Quote:A change in buff magnitude in exchange for buff length standarization would be most acceptable. Kin feels really busy at times because SB and ID do not last very long at all.I disagree solely because any change to kinetics will probably mean they will nerf something harshly. I like kinetics the way it is, thanks.
In general, though, Kin may seem to lack a bit until they get the later powers. Transference and Fulcrm Shift change the way entire teams approach some challenges or enemy groups. The early powers are decent and have some other dubuff possibilities, it is a late-blooming set. -
Magic. Only my Dark/SR is not Magic and I regret that choice now. The first time I did Serafina's mission and bought a few SOs was a "you're not paying attention" reminder.

Scrappers are far and away my favorite AT.
Dark Melee and Shield Defense have become my favorite powersets within the AT.
I have a Dark/Regen, Dark/SR, Dark/Shield, Shield/Fire Tank (the only one not 50 yet, 28) and Electric/Shield. The Darks have received all but Purple and PvP IO investment, the others get more uncommon-level gear. If Dark Melee had any more AoE, I may not have made the other Shield characters. Still Scrappers or Brutes, but not with Shields. -
Want:
The Sash.
I am not rolling another Kheld until either PBs are significantly buffed or that is a costume option. -
Anyone have any clue how long the price for LotG +7.5s is going to stay ludicrously high? For now, at least, there is no reason anyone should be short for money unless you want all Purples and PvP enhancements. My wife and I are just running A-Merit missions for about an hour a day (however long it takes to run all five), and trading in for the LotGs every other day. Not to mention the other enhancements we have made and sold just from drops or mission completions.
Some of the regulars on this part of the forums know I have been middling in the markets for a while now and doing ok (I have even capped out a few times. Go me!), but it just seems like you would have to be doing something VERY wrong not to be making inf with the way things are now. I just hope it does not dry up for now.
Please keep making alts that want 5 +7.5s apiece. My wife and I are grateful. -
Quote:If you can afford four extra slots in for either you could slot Decimations or the Purple Ranged set for a chunk of recharge. I forget what bonuses the snipes have, but you could go that route if you saw a bonus you liked (snipe sets also tend not to be terribly expensive). Was also thinking of doing the Soul Mastery route for Shadow Meld, and giving up my 2 Body Mastery Powers. But, getting there means picking up either a ranged attack which causes redraw, or a snipe. Not sure I'd have much slots for those powers either. Any thoughts on this?

Keep MG-Smite-SL-Smite. Mids has the blasts listed incorrectly as doing double their normal damage. Until we get access to Gloom, I do not think any ancillary blast was shown to be worth inclusion in an ST chain save Elec/Shield using Fire Blast if you absolutely had to have Pyre Mastery.

Quote:You are correct, but I meant it more in the sense that if you stayed away from that stuff, 400M can still go pretty far, even if you are not the most patient person. You would still end up spending it all, no doubt, but you should have a character much better than SOs alone would get you.Two sets of Oblits and one Posi's, actually, but no Kinetic Combats. Only the Steadfast unique, though, and that's dirt cheap. Oh, and Crushing Impact puts a bit of a dent in your wallet, too.
Careful shopping's a big part of it. List a low bid for the recipes you need, preferably of a level not divisible by 5, then give it a couple of days to a week to fill. It's not that fast, but it's also incredibly low effort - just set the bid, and wait for the message when you log in.
I just lucked out and managed to get some patience instilled into me. I also made quite a few of my builds and bids a long time ago (I had a character that bought 2 full sets of Oblit recipes for maybe 50M total and sit in their WW slots because I did not play them much), so my notion of how much builds cost might be a bit dated. -
Quote:Not in the least. Kudos, sir, but those are the exact stupid AT tricks I am talking about. Soloing multiple AVs at once. +4/x8 missions. Vanguard/Arachnos/Carnival heavyweights, Rikti pylons. Should have mentioned I make way from Scrapperland, where we do not get the ridiculous buffs and debuffs to do incredibly stupid things easily. We only get mitigation, status protection and DPS.I've pulled some pretty stupid stunts on a not-ridiculously-expensive IO build (around 400M for everything, so not cheap, but not that expensive either). Soloing Maria Jenkins' arc on x6/bosses/no AVs. Soloing the portal room in Ramiel's arc (EBs, not AVs) on x8 without pulling or closing any portals. Sure, I'm not about to start dropping any giant monsters, but I don't think I'm doing badly for a Fire/Fire tanker.
400M should get anything but the true top-end high demand gear, though (Oblits, Posis, Decis, Purples and uniques). I am almost at the point where I cannot say I care about the character other than novelty and the experience if I am not looking to put in at least 200M and their own uncommon drops. -
Ok, while some of us may not have Sorrow or the Goat's market aptitide or savvy, it is not something you should turn a blind eye to, especially with some of the complaints you claim to have with your toons. The last few posts have been nearly spot on. Even if you use the market to just take your drops to sell, gou should find yourself in enough inf to make 40mil seem like pretty petty cash. A-merits only make that more pronounced. Get one LotG +7.5 and sell to get you started, and either get specific enhancements if you want them, or roll random and hope you get lucky. My wife and I have used this method with very good results and whereas I have read up on how to do this, she pretty much figured it out even never having been on these forums.
Either way, inf should not be an issue after level twenty, or at least not easily remedied. I would just get the Miracle and Numi uniques yourself so you can get them low level and have them early and for exemplaring.
You can head over to the market forum for nearly step-by-step guides of how to do this. Just try not to be too intimidated by how much they make or how fast they do it (which I admit was what got me at first. Not seeing the exact same results they did used to discourage me a bit, then I realized if it took me an extra couple of days or a week that is no bug deal). You do not need to rush any of their processes, just be diligent.
As far as general power slotting goes to help with endurance goes, Uncommon recipes or even generic IOs are your friend. Even just frankenslotting if you do not care about bonuses. So long as you not trying to do "Stupid <insert AT> tricks," you can get pretty effective toons relatively cheap. -
I think Stalkers should have their damage increased to the point where they are a functional inverse of Tanks as far as damage (at least as far as being a single-target specialist) and mitigation capacities. I will not say I know enough about the numbers to say specifically what should change, but I think it would work balance-wise to have a noticeable hierarchy among damage and mitigation among the melee classes. I love my Scrappers, and would hate to see them out-damaged by puny little Stalkers, but if Scrappers can out-survive them due to the larger HP pool, AoEs and extra endurance to keep powers going, being out-damaged would be fair.

