Consensus on Buff Shield Graphics?
Personally, I have no problem with shields, I like the buffs more than i dislike any graphics. That being said, if I were given the option, I'd take the less noticeable colors. On my /Cold troller my ice shields are almost transparent with a slight blue tint. Bottom line is, ugly shields beats no shields any day of the week
It's like graphic design. Some people know how to color the powers in the way that make the whole look cool. Others make me want to each out and smack them. I know when I reworked Elec control I had to change it because it was an issue of color overload.
I personally try to color my Fire/Plasma Shields and Ice/Glacial Shields to be as visually invisible as possible. It is easy enough to read buff bars to see when people need more shields.
If you have your **** colored super bright, chances are you won't be invited back next time around - that stuff hurts my eyes. That said, I prefer shields to be as colorless as possible. Same with pretty much all powers, come to think of it. It's just a personal preference.
They [fire shield graphics] used to bother me, but not anymore. I'm pretty sure the change in my attitude came when I upgraded my computer and the effects of the shields no longer assaulted my graphics card or made my computer want to throw itself off a bridge -- it's never really been about what color they are, at least for me. Ridiculously, I still hate the ice shield graphics, regardless of what color you choose to make them.

toned it down and looks well. Ditto with Ice Shields, a dark indigo makes them very minimalist, which is good.
Flames though always give me trouble. Still haven't managed to get a good looking, low impact "invisiflame" effect on my Broadsword/Fire scrapper.
I get a bit of grief from time to time when on my FF defender about the color of shields. At first I went with orange, since...well thats my fav color. But even when I go with the default colors people give me grief that it's distracting. Not as much with the shields but with dispersion bubble they seem to have a problem with it since it moves with me. My thing is, I need dispersion bubble to be visible so I know that it's covering the team. If I see they arent within the bubble i can move. Tho I have considered making the personal shields as invisible as possible. any recommendations?
Don't worry about Dispersion Bubble not covering the team. Your main bubbles give so much defense that any decent melee should be beyond the soft cap from those alone. Stand near the other squishies to keep them soft capped. If the melees are dying too quickly, then you probably don't have a very good team.

If the melees are dying too quickly, moving Dispersion Bubble over them will stop that. If the melees are dying too quickly and the bubbler is not trying to cover them with Dispersion, then you probably don't have a very good FF defender.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
Case in point, I made all my Thermal Corruptor's powers a bright green, as a visual cue for the healing attributes of the flames. However, it means that I cover people in bright green flame shields when I buff the team.

While this personally is more of an issue with my Corruptors, I figure the Defender forums get more viewers (and since both ATs have powersets with similar buff shields, it still applies here)
I remember way back when CoV came out, a lot of people had issues with the shield animations, either due to the lag they caused, or that people didn't like how the shields messed up the look of their costumes. I've taken a break for a few years, and just got back in-game last week experienced the new powerset customization options. Now that we have the ability to make the shields look even more garrish than before, while also having the ability to make them less noticeable through muted colors, what do people like to see?

I haven't been able to team enough to get a good idea of how people feel about it, so I've come on here about it. Just curious, I suppose.
