I thought PSW is the only one getting it's damage reduced? And that the overall damage increase affects all powers equally?
As far as Combustion is concerned, I'd much rather they give it the Midnight Grasp treatment along with the animation for Irradiate. I might actually take the power on some of the characters that have it available then.
And it was gotten backwards. The increased recharge is because of the increased damage, not the other way around. -
How would I go about binding forward movement and a fly emote to the same key?
I've tried a bunch of different variations on it and can't find one that works.
I'm guessing that if I got it to work the forward movement would always work, but the fly emote would only work while flying? -
Thanks Jock. You basically showed me that I'm doing things pretty much right on my Rad/Sonic.
Minor differences: I didn't take EM Pulse or Choking Cloud as I Hover and Fly and avoid melee like the plague. I looked at it and realized that Ranged defense is a LOT easier to come by on a Rad/Sonic and RI doesn't quite floor their accuracy (speaking of AVs in particular here) -
I am the following:
Concept Artist
Combatant (I think Tripp actually got the name for that playstyle from me)
Wanderer
Daredevil
Soloer
Grouper (SMALL groups, I dislike running on large teams unless it is required for the task at hand) -
Heh, my level 28 Gravity/Ice will be able to solo after ths goes live. I have no problem controlling, but damage is kinda weak to the point that I eventually run out of control because the damage wasn't enough to kill the mob.
To the people complaining: How about you PLAY WITH THE DAMN CHANGES BEFORE FLIPPING OUT.
I'm okay with the recharge being higher on my Ice Sword Circle, I really don't use it all that much anyway, and now when I DO use it, it will hit harder (when solo there usually aren't enough mobs in one place often enough to justify a high end cost AoE) -
No end usage problems. Nothing has changed at all to my knowledge. I think you are just used to playing your high level (maybe tricked out) characters, so it seems higher in comparison.
It's kind of like being used to a Formula 1 car and then getting into a Corvette and saying: "Man, this thing is SLOW!"
If you're playing a Dark Armor anything, try not to use Dark Regen too oftenThat one IS an end bar killer.

Depends on the power in question.
For example: The ST immobilize and hold in Gravity have a base accuracy of 1.20 (that's a 20% better accuracy than normal, translates to 90% base to-hit) For those powers, only one accuracy is fine. However the AoE hold has lower accuracy than normal, I use 2 or more for powers like that.
Check the accuracy rating on your powers before you decide how many to slot. -
It's an insane combo. With a little bit of support (just a little bit) you will be a damage dealing monster.
Mine is currently only level 33, so I just got some slots in my nuke and don't have Power Sink or Shocking Grasp yet.
He's still a beast, even missing a couple powers. -
"mex resistance"? Is that the ability to not get gas from Mexican food?

