Rogue does sound like the best choice for you. You still have Villain Contacts and run Villain arcs, but you can go hero-side where you can run paper missions, tips and join any Blue team running any sort of missions.

Quote:Happened to my Domi wither shockwave as well. Said the line but never attacked. Ai seemed to switch to just "follow me".This is the second time I've had this happen.
I was doing a Tip Mission where my allies of the moment are supposed to turn on me and attack me, but they don't when I'm playing a stalker ... and I can't attack them either.
Happened with Shock Treatment earlier and on a mission with BP Totems today. Has anyone else had this happen?
Only happens on stalkers for me. -

Quote:Me too, I went with a mustard yellow and indigo set up on bright Elec which reallyIt's like graphic design. Some people know how to color the powers in the way that make the whole look cool. Others make me want to each out and smack them. I know when I reworked Elec control I had to change it because it was an issue of color overload.
toned it down and looks well. Ditto with Ice Shields, a dark indigo makes them very minimalist, which is good.
Flames though always give me trouble. Still haven't managed to get a good looking, low impact "invisiflame" effect on my Broadsword/Fire scrapper. -
I hate this bug. Got my face staved in by a Tank Smasher running Keith Nances dam mission during the week because of it ("Why's he aiming towards me? Who's he firing that grenade at? OH GAWD NO.").

Quote:Have we moved onto rude puns about the wedding night yet, because I'm sure I can squeeze the phrase "kinetic energy" in there somewhere (oh my!)In short: Yes, it is.
In long form: "Speed Boost," in the sense of "a boost of/in speed" is a compound noun. If you're reading it as a verb, in the sense of "to speed-boost someone," then you are reading it as a slang shorthand. The proper phrasing of this as a verb clause is actually the inverse: "to boost speed." Now, "boost speed" itself can be read as a compound noun, but not within the context of Kinetics -> Speed Boost.
The proper question here should be how you can marry kinetic energy. -
Quote:Nope, I find them chronically bad too. Dunno who designed them or how THAT went live but they could certainly do with a redesign. Making it a Cossie Contest is a great idea (hello? Marketing? Are you listening? Put down that mojito and get to it)The color combos and general costume really just turn my stomach whenever I see them. I suggest having some kind of costume contest on the Test server where people show up in what they think a good merit vendor costume would be, then you either let them redesign the Merit Vendors, OR (and more likely) have the developers use that as a template to redo the Vendor designs. I think it would fix an eyesore and be a good chance to let the community have a say in what a small part of the game looks like.
P.S. I'm not the only one who finds the Vendors ugly, am I? -
Mind is an excellent solo set, it's got the best collection of single target mezzes going, some very useful AOE mezzes for a soloer (AOE Sleep and Fear Cone are fantastic solo) and it's also pure ranged.
NRG is a very hard hitting secondary and almost entirely single target so a Mind/NRG could solo with ease by locking down the entire spawn with a Sleep and then holding (or confusing) a target before smashing it to bits with ranged and/or melee attacks.
Plant is a different kettle o fish. A bit of a one-trick pony with Seeds (which is godly and comes really early) but average single target mezzes. It's a bit of an AOE beast though, the AOE immob does decent damage and Creepers loves a crowd. Plant/Fire would be a godly combo, but maybe not an ideal soloer (just because it's got so much AOE potential). -
Quote:This is exactly right. For an Elec Domi sapping is another layer of soft control to throw onto the pile rather than being a primary focus. The nice thing is that it's a layer of control you don't have to really bother applying, just get in amongst them and it will happen anyway while you attack or apply other mezzes.I'd say yes and no.
You drop mob's endurance pretty fast, but unless you're /Psi, you have no reliable means of -Recovery, so enemies who are just sapped will occasionally fire back still.
They can also be held, knocked down, slept or confused, so its not a big deal.
So, yes, you do sap, but in a soft-control kind of way. (Unlike say Elec/Elec Blaster who ca drop a mob to zero and keep them pinned there once they've established control.) And you layer this with lots of other soft control.
I love my Elec/Elec Dom, he's a lot of fun to play. While Electrical Control isn't what I hoped for, its a very enjoyable and effective set.
For most Elec Domi builds it acts more like a -Recovery debuff more than anything. Things will get attacks off sporadically, but at a much reduced rate. If you're pairing it with Psi though that's another matter since Drain Psyche can cut off recovery and render enemies powerless. -
Quote:Because the level of hysteria and reverence about them is out of proportion to how well they actually do work (see also Harry Potter for details). How are all these sets over hyped when a lot of them just work extremely well ?
They do work well, but they also get more adolation than they really deserve
Shields would be another i'd throw in there. In fact Shields is a more cut-and-dry example because without IOs it's actually a bit squishy. -
Quote:Yes, you're absolutely right here, it should indeed do that. It's been a while so I would have to check again, but I believe Power Boost affected my plant/storm controller's Freezing Rain. If that is the case, and I'm not misremembering, Power Boost should at least affect the -tohit debuff in Earthquake, which would be quite useful.

