My favourite form of support to play is, oddly, my Plant/Emp controller. For me this is strange. Normally I love debuff sets and hate buff ones (I despise playing Kinetics for example) but I don't hate Empathy. In fact I really like it. Dark comes a close second with Storm and TA after that.
In terms of playing with I'd probably say Cold or Dark. -
Quote:As I understand it, Black Isle went under and were bought up by... Someone, I forget who. And either way, Fallout: New Vegas isn't a game in Black Isle's iconic style, it's a mission pack for Fallout 3.
New Vegas bears little in common with Fallout 3 in terms of how alive the game-world feels and how much they give you to do. It's very, very like a number of the Black Isle games of yore story-wise (especially in the way it just sprawls out and throws myriads of weird little mini-quests at you).
Mechanically it's the same, but the story and setting are streets ahead of Fallout 3s curiously sterile efforts (Oblivion has the same issues, it's like being in a world of androids)
Which isn't surprising because quite a few people who worked at Black Isle on Planetscape, Fallout and Fallout 2 now work / run Obsidian (including the CEO). -
Quote:I've had the same experience on Virtue with a Plant/Emp controller. It was especially Good Times during City of Dual Pistol Blasters last year.During my brief 2 months on the NA servers i did try out 4 servers, including the two you mentioned and experience was so different its unreal.
Virtue: Now i am nowhere near a roleplayer. I dont take part in any roleplaying and i dont do anything like that. However i had so much fun on that server seeing so many different "characters" and not people, but characters! I even put extra effort into an actual concept for my character [though i did let everybody i teamed with know i wasnt a RPer].
Freedom: After making my usual scrapper character i came to the conclusion of what the ultimate character is on freedom. An emp defender. Yes an emp defender and when i made one, i had never been in so much high demand ever! Every single battle was a constant struggle just to keep the team alive [and i think of myself as a decent healer at that!].
She also gets a lot of complements on her cossie and background story running around Virtue which is nice.
I am looking forward to returning to EU side and playing with people in the same timezone as me though. I love Virtue PuGs and all but the fact it's the middle of the day over there when I play evenings here can grate occasionally (like being bossed around by a herd-happy Tank a few days ago, although mostly I just ignored them). -
Quote:Well I don't post on these forums that often but sometimes something crops up that just means I HAVE to voice my opinion.
And I'm pretty riled up right now.
GRRRRRRRRR (<-- See how riled I am!)
I've spent an inordinate amount of money on this game over the years.
I've spent an inordinate amount of time in this game over the years.
Bar one day where I forgot my bank card had expired and my account had lapsed I have been playing this game for 72 odd months concurrently with no breaks.
I've ALWAYS been known as Knightingale, even before the whole Global name thing came along.
Since Global names were established I've always been @Knightingale.
I have a huge friends list with a load of people who know me as Knightingale.
When I log into the game and come into chat channels it's always "Hey Knighty", "Hi Gale", "How's you tongith Knightingale".
Like other people that name has carried over to other games and other forms of Internet identity.
It's my online identity. It's somethign I'm proud of and have spent years cultivating. ESPECIALLY in a game to which I've loyally been subscribed to for over 6 years and spent a small fortune on.
And now..... now I'm being told that within a few months that identity COULD be lost to someone who fits any of the following criteria.
a) has been playing US side for 7 plus years continuously.
b) has been a player at sometime in the past on the US servers but might now no longer be active.
c) has at some point dabbled very briefly in CoH on the US side and happened to have the same Global as me
d) has had a trial account US side wth the same Global as me and then decided against actually playing the game any longer because it wasn't to their liking
only after these 4 groups of people have been checked..... will I get the Global handle I've had for 6 plus years.
Now Group a) I'm not too concerned about. They were here first so technically I'm the usurper of the name. And as they're still playing they're entitled to it. I'd be miffed but ultimately I understand.
The other 3 groups should, as far as I'm concerned, forfeit the name. They no longer PAY for the privilege of having that name. I DO.
^This. Do it properly or don't bother NCSoft. Long term active accounts should get precedence here, regardless of the side they are on.
Just slapping EU on the front of everyones clashing name and calling it done is a poor, lazy solution.
