I'm thinking no on that one.

Why do melee characters get status protection? Because they have no reliable ways of preventing them from happening.

Look at a Katana/Regen scrapper with Body Mastery. There is nothing in any of those sets that gives them any way of preventing an incoming mez effect. If they did not get passive mez protection they would be practically unplayable.

On the other hand, any controller in the game has the ability to lock down an enemy mezzer before they get mezzed themselves. Often before that enemy mezzer has even agroed on them.

It comes down to active versus passive protection. Those who cannot protect themselves from mez powers by actively preventing them get passive protection instead.

    Change Origin?

Bu what about the character who has the mutant ability to summon things from a pocket dimension? If he keeps his gadgets in that pocket dimension until he needs them, then Devices could very much fall into the Mutation origin.

Or a character who is a technomancer and has the mutant ability to control machines?

Sorry, I'm not going to agree that certain powersets should lock us into specific origins, simply because there are so many ways you can explain your powers. Being locked into an origin because we picked a certain set would just hinder our creativity.

What about a sword wielder? Should a sword set automatically be Natural origin? I don't think so. What about the magic sword that grants incredible combat skill? Or a tech sword that has a built in HUD that appears when you hold it's hilt? Or a Science sword that was developed specifically for the wielder's DNA? Or the Mutant that has the ability to form the molecules of their body into a sword shaped weapon? If you lock a sword set into being natural origin you invalidate all of those possible origins.

There are also the character's like my Broadsword/Dark Armor scrapper. He is magic origin, he has a demonically possessed sword that grants him the Dark Armor powers. If he is forced to be Natural origin becuase he has a sword, his backstory doesn't work anymore.

On the other side of it, who's to say your Captain Photon can't be Tech origin? Sure, maybe he IS a mutant, but requires tech based gauntlets to amplify his powers, which are too weak on their own to be effective in combat? (I have a character with a similar backstory to that)

Locking people into one origin because of their powersets just limits how creative they can be when creating their characters. The examples I gave here are just stuff off the top of my head. I can explain any power set with any origin, and the ability to do that should not be taken away from us.

    Wait, what?

So, Lightning Rod and Shield Charge teleporting you into melee is at times a BAD thing?

Even though all of the other attack powers in the sets those powers are in can only be used in melee range?

So, how exactly is teleporting to a place where you can actually use your other powers a bad thing? If your scrapper isn't in melee range, he is standing around doing nothing.
  4. Have you actually built this character in game yet?

Because I don't think Night Fall will accept Rectified Reticle in the game.

I find it hard to believe that someone would never get curious about what the tab called "Powers" on their window does. And that they would never figure out that they can drag powers from that window to their tray. They'd probably figure out they can drag powers around the tray by accident like I did at the very least. It's not a huge leap of logic to determine that you can drag power icons from other places as well.

It's pretty obvious that Inspirations brings up your inspiration trays and Enhancements brings up your enhancement trays. Anyone who has ever played a videoi game in their life is going to eventually figure that looking in the tab called "Powers" would be a good place to start to find powers they expect they should have.

I think you dramatically underestimate the average gamer's ability to figure things out.

This IS a community and social board rolled into one.

The fact that it also happens to be the game's official message board is not especially relevant.

It's not like we're discussing the finer points of quantum astrophysics here. We're talking about a VIDEO GAME. How serious do you really expect it to be?

    Essentially.

As Werner showed you, the DPS difference isn't that big, and Broadsword has a similar advantage in burst damage. i.e. the orange numbers will be maybe 20-30 points higher with the tier 8 and 9 attacks. But when both sets are hitting for 300+ with those attacks, 20-30 points isn't that big of a difference.

Broadsword is still just fine in terms of damage. The situations where it will make a difference are few and far between.

My Broadsword/Dark Armor just soloed Marauder as an AV a couple weeks ago, so BS isn't too shabby on DPS itself. (Marauder has a significant amount of Lethal resistance, so you need good damage to whittle him down)

No reason whatsoever to consider rerolling as Katana.

Edit: By the way, I like your avatar. GO BEARCATS!!!

    My sympathies.

I thought it was pretty funny how in the first couple weeks they were talking about how they couldn't keep the stores stocked with it. Then 75% of their players quit after the first month. I guess being a superhero's flunky isn't as fun as actually being the superhero yourself. That's whay I didn't want to play it at all, once I found out you spend the entire game in the shadow of the signature characters.

(Here, the signature characters generally stay out of your way)

    Hunt Guide?

If you don't have a problem with venturing into PvP zones Warrior Elites spawn all over the place in Siren's Call. There is a slight downside in that they are always going to be at least yellow. (so no easy kills on gray bosses in there). On the plus side, you'll get credit toward the Siren's Call time badges, and get cash and the occasional drop. (remember, bosses have a small chance to drop Pool C recipes if they are a high enough level to give yuo a reward)
  11. Ask in the scrapper forums down in Archetypes and Powers. You'll not only get a faster response, but the response will be coming from some of the most knowledgeable character builders in the game.