There seems to be a bit of confusion over whether Power Boost works with powers like Synaptic Overload (which uses Pseudopets to propagate itself between enemies).
So last night I created a quick AE test with some powerless custom enemies to time how long the Confusion lasted with and without PB and I can confirm Power Boost does work with Synaptic Overload, both for the initial target and those it jumps to, the Confusion period is significantly longer when PB is used first.
I assume this will also apply to other Pseudopets controllers use, but obviously the power / pet needs to be able to be affected by Power Boost & slottable for that mez type (so Quake and Ice Patch are obviously out). The only other powers which could be affected are Volcanic Gases (hold) & Carrion Creepers (immobs). But since both take their time summoning the short-lived pets which actually cast the mez in their cases you'll probably get little benefit from PB.
For Controllers Power Boost should also affect Spectral Terror, but should only the Fear, not the unenhancable -ToHit debuffs. I haven't tested this one out though. -
Quote:And as you say it's a very tight pack. I mean Ice Sword Circle isn't far off Psi Shockwave really, damage is almost identical (and cold is less of a binary damage type than Psi) and ISC is slower to animate (but still not Tremor slow) but you have it from level 4 onwards!Yup - all the PBAoE attacks where set to 15' radius and damage was evened out. The outliers are things like psychic shockwave, which still has its insane 1.97s cast time; Tremor with it's insane 3.3s cast time :-); Combustion and thorn burst which do more damage than all the others but over half of it is in a DoT. Whirling hands and ice sword circle are actually pretty middle of the pack these days.