If a US account is inactive or a Trial when this goes live and there is a clash then the active European name (ie the paying customer) should remain unchanged and the US one should have US prepended onto it.
And obviously anyone whose Global is changed should have the ability to change it to something else afterwards. -
Quote:I did some board research the other day on this topic and threads seemed to suggest that the proc with most bang-for-your-buck is Impeded Swiftness Chance of Smashing, as it could proc in all 3 "options" with creepers, the initial summon, the patch, and then each vine's attack.
I slotted my Creepers with 2 Acc/Dmg Hami-Os, 2 recharge IOs, and the impeded swiftness proc. Seems to work well.
This board information is slightly out of date though, the fix to creepers a while back means Posi's Blast will also PROC as often as it.*
@Little_Whorn : I've no real idea of those two. I suspect the Vines are buffable (I accidentally gave one Adrenal Boost during the week) for the 15 seconds or so they live if you Fulc Shift when they're waving about but haven't tested it. I'll try it later with Fortitude to see if I can raise a Vines damage by Forting it.*
I'm not sure what rules the invisible spawning pseudopet follows though, I'd imagine it should inherit whatever damage buff you have on you when you cast Creepers but I've no idea if the things *it* then spawns (Vines and patches etc) would also get the damage buff.
I'll do some testing with a Vine and Fort and popping reds and then summoning the patch later to see if I can figure out if/how you can buff Creepers damage. -
Nope, the term "British Isles" is a geographic one, not a political one. So the Falklands aren't included, but my own fair isle is, even though we (mostly) aren't British (except for the 6 counties up North which are British, unless you're talking about Rugby in which case they're considered Irish for some reason)
-
Hurrah!! I'm delighted by this and looking forward to slinking back to the EU servers once more.*
I'll even buy some server transfers for some of my Virtue alts to go Union-side.* -
Quote:I'm confused about this. As far as I can tell Thorntrops has poor DPS. 2.78 damage per tick, 1 second ticks. So it takes it 45 seconds to *do 125 damage. A non-purple proc will add 1.4 DPS on average.the best advice i can give about the thorns is that i would avoid spine burst as that as an abominable cast time and i would grab up thorntrops since that will increase your dps by a good amount
i used to have a ice/thorn dom, couldnt get him to 30 though, the thorn powers are really neat, but i absolutely cant stand the constant redraw, as for the rest of it, i cant really help with since i cant stand the redraw, but if you want to use it, more power to you and hope that my 2 cents helped
Spine Burst does have a horribly slow animation time but it's a pretty standard Domi PBAOE. Compared to Fling Thorns it is poor though but it will combine with Aim (and Sleet) to give you a bit more AOE spike damage.*
Personally I'd be aiming to take both. AOE really is king on teams towards the end game so it's worth taking both and adding to the AOE spam. -
Quote:The bit in bold isn't quite true.So I'm proc'ing creepers and deciding how far to go. It takes an enormous amount of procs, but in order to slot them all I'd have to sacrifice accuracy and damage. Bear in mind, I don't need recharge. With Spirit Core Paragon, it's perma out of the box for me. And I know it needs accuracy so consider that too. Lastly, remember that each proc fires on some of the creepers actions but not all.
5 procs below:
Javelin Volley: Lethal. Procs on Entangle. 10s. 5 targets.
Trap of the Hunter: Lethal. Procs on Entangle. 10s. 5 targets.
Positron Blast: Energy. Procs on Entangle. 10s. 5 targets.
Impeded Swiftness: Smashing. Procs on slow patch and vine strikes. Initial Slow and each Vine attack.
Explosive Strike: Smashing. Procs on Vine Strikes. Each Vine attack.
If I decide to slot all 5 procs, that leaves one slot for acc/dam. I can put an Acc IO or an Acc/Dam HO.
So my final questions are
1) How many of the Procs and which ones do you think I should slot? Will slotting the procs at the expense of straight up damage be a bad idea? Should I not ignore damage, or is Creepers's damage negligible to the proc output? I kinda like the full proc idea, but I'm unsure.
2) IF I GO ALL PROCS, Acc/Dam HO or Common Acc IO?
Any thoughts from the more experienced than myself?
