  1. Definitely yes and I would be extremely happy coming back even if it's slow updates-wise for a couple of years which wouldn't really be very popular or profitable.

IMO a big damage would've been done and it would be almost "too late" needing some serious work to get CoX back on, perhaps even a relaunch with revamped textures and engine. Some serious marketing strategy as well. Not to mention the developers.
  2. - Not rolling concept characters because I was busy looking at numbers
    - Abandoning the game for 2-3 years, school took too much time and I was short on $
    - Being lazy, getting on and doing nothing getting myself bored
    - Never done a base raid back in the time, loved the idea
    - Too shy at some point, I failed to meet new friends in CoX
    - Enjoying the game after my initial friends quit
    - Spending too much time re-rolling characters
    - Haven't done some TFs/SFs

Was just starting to get back on CoX for real and enjoying myself with a couple of people I met recently, I enjoyed every moment and I was having a lot of fun, I would just get on daily and make some team for a TF, missions or whatever, the game was living again to me.

Then those koreans came in a Rikti-like ship and dropped an Arch-Villain "Psy" whom destroyed our world. - I know I know the joke is just bad! But anyways, I couldn't enjoy the game too much knowing it would be gone shortly and I wouldn't be able to get back on it again, broke my heart.
  3. I honestly don't think there is any hope we can save CoX officially nor work along with NCSoft.

However an emulator will probably show up in the next years allowing us some nostalgia but it will probably be very broken until a lot of efforts, coordination and time to finally make it playable.

The damage has already been done and no matter what we wont have it all over again, it'll be stuck in the past as most good memories of the game itself. I have saved all my screenshots folder since 2005 (3.1GB), demos, videos and a few other stuff, I also have the original game box with CoH and CoV collectors edition.

It has been hard to get on, I even hide the chat so I forget what's going on and try my best to enjoy the game.

Have a great real life, thank you very much! I'm glad you're concerned but there are greater things in life other than trolling and being a "Lulipop" even if you don't have a RL. Oh and by the way, CoH is great for those people with a RL, it's casual nature makes up for that, it's a game you can play a couple of hours a day, stay away for a while and come back and it's still fun.

So back on the subject, I did take a look at The Secret World and I'm considering trying it out, sounds interesting and quite different.

What I really enjoyed about CoH was the fact no matter how busy I was in RL, if I had just some spare time to log on a character, quickly find a team and run a couple of mishes it was fun, or even solo and read through story arcs I haven't done previously.

It was easy going and casual friendly, not to mention the fact I could make a hundred of different characters and try them out quite easily. Customization is also unbeatable in CoH.
  5. After the initial shock I told myself "calm down it's just a game, there is probably something to replace it..."

No, there isn't, CoH is unique in every way, even being outdated, deprecated combat system, blurry textures that looks horrible in 1080p and a lot of 7-8 years old content in need of an serious overhaul.

Tried Champions Online, didn't like it, it failed to make me feel a super hero, I don't like the overall character building and it's "Free to Play" model kinda sucks and makes you feel left out. Maybe the game IS better if I sub but I'm afraid this one might disappoint me especially in the long run.

I did like DCUO but it's a game I'm probably going to play like a console title for a couple of months and forget about it after a while. Don't get me wrong, feels like a great game but still feels more like a console title than a true MMORPG.

NCSoft has to blame itself if CoH was not performing as great as it was supposed to, lack of marketing, investments or even a sequel. It had potential... And still has. I am so sad to see it go. They're venturing in a over-saturated Asian market without any differential in their hands, no secret weapons, no reserves...

Most of these Asian games feels like the same to me, I have a couple of 60s in Aion but really, it has never been so fun, just kept me busy.

I guess I'll have to play CoH while it lasts and a bit of Tera which has been holding my interest.

Not sure where to go... Maybe Marvel Heroes will be fun but I'm kinda hopeless at the moment.
  6. I wouldn't mind starting over as long as all my purchased items and boosters were available such as costume packs.