The first statement is WRONG. You can only get shards from enemies that are at least even level to you. What color they con is irrelevant. Incarnate levels do not affect eligibility for drops. Neither do the level shift inspirations.
    Actually, they weren't contradicting themselves.

In common terms, conning white = even level. Maybe you don't use that as a common term, but it is pretty generally accepted that if you say something is conning white, it means it is even level to you.

It's easiest to tell what your relative level is by what color the minions are. It's easier to remember that white = even, yellow = +1, orange = +2 than it is to try and remember a yellow boss is -1 while a yellow LT is even con, while an orange minion is +2.

I got what they meant right away.

    I have a Shield/SS, a Dark/Ice, and a WP/DM that all need some levels on them.
  14. I have a concept already for a SJ/EA scrapper.

Basically: Me, with a force field generating belt. Because I can throw a punch and fight dirty in real life, but I can't dodge bullets or get hit by 400 lb rocks and shrug it off in real life, so I need some kind of doodad.

    This stance confuses me.

Your subscription AND 1 or 2 boosters per year is all you're willing to spend.

When Freedom hits, you will pay your subscription, and have the ability to get MORE than 1 or 2 boosters worth of stuff a year for FREE. As mentioned elsewhere, you get 4800 points per year with your subscription, or a $60 value. That's the cost of SIX booster packs. In the course of that year, you can obtain nearly every booster pack that has been released so far, without costing you a dime above your sub fee.

You get that with your normal subscription fee, it does not cost you anything extra. How is that NOT "more than just access to the servers and the odd story arc"? (which is what we get with our subscription now, basically just access to the servers and whatever content the devs are releasing at the moment)

People want to make noise about paying for power sets. I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting Street Justice for free the day it goes live. I'll have the 800 points necessary to unlock it built up by the time it's released. There's nothing else in there I particularly want, so I have no qualms with dropping 800 points on a power set, especially since those 800 points didn't cost me anything in the first place.

I have no use for a Beam Rifle, and I'm getting Time Manipulation for free like everyone else. I might get Titan Weapons, but I'm assuming it will be a few months before that's released, and I should have another 800 points saved up by then.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm still getting plenty of stuff for free. Free being defined as "it doesn't cost me any more than I'm already paying".

They don't get access to any of those powers to begin with, so getting powers that you need to have other powers in the pool to unlock is an impossibility.

It probably would have been brought up if PvP weren't a shadow of it's former self.

I still do it occasionally, but it's not nearly as fun as it used to be.

It should be working all the time. As far as I know all that is required is for the power to be active, not for it to have targets in range.

  20. Yeah, that guide is a little outdated, but nothing has really changed about either set that makes it invalid.

If you're just looking for basic information about the sets it all seems to still be relevant.

It probably won't help you much with a high end IO build, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for anyway.

Well, since you can soft cap an SR long before level 50, Aid Self will still be useful until you get to that point.

It also remains useful if you ever exemp below level 45 as well.

You can pop a blue, because it isn't recovery, it's a straight up addition of endurance, in the same way that using a green inspiration does not count as regeneration, it's a heal. Not being able to recover endurance just means that your normal endurance recovery will not function for 10 seconds, things like blue inspirations, Transference (from Kinetics), and the Performance Shifter Chance for +End will still give you endurance.

No amount of popping blues will prevent your toggles from dropping when Elude crashes, since your endurance drops to 0 regardless of how much you have. If you pop a blue just before your end crashes, you've basically just wasted an inspiration, because it will take away the endurance you just gained with the crash.

At the high end, you are basically accepting a penalty if you want to use secondary/power/epic/patron pool powers.
I only have a couple characters that use weapons. Claws isn't so bad because the redraw is pretty quick. My BS/DA scrapper only has one power that causes redraw: Dark Regeneration (and I don't have a problem with pulling my sword back out after a heal that big)

All in all, redraw doesn't bother me that much. That said, however, I won't be rolling a Dual Pistols/Trick Arrow/Mace Mastery corruptor anytime soon.

There's also the fact that BaBs designed Walk in his spare time.

It was never an official project, BaBs took it upon himself to design the power on his OWN time as something nice to do for us.

Since it was never officially on record as being an assigned project, it is not at all surprising that they aren't going to go in and recode every animation in the game to work with it.

What would make you upset if you had to pay for it?

    - New Archetypes unavailable through any other means than real money.

    - Anything offered as a real money exclusive item that gives your character a noticable advantage over those without it (like a max HP cap increase that you have to buy, or paying for a higher damage modifier). I do NOT want my characters' performance in the game to be dependant on how much real money I can afford to dump into the game.

Cosmetic items as real money exclusives I can live with, they don't affect what your character can do. My character performs no differently without that spiffy costume piece than he does with it, so if I don't want that piece it affects nothing. A purchased power advantage would be a deal breaker for me, and one of the few things that may prompt me to quit the game for good.