Taking a break from College Football watching (and getting ready for Ohio State) and started throwing together a few build ideas for KM because I really wanted to try it. However, I have a few questions in regards to secondary with respect to the budget I plan am allocating for the character. As far as that budget plan, I am pretty much going on anything less than LotG +Recharges.
I am down to deciding between Shield or Regeneration. I know building for some recharge is going to be paramount for the primary and definitely /Regen, but getting Shield Charge up more would be nice for /Shd as well. Building for the Softcap with Shield would definitely happen, and is within my budget I want for this guy.
Just wanted some input about what secondary to run (and if I should run it as a blue-side Brute or Scrapper if I go Shield) and what attack chain I should be going for. Search-fu is failing next to Nebraska and Michigan's attempts at comebacks. -
My vote goes to Brute. For Gloom, Dark Obliteration and Darkest Night rather than just a weaker Dark Blast and Shadow Meld. If you really, really need something like the Defensive Build-Up, than go ahead and go Scrapper for Shadow Meld, but Brute Soul is much better than Scrapper Soul.
Also, for Fiery Aura, you may not see it much except on teams, but the Brute damage resistance cap is higher (90% versus 75%). May not be a big determining factor in your decision, but something to consider. -
I would definitely be a fan of Ninjitsu for Scrappers and Fire Blast for Defenders. I have been settling for a SR with Aid Self and a redeemed Fire/Rad Corrupter as substitutes (and, surprisingly, not bad subs, either).
Not sure how Katana would go over for Brutes, since it does not have the SMASHy feel, but neither does Dark Melee and they seem to get along fine. Dark Blast may need tweaked a little bit, but it would be nice to see Blasters get that (and what would a Dark Manipulation set look like). OH, and Dark Miasma/Control and Dark Assault Dominators! That, however, is venturing into the realm of new sets, so I guess I am done for now. -
Quote:I would not be so sure. Combinations are harder to quantify than individual sets. Some sets just play better with certain powers or strategies than others. For example, Fire control is one of the more damage-focused control sets. Kinetics is about buffing the amount of damage (Siphon Power and Fulcrum Shift) and the speed of that damage (Siphon Speed and Transference) you put out. Stands to reason they would play well together. Fire/Rad Controllers and Corruptors have a similar playstyle, except can do it more safely, provided their anchor does not drop.Castle will look at this thread thinking: "sets that need to get nerfed"
When a single set is considered to be overpowered because of a single power, even if was just due to a buff gone awry (Shield Defense's Shield Charge, for example. Back in the day, Regeneration's toggle-Instant Healing would be another), then the outlier is more easily identified and corrected. If that trick is the only thing the set can do well, then that trick might be nerfed and the rest of the set might be buffed to compensate or at least still make people consider the set (Psi Assault). -

Thank you, both. Was getting a bit confused in that building. Should not be too much of an issue now that I know I have to talk to Rein first (and whatever contact he makes me do before that).
For now, though, time for bed. I can actually do my first arc as a Villain Scrapper tomorrow. -
And I have no idea how to actually reach Ghost Widow to run her patron arc. Mostly because I am not sure which building to navigate to reach her. Newb question, I know, but I have never been in Grandville before and realized this place is a pain (especially for a non-flier).
Directions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -
Oh, and Fury, since you are on here.
I was not able to do a fully dedicated 7 days, especially with not even being near my computer with trying to sort out wedding details, but I did 300 million. Not your Billion, but far from not bad and definitely not in the poor house by most standards. -
I actually have a Katana/Dark Armor Scrapper, and while I have seen the absolute ridiculousness that DA followers have done with theirs, I am not sure I am ready for that sort of expenditure, yet.