This would be interesting, remaking my first toon? Doing Hollows and frostfire again? Wouldn't mind... at all
  7. Well, I still play Aion sometimes on Siel but that game is... was... had... er... had potential, I got frustrated by their *mostly* trollololol community that consists of extreme players playing it 24/7 to achieve something like PvP gear, hackers, gold sellers (they're so abundant in Aion they deserve to be called part of the community) and the COOL and rare minority of players.

There is no way Aion will make profit unless they go pay-to-win model or sell pikachu and jugglypuffs pets through the cash shop.

CoX had VIPs and an interesting cash shop, I can't believe Aion will stay around for long unless they transform it into a money maker.

And in CoX the whole community is awesome, not even comparable to Aion's.
  8. Unfortunately that project hasn't been active for years and even got shut down by NCSoft once under a different name.

It's only one man working behind that project and he hasn't got far, only managed to get on an empty map and create a character with a client launched back in 2004.

    Still an alternative.
  9. I was discussing with a friend if it was actually possible to keep CoX alive longer.

Porting CoX over Heroengine seems easy, all 3D models, textures and sounds are already available in the client itself, this could be a great and fun project, the better part of it is the fact Heroengine is a complete solution for MMORPGs including the server side and is a much better up-to-date engine.

Porting all the quests I'm not sure how troublesome it would be as it seems most text walls contents are held in the servers, probably for easier updating, translation and such but hey, it's already here, I am sure it would be easy to do it with the live game and our rich wiki.

Overall it seems easy and this could be an unique, powerful, MMORPG supported entirely by it's own playerbase, it could grow very quickly and improve itself over time. Isn't it somewhat frustrating to see your character face all blurred out on your HD screen? This could even be called "City of Heroes 2" or IMO, better yet "Paragon City".

I will support any project that's solid enough to keep our City of Heroes alive, be it our current game or a new improved one.

    My feelings

    Hello friends,

This is yet another topic lamenting what has been announced yesterday. I know there are many topics like these around but I feel like I should share my CoX experience with you. I just recently made a topic about how great the CoX community was and I am sure I will hardly ever find a mmorpg community this great again.

My hero career started back in 2005, Issue 5 had just launched and I was homeless (mmorpg wise) since Ultima Online, back at the time I ran a shard with a friend and we slowly moved to City of Heroes. Since I had no way to purchase the game since I'm from Brazil and there was nowhere to acquire it, one of these friends got me an account and I happily renewed it for the next couple of years. I was just 16/17 years old at the time, had a complicated life and a lot of family problems, I would rather live in CoX than real life.

Reading through most story arcs, letting my imagination lead the way, playing until 5-6am right before I had to get ready to go to the school, making up stories in my head for every alt I worked on, carefully working on their costume, names and powersets and even roleplaying a little with my bad english. This was not just a MMORPG, City of Heroes became part of me, something greater and magical, I had fun soloing, teaming up, PvPing, I had fun spending over an hour on the character creation process just for ideas.

This got me to a point where I no longer could live without logging for a few hours in City of Heroes and when I had to be away for a while, wow, it was hard! I know it's not healthy in anyways, but I loved it very much! I remember I even carried some CoX soundtracks and trailers on my nokia 6255.

Initially my home was Pinnacle, which soon got somewhat empty between 2008-2010 when CoX had probably the most difficult period around Issue 13 when we lost a lot of players with the PvP crowd being unhappy at the time. I moved away to Virtue with a bunch of friends and made well... nearly 100 alts.

City of Heroes has not always been a happy and colorful place, with school and many friends quitting or moving to WoW I slowly had to put CoX away since I was mostly alone and there was hardly anything to do at the time, the game population was really low and I didn't have time to play an MMO. Meanwhile I've tried WoW, Aion, Champions Online, Tera, Lineage II... For some reason it was just somewhat depressing, I could no longer meet new people and make friends, most of these games felt more like a trolling nest than anything. Not to say I didn't have fun with them, but it wasn't comparable to City of Heroes light and casual nature, something that makes you relax peacefully while having fun.