a version of the old ff repulsion bomb that knocks enemies away from every ally in a targeted radius
[/ QUOTE ]
Because that wouldn't quickly become a contender for most annoying power in the game? They changed that power for a reason. I don't know anyone who ever even had it before they did.
I get what you're saying, but you're being a little vague. Give us a more concrete idea of what kind of set you want to see and we can give a more informed opinion.
"targeted AoE buffs and heals" could cover such a WIDE range of effects that there is no way anyone can even make a guess as to how good or bad a set may be. More explanation would be nice. -
Did you think about how overpowered that would be? Not joking here, or bashing an idea just to bash an idea.
I have a Sonic/Devices hover-blaster with softcapped ranged defense. The ONLY weakness he has is a vulnerability to status effects. I can already avoid melee 99% of the time, so that's not an issue. If I was given the option of taking a power pool that granted status protection AND the ability to dish out mezzes as well, ON TOP of the mezzes I already have access to (2 stuns, KB, AoE sleep, ranged hold from APP, another sleep in APP, etc.) I would quite literally never die. Getting chain mezzed and not being able to use my more powerful attacks and mezzes is the only thing that gets me killed as it is.
Okay, a controller. Massive mezzing capability. Add MORE mezzing capability AND protection from it? Any controller that knows what they are doing can avoid mezzes most of the time as it is.
Making it a power pool would necessitate that everyone be given access to it. Including Kheldians.
The weaknesses the ATs have, they have for a reason. A fire/kin controller that is immune to being mezzed and has even MORE mez capability would be overpowered and I think you know it. My blaster example as stated above would be just as overpowered.
Also, controllers already have mez protection in the Psychic Mastery APP. -
Downside(because there has to be one): Any set based around ally-targeted AoE buffs and heals would be fairly weak in the actual effect of them to balance the fact that you would be affecting many targets at once. You won't be seeing an AoE with the strength of Fortitude or Adrenaline Boost.
Kind of like how AM is not as potent as Speed Boost, but has a damage bonus component in it, and a long recharge. And the pair or RAs does less together than one Adrenaline Boost.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the idea, just pointing out the downside of a set like that. -
Also, depending on what level the character is who has the name you want, it may open up next time they do a name purge. Which is to say, they periodically free up names below a certain level on accounts that have been inactive for more than X amount of time.
However, I am not sure what level the cutoff point is, what the minimum inactive time is, or when the next name purge is going to be. -
I'll second what CoF said. The variety of things I can play as is what has kept me here this long.
You could have 3 defenders with 3 different powersets. They all have the little blue shield next to their name, but their playstyle and strengths and weaknesses are completely different.
You could have an Empathy defender, which is one of two healing sets available to heroes. In the early game their healing ability is very useful, but as they get higher in level the heals get less useful as their teammates get more self sufficient. To make up for that, in the higher levels they get access to team buffs that are just awesome. A Blaster with Adrenaline Boost, Fortitude, Clear Mind, and both R Auras (Regen and Recovery) cast on him is a force of pure destruction.
Then you have Radiation Emission defenders. They have a minor heal aura, but they shouldn't ever be forced into the role of healer. In fact, if they do their job well and everyone knows how to work with one, you won't need a healer at all. Their strength is debuffing enemies. Anything a Rad defender is focusing on will have its accuracy nearly floored, will take more damage, will deal less damage, and will be easier to hit, on top of being slowed and having pretty much zero regeneration.
Then you come to Kinetics. Their strength is buffing their teammates. They also have a minor heal, but it requires a target, and only affects allies within melee range of their target. They have two of the most potent buffs in the game. Speed Boost, which is exactly what the name implies, and Fulcrum Shift. Speed Boost increases run speed, recharge and endurance (mana) recovery. Fulcrum Shift is a power that debuffs the damage of any enemy near your target and transfers it to any ally within 25 feet of the targeted spawn for 30 seconds. It turns ANY archtype into a damage monster for a little while.
That's just an example of 3 powersets in ONE archtype. I didn't even get into secondaries. There are 14 archetypes in the game (4 of which are unlocked by getting characters to 50, 2 hero, 2 villain) and every one of them has at least 6 primary and at least 6 secondary powersets. And they all play differently, from a slight difference, to almost a completely different playstyle.
Your appearance is completely up to you, and CoH has probably the best character creator on the market currently.
There are very few truly BAD powers in the entire game. There are a number that aren't very popular, but for the most part everything in the game can be used by SOMEONE. The line between archtype's jobs is frequently blurred depending on how the character was built. A dark/dark defender can fill any one (or more) of a number of roles. Scrappers can light-tank if needed. If you have a good controller you don't even need a tank if you don't want one. Only a very few things in the game require a certain team makeup, and even then the requirements are pretty loose. For most high level Task Forces (Strike Forces if you're a villain) you'll want a tank, damage, and buffs/debuffs. The best part is, even then it's all optional. You can run a TF with all defenders or all controllers, or any mix of ATs you can think of and do just fine.
I've written enough about it now, the only thing for you to do now is log in and see what we all mean for yourself.
Welcome to City of Heroes/Villains! I hope your stay is as long and enjoyable as mine has been! -
My sonic/devices is a mutant. His sonic powers are the only thing granted to him by that mutation. The Devices, Flight, Munitions mastery, and everything else, are all technology derived.
The question here really is: How do YOU think your character shoots lasers out of his eyes? -

Just a wild guess here. Think that had anything to do with this thread?
Naaaaah, couldn't have. -
Oh, sorry guys, didn't mean to interrupt your argument there.

Anyway this blizzard disappearing is minor in the grand scheme of things, it's just disappointing to see a beautiful nuke like it go away in the off chance the caster is defeated.
[/ QUOTE ]
And if you are defeated before Inferno finishes it's animation it does no damage. Same goes for any other nuke. If you are defeated before it resolves it does not have it's effect.
Umm, what's the problem here? You're complaining that Blizzard acts exactly like other nukes?
If you are dying before Blizzard finishes it's 15 second animation, that is YOUR problem, not Blizzard's -
My issue isn't with the broadcast babbling, I keep it in my upper chat window and ignore it most of the time.
My issue is with hearing stuff like:
How do I get another costume?
How'd you get that cool aura?
How do I get to Kings Row?
What's agro?
Where do I buy enchantments?
What's a Task Force?
What are these Malta guys and why do they keep taking my blue bar?
I ran across a scrapper a while back who had: Focused Fighting, Agile, and Practiced Brawler (that they never used) and nothing else from their secondary of Super Reflexes. They had 3 travel powers, opened with Flurry, Jump Kick, and TP Foe respectively. No Fitness Pool. The 4th pool was Presence. The sad part was they really didn't understand why at level 50 they kept dying. They actually said: "These enemies are too hard! Why aren't the AE enemies this HARD?!"
All those things were ACTUALLY said in broadcast in Atlas Park by level 50 characters. I wish I had saved the chat logs for verification. My issue with the AE farms was simply that they churned out a bunch of brand new level 50 characters in a matter of days played by people with NO CLUE how to play the game.
Leveling normally, you learn all that stuff as you go along. Most of the knowledge asked for in broadcast by level 50s is stuff that you would learn by accident while leveling. -