When Creepers got fixed so that things like Targetted AOE Damage IOs would affect the Vines it also meant the PROCs will fire for Vine attacks as well. As far as I can tell whomever fixed it basically allowed the Vine attacks to take Targetted AOE sets as well.
I've recently tested it myself (last week) and have confirmed that Posi's Blast will proc across the board, on Vine attacks as well as where one would expect going on "normal" IO rules with pets / pseudo-pets.
I've mine slotted with the Impeded Swiftness and Posi Blast. In a single casting vs a test bed of attackless +1x8 AE dummies I got a grand total of 78 PROC hits. 54 Posi Blast and 24 Impeded Swiftness.
I haven't tested with the other 3 PROCs however, I had to slot for Acc, Recharge and Damage instead (1 Acc/Dam HO, 2 Dam/Recharge IOs and a common Recharge IO along with the 2 procs) -
Quote:1 A-merit is made by running 10 Alignment (Tip) missions and then doing the final Morality mission but not changing your alignment. So, 2 a-merits = 20 missions? But 1 morality mission = 10 tip missions. That's more work than normal merits.
Also, I've had the You Got A Tip show up but when I check my missions it's not there. ???
Tips are in a seperate tab in your Contacts. You then open the tip and decide what course of action to take (Hero or Vigilante for example). -
Quote:They're called Alignment Merits, or A-Merits. You get them as a Hero or Villain for doing 10 morality missions and then reaffirming your alignment. Can someone piont me to the post/site that explains the new super-merits that you can buy a LOTG7.5 for two?
I'd search, but I don't know what they're called. And, while merits have a good time/benefit ratio, do the new merits?

Quote:My wife. She hasn't logged into the laptop since she got the iPad at Xmas. She uses it to do all the things she used to do on the laptop, paying bills, printing photos wirelessly, browsing the web and reading email.Uh uh. "I'm sure" and "probably" aren't good enough for me. I'm interested in things that actually happen, not things that some people think probably happen but that they have no real examples of. Lothic, do you actually know anyone who actually used their computer and who got rid of it or stopped using it in favor of an iPad? And if so, what were they doing with the computer in the first place? Just checking email and streaming Netflix?
You still need a laptop mind, otherwise you're sorta out of luck the next time you want to do something like download your photos off your digital camera. But that's basically the only thing I can think of she'd now need to do on the laptop (maybe some spreadsheet thingies as well) -
Quote:This. Earth gives you Defense based shields as well, but also gives you two excellent melee friendly attacks in Fissure and Seismic Smash.unless you're grabbing ice for a reason... i'd say you might like stone more as your epic.
You do lose Hibernate though which is an excellent mid-combat rest or panic button. -
My very first character was a Fire/Elec Blaster. Unfortunately I made her Science origin and she swiftly was eaten by Doctor Vs little minions trying to run the first few missions. So I abandoned her (she's probably part of his meat suit now) as all she could seemingly do was get ripped apart by zombies.
After that I chose a Fire/Stone tank, which I played (badly) as a Scrapper more or less. He got abandoned in the teens as I wasn't enjoying the melee experience much.
Finally was the character I was initially going to roll anyway but wanted to get the hang of the game a bit first, Carnifax, an Illusion/Storm controller who looked like a cross between a Jawa and an imp (the initial concept was "a tiny, harmless looking little thing, which can nonetheless cause absolute chaos").
I found a few old pics of her online too, although none are the original, hooded cossie she had (my new avatar is her original cossie, but it's not like you can see much of it amongst the bloom) :

Quote:Yep, that's the best I've managed with it too, colouring dark flames as red and grey to get a sooty, dark, dark red effect.Speaking of Fiery Aura, Blazing Aura always made my eyes hurt. But when I chose Dark Flames and colored it grey and black, it now looks like smoke puffing out of my character and doesn't hurt my eyes, either!
So at least it doesn't blind me with bloom now with every puff. -
Quote:Oooh, I didn't know this either. My Broadsword/Fire scrapper underwent a makeover last night.Yeah the hero version sucked when compared to the villain version. Know all my fire shield toons use the villain version of it.
Using the new Wisp Aura as a combat aura also gives an excellent look to Fire Shield now too.