Right before last Christmas I came back with a friend, it was a blast! I've spent over U$70 plus VIP subscription since then and CoX became again my new favorite game. And I have seen many people do the same, I doubt CoX has ever been more successful than now which makes me not accept the fact it'll shut down in november.

Thank you Paragon Studios and the previous developers for making such a great game, this was a shock. Sorry but I'll hold a rant for NCSoft on this one.

I am 24 years old, married, got 1-1/2 year old daughter, run my own company and I love City of Heroes.

  11. Thanks!

STJ definitely feels more like MA concept-wise, typical hero chick that kicks some ***.

The best I could get on my MA Scrapper was about 66% L/S but her build was kinda dated and I didn't even respec to introduce her to IOs

What bothers me about MA is the fact I feel so useless on teams compared to other melees, there is always a maxxed out fury brute foot stomping everything or a claws scrapper wiping out spawns.

I am going with STJ/Invul, how far can /invul brute be softcapped at resist and def?

  12. I have a MA/Invul scrapper that was a lot fun to level up, but I find it extremely weak on big teams, mostly because the damage output leaves a lot to be desired.

How is a STJ or SS/Invul brute comparable to a MA/Invul scrapper? I am seriously considering rerolling her as a brute.

    Thanks
  13. I'd reduce barrage animation and replace it by Smite's from dark and replace Whirling Hands by Burst.

I think Total Focus should have the animation time slightly reduced, pretty much what they have done to Propel from Gravity, only problem here would probably be TF in other sets such as /EM blasters making it somewhat too powerful.

And why not make stun a pbaoe attack? (something like fault)

But before looking at EM please revamp Ice Melee, the only use for it was back when ice/fire tanks were popular.
  14. Have you noticed how cool the City of Heroes players are?

I started playing in 2005 right before Issue 6 and I took some long breaks from CoX, mostly in issue 12-17 era, the main reason behind this was due the fact most of my friends went away to something else and I was mostly playing by myself.

I've played UO, WoW, Aion(probably the worst community wise), Lineage, Tera and a few others I don't remember but mostly these MMOs were crowded with trolls, @ssholes, egoist retards and so on.

And I have never felt as bad playing CoX, most of you are nice, helpful and great to team with or just kill some time doing silly stuff, I thought Freedom was going to kill this but actually it did help.

It might be the casual nature of the game, I don't know nor I can find ways to explain it but the community here does make this game great in an unique way.

I know there is room for improvement and it's not yet complete since I need more inf to complete a few sets, I'm using SOs as fillers for the upcoming IOs

On a few tests I noticed I was being much more damaged without end mod on EA, as soon as I slotted it back with at least 3 end mod the mobs around me would usually skip heavy attacks being limited to minor ones, this made a huge difference when fighting 53s battlemaiden mobs.

Overall I'm happy, at least I'm somewhat "geared" for the higher end content.
  16. Ok, I finally got it!

My playstyle is usually focused on a quick paced teamplay herding whenever when possible and keeping aggro which has never been a problem with the Ice primary.

I do farm sometimes but it's very occasional.

I am not sure if there is a way to import one's build from the game but my final build looks pretty much like Kinrad's the main differences being:

    * No superjump
    * 3x slots Stamina, 2x slots CE, 6x slots EA
    * Incinerate instead of Fire Sword
    * Hibernate, Permafrost, & Block of Ice

After looking at the numbers, fireball isn't that great, while Breath of Fire takes some time to get used to and it's animation time is somewhat annoying but after all it's a better power to take. I was wasting too much endurance on Fireball and it's dmg is not as good.