Powerleveling used to be confined to Peregrine Island and Grandville. If a new player found it, it is because they were looking for it. Post Issue 14, it was almost impossible for a new player to not get sucked into AE power farms.
In the end, City of Heroes is a business venture, anything that could reduce the life of the game by even one month needs to be smashed immediately (Anything that is under the Devs' control, obviously. They can't simply crack down on the Economy or the competition). The real crime on the Devs' part was that it took the Devs three weeks to start the smashing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed.
The majority of the people complaining about the smashing of AE farms are not looking long term at all. They are looking at "I WANT MAH 50 NAO!!!!"
I've said as much in other threads. CoH does not have a whole lot of advertising out there. Most people I know who play, started playing because a friend recommended the game.
If the devs had never cracked down on the AE farms you would have people saying to their friends (who might have tried the game) "Don't waste your money on that game, you get to the level cap in 2 days and then there's nothing to do."
If someone told ME that, I would be much less inclined to spend my money on that game. I'm sure at least a good chunk of the playerbase would agree with me there too.
As the game gets older, the veteran players start spending less time in game, and gradually start leaving for other things. Not quickly, but eventually (if there were no new players) the subscription numbers would drop to a point where the game would be shut down.
If all the new players know is AE farming missions and don't even know where Cimerora, RWZ, Peregrine Island, or Grandville ARE, let alone know what there is to do there, they are going to get bored really fast and tell their friends the game sucks because you get to the end in hours and there's nothing else to do.
The devs aren't trying to punish people, they're trying to protect their game and their jobs in the long term. Because what seems harmless now can do a lot of damage over time, and the devs are very likely to be fully aware of that. -
Ummm, any map made for the normal game can easily be added to MA, and vice versa. You're missing the obvious compromise point here. More maps for both.
The downside to adding new maps to the regular game is it will take longer to implement them. What good is a mission map with nothing on it? Somebody's gotta write the mission that takes place there. In the MA at least it's US writing the mission, so it could happen faster.
I'm still annoyed about the removal of the burning forest map because it was an integral part of one of my arcs and now I have to rewrite the entire middle section so it will still make sense. Taking away maps because people were using them for farm missions was one of the worst ideas they've had with MA yet.
Maps we need still:
Frostfire's lair
Croatoa (Winter)
ITF maps
Hess TF final map
Any unique maps found in a TF or SF
I have ideas that could use any one of those maps. Give us maps that already exist that we don't have access to first, THEN work on new ones. -

Since a few weeks before Issue 7 was released. I started playing just after CoV was released. So I remember stalkers one-shotting from hide. My forum reg date is about 3 months after I started playing.
I'm guessing the only reason I never saw anyone using that exploit before is because I only PvPed when I was in the mood for it, in other words, inconsistently. -
I'm working on building my Rad/Sonic toward AV/GM soloing whie simultaneously being as much of a cheapskate about it as possible. The only purple set he's getting is the sleep set because, well, it's cheaper than Posi's Blast and better than any other sleep set.
I'd like to build my baby MA/Shield into an AV capable character, but that's going to be expensive and it's not a priority.
My Sonic/Devices blaster is the closest to being able to do it currently, he has the endurance recovery and the damage output in spades, the only one of the crucial trio he lacks is survivability, which will be solved when I finish softcapping his ranged defense (I hope)
My wife built a DB/SR without Aid Self that I believe can solo a few AVs and she did it almost by accident. I already watched her pull off the RWZ Challenge on her first try. It's actually really funny, she prefers blasters and I prefer scrappers, yet her scrapper is better than any of mine (except arguably my main), and my blaster is better than any of hers (except arguably HER main). Go figure. -
Usually Mountain Dew or Full Throttle, occasionally Dew Amp.
If I'm trying to unwind after a long day I'll have a mixed drink I created myself. I'll share it with you.
Blue Tarantula tequila (it's a citrus flavored one), Blue Hawaiian margarita mix, and Full Throttle Blue Demon (it's blue agave cactus flavored, which is what clear tequilas are made with) Mix equal parts in a rock glass and add just a splash of lemon juice. It's an awesome drink that, because of it's sweetness, hits you a lot harder than you think it is. I'll also add a splash of Mtn Dew Voltage if I have any on hand.