I just wish there was a better look for Blazing Aura (the damage toggle). Still can't get that looking decent. -
Quote:Did you try moving forward yourself and acting as a spotter for it? It's been a while but this seemed to be how it worked for me, if I moved forward a bit it could see what I could and shoot at them.My experience is that the AI that runs the Lightning Storm doesn't aggro against things outside of the power's default range, so range slotting is useless. At least, I 5-slotted Lightning Storm with Damage/Range HOs way back in like i3, hoping I'd get a pet nuke-sniper out of it, but it didn't seem to shoot any farther at all. I guess it might help it shoot runners that have already aggro'd it, though.

Quote:Aye, my Plant/Emp/Primal will rez and buff the poor unfortunate up once I've Vengied the entire team from their sorry hide.Ah, yes, the Internet strikes again. My use of the word "rude" was tongue-in-cheek. If you are going to explode a teammate's corpse, which doesn't seem like a very nice thing to do . . . shouldn't you have the decency to at least give him a hand up with a rez? Just leaving his blown-up body there seems kind of sad . . .
The way I see it is if Mr Vengie-bait gets a taste of godmode for 90 seconds after they rez it encourages them to get themselves killed more often, hence more Vengie goodness for me.
"Whose a good boy getting themselves all deaded in order to buff the team? You are! Yes you are! You're the best boy/girl/fearsome-entity-from-beyond. Have a Power Boosted Fortitude and an Adrenaline Boost as a reward"
I'd go with Mutation and Fallout for levels 30 and 35. Not sure what to take at 49. Vengeance isn't opened up in that build as-is, otherwise I'd be going for that.
Agree with Hyperstrike on the APP as well. Stone works well with Fire because you can follow up Flashfire with Fissure and have a 50% chance of stunning any bosses in the bunch (and if that fails just Seismic Smash them). -
Of all the Controller Primaries Gravity (along with Illusion and Mind) are probably the ones who are closest to having a decent single target attack chain even without the APP Blast.
IMO the only two really worthwhile APP blasts are Fire and Ices thanks to the quick animations (my Plant/Emp has Primal for Power Boost and the single and cone blast are ok, but nothing to write home about. They do FEEL strong though). -
Quote:Yes. If you want a PPP then you have to be in a position to talk to the Arbiter contact in Grandville and run story missions red side (so either be a Villain or a Rogue).I was under the impression that you had to do a mission arc on Redside in order to unlock Patrons. No?
Cold Mastery looks to be your best best APP-wise, it's the only one with a Defense based shield as well as Hibernate and Hoarfrost (although with a MM I'm not sure how close to the HP cap you are already and if you'll get good milage from Hoarfrost). -
Quote:Level 22 makes all the difference in the world for a few reasons.I made a Warshade recently just for giggles and found it to be fairly entertaining. I typically cannot stand Blaster-types due to the utter lack of survival, and usually play Masterminds, Brutes, etc because of that. With squid though I found it was entertaining enough to keep me going; besides, at 20, I get Dwarf and the good times start rolling right?
To make a long hover-blasting story short, I hit 20, got Dwarf and am now kind of scratching my head at the whole situation. Dwarf seems completely useless outside the double mire and some situational uses in groups. But that's not even what's driving me crazy.. it's that, while playing solo, I try to do all the amazing Warshade things I've read about in a certain MFing infamous guide, and I find that I pretty much just get blown up.
I super-speed and stealth over to a group, Mire, Dwarf, Mire, Squid and.... die. I understand that the true survivability is in Eclipse but I don't know if I can make it that far like this. I feel like all those many low level blasters I've thrown out! I'd like to enjoy my Warshade but I'm really not feeling it at the moment...
I'm currently 21, using DOs in all my slots. I can post a build if someone really wants to see it but I basically just took the imperative powers (forms, the hold, Hasten, Mire) and some useful tricks (Stealth+Super Speed, TP foe). I've thrown my slots exclusively into Nova's blasts and the 2 from 21 into Dwarf so I can 3 slot resists into at 22. I also have Stamina 3 slotted.
Oh oh, one other thing about Dwarf; It runs out of endurance in seconds!
