The reasons why I limit my Rikti mothership raids to level 35+ toons:
1. Rikti mothership raids were originally designed for level 35+ toons, as the Rikti War Zone was originally level locked to 35+ toons. IMO, it was a mistake by Paragon Studios to remove that level lock, but I digress.
2. You have to be level 35+ to obtain Vanguard merits, which is the whole point of Rikti mothership raids to begin with.
3. You're not going to contribute a whole lot, if anything at all, at level 15 or 20. In fact, you could be potentially taking a spot from a level 35+ player that would contribute to the raid's success, since the RWZ is capped at 50 people.
4. If I make an exception for one person to bring a lowbie, that opens a Pandora's Box. If I allow Joe Schmoe to bring a level 20 Brute, why should I not allow Tim Schmoe to bring a level 20 Controller? Then Jane Schmoe to bring a level 15 Tanker? Etc.
Regardless, my stance is not going to change. Anyone is welcome at my mothership raids, provided they are on a level 35+ toon. If they do not like that, they are free to lead a Rikti mothership raid of their own. -
I concur. I've lead Rikti mothership raids for over two years now. Pre-Issue 20, the net of Vanguard merits averaged about 550. Now, I've seen multiple nets of about 1000.
Both Judgement and the Clarion Incarnate powers help tremendously during Rikti mothership raids. Rebirth and Barrier do as well, to a lesser extent.
Most mothership raids I've lead also have periods with no Rikti in the bowl, so Brutes and Tankers will go up top and bring some down.
I know I've received some flack over this, but I think my limiting my Rikti mothership raids to level 35+ toons is a factor in our success as well. -
Excellent job last night, y'all. There will be no Rikti mothership raid next week as the Halloween content goes live on Thursday. See y'all in the Rikti War Zone in two weeks.

Quote:That's going to be a problem. All these time zone confuse and scare me....
But basically we just have to move things up by +6 hours so our EU friends can do these with us.
Most of the Stoned Templars are west coasters (myself and one or two others being the exception), so 10 P.M. ET is already early for them as it is only 7 P.M. PT. Moving Hamidon raids to 1 P.M. their time... Well, I just don't see it happening. And 4 P.M. ET on a Saturday is problematic for me as well.
Not to preclude anyone else from doing it, but I don't see it happening with the current crew. Sorry. -
Quote:Bingo. As with others, the ridiculously short notice, the timing, and the location (mainly the expense of getting there) all conspire to prevent me from attending.
Note to Paragon:
If you want to hold events in-game on a couple weeks notice or just pop them out ad hoc, that's your choice.
But trying to put on REAL WORLD events with a month's notice is basically telling people you don't REALLY want them attending.
This isn't you and the rest of the Paragon staff deciding to go out for a brewski after work, and this sort of off-the-cuff scheduling is ridiculous.
Let's be honest. This isn't a "Players Summit". This is a Bay Area Meet and Greet.
A month's notice is not nearly enough. Not nearly. And the weekend before one of the biggest holidays of the year? Are you kidding me?
I thought the notice before the previous HeroCons was short. This is just ridiculous.
My job requires a minimum of six month's notice before I can take a period of time (i.e. two or more days), off. I'm sure I'm not alone in that. -
Personally, I think Dual Pistols / Dark Miasma Corruptor is the way to go. You do a decent amount of damage, lets you get up to melee range in relative safety for the crashless nuke, the debuffs are yummy, and it doesn't require a lot of clicks.

I'll also say that I, personally, prefer to steamroll. Kill what's in the way, but don't go out of the way to kill things. However, most of my friends and SG mates prefer speed runs. I've been on 12 minute Eden trials, 17 minute ITFs, and 23 minute LGTFs. So, I'll deal with whatever. If I form a TF or trial, it'll be a steamroll run. If one of my friends forms a TF or trial, it'll most likely be a speed run. I'm down with either.

I'll copy & paste what I posted in a thread on my old server's forum last week:
Exalted is the America of City of Heroes. It is the melting pot of servers. You have (a large amount of) people that emigrated from Freedom. You have people that emigrated from Guardian. You have people that emigrated from Champion. You have people that emigrated from Pinnacle. Etc. While we all play the same game, each server developed its own particular way of doing things. With people emigrating to Exalted from all these different servers, it's resulted in a bit of a culture clash. People want to do things the way they're used to doing them. Except everyone has done things differently.
So, right now, Exalted has a bunch of people that want to run the same content (whether it be ITFs, LGTFs, Hamidon raids, mothership raids, Incarnate trials, etc.), but are used to running it in one particular way. Most people are willing to listen to the leader, play nice, and try new ways of doing things. Unfortunately, you also have some stubborn people that say things like, "No. Back on Freedom, we did such and such this way. You can do it your way, and I'll be over here doing it the RIGHT way." Fortunately, that situation has been few and far between in my experience.
While Exalted is currently experiencing some growing pains from being the America of CoH, it'll settle down eventually, and get into its own groove. In the meantime, I'm actually enjoying it. It's been educational. We (The Stoned Templars) actually learned a couple of new Hamidon raid tricks from an experienced supergroup from the Pinnacle server that's been helping us lead Hamidon raids on Exalted, for instance. -
For over a year now, one of the very first things I do after making a new toon is remove the Help channel from the global chat tab.

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I went through the tailor in RWZ, everything appeared to be working, no errors popped up, but as soon as I saved the costume and went back to the game... nothing changed. :\

If you have any spare Essence of the Earth inspirations, please bring them with you tonight, as we're going to have to clean up some leftover jello from a failed impromptu blue side Hamidon raid last night that someone else lead. Unless we get enough people to spawn a Hive 2, but we didn't the past two weeks.