Quote:I'd generally call it as a mid to late game addition, level 24 or level 30 or 35. Before that they're generally skippable (AOE Immobs being taken too early and spammed is the biggest mistake I see people make with Domis, followed by blind spamming of it even if there are slip patches being dropped by allies). Thanks for the insight there Carnifax!
specially about fire cages...ive always heard Doms not taking the AoE immob because its not within the playstyle of a Dom and yes...you dont need containment like a controller...but ive always taken it on my Doms...i mean...is it necessary at all? or just a late game addition to your build? because its either going to be fire cages at level 4 or Ring of fire...i refuse to take tremor:P on the same token i dont wanna be the Dom that cant contain mobs since i team fairly often...or should i not worry about that too much...i mean i'll have 2 ST mezzes and 2 AoE mezzes(rather than 3)...still fine hm?
or i just end up taking both fire cages AND ring of fire...? XD
Personally I don't mind a small bit of stunned wandering after a FlashFire / Stalagmites. The mez I find they actually go best with is Confusion since Confusion will tend to bunch them up and then you can AOE immob to prevent morale-broken based running away.
If you're planning the Fire or Ice APPs then I'd aim to have it by 41, possibly taking it at 30 or 35. -
Quote:For reference, I started reading them in 1992, which may explain why I got so jaded with them.Yup that is why I started reading them last year, by the time all the books are out, I should be about ready to finish the series. Unlike "A Song of Ice and Fire".
On another note, Surface Detail is a stunning book (finished it last night).
I'm next onto the Wind-up Girl which I have high hopes for. -
Quote:You know it's still not finished, right? (and that Jordan died in 2007). It's still being continued with a new writer though I believe.Interesting...I will see how it goes. I am going to plow through them all since I cannot stand a story not finished.
Just Wikied it and it seems like what was to be the last book has been split into 3 and the last is penciled in for Spring 2012 release. -
No, you're right about that. It descends into hopeless meandering and a complete loss of direction after that basically.
-
Agreed, the Villainous Clone arcs from i17 fall into the same category as well for me (and also make it feel like you're doing things for your own gain rather than being a lackey for a lackey of Arachnos).
-
Quote:I sorta agree with this, but would apply it to Builds posted on the forums as well. Too much focus on end-game build with super-duper recharge and Softcapped everything, but no idea how you're going to get there (which I never do anyway which is why I frankenslot as I go).I think what's hyped in general is performance versus AVs and on farms. Almost as if the rise from lvls 1-50 isn't a significant part of the game. Or THE game, until very recently.
[EDIT: Removed accidental quote]
Kinetics is one which suffers from this most IMO. Yes, eventually it does indeed have the best damage buff in the game, but it takes 32/38 (and those 6 levels difference are for me usually a killer) to get there. It's also fragile and one of the sets worst affected by lag or a slow PC. I ended up loathing my Dark/Kin Corruptor because the 20s was so damn boring for him (he's both deleted and on an inactive account now).
Rad is indeed pretty good but (like Fire/Dark corruptors) it does suffer from the "snowball effect" where it's popularity is still way out of proportion to how much better it is than other sets (also known as the Harry Potter effect).
Fire/Dark corruptors, to my mind, are overhyped for the opposite reason to Kinetics, their ridiculous amounts of AOE firepower before level 20. You can have a lethal cocktail of debuffs and AOE attacks by level 10. On a Steamrolling team in the 30s upwards they actually aren't that far ahead of other combos. -
Quote:Power Boost should affect Weave, but since Weave is a toggle which reapplies a short duration (0.75 second short) buff it won't do so for more than the 15 seconds PB is active I'm afraid.Hi guys,
Since the EU Test Server seems to be down (what a surprise), I can't test this by myself, so here I come.
Basically, does Power Boost + Weave works as I wish it would? I'm trying some funny things in Mids with my Ice/NRG blaster, and since I already know that Power Boost + Frozen Armor isn't giving the defense bonus we all want, I wanted to know if it would work with Weave.
Oh, and while I'm here, Power Boost wouldn't also boost Steadfast +Def by any chance? I really don't think it does, but hey... why not!
Thanks guys!
PS: Sorry if it's been asked before, but the search function didn't return anything worthy. -
Quote:Fire/Earth is a very strong combo. Lots of extra knockdown in Earth (skip Fire Cages, at least for a while, all you'll be doing is hindering yourself and you don't need it to leverage Containment like a Controller does) and the almighty Seismic Smash, probably the best Dominator attack in the game (my NRG Assault Domi is so jealous of it).Power Boost also goes well with Fire Control. After reading what you said Vids and after alot of thinking thematically...how about i turn the tables and say Fire/Earth?
how does the synergy between these 2 shape up? the reason im leaning toward /Earth over /Fire and /Energy is because i enjoy more melee based toons...and i utterly love how powerful /Earth feels! aswell as the fact it does have 3 hard hitting melee attacks plus a short range AoE that despite its mediocre numbers...looks and feels awesome...i am ofcourse talking about Fissure...not that poor excuse of an attack Tremor(that definitely needs improving but anyway)
also why im leaning towards Fire/ this time is because its a melee based control set...Smoke, Hot Feet, Cinders, Imps...and whatever control it lacks i think /Earth can compensate for all its soft control just as Vids pointed out with /Energy.
so...where too from here? questions? queries? anything?:P
Fox
Fire/Earth and Earth/Fire (Earth/Fire is a bit of a beast) are far better synergy-wise than the more thematic Fire/Fire and Earth/Earth combos IMO.
Mind you Earth/NRG would also be a nice combo, although you miss out on being able to Power Boost much (PB has no effect on Quake and little to none on Volcanic Gases).
Fire/NRG would be another decent enough combo, Fire gives you some extra AOE damage via Hotfeet and 2 AOE Mezzes which can be Power Boosted. NRG gives a nice combo of single target hard hitting Ranged and Melee damage and some extra mitigation with knockback and melee stuns. -
Just a note here, Energy Torrent in APPs does knockdown ,not knockback, the mag is 0.67. That makes it much more useful and predictable.
-
Take it, Frankenslot it with 3 Acc/Rech/Hold (2 are cheap yellow sets) plus an Acc/Recharge initially. That gives you good bang for your buck levelling up, when slots are precious. Combined it Domination it's an excellent safe opener for nasty spawns.

Quote:As Nalrok says it's down to Fury.So if a scrapper crits with FE up they dont get 2(dmg+FE) just 2dmg+FE? Im confused why its better on a brute >.<
If you Crit you get 2Dam + FE because FE and the Crit are both coded as extra damage effects in every Scrapper power, but Fury actually increases your Damage Modifier so increasing it will increase both the standard damage effect of a power and the Fiery Embrace one.
For a Scrapper Build-Up will work with a Crit though.
