  1. Who knew that the ability to act well with babies was a critical part of playing the Doctor?

Of course, that is why he usually travels around with a human...

Such a sweet episode. Stormaggedon: Lord of Darkness, totally ruled.

The only clunker for me was the extended gaydar failure on the part of the saleslady, Val. That got annoying quickly.

  3. Currently listening to the Green Album, so I'm getting a kick, etc.

    Hey, Mr. Bassman
    Mahna Mahna
    Muppets Theme
    Rainbow Connection
    Movin' Right Along
    Halfway Down the Stairs

    All awesome.
  4. No contest: Dr. Graves.

In nearly seven years playing I have never quit an arc midway because it was so bad.

Dr. Graves has changed all that.

I am willing to watch his story arc sit there and rot for eternity if it means not having to interact with the stupidity again. Badges? Merits? I don't care if it rewards rainbows and puppies, I'm not finishing it and I'm never re-playing it.

Bad characters, bad writing, bad editing, insulting assumptions, railroading dialog trees, misplaced mob markers- if there's something that can be wrong with an arc, Graves has it. I would cheerfully do any of the Shardow Shard TFs before running Graves again.
  5. Good ep. I thought I caught a little of River's theme when the Doctor opened his door, but maybe I misheard.

I am amazed at how Rory continues to improve in every episode. Give him another season and he'll be too awesome to contain in one show.
  6. I personally prefer Granny Weatherwax's definition of evil, from Carpe Jugulum:

    Quote:
"It's not as simple as that. It's not a black-and-white issue. There are so many shades of gray."
"There's no grays, only white that's got grubby. I'm surprised you don't know that. And sin, young man, is when you treat people as things. Including yourself. That's what sin is."
"It's a lot more complicated than that-"
"No. It ain't. When people say things are more complicated than that, they means they're getting worried that they won't like the truth. People as things, that's where it starts."
"Oh, I'm sure there are worse crimes-"
"But they starts with thinking about people as thingsĀ…"
So for me, redside characters ultimately view people as things. Perhaps not all people, but certainly most and usually all.

Note that under this view, villains don't need a 'master plan'. Not every character that plays redside needs to be someone out to Change the World. There's plenty of room for petty and stupid evil.

Wretch certainly doesn't have a plan that changes the world. But he's a Villain. Your typical mad serial killer is very definitely a villain. Look at Cap'n Mako or Crosscut as examples.

I think it's a neat idea to give characters a goal to work towards, especially with the new world-changing technology in the game.

But I don't think every villain is out to change the world. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

  7. I ran Graves' first arc last night and I agree with and endorse everything Sam said.

Railroading characters into saying, doing, and thinking (!!!) things the story wants for its own sake is both bad writing and bad GMing. Graves should be named Marty Stu, just so we're all on the same page with the level of maturity displayed towards the player character role in the story.

Were this an AE arc, I would be Zero-starring it and recommending to everyone that they steer clear of it.

Instead, I'm posting here. Unless your character is meant to be a two-bit twit, steer clear of this arc. Because that's how you're going to be treated.
  8. Statesmonkey will be proud to join a group of like minded heroes. It's good to see more people getting in touch with their Stateshood.

    Coincedence?

Yep, punted me just after I finished my respec.

Could be worse, could've been during.

I think it's just too much concentrated awesome from the returning folks.
  10. Spite?

    Against Belle? O.o

It's hard to wrap my head around that idea.

Belle, I hope you get your name back. The amount of goodwill you've generated over the years should belong to you and only you.

As an aside, I was told the other day that there's actually a Casual Player character running around Infinity. I was flattered. It's hardly a name I'd consider unique enough to worry about and I trust the player I was told was running him to not do anything untoward. But FYI, if you see him, it's not me.
  11. This seems like the right thread for this:

There is NOTHING "micro" about a $10 median price point when that same $10 can get you a monthly sub AND the $5 in bribe points.
    It's...

    It's almost as if...

The Devs WANT you to subscribe!

    *gasp*

    DIABOLICAL!
  13. Huh.

You people must be playing a different game than I am.

I've forked over no actual money whatsoever.

Yet, I've gotten a new account-wide powerset, a new account-wide flight power, and a new costume piece.

And I have 500 points of play money left over to trade for whatever's coming out in the rest of the month.

Nothing has changed in the game for me other than the addition of a new type of loot and a new market to spend that loot in.
  14. Ditch the world-beating power, cape and wrestling shorts and the basic premise seems good to go in today's TV. Somebody's betting that ghosts are the new zombies (which were the new vampires).
  15. I tend to linger in character creation for quite some time, tweaking the costume around until I get it just to my liking. (Then I generally don't mess with it thereafter- I'm not a Bat-Cold-Repellent-Costume kind of guy.)

So I got to hear the new music quite a bit today. And I want to thank whoever made it, because it is awesome! Really good work, guys. It still keeps the themes of the original music, but improves on them in almost every way.

    /em applause

    Updater..not

I can't even get into the loop.

NCSoft Launcher has an update, do you want to update, click yes, then:

"Download failed! Error - The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.) (null)"

/edit: half hour later, it seems to be fixed. Go, bugstompers, go!.

They are probably trying to fix that, but the web site keeps logging them out.
Fortunately, they are aware of the problem and are diligently forwarding every reported instance of the occurrence upwards in hopes of a fix.

    Someday.

When they announced that the points would be front-loaded, I budgeted to purchase a 1-year subscription and an additional $100 worth of points. This would not quite put me in tier 9, but would set me up to get there next month. This announcement irritates me enough that I will withold that $250...for now...
Maybe Lothic wasn't saying it, but I will: NO, those are not good reasons to decide whether to continue to play. They're not giving you enough free stuff in the way you want it? Pfft. That is the second stupidest ragequit reason I've seen yet, right behind Westley's EULA quitting.

The ONLY question that counts when you decide whether to continue to play: are you having enough fun playing for the cost involved? This is neither rocket science nor SRS BIZNSS.

It's a game. Quit for a while and get some perspective if you need to, but don't fool yourself that you're quitting because of something the Devs have done.
  19. I think this guy already got the job...

    What, again?

    Over this?

Mmm, if that's the reason you want to tell yourself man, OK.

Be sure to drop someone a tell in broadcast now and then to let us all know what it's like as a Premium player now, will you?
  21. So much better than last week.

Seriously Who-makers, when you have to make a cheapo episode, do it like this one. Come up with a nifty time trick, stick your main characters in a box and let them work their way out of it.

Psychological thrillers are so vastly more entertaining than the ham-handed, "Please, won't somebody think of the CHILDREN?!" shows.
  22. Wow, I had no idea.

I truly enjoyed his posts and enthusiasm for the genre.

Farewell, Lord of Time, you will definitely be missed. I hope your next regeneration is a great one!

And likewise, I lost a good friend who was a big comics and CoH fan last year. He never posted here, but I got the word out on the forums he did frequent. I think the closure of goodbyes is just as important for casual friends as well as close ones.

Thank you, Turg, for getting the word out.