HiJackThis is not very helpful on 64 bit operating systems, as it gives a lot of false errors, as evidenced by iBuds' log above.
Anyway, did you take my suggestion that I gave last night and try starting City of Heroes in safe mode, Buds? -
Personally, I'd skip Pistol and Empty Clips. I skipped them both on my level 50 DP / Dark Corruptor, and don't miss 'em. Bullet Rain is too good, especially if you have the Reactive Interface and you put a Ragnarok knockdown proc in it.
-
My next project is going to be a Dual Pistols / Mental Manipulation Blaster that makes extensive use of the Concealment Power Pool. Don't ask.
Anyway... I know absolutely nothing about Mental Manipulation, and in my six years of playing CoH, never managed to get a Blaster above level 20, so I'd like some advice. What are the must have Mental Manipulation powers, what are the decent Mental Manipulation powers, and what are the Mental Manipulation powers best avoided? -
Quote:People who like to unlock more task forces?feh. I would just get to 10 and start doing task forces. Who needs contacts?
I always find it amusing when people broadcast that they're forming an Ernesto Hess or a Katie Hannon Task Force... then say they need someone to start it. -
Just a reminder that there will be a blue side Hamidon raid tomorrow at 10 P.M. ET / 7 P.M. PT!

Quote:You're crying because you can't find people to PL you while you doorsit? Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.Constructive post is constructive? Yes mine's about farming, what the Dev's loathe, but really. I like to sit in a big cave farm, and afk as I lvl. So I can do other things, now I wait around for 2 hours trying to get a farmer and fail. AND before you go "goplaythegameinsteadofwaiting" So I get a lvl that I can prob get in a short farm in 8 minutes?

Quote:This is one of the other reasons why I moved to Exalted. Everyone on the server is on equal footing, for the most part. Everyone can do the same content. Everyone can send and reply to tells. It just makes things easier.I've been going out of my way to group with brand new f2p players. It's kinda difficult since they, y'know, can't answer tells or anything.
The way I've been doing so is by sending tells to players in the 'Search' window asking them if they'd like to group with me. If, after a minute or so they haven't responded, I'll send them an invite.
However, you're never given any kind of warning that a player can't send tells if you send them one and they don't have access.
This evening, using this 'hesitant blind invite' method, I grouped with a new storm corrupter in King's Row. She'd been playing the game for three days and was really enjoying it. She'd made a really good lizard woman costume and wrote an interesting bio.
I'd already run into a few frustrations trying to drop inspirations on her when she was low on health and being told she didn't have permissions to trade. But what really took the cake for me was when I sent her a tell praising her costume and bio. I realized after a few seconds she probably wouldn't be able to respond. However a few seconds later she sent a message to the group window saying, "Thank you! I'm sorry I can't figure out the tell interface."
"If you hit backspace, you can reply to tells," I responded. "But you may not have access to it if you're a free-to-play player."
"That's probably it. I'm poor." was her response.
I grouped with her for quite a bit more during the evening, and was very careful to let her know exactly what was going on since she was a new player. The whole time I was seething.
By keeping BASIC chat functionality away from f2p players, I realized, the restrictions are also making the game more difficult for me. I'm a paying player, a 'VIP', yet I have to go through EXACTLY the same hoops to communicate that f2p players do.
This needs to be fixed.
In addition to a 'Free to Play' channel, we need an option like 'Receive tells from free players'. At the very least, if I, the paying VIP, send a tell to a free player, they should be able to respond to me. -
I personally always slot for 12 points of knockback protection. While 4 points will protect you from 80% of the knockback in the game, 12 points will protect you from knockback from Rikti pylons and Hamidon, among others.

I'm a casual PvE power gamer. A contradiction, I know. I am a contradiction, lol. By "casual PvE power gamer," I mean that I come up with a concept for a toon, and then min-max the toon to be as effective as possible without going against the toon's concept. How many min-maxers do you know that had Fly pre-issue 21? Lol.
I'm also like a Cylon. I have a plan. I almost completely solo on every toon before level 32 or so, and focus on one toon at a time. When I make a new toon, I:
1. Go through the tutorial
2. Run the Atlas Park mission arcs (Matthew Habashy, Sondra Costel, and Aaron Thiery)
3. Farm the new sewer trial until level 14
4. Run Montague Castanella's mission arc
5. Run the Fautline mission arcs
6. Run Mercedes Sheldon's mission arcs
7. Run the Striga Isle mission arcs
8. Run the Talos Island mission arcs (Keith Nance, Jenni Adair, and Roy Cooling)
9. Run the Pilgrim's mission arc
10. Run the Croatoa mission arcs
11. Run the cape and aura missions
12. Run Percy Winkley's mission arc
13. Run various task forces until level 42
14. Run Tina Macintyre's mission arc
15. Run various task forces until level 50
16. Run the old Maria Jenkins mission arc via Ouroboros
17. Run Mender Ramiel's mission arc
18. Run Incarnate trials until my eyes bleed
I still haven't decided if I'm going to bother with the First Ward mission arcs yet. I already have to turn off XP twice to finish the level 20 - 29 content mentioned above. :\
I also enjoy the occasional raid. It helps balance out all the soloing I do. I lead Rikti mothership raids on Thursdays, and help lead blue side Hamidon raids on Saturdays. -
The Rikti will come out tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there'll be Rikti.