I probably should have also noted that the 3 50 scrappers all have significant IO investment, already. The Shield toons are soft-capped and already have a few Obliteration sets in them (along with other sets, but those are the most expensive). The Regen has near-perma-DP and at least 20% Defense to all three vectors. I enjoy them all and have stupid fun with them as is, but I was just thinking of finally saying, "this is my guy," and slotting appropriately. The other three will still be capable of taking many names while waiting their turn to be tricked-out.
The DM/Regen was my main for the longest time and my first to 50. The DM/Shield was actually a level-pacted toon with my soon to be wife (August 7th, Go Me!), a Kin/Dark/Dark Defender. The ElM/Shd/Fire and DM/SR/? were just solo projects of mine. One with a Single-Target Focus, the other an AoE engine of destruction. They are solid even with the IO sets they have now, and I think she wants to build up a ElM/Shd/Fire, so I may leave that one alone (She likes things dropping in droves, but does not like to be overly squishy like a Blaster).
Like I said earlier, I was leaning toward the DM/Shd. Nice mix of Single-Target and AoE, solid boost from AAO, personal investment with a toon of the missus. Looks like most of the group is in agreement, as well. -
So I have four Scrappers (3 at 50 and 1 that is going to be 50 eventually), and currently only the patience, market-savvy and inf to full-on trick-out one at this juncture. By trick-out, I mean 5 LotGs, the Regen and Recovery uniques, a purple set or two, and whichever non-purple sets get me to my build goal.
I wanted some counsel on which Scrapper I should go with (first, if nothing else). Ancillary pools can be decided on later depending on what I want to do.
DM/Regen
DM/Shield
DM/SR
ElM/Shield
I would like to be able to at least be a blip on the radar in a team setting (even if that means my contribution is only noticed on hard targets or via Fireball). I would eventually like to dabble in AV-soloing, but if some of the tougher AVs are beyond me, that is fine.
Any thoughts or opinions? I was thinking Dark/Shield/Fire is a nice general all-purpose toon, but I could definitely be persuaded otherwise. -
My Scrappers (Dark/Regen Main, Dark/SR, Dark/Shield and ElM/Shield) are bundles of awesome in general. The Fire/Kin Controller and Elm/Shd are my teaming toons for the most part, and are always welcome (not because of the IOs, but because I know what the hell I am doing).
It is hard to pick from that handful, but I am willing to say that I will pick them over the rest of the toons I have rolled. With any luck, I can get my Katana/Dark Scrapper among the group. Apparently I love Dark. I am just waiting on being able to make a Dark Control/Dark Assault Dominator before I fall in love with a Dark-style Squishy. -
Quote:Even then, you might get a few just as thought experiments by the some of the more students of the game. Most of the forum runners in these parts can put together very viable builds very quickly, and even in varying degrees of price for more casual players who still want as much bang for as few bucks as they can get....
That said, no begging is needed for builds around here. The only reason you won't get one is if the combination just isn't played much at all.
To the OP, Katana/Willpower should serve you well from 1-50 and beyond. Admittedly, I have never played the combo (my fiancee has, though, and she loves it), but the sets are solid enough separately that there is no reason they should not rock together. Like bAss stated, Divine Avalanche, Rise to the Challenge and Quick Recovery all fairly early help you kick butt and take names. -
Quote:Generally, you will want to get to at least the mid-20s and SOs before you pass 50/reroll judgment on a character if you really like the concept. Regen is about the only secondary that shows even a hint of what it can do early on (with Reconstruction, Dull Pain, Integration and Quick Recovery all coming at or before 16). Like others have said, in Invuln's case, you want to wait until at least 29 and slotted Invincibility. Between that, Dull Pain, the general resistances of the set, Siphon Life, the ToHit Debuffs of Dark Melee in general, and Touch of Fear (for the early part at least), you have a lot to look forward to in the combo.I've got a lowbe DM/Inv scrapper (16) that I'm at the end of my rope with. I just picked up Unyielding and I had hoped to see some increase in survivability but none was to be found.
Has anyone played this to high levels, does it ever mature and get decent? I'm okay sticking something out if there's a light at the end of the tunnel, but if there isn't...
I really like the character concept, but I'm seriously considering remaking into Shield/EM, Fire/WP, or Shield/SS...
