also like to SEE the content as I go through it. I want solo TFs because I want to read the dialog and clues.
I can understand the pace the Devs have set but I don't agree with it. If they made the content more fun people would play it even without mega rewards. Look at the ITF...still one of the most popular TFs in the game. It's FUN! People play it because it's fun.
Make the game fun and we'll play it. Leading us around with shiny stuff behind locked doors is not the way to do things... -
To the OP: Great post. It's so easy to get lost in all the mechanics that we forget the story behind it all.
To me being Incarnate means to be More...but also Different. If you made Spider Man stronger, faster etc he'd basically be the same guy...only more capable. Now the changes in Tony Stark/Iron Man since Extremis (Tony is injected with nanites to save his life and become much more than human)...to me THAT'S an Incarnate story and a bag of chips.
I've never been comfortable with the idea of 'Gods' in stories as PCs. I see such powerful beings (Galactus, The Watcher, Fate, Eternity and so on) as being too big to fit into a specific role. They're better served as a plot device to get the ball rolling or steer the plot IMHO.
This is not to say that raw power doesn't add a sense of greatness in a character but by itself power is not enough. A character's ability to impact the world around him is a key part of how others see him. Sure, Thor can bring down lightning and shatter mountains but it's his nobility and courage that impress me. Captain America, long one of my favorite heroes, is a perfect example. He's more than a man thanks to the Super Soldier Serum. But it's what he's done since he was changed that makes him great to me. He's not bullet-proof, can't fly and can't survive in space. Yet to me his ability to lead and inspire others and the courage to fight all manner of strange enemies lifts him above normal men and even above many other heroes.
For me, it's the courage that makes a hero a hero. It's the deeds that hero does that makes him even more. -
Quote:I think this is the problem : too many try to find hidden purposes in simple complaints.
I can speak only for myself, but when I say:
- "I don't like that the final fight of this trial relies on healing so much", I am NOT saying "this trial is too hard" NOR "I want this trial to be easy".
"I don't like that the final fight of this trial relies on healing so much" means "I don't like that the final fight of this trial relies on healing so much".
- "I would rather see it work this way", I am NOT saying "the devs should change it to be this way" NOR "the game should be designed around what I want".
"I would rather see it work this way" means "I would rather see it work this way".
- "This mechanic makes very specific powersets much, much more useful than others", I am NOT saying "you have to have these specific powersets to succeed" NOR "no other powerset can do the task".
"This mechanic makes very specific powersets much, much more useful than others" means "this mechanic makes very specific powersets much, much more useful than others"
Finally, giving negative feedback on a specific mechanic doesn't mean one feels forced to do the trial, nor that they'll run it again.
If you stop assuming everyone who disagrees with you has some kind of hidden agenda, who knows, you might just find these complaints can make sense from a different perspective ; and if you still really can't see any value in that and keep getting frustrated, may I remind you that nobody is forcing you to read these forum posts? You won't even get a shiny costume or a lore pet for doing so.
I know *I* am not running Keyes twenty times a day.
Let me preface this by saying that I play a couple of hours, several days a week. I have not run the Keys Trial. I am a 40-something month veteran. And I'm an altaholic.
Remember all those requests for another ten levels? Raising the cap to 60 and beyond? What's the most common reason cited for not doing it? Right...the Devs would spend years writing the content only to have some players devour it in a month. We have the same situation here folks.
The Devs have spent the better part of a year writing end-game content because WE said we wanted it. The problem is that they can't properly pace things because they have to take into account every paying customer from the casual to the insane. They made the Trials shorter than most of the TFs because many of US complained that many of the TFs were too long. They gave us tremendous Powers that we can use outside the Trials but are hard enough to get that we actually have to work for them.
There's the problem right there....too many of us are treating it like work. "I HAVE to have my T4 Lore Power TODAY! I HAVE to unlock every costume part available THIS WEEKEND! Daddy I want an Oompahloompah NOW!"
WE are the ones creating part of this problem people. If it weren't for the fact that so many of us tear down the content road like speed-freaks the Devs MIGHT have dialed down the requirements for everything. Personally I'd have no problem with a costume set costing me a weekend's play. If I really want it, I'll do the content. But in part because of the few players chewing up 8 Trials a day the Devs have to raise the requirements on everything. Shards and Threads and Merits are the same way IMHO.
I know the horse is out of the barn and there's no way to go back. But maybe, just maybe, if we SLOW DOWN and enjoy the content once in a while the Devs will be able to worry more about WHAT rewards we're getting and not HOW FAST we get them. To me the former is the more important. -
This is a nice one Bloodspeaker! I have a simpler one in my own base but not with the colors and the orb in the middle. Very nice!
