Can someone adjust the download speed for the EU client? The past several weeks, I have only been able to get download speeds of 21-30kbps. I cannot stay online for 60 hours!! I have tried this on my verizon fios line(150mbps), 4G wireless(33mbps), and at Harvard(OC-48).

Does anyone know how to redirect the NA client to EU. Please don't quote me the wiki stuff. It's not supported.

Even better make a copy of the NA one and rename that as above.

Then you can use one to connect to the US servers and one to the Eu as needed.

Just for the record. I have created 2 directories. One for CoH and One for CoH EU. The Eu installer detects the NA copy where it is and proceeds to download new files over it.

If the clients were the same, Ncsoft wouldn't have needed 2 different clients. Now think about that.

The above solutions DO in fact work, I've renamed my cohupdater.exe to cohupdater.eu.exe then made a shortcut to the new updater on my desktop, and launched using the new shortcut, it asked me to install, I told it to install to C:\Games\CoHEU\ it then proceeded to see my CoHEU install and connected me to the EU Servers for CoH.

If you say so.

How is just renaming a executable redirecting it? I don't even want to address the "shortcut" issue. What kind of computer are you using? Are you on a Mac? Even so, my big issue is still the downloading, it will still pull new files, right?

Before you post a reply, let me say some things.

I had someone in the EU send me this file, cohupdater.eu.exe. It's 1.34MB
I put in folder called EU inside of my CoH directory. It displayed a different splash screen when I used it. I was no longer able to reach the old CoH.

Then I emailed tech support and they gave me this link, http://www.cityofheroes.com/account/...of_heroes.html
I downloaded a file called CoH_EU_Setup.exe. This is 10.5 MB that expands to 11.5MB after unzipping it.

Both request new files from the network and cannot use the NA client.

Also, I tried this CityOfHeroes.exe -project "eucoh" but this didn't work and I found out later it was unsupported.

Might pay if you could clarify for us what you are using. I automatically assume a PC if people don't specify and the instructions above work for PC's.

The clients are the same, although sometimes there is a difference in the times to patch. It's the same process as setting up the test server. Renaming the patcher exe DOES work, for some reason.

If it's not working you'll need to provide more information.

Because it's possible for a file to know what it's own name is, and act accordingly. Changing the name of the Updater file tells the updater program to change the minor areas of the client to point to different servers. The point people were trying to make is that the bulk of the game (the pigg files) are exactly the same no matter which client you are using (except for test and beta of course). That means that you can save considerable time by copying those files instead of re-downloading them all over again.

That command is designed to skip the updater process and go right to the game loading. You are right that it isn't "supported", for the simple fact that.. as you have found out.. if your client isn't already updated, it wont work.

1. I believe those the NA and EU updater files have different things in them. Renaming them is creating further problems. I have downloaded copy of the eu updater file now.

2. Do you know what files I need to copy over? I have created a second directory but the updater still requests a whole new download, right? So what does the piece meal copying do? Can the updated sense what files are there and only download the missing? From what I've its not that intelligent. It will download all.

Part of the updating process is updating the updater itself. Renaming it tells it what to do. Regardless of how you THINK it works, the fact is that hundreds of people have done it in the past with no issues.

As I stated, the /pigg/ directory is your main concern. That's where the most information is. If placed/copied in the proper location, the updater should find them and not re-download them, saving you a considerable amount of time. Regardless what you THINK, those files are indeed the same no matter which client you use. At the very most, the client might still do a "verify files" process on the directory, but it would still do that after downloading anyway.

Frankly, I'm installing the software into two separate directories and it is "bleeding" into the other. This is a software design flaw. I have no problem uninstalling and reinstalling the EU and NA copy but EU copy takes 60 hours for some reason and I have ultra fast internet access.

I wish you luck with this, I really do. I hope someone is nicer than me and can help you.

You should have 2 folders - one called "City of Heroes" and another called "CoH EU" or something.

Inside the CoH EU folder, create a folder called "City of Heroes".

Paste your previously installed US version of CoH into this folder.

Find the cohupdater.exe executable and rename it "cohupdater.eu.exe"

Right-click on that file you just renamed and Send To... desktop.

On the newly created desktop shortcut, go into properties, and ensure that the target is "...\CoH EU\City of Heroes\cohupdater.eu.exe"

Ensure that the "Start in" is "...\CoH EU\City of Heroes"

Run that shortcut.
