Delete toon on different account
You might luck out with another re-activation weekend that allows you to log into your old account without actually resubscribing. You could probably do it then. We actually just had one a month ago for the anniversary though, so there might not be another one soon.
<ul type="square">[*]Besides that, you can also go into your game account on the NCSoft site and select the "Invite a friend back" option on the right side and send the code to yourself. Then you can use the code to reactivate your old account and make your character changes without costing anything.[/list]
Well, there's nothing stopping you from asking. I'd be suprised if they did it for you, but it never hurts to ask.
Other than resubbing the old account you could wait until a free activation weekend rolls around. I couldn't tell you when the next one of those would be. There was one when I14 came out to show off the MA, I doubt I15 will have one though. Maybe the next 2xp weekend?
At least you know nobody will take the name from you in the meantime.
edit: Completely beaten to the punch. And with better info too.

Oh! That is a great idea! Do we get a month free for inviting a friend back? If so then I could break even.
I think I'll try that. Thanks.

[/ QUOTE ] If the old account was dormant for more than 90 days, and you actually resubscribe the old account for at least a month, there is a free month involved, but in the form of 15 days added to each account. The "Invite a Friend" page when you send the code will explain it all.
Quoted from the "Invite a Friend" page (highlighted for easy reading):
[ QUOTE ]
When your friend reactivates their game account for a minimum one month of game time with a credit card or a 30-day or 60-day game time card, they will be invited to enter the Reactivation Credit Serial Code. Once this process is complete, you will each be credited 15 days of free game time to your City of Heroes®/City of Villains accounts. IMPORTANT: They must enter this code in order for you OR them to receive any credit. As long as they do enter the code, you will split the 30 day credit.
[/ QUOTE ][ QUOTE ]
* Your friend's account must be inactive for at least 90 days in order to be eligible. An indication that their account has been inactive for 90+ days will be displayed on their game account management screen.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also, depending on what level the character is who has the name you want, it may open up next time they do a name purge. Which is to say, they periodically free up names below a certain level on accounts that have been inactive for more than X amount of time.
However, I am not sure what level the cutoff point is, what the minimum inactive time is, or when the next name purge is going to be.

Level 6, either 90 days or one year (I think), and I think they tend to run it without telling us.

No, they do give advance notice. They haven't run it for quite some time, though.
It's inactive (non subscribed) for 90 days, and level 6.

MAYBE on the advance notice. They gave us warning that they may run it with no advance notice at some point in the future. So far, they have not done it without warning (as far as I know), but they said that they MIGHT.

I hate to say it, but it might be nice if they expanded that to not only include inactive accounts, but also inactive characters (with a significantly higher time limit, of course).
There's bound to be many of us (myself included) that have lost and forgotten characters on random servers that we haven't touched in years, even though our accounts have never gone inactive for an excess of 90 days.
(Or, you know, that one name I keep trying to get back that hasn't been logged in since before globals went in, but is apparently protected by the 90-day account limit.. *grump*)

That would be a big no from me. Perhaps I came up with a name a year ago, but none of the current powerset combination's available at the moment work for my concept to go with that name? I'd be peeved if, one day I logged in and saw Generic XXX XXX XXX.
If you have any Big Lots stores in your area check them out. You can often find box editions of CoH there for $10 or less. And there are all of the edition types with the exception of the Mac or Architect editions.
I've padded my account with all of the extra goodies that come with the various boxes that way.

On the other hand... if a dozen people came up with that name over the last several years, and eleven of them want to play it now, how much sense does it make for the person to get it being the one who isn't going to?
I team with the Repeat Offenders.
So I'm starting a new toon, and I have the perfect name for her. My only problem is the name is taken, by myself.
The toon I wish to delete in order to take the name is on my second account, which has been inactive for about a year.
So my question is this: Is it possible for me to somehow get in contact with the Devs or a GM and have them delete my toon without having to resubscribe?
I realize there is the whole "How do we know that's really your second account?" issue, and I'm not sure how I would prove it to them other than the fact that I know my username and password.
If not, guess I might as well resub.