Anyways, my tank does more damage now thanks to the huge recharge bonuses and it's also very survivable with decent regen/recovery, defenses between 47% and 50% without EA.

I am glad I had spare LOTGs because I'm broke now lol.

    Thank you both very much!

Now to work on my incarnates
  17. Pretty good builds! I'm quite impressed with what you both have pulled out from fairly cheap sets!

Ok, I'm trying to make my build, I guess the only way to have fireball would be skipping hibernate, I could also get used to Breath of Fire but Fireball does ok dmg in a lazy way.

Taunt is almost a must-get for the huge bonuses!

Wow, I just got no idea what to do.

Is the EA def bonus relevant enough to have 100% def in it like I had before? Does end sapping matter at all or does it just makes me feel cool? (heh, it's fun to see all the minions lts and some bosses without end).

On the attacks chain, I'd like to keep everything but Fire Sword and Breath of Fire (I do prefer incinerate over Fire Sword)

I noticed LSK's lost around 15% dmg on some attacks, would that be noticeable at all?
  18. That's a great build! And it's kinda cheap too!

I have never needed taunt on my tank to handle the aggro, chilling embrace or punch-voke from fireball always seemed to work fine, I know it's a bit personal, but on *this* Ice Tank I've never felt like it was needed.

Things I have missed in this build:

Hibernate, Greater Fire Sword, Pyre Mastery, sapper-like EA with 3 HAMI-Os.

Things I wouldn't miss with this build:

Fire Sword, Super Jump, Permafrost, Breath of Fire, Taunt.

I am not sure about Permafrost tho, it's only really useful against Fire dmg and extreme slow which is not very common

Thank you very much, that gives me an idea about I should do.
  19. Hey guys,

I haven't played this tank for a while so I'm trying to upgrade him to the latest IO sets and so on.

I just did the initial Incarnate story arc and I soloed most of the mishes with x8/+2 settings without AVs, it's pretty neat, I love this tank.

Most Ice tank guides are very dated, I am trying to build my own on mids but really, I'm kinda lost since I don't know the whole IO sets yet.

I am aiming for def softcap (softcap before using EA) while still being highly offensive.

Please note that I have a Numina +Regen/+Recovery slotted in Health, both Health and Stamina got 3x slots each.

    Screenshot of the current build:

    http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/1958/zslots.jpg

Currently I have 38.50% S/L Def, 41% N/E Def and between 10% and 15% to everything else, including positional def.

    23.19% resistance to S/L, 12.5% to Fire, 90% Cold.

I'd like to have at least 45% def to S/L/N/E, I'm not sure if it worth trying to get my fire res higher
  20. I am not sure if I like these changes on some of my toons, kinda concerned about Blizzard since it's a dot nuke that'll probably get worse with these changes giving time for the NPCs to run away.

I am also not sure how exactly Blizzard works, if it's also random damage like the other nukes and if it's the same damage as the others which is (IMO) also somewhat unfair since it's purely dot.

Really just needs to have an objective-based pvp...like capture the flag, hold this point, something other than "kill someone" pvp for someone like me to get into it.

    Edit:

Hence, why I liked the SG base raids more than zone pvp (or arena pvp).
There are actual minor objectives, BB got shivans, SC bounties, WB nukes and RV somewhat of a spot-capture game it's just not rewarding enough, also I think the bounties system should be in every PvP zone.

Maybe a system that earns you PvP Reward Merits so you can exchange them for PvP IOs, special inspirations and costume pieces, this would bring a lot of people to PvP zones.

Base raids were fun but highly exploitable, I haven't done them since most of my SG quit the game
  22. I mostly miss the zone PvP, just grab a random toon and go there and have some fun.

Been trying to actually find the PvP on Virtue these days, only real action I could find was RV and that's a shame, SC and Warburg used to be very fun! I would often find SC crowded with tons of people.

And the action I found in RV was kinda lame, seemed like everyone was using the same AT with the same set of powers.