That's about it, if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with dying (I'm tired of +0 x1 no bosses ;_or needs more information, please let me know!
1) Stygian Circle
2) SOs in your powers, including Dwarf Form which means he becomes much more survivable
3) That's the level I always do my Vet Respec and spend whatever slots I had in Human Form powers which I don't need on Dwarf Form instead (focusing on Dwarf Mire, the heal and the harder hitting melee starting out). Typically I end up shunting 5 slots from human form (from the blasts and shields which I usually drop in exchange for Super Speed and Shadow Cloak for high speed invisibilty) into Dwarf form.
I'm just 22 now in fact (on my second Warshade) and the only Human form powers I have slotted are Mire and the hard hitting Hold attack. Everything else has just the single slot in it.
Also remember that double-mire isn't as good as it used to be, Dwarf Mire only stick around 10 seconds now. So faffing around with Mire > Dwarf > Mire squid isn't as useful as it used to be. Double Mire is more useful in the nuke / mini-nuke chain IMO.
As Dechs says doing human mire (I always then follow with the hold on a choice Lieut), Dwarf Form and then miring and scrapping it out can work better. -
Quote:It kinda depends on your playstyle. If you use Choking Cloud a lot (and Grav doesn't really need to to be honest, it works well from range) and find yourself in melee range Earth is great for Fissure, Seismic Smash and a Defense based armour (an ugly defense based armour), with Earths Embrace being ok in terms of making you a bit tougher.Hey everyone,
I need some opinions on APPs for controllers. I have a level 45 Grav/Rad on whom I took the Psi APP (mainly for the mez resists) but I find myself kind of disgruntled. The resist armor doesn't help much on a controller (when mobs hit me for 300+ damage, 30% resist is gonna make me last all of three seconds longer) and the other powers don't really strike me as really useful.
I can't say that the numbers on Red Tomax make me sway any other way, so I was wondering what you had to say about APPs. Heck, if someone has strong pros about PPPs, I may even take him redside long enough to get one.
Thoughts?
Fire is always good if you just want more damage. Plus Consume can be handy for regaining End sporadically.
Psi is very useful for Rad, simply for the mez protection. Another useful thing is that Crushing Field followed by Psi Tornado will do containment damage but still knock into the air.
Primal doesn't really offer you a lot, Power Boost doesn't work with Rad that well and the rest of the set is pretty average.
Ice is a solid choice, Defense based armour to go with your -ToHit debuffs, Hibernate is always good as an emergency button, or for an in-fight rest (although your Rad toggles will be ineffective when Hibernated up) and Frost Breath and Ice Storm will give to a decent slab of AOE damage.
From the PPPs Mace is quite a strong choice, Def based shield, a blast which also adds more -resist and an AOE (which does sporadic knockback, which could be good or bad depending on how you play). Plus an extra occasional pet if you fancy it which might work with your character concept.
Leviathan gives you Spout, which would be interesting with Crushing Field, they'll be held in place but will still go flying up into the air. Plus the sporadic Stuns from it will stack with Wormhole. Hibernate is in there as well. Bile Spray is a pretty much standard cone, although one with a rarely resisted damage type in it.
So really depending on how you are built. If you're a ranged controller who doesn't like to be in close I'd probably go with Mace, especially if it gelled concept-wise. Ice and Leviathan would probably be my follow-on choices for "interesting powers", both with a panic button in Hibernate which can be very useful (although more so with Controllers who have more fire-and-forget mezzes, pets and debuffs, like Earth, Plant, Elec, Illusion, Cold and Storm where you can either confuse a load of enemies and/or drop a mez patch, debuff patch and/or pets on them and then ice up and they'll keep fighting. My Illusion/Storm/Ice got a LOT of use from Hibernate).
Fire, Psi and Earth (depending on how you like to play) also have things going for them too mind. -

I'm not sure if it's bugged (if people cleared all and he didn't appear then it is) but I thought he's basically supposed to pop out while you're in the middle of a fight to help you, then you have the usual "I'm bringing you in" talk then he goes hostile.
That's what happened to me, was fighting two enemies toward the bottom of a map when he came running in and helped me kill them, then conversation and fight.
