One Scrapper to sit on the roost...

So I have four Scrappers (3 at 50 and 1 that is going to be 50 eventually), and currently only the patience, market-savvy and inf to full-on trick-out one at this juncture. By trick-out, I mean 5 LotGs, the Regen and Recovery uniques, a purple set or two, and whichever non-purple sets get me to my build goal.

I wanted some counsel on which Scrapper I should go with (first, if nothing else). Ancillary pools can be decided on later depending on what I want to do.

DM/Regen
DM/Shield
DM/SR
ElM/Shield

I would like to be able to at least be a blip on the radar in a team setting (even if that means my contribution is only noticed on hard targets or via Fireball). I would eventually like to dabble in AV-soloing, but if some of the tougher AVs are beyond me, that is fine.

Any thoughts or opinions? I was thinking Dark/Shield/Fire is a nice general all-purpose toon, but I could definitely be persuaded otherwise.

Either of your two shield characters probably have the most upside. DM/Shield is a good choice.

With that said, the DM/SR can be soft capped without a lot of investment and be made formidable, and you can do a cheapish build for the other shield character as well too. I have cheaper electric/shield builds here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=216944

Leaving the numbers out for a moment, as others can provide better feedback then me, I'd suggest approaching this with a different angle:

Which one of those is the most fun for you to play?

They are all decent choices, and with enough investment each can be made quite formidable.

You will be spending a lot of time on that character solo and in teams, so go with the one who 'feels' the most fun for you. This can be based on the look, the costume, the name, the social connections of that particular character, RP reason, the animations and the flow of combat with that particular set, or even badges (maybe some of anniversary badges).

It's a Scrapper, so it will kick **** regardless. However, at least in my opinion, if you spent that much time and virtual money on a character, it should be one you enjoy the most in and out of combat.

All things being equal though, I'd look into the DM/Shield.

I agree with Sunwind - Go with the one the feels the most fun for you. I have 3 tricked out scrappers and yet I still play one ten times more than the others.

I'd do the ElM/SD one

Spines/ D A lvl 50 Scrap, stone/wm lvl 50 tank, Kat/reg lvl 50 Scrap
Grav/Kin lvl 50 Cont, Fire/Enegry lvl 50 Blast
Warshade lvl 50, PB lvl 39, nightwidow lvl 50, crab lvl 42
plant/thorns lvl 50 dom, ice/fire lvl 40 dom, grav/nrg lvl 41 dom

My first scrapper to trick out was my DM/SR cause it was my first 50 and I figured I owed the guy. Haven't regretted it.

With my other characters when I had a few a 50 at once and needed to decide where to invest (haven't touched all 30 odd of them but have a few IOd up) I went with who was fun first and then who would pay back the inf spend first.

My Spine/Inv cost a lot at the time but made back the inf before I'd slotted the last IO. My Fire/Shield is about half way there and is my most recently slotted. Other than these two only my Rad/Rad defender has probably come close to repaying the cost I spent on it thanks to regular STF runs. I dont know if any of your alts bore you, but my DM/Regen is only 50 cause it was messing up the look of my character page and had been in the 30s since I4. It doesn't have anything other than the SOs I bought at 47 and that I picked up on the way to 50 after it.

A biased view would be go for the DM/SR. I love mine but I don't play it so much these days cause I have others that are more efficient on teams. SR's fairly cheap to soft cap too so would possibly let you look at your second earlier

"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

I probably should have also noted that the 3 50 scrappers all have significant IO investment, already. The Shield toons are soft-capped and already have a few Obliteration sets in them (along with other sets, but those are the most expensive). The Regen has near-perma-DP and at least 20% Defense to all three vectors. I enjoy them all and have stupid fun with them as is, but I was just thinking of finally saying, "this is my guy," and slotting appropriately. The other three will still be capable of taking many names while waiting their turn to be tricked-out.

The DM/Regen was my main for the longest time and my first to 50. The DM/Shield was actually a level-pacted toon with my soon to be wife (August 7th, Go Me!), a Kin/Dark/Dark Defender. The ElM/Shd/Fire and DM/SR/? were just solo projects of mine. One with a Single-Target Focus, the other an AoE engine of destruction. They are solid even with the IO sets they have now, and I think she wants to build up a ElM/Shd/Fire, so I may leave that one alone (She likes things dropping in droves, but does not like to be overly squishy like a Blaster).

Like I said earlier, I was leaning toward the DM/Shd. Nice mix of Single-Target and AoE, solid boost from AAO, personal investment with a toon of the missus. Looks like most of the group is in agreement, as well.

I actually have a Katana/Dark Armor Scrapper, and while I have seen the absolute ridiculousness that DA followers have done with theirs, I am not sure I am ready for that sort of expenditure, yet.

Oh, and Fury, since you are on here.

I was not able to do a fully dedicated 7 days, especially with not even being near my computer with trying to sort out wedding details, but I did 300 million. Not your Billion, but far from not bad and definitely not in the poor house by most standards.

300M is far more than what anti-market, supposed "casual" players will ever see in their whole time playing this game. Even better since you probably only marketed/played a few days out of that 7.

With that, I'll return us to our regularly scheduled scrapper line up.

Edit: Heh, I just unintentionally pulled a Golden Girl.