I can't see the reason of why there are hardly anyone pvping now a days but all the changes since i13 since apparently CoX has a larger playerbase now than before, I would rarely see a server going yellow and red back then.

Had a lot of fun with some chars those were never meant to be a fotm pvper such as my Em/Stone brute in SC, kin/sonic defender, spines/SR stalker, ice/ice blaster, mind/psy dom, archery/em blaster, MA/Invul scrapper, Cold/fire corruptor and ice/fire tanker. Also had a few "OP" ones mostly for arenas like Ill/Rad and Ice/Storm.

I got so many kills on my Cold/Fire corruptor in Warburg I used to lol at people rage quitting the zone because supposedly corruptors were op. FS + Sonic Nuke on MMs on my Defender? Priceless! I got a few MMs this way, that was VERY funny. Also I had all the toons above with reputation maxxed out at least once.

Now it feels like we need a char specifically built for PvP, it was much more casual friendly back a few years.

Hell, I wouldn't mind having bloody bay as a ruleless PvP zone, at least there will be someone to play with...
  23. ** Spoiler information: You've read 1000x posts like this before **

    Hello Devs!

I have been away for quite a long time since Issue 14 when I felt there was nothing else left in CoX but AE farms (Could hardly find any *normal* teams at the time), lack of lvl 50 content and a broken PvP. Now I'm loving this game again except for the PvP which I tried hard to enjoy but it's not the same fun either losing or wining.

You've spent many hours, days, weeks, months and years thinking and tweaking PvP. IMO this time could be used into developing new content instead.

So let's remember why there are so many changes with I13:

1 - People whined too much.

And you tried to change PvP, nerf it, boost that, try to balance it and that until you gave up but everyone is still whining! Listening to everyone with different options can be troublesome.

Just leave it like the old Issue 6 days, pretty much like PvE except minor NEEDED changes like mez suppression, people can't 1 shot anyone (i7 change I think), brutes earn fury much faster and so on. We had many different classes with different powersets PvPing at the time and it was much more fun, I have never played FoTMs and got my *** kicked many times by a variety of different classes on different toons, that was fun. I am not really sure about IO sets within this PvP system.

Couldn't you make it like an event? Open Sirens Call or Bloody Bay to these old rules and see how successful are these changes?

I remember there were so many changes before I13, many fail-attempts that made nonsense, defense was godlike today and useless tomorrow, felt like we were playing a beta game.

Keeping things simple sometimes is a better option.
  24. Regen seems to be the most used and viable choice for a PvP toon, I went to play with my Blaster just to feel what's like now. It's a Archery/EM blaster built for PvE with AoEs and force mastery.

Stalkers had a hard time taking me down solo, it's mostly about AS + Patron ranged powers, I pretty much lol'd about the fact Power Push was so useful and throwing stalkers meters aways is a lot fun and seems like it's tricky to avoid it. About defense, oh... what Elude? This is ridiculous, I could hit like if they were out from it pre I13. Very sad.

So far the only Stalkers hitting very hard was DM with MG, EM and believe or not there were no elec/ stalkers in the zone.

Regen stalkers would just heal themselves and get away to strike again while the others I had no trouble to kill unless they had phase.

I do remember hunting stalkers on my Fire/Cold corruptor in Warburg, regens were my favorite target along with regen scrappers since I would slow them to death.

I have to agree Regen hasn't been touched by DR so much, the -Regen often is pretty meaningless if you have enough heals to keep poping and keeping yourself alive.

So many changes to PvP it's like playing a new game, I do not know what devs wanted with it but I would rather leave it like PvE as much as it was in I6 lol.

So my choice goes to Elec/Regen, I'd appreciate a build if anyone has one!

    Thanks a lot guys!
  25. Hope TS is not getting nerfed any soon lol.

So... Ninj actually underperforms Regen considering the +Perception and fear/confuse resistance?
