Rumor: Server list merges?

Someone mentioned a couple hours back in a global channel that there's a European/US server list merge planned, but couldn't provide a link or an announcement. Can someone confirm that this is so, or is it just the rumor mill at work?

It's real: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=255069

Just remember folks. The lists of servers are merging. Not any of the servers with any other servers.

When you log on, whether your in the US, EU, or anywhere in the world, you will see all the US and all the EU servers to choose from to play on.

Everyone gets more slots! (distributed among the servers one newly has access to)

Of course, this was the obvious thing that was going to happen when all the servers, East Coast, West Coast, and EU moved to Austin.

The thing wasn't that it was destined happen but when, and this should have happened a long time ago.

I wonder how many players we could have retained if our EU brothers and sisters had access to our 11 servers years ago. I can't argue with anyone upset that they were paying the same monthly fees and only getting 4 servers and access to a fraction of the playerbase.

But yay! The lists are finally merging!

Since I'm planning on migrating over the ocean soon I had thrown serious consideration to leaving the game since EU servers out of hours is not something I was looking forward to.

However Now I can select a (hopefully) welcoming NA server to play on too!

Oh Hooray!

Such good news for those of us who don't work 9 to 5 and therefore play at irregular hours. I might actually get asked to join a team now

As for EU having four servers, hmmm not really, 2 English servers, a French and a German, that kinda cuts it back to two or one, depending on your viewpoint.

I relish the thought of playing with Yankees and Aussies and whoever else plays on the NA servers. Just a reminder to you all though to watch your slang and colloquialisms in chat, we speak English in England!

Exciting news

So you're saying we should try to restrict ourselves to the slang and colloquialisms currently popular in the British Isles? Got it.

Honestly, were I the devs, I wouldn't have wanted to try it while the servers were spread all over the country/globe like they used to be. Quite frankly, the provider that housed the EU servers was...not great.

Now that they're all essentially in the same room together,it DRASTICALLY simplifies implementation and maintenance. It's reduced to deduping and wringing coherence out of the data, not worrying that server connection A is hideously flaky and server connection B makes server connection A look like the Dalai Lama next to Chuck Manson.

Nonono. You have that all wrong pal.

Welcome to the New World!

Please keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times. Anything that pops out may be groped, tasered, beaten, shot, and confiscated until the TSA can determine that it's safe (probably sometime shortly AFTER the heat death of the universe).

I think this would be great for people working different shifts and unable to play at nights, since they could find a European server where those hours work, and vise versa. Actually, I expect this will trigger some server or another to become the daytime server while the other remain the nighttime servers, possibly the ones that are currently English European, but who can say.

Yep, I figured this was why they were making the switch to the NCSoft Launcher.

The Updaters were 2 separate programs, and it would have been problematic to merge them, but since everyone uses the same launcher, even people playing different games, it is much easier to merge the lists this way.

Only by insinuation. Pretty sure the general usage of British Isles only applies to the clump of islands off the coast of France that includes England. (And possibly the Falklands off the coast of South America by right of conquest.)

But at one point in history the British owned most of the planet. That of course when we had the military forces to do it,but since those nasty types in Boston threw all our tea in the water we have lost it.Looking forward to the merge.

"Falkland Islands?
Oh, we need the Falkland Islands... for strategic sheep purposes!"

Well, us Yanks knew how important your tea was to you. I don't think we knew the rest would fall like a house of cards by making a bunch of team in the bay.

Look forward to the merge as well!

Nope, the term "British Isles" is a geographic one, not a political one. So the Falklands aren't included, but my own fair isle is, even though we (mostly) aren't British (except for the 6 counties up North which are British, unless you're talking about Rugby in which case they're considered Irish for some reason)

That's easy, it's slang for coloured marbles. Yarble being yellow, rarble being red, blarble being blue... you get the idea?

Next question please?

Explain the variations between Cockney accent and RP for me then.

I need at least 37 pages, single-spaced, 80 characters per line, for your summary.

I think the context might matter. When Alex in 'A Clockwork Orange' tells someone to "Come and get one in the yarbles!", I don't think there are any childrens toys involved.
