sg bases can move to other servers?

Someone told me today they heard this announced somewhere, but I haven't been able to find the link for it. From what I've heard, in a few months, only the SG leader (of course) will be able to move their sg base to another server. Has anyone else heard of this??

iirc, there was a comment that they were going to look into it, or something of that sort of off-handed nature.

I can see the appeal -- particularly if there is going to be a VIP-only Server, as SuperGroups may choose to flee en masse to it in order to avoid the legions of Free-to-Play AE Babies that will doubtless descend across the length and breadth of CoX.

On the flip side, it generates so many "how would they handle..." questions and hurdles that I'm not sure it's really feasible. Anyone thinking about it for a few moments will realize some of them -- such as moving the SG to another server won't necessarily move the toons that are in it on the original server -- and I'm sure there's countless more like that lurking behind the scenes.

Supergroup Transfers (Including bases)
This is something we anticipated and are actively working on, but it likely won’t be ready for City of Heroes Freedom’s launch. We are committing to bringing you this service in the future and it won’t be just to the VIP server, it will be between any server. It will likely require the Supergroup’s Super Leader to actually execute the transfer.

Free accounts don't get XP from AE missions, per last week's Freedom Friday Q&A on Facebook.

It won't. You can't forcibly move someone else's character to a different server.

Exactly. Which is why if they do allow it, it will only be accomplished thru the SG Leader. They already established when they added that rank, that as far as they are concerned the SG Leader is the defacto owner of an SG and can do whatever the heck he pleases with the SG, it's base/contents, and membership.

They will not get involved in internal SG disputes as long as the rules of the EULA aren't violated.

For example just after the SG Leader rank went live there was a player that arbitrarily decided to kick everyone from "his" SG, delete the base and basically told the former SG members to go pound sand.

Last I heard he had done nothing wrong.

what i think would be a smart move is to make sg stuff into a global service

the sg will be created and globals can join the group, the leader will have a star and ALL of his toons automatically have leader abilitys (no more of the offline promotion junk)

this would also allow for cross server usage of the sg base as well as each person using less space in the sg since they have 1 global instead of 2 or more toons (in my sg i have 36 toons in the same sg, and several other members which have multiple toons in the group as well, which uses up a large amount of the max amount of characters an sg can have)

how the sg stuff as it is is very limiting and cumbersome and creates a lot of issues, if the sg stuff was changed to a global service it would also essentially be adding more global channels because of your sg and coalitions

however if making sg's a global service is too much work then making them transferable would prolly be the best option

All of this and more are reasons the Base Builder's Committee is trying to raise Base and SG awareness. If you really want to help ensure we're heard go to the Base Forum and participate in our event now.

It'll be interesting to see exactly what happens with implementation and when.

On another note, I'm still not sure how a "Zoolanderesque pose down" logo contest rocks the base building world but I think folks are pretty "aware" it's on by now. Hope the BBC has a guest judge in mind. Using David Bowie was a brilliant stroke in the film. Have fun with it.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.

Personally I would also like this, however I think that there are just as many people (if not more) who would not like it. Some people (especially RPers) will have different characters in different SGs that are suited to the different types of characters. The Repeat Offenders network is a good example, the different SGs within it have different AT/Powerset requirements (for example T.R.I.C.K only accepts characters with the Trick Arrow, Traps or Devices powersets).

I think a better solution would be to setup a system for offline invites/promotions and maybe increase the maximum SG size.

I bet a lot of abandoned SGs get taken over and then moved. Case in point, whoever stumbles upon it, sees they have the rights to it, and now want to move it to a different server since they might have moved on as well in terms of servers and are only coming back to check in on old characters that they haven't played in ages.
